[Bug 164544] Re: Error while join to domain (Unable to create machine account)

2008-08-16 Thread tekknokrat
@Julien Desfossez

this fix does not work for me.
This is a revert of recent changes in the tools script. Somewhere I found
another bug which introduced this changes, don't know where atm.
Can you confirm your smbldap-tools version is hardy and that machine creation
works with original ubuntu packages?

2008-08-16 Thread Mike Read
Hi,

the Diff was displayed.I cancelled the Diff and the installation continued.
I think my original samba configuration was retained as I still share the
same folders as when I was running Dapper.
As far as I know it's not broken, but as the system reported several other
bugs with other packages, I was unsure.

thanks for your help.

cheers

Mike

 Hi Mike,

When you chose the 'diff' option, was the diff displayed for you?
Afterwards, what did you choose to try to get back to the menu?

Is this package still in a broken state on your system (allowing further
debugging), or have you since resolved this problem?

[Bug 258491] [NEW] link_all_deplibs=no patch no longer working well

2008-08-16 Thread Olly Betts
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libtool

It appears that the link_all_deplibs=no patch hasn't been correctly
updated for libtool 2.2.x.

The binaries in xapian-omega link against libxapian which has a
dependency on libz, but the binaries don't require libz themselves. So
to avoid explicitly linking with libz, xapian-omega's debian/rules runs
autoreconf (which runs libtoolize) to pick up this patch. This works as
expected with libtool 1.5.26-4, but with libtool 2.2.4-0ubuntu3 the link
command run by libtool contains -lz (and so xapian-omega FTBFS since it
doesn't have a build dependency on zlib1g-dev).

The attached patch against ltmain.sh fixes this for me, but I'm not
certain if it is the correct fix, or if it is, if more cases should be
handled. I added echos to trace how deplibs changes through the
execution of the libtool script, and it seems rather complicated.

Since those are changes that belong to the Merge they should be listed
as sub items, not as different items. Also i think debian dropped the
Build-Depends-Indep field, so it's pointless to keep it.

A lot better this time, keep going!

No, it's not new. From [0]:

Detailed instructions how to reproduce the bug. These should allow someone
who is not familiar with the affected package to reproduce the bug and verify
that the updated package fixes the problem. Please mark this with a line TEST

the information they need is in one place.

[Bug 258499] [NEW] fails to open/extract .deb files in intrepid

In current intrepid alpha 4 release, When right-clicking on a .deb files

This is particular because .deb files are normally .ar archives (I can

[Bug 59695] Re: High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime

2008-08-16 Thread Alexey Borzenkov
No, because laptop-mode is still disabled by default. If you experience
these problems (big note: this is currently for intrepid only!) you can
try the following:

Edit /etc/default/acpi-support: ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE=true
Edit /etc/laptop-mode/laptop-mode.conf: BATT_HD_POWERMGMT=number and
NOLM_AC_HD_POWERMGMT=number (if you still experience problems with now default
1 and 254)

The bugs that were finally resolved just make such changes very easy to
do for everyone (a very simple config file), that they actually work and
ensure these changes are reapplied after suspend/resume hibernate/thaw.

Please sync pdmenu 1.2.95 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

Explanation of why ubuntu changes can be dropped:
Debian has incorporated ubuntu changes (i.e Rebuild for libgpmg1 -
libgpm2 transistion.) So ubuntu changes can be dropped.

Changelog since current intrepid version 1.2.93build1:

pdmenu (1.2.95) unstable; urgency=low

  * Actually enable Russian translation in Makefile.
  * Put in a workaround for slang bug #407835. (If it is a bug.. workaround is
just to enable its OS-specific utf-8 sensing code.)

pdmenu (1.2.94) unstable; urgency=low

[Bug 258158] Re: mplayer vlc kaffeine all players hang/pause when I switch away from the VT they use (to other desktop or terminal)

2008-08-16 Thread Bug Hunter

I tried strace, but I was yet not able to find any abnormal behaviour visible
via strace when I switch to VT and back.

I tried gdb, and it did showed following.

Each time I stoped program in gdb to show it current bt, it was in
select(), both when normally working and while hanging (when on other
VT).

Only thing so far I noticed is that while in other VT, then atop cpu usage
kaffeine=3% pulseaudio=~0%, and in same VT kaffeine=6% pulseaudio=5%

All the above is on geforce 2 mx gfxcard;

[Bug 10550] Re: DVDs with restrictive permissions are unreadable for normal user

2008-08-16 Thread James Henstridge
It looks like this bug was reported in Fedora too, but there is no
resolution there either:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=160945

As Martin said earlier in the bug, this probably needs an extra option
implemented by the filesystem driver to ignore disc permissions (as they
might have useful details for non-movie discs, you don't want to ignore
them outright).

Using driver nv instead nvidia changes nothing.

Playing with mplayer -vo aa do not help - still when going to VT-1 it
stops

But when in say VT-3 (text console) I start mplayer -vo aa, then its all
ok - switching to any other VT (text and X) do NOT stop playback -
yeeey.

Turning off kaffeine option [ ] stop playback when window is not

bug. After I double-clicked on Install, I completed all of the prompts
and then selected Manual install in the partition step so that I could
just reuse my old ext3 partition. I clicked on edit partition so that I
could choose a mount point, partition type, format, etc... The problem
here is that in the size box my used space was entered by default and
not my actual partition size. I've never experienced this bug in Ubuntu
in any previous versions. To remedy this problem I moved my edit window
to see what the exact size of my partition is and entered this number in
the size box.

[Bug 258510] [NEW] Default permission for subfolders on a mounted Nokia 6500 Classic USB disk is Access files

2008-08-16 Thread Rune Svendsen
Public bug reported:

When I plug in my Nokia 6500 Classic phone to be used as an USB storage
device it automounts fine. But when I enter one of the subfolders of the
device to paste a file the Paste option is disabled. I found out that
entering a subfolder, right-clicking and choosing Properties and
changing Folder access under the Permissions-tab to Create and
delete files allows me to write files to this particular subfolder.
This has to be repeated for every subfolder on the device that I wish to
write to.

It seems like it would be the most logical if the USB drive was mounted
with Create and delete files enabled by default. Not all people would
think to look under permissions, especially not if you're not used to
Linux. It took me a while to figure out at least.

I'm not sure what information to include but here's some output of ls

[Bug 255076] Re: totem-gstreamer crashed with SIGSEGV in MPV_decode_mb()

2008-08-16 Thread Reinhard Tartler
trying to play this file with ffplay and a recent ffmpeg
(3:0.svn20080206-9ubuntu2~ppa1) shows no problem with playback. I'm
therefore inclined to mark this bug as 'fixreleased'.

However I could also confirm playback distortion with totem. When trying
it with totem, I was prompted to install the package 'gstreamer0.10
-fluendo-mpegdemux'. I therefore suspect that the mpegdemuxer does weird
things, or totem is not using ffmpeg as expected here. I'm therefore
reassigning this package (again).

[Bug 258512] [NEW] epiphany crashes often on tab closing.

2008-08-16 Thread ThiloPfennig
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release:8.04

epiphany-browser:

Often when I close a tab in epiphany-browser the whole browser crashes. I can
then restore the session after the crash. I think this only happens on closing
non-empty tabs. (See also bug #104260 and bug #224145).

I will attach a valgrind log that I produced with G_SLICE=always-malloc

[Bug 250043] Re: unable to play a dvd using kaffeine and two drive drives in one desktop

2008-08-16 Thread Reinhard Tartler
This is more a usage question than a real bug, so I'm converting it.

The /dev/dvd symlink is created by udev. Which of your drives is set to
'dev/dvd/' seems rather random to me, so you might want to look into the
udev rules to find out more about this.

xine itself does not seem to handle the case of multiple dvd players at
all.
