[Bug 53049] Re: Fails to upgrade non-interactively
This morning cron mailed me again about this debconf error about not beeing able to set frontend, TERM not set, etc. Unfortunatelly I've deleted the mail already. The orcward thing is aptitude runs fine acording to my logs and installes packages from hardy-security just fine. Last time was Jul 10 23:17:01 CEST. Any suggestions? Meight this bug still not be fixed; not for desktop repos? Or what meight I be doing wrong? Cheers. [Bug 222796] Re: Brightness up not generating ACPI event on Thinkpad T43p, T42, X31, X40
I'm reassigning this to the hotkey-setup package, as the hotkey-setup init script is likely the best place to fix this. /proc/acpi/ibm/hotkey initializes to 0x008c7fff, and the hotkey-setup init script only modifies it to 0x00ff7fff, leaving the missing bit as the one controlling the brightness up button. In gutsy, the thinkpad_acpi module appears to initialize the value differently, so the brightness keys work by default. Strangely it appears that the hotkey-setup would enable all the hotkeys if you had intel, ati, or radeon drivers set up in your xorg.conf, but otherwise only the top 8 bits of the mask. I don't find a good explanation for this behavior. On my T43p, the default xorg.conf doesn't identify any driver, so this doesn't happen. Nor does it happen if I enable fglrx, which matches none of intel, ati, or radeon, and again it doesn't enable all hotkeys. I'd like to understand why this line is restricted to specific xorg video drivers. ** Changed in: hotkey-setup (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: linux = hotkey-setup -- Brightness up not generating ACPI event on Thinkpad T43p, T42, X31, X40 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/222796 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 213532] Re: Need textured-video - No video when using window transparency.
I tried enabling the TexturedVideo, but it caused my CPU to max out on an HD video... The only reason I mention this is because Xorg uses about 7 times more cpu with poorer picture quality than the same video being played with X11. For comparison: Xv uses about 40% (35% vlc, 5% Xorg) of my cpu on average while playing a 720p x264 video X11 uses about 50% (35% vlc, 15% Xorg) playing the same video (but with all those nifty compiz effects working fine) With TexturedVideo enabled and the default output (I am assuming Xv?) it used 100% of the cpu, mostly Xorg I believe. I think VLC was not receiving enough cpu time to even decode the video properly, hence the poorer picture quality. Notably these are amplified numbers (and differences) since it was an HD video; lower resolution videos do not use anywhere near this much CPU. In other words TexturedVideo is not a viable option. Is there anyway to set the default video output for all of Ubuntu to use X11 video output by default? Or do we have to set the default program by program? Also, will the performance of TexturedVideo depend on video card/drivers? Regardless, due to its poor performance, I would say it probably should not be enabled by default on ibex (unless of course it is only enabled for higher end cards...). -- Need textured-video - No video when using window transparency. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/213532 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 247476] [NEW] Backlight brightness set to maximum at various events
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel My Toshiba Satellite U400 has an Intel GM965 card. I am using hardy with proposed updates, and I usually run two screens. At various events, the LCD backlight is set to maximum, which is level 7. One event is when the laptop lid is reopened. I can also cause this bug by xset dpms force on Another event that causes the problem is when I start a virtual machine in virtualbox (go figure) If I run lshal -m I see nothing happening when the virtual machine starts, yet the brighness changes. So I think it is a problem with the video driver. I can stop it happening by blacklisting the video module. But then I have no acpi control over brightness. I can manually change it via the hotkeys. This is what I do currently, since fully reliable manual control is better than LCD brightness resets. --- config data --- contains: 1. package version 2. xorg.conf 3. lsmod | sort [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1 Release:8.04 version of the driver: xserver-xorg-video-intel @:@.2.1-1ubuntu13.5 2, xorg.conf # xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file) # # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using # values from the debconf database. # # Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page. # (Type man xorg.conf at the shell prompt.) # # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only* # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg # package. # # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated # again, run the following command: # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg Section InputDevice Identifier Generic Keyboard Driver kbd Option XkbRules xorg Option XkbModel pc105 Option XkbLayout us EndSection Section InputDevice Identifier Configured Mouse Driver mouse Option CorePointer EndSection Section InputDevice Identifier Synaptics Touchpad Driver synaptics Option SendCoreEventstrue Option Device/dev/psaux Option Protocol auto-dev Option HorizEdgeScroll 0 EndSection Section Device Identifier Configured Video Device EndSection Section Monitor Identifier Configured Monitor EndSection Section Screen Identifier Default Screen Monitor Configured Monitor Device Configured Video Device SubSection Display Virtual 2560 1024 EndSubSection EndSection Section ServerLayout Identifier Default Layout Screen Default Screen InputDevice Synaptics Touchpad EndSection 3. lsmod | sort ac 6916 0 acpi_cpufreq 10796 2 af_packet 23812 4 agpgart34760 3 drm,intel_agp ahci 28420 4 arc42944 2 ata_generic 8324 0 ata_piix 19588 0 battery14212 0 binfmt_misc12808 1 bitblit 6784 1 fbcon blkcipher 8324 1 ecb bluetooth 61156 5 rfcomm,l2cap,hci_usb button 9232 0 cdrom 37408 1 sr_mod cfg80211 15112 1 iwlwifi_mac80211 compat_ioctl32 2304 1 uvcvideo container 5632 0 cpufreq_conservative 8712 0 cpufreq_ondemand9740 1 cpufreq_powersave 2688 0 cpufreq_stats 7104 0 cpufreq_userspace 5284 0 dock 11280 0 drm82452 3 i915 ecb 4480 2 ehci_hcd 37900 0 evdev 13056 8 ext3 136712 3 fan 5636 0 fbcon 42912 0 font9472 1 fbcon freq_table 5536 3 acpi_cpufreq,cpufreq_ondemand,cpufreq_stats fuse 50580 3 hci_usb16540 0 hid38784 1 usbhid i915 32512 2 ieee1394 93752 2 sbp2,ohci1394 intel_agp 25492 1 iptable_filter 3840 0 ip_tables 14820 1 iptable_filter ipv6 267780 12 iTCO_vendor_support 4868 1 iTCO_wdt iTCO_wdt 13092 0 iwl4965 108916 0 iwlwifi_mac80211 219108 1 iwl4965 jbd48404 1 ext3 joydev 13120 0 l2cap 25728 13 rfcomm led_class 6020 1 iwl4965 libata159344 4 ata_generic,ata_piix,pata_acpi,ahci lp 12324 0 mbcache 9600 1 ext3 mmc_core 51460

[Bug 196277] Re: [hardy] keyboard layout switching shortcut doesn't work after reboot
Not sure what you say has been fixed (geez this is a long running bug report) but since this is a duplicate bug of a bug that I have experienced (and still am experiencing in up-to-date hardy) I will give my short two cents. On up-to-date hardy as of 10/07/2008, I cannot (using keyboard combination alt - alt ) change my keyboard from US to DE(US English keyboard to German Keyboard) however, I was always able to change from DE to US using the same key combination. In other words, It would only work ONE WAY. For ME, the SHIFT-SHIFT combination works perfectly. Now I can switch both ways (US to DE, and back again - DE to US). For me it is only the Alt - Alt key combination that continues not to work to this day. -- [hardy] keyboard layout switching shortcut doesn't work after reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/196277 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I believe this is the same bug that I've run into when trying to run the intrepid alpha 2 liveCD on my laptop, which uses an i945GM chipset. If I switch to VT1, I see that compiz.real is running; if I kill it and switch back to VT7, the desktop appears (sans window manager, of course). I have an issue with similar symptoms under VMware, but I'm not able to determine whether it's the same cause since it's not possible to switch VTs under those conditions. [Bug 247485] [NEW] Openoffice doesn't really use GVFS
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org-gnome Hello, Seems that OpenOffice doesn't use GVFS, or is buggy. Steps : - I mount my smb share through a bookmark (in .gtk-bookmarks : smb://server/share ), it asks for my username/password, so far so good - I open a OOo document right after the mount, it works fine, so I closed the file, closed Nautilus so that I don't have any window linked to the share - I waited about 1h without touching the share, working on other stuff - I opened another file with OOo from the share. And OOo asked me my idents, though GVFS didn't ask for anything when I opened my filemanager... Shouldn't GVFS communicate sessions with OOo so that we don't need to recall our idents every X minutes? Versions : - Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1 - Release: 8.04 - Kernel: 2.6.24-19-generic - openoffice.org-gnome 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2 - gvfs 0.2.4-0ubuntu1 - gvfs-backends 0.2.4-0ubuntu1 - gvfs-fuse 0.2.4-0ubuntu1 - libgvfscommon0 0.2.4-0ubuntu1 It's really annoying, and because of this behavior, we can't upgrade our office to Hardy (users will go crazy after 2 hours of this thing) If someone has a working work-around, or a patch, or... Thanks in advance Regards C. ** Affects: openoffice.org (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Openoffice doesn't really use GVFS https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/247485 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
