Openldap 2.4 is compiled against gnutls which doesn't support
 TLS_CACERTDIR.
 See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openldap/+bug/242313.

Uh, oh... this clearly solve this bug, because if TLS_CACERTDIR does
not work anymore, clearly there's no certificates to 'enumerate'...
;-)))

Issue 1 remain: why i've to set the 'global' /etc/ldap/ldap.conf
CA certificate via TLS_CACERTDIR because the 'local' /etc/ldap.conf
CA certificate via tls_cacertfile does not work?

Say me if i've to open a new bug, i've searched for 'tls_cacertfile' on
launchpad but seems that there's no reference... no, wait a moment:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libnss-
ldap/+bug/241128

seems i've to use tls_checkpeer=yes, i'll do some tests. ;)

Make sure that you're not using self-signed certificates on the clients.

No, i use a local CA built with TinyCA.

[Blueprint clamav-spamassassin-in-main] Support Clamav and Spamassassin in Main

2008-09-06 Thread Scott Kitterman
Blueprint changed by Scott Kitterman:

Whiteboard changed to:

The list of packages the need MIR is on the referenced wiki page. All
MIR approved. Packages promoted. Need to drop some recommends from
clamav and add clamav and spamassassin to the server seed.

Note: Instead of splitting the package (as was indicated would be
likely) the Sendmail source was promoted to Main. This also allowed us
to unsplit amavisd-new (reducing maintenance burden) and allows for the
possibility of Milters in Main in the future.

[Bug 267279] [NEW] DRBD Primary-Primary Setup on Hardy crashes in certain situations

2008-09-06 Thread Henri Cook
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: drbd8-utils

This may be kernel related I suppose, if DRBD is present there.

Assume the following setup:

Node A running a DRBD drive (OCFS2) with local (/dev/md5) metadata and mounted
at /shared
Node B running a DRBD drive (OCFS2) with local (/dev/md5) metadata and mounted
at /shared

A runs an FTP server

Client X starts transferring a file into the FTP server on A which is
writing to /shared i.e. /shared is mounted AND in use

If Node B (which is doing nothing really) gets rebooted by typing
'reboot', Node A upon detecting the DRBD network failure also reboots -
this is a hard reboot (no logs, or shutdown actions run).

This makes ubuntu-server unuseable for a primary-primary raid1-over-
network setup with DRBD and the version of DRBD should be drastically
upgraded for Intrepid (or backported to hardy considering the
seriousness) assuming it's been fixed in one of the releases up to 8.2

This does not affect Primary/Secondary DRBD setups as far as I can tell

[Bug 145801] Re: sometimes doesn't detect main title

2008-09-06 Thread Sam Brightman
I had changed the wrong variable for the default title number and was
reading teh VTS files too often. This updated patch has the loops
reorganised to only open the VTS files once - although it still has to
skip over titles that are not within that VTS rather than knowing
straight away where to start looking. However, this is the method used
elsewhere in stream_dvd.c too, so it may not be possible to do it
better.

At the moment this code appears to be working (i.e. selects the longest
title). However, I've been testing on Cygwin, and mplayer actually
segfaults in the audio decoding phase on my test DVD.

Note that at the moment I am just selecting the longest title, I have
another version which selects the title at the start of the longest
title set - I don't really know which makes most sense. I think the
version supplied is the most intuitive (title not titleset). I only
mention this because my test DVD has loads and loads of titles (extras
disc). The longest title and longest title set start are the same.

[Bug 267128] [NEW] LiveCD reports a hardware error

2008-09-06 Thread 3gun
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu was installed on my computer and worked fine until yesterday
(version 8.04, up-to-date every day). yesterday it reported errors after
boot screen with Ubuntu logo instead of switching to GUI mode. screen
output looks like this:

[unix-formatted time] ata1.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x2
frozen
[unix-formatted time] ata1.00: cmd a0/01:00:00:60:00/00:00:00:00:00/a0 tag 0
dma 96 in
[unix-formatted time] ata1.00: status: { DRDY }

it repeats about 6-8 times and than hangs. i took off hard drive and
tried to boot from LiveCD (versions from 6.xx to 8.04, same results).
screen output stays the same, except that it starts with this lines:

BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3-5ubuntu12) Built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for list of build-in commands.
(initramfs)

and just before system hangs there is one more line:

[unix-formatted time] ata1.00: revalidation failed (errno=-5)

memory test on LiveCD works and reports no errors. to check hardware
state i installed windows system and it's hardware tests reported no
errors too.

[Bug 267131] [NEW] kde4 menu does not display crossover programs

2008-09-06 Thread ANDREA
Public bug reported:

Hi
I have installed crossover, and photoshop using it actually which works fine
and shows up correctly in the start menu using kde3. when using kde4 however in
a hardy install (kde 4.1.1 to be precise), there is no option to start
photoshop anymore nor is the crossover category displayed, which is unfortunate
if not annoying.
Help appreciated, if you need further info let me know!

ANDREA

ps: i've read somewhere that this has to do with kde4's menu not being
... xdg-compatible or something like that if that has ANYTHING to do
with it (don't quote me on this as i don't really know what it means)

[Bug 267133] [NEW] Intrepid Alpha-5 Live RAM failure

2008-09-06 Thread Rene Capell
Public bug reported:

Intrepid Alpha-5 Live Desktop CD fails to boot on a Acer TM 5730 (Intel
Montevina, GMA X4500HD). The Error I get is:

(initramfs) [31.842118] endrequest: I/O error, devsr0, sector 1424384
[31.8421160] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 17

This was also reported in bug #254406

Also (and this might be the actual cause of the problem), running
memtest from the CD produces numerous errors until it eventually
crashes. This is well known, I guess, and reported in bug #246412, for
example.

I am sorry for double posting, but i thought it might be worth a new
thread because it's a new Alpha and Centrino-2 platform (correct me if
that is wrong thinking).

[Bug 267127] Re: destop configuration file for xaos causes xaos to hang

2008-09-06 Thread ayaray
** Summary changed:

- xaos and xaos -driver X11
+ destop configuration file for xaos causes xaos to hang

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xaos

- The command for launching xaos in applications menu is xaos -driver X11.
This command causes xaos's window to hang for a few seconds (you can see it
when you hover your mouse over the name of the window, and an additional button
on the panel, saying launching xaos). If you type in the terminal xaos
(without -driver X11) the window doesn't hang and xaos starts fast and
smooth.
- The command xaos -list lists available drivers, and there is only one
driver available: X11.
+ When you click on xaos in applications menu, xaos hangs for a few
+ seconds. You can see it when you hover your mouse over the name of the
+ window, and you can see an additional window button on the panel, saying
+ launching xaos. If you type in the terminal xaos (or xaos -driver
+ X11 - it doesn't matter) the window doesn't hang and xaos starts fast
+ and smooth. If you create menu item for xaos from scratch, then xaos
+ doesn't hang.

[Bug 35223] Re: Laptop TFT monitor - brightness level is not saved

I also have a similar problem on Hardy. When the computer idle the
backlight level is reduced to the minimum, but when moving the mouse the
backlight level is always set to half level... I would prefer it is set
back to the level I set it to (with acpi keys) before the computer idle.
the acpi backlignt/brightness level should be saved and restored to this
level both after idle and reboot.

since an upgrade some time ago (running Intrepid), my mouse (I use a

see that it is set to about 80% of full speed. Changing these settings
makes no difference. It is so slow it is barely usable and very
frustrating to use.

Executed a sudo /etc/acpi/sleep.sh force command. System went into sleep

hot, drives spinning, etc.). However, the LCD monitor was dark with no power.
Same condition with standard Ubuntu 8.04.

[Bug 262086] Re: i installed packagekit and i get this error each time i reboot

2008-09-06 Thread Dimitrios Symeonidis
I couldn't build 0.3.1 (or even 0.2.4) from source, because (after
having to install libpolkit-dbus-dev libpolkit-grant-dev libdbus-1-dev
libdbus-glib-1-dev libsqlite3-dev libglib2.0-dev gettext), it wanted
polkit 0.8 and hardy has 0.7. This was becoming a bit too much for me.
When Intrepid becomes a bit more stable, I will try out Packagekit
there...

In the meantime, I would suggest to upgrade the version of packagekit in
both intrepid and hardy...

Hi again,

There's a lot of confusing/conflicting info out there about getting my

Here's where I am now...

Clean default standalone install of Mythbuntu 8.04 with all updates

[Bug 191389] Re: FLAC tags cannot be edited

2008-09-06 Thread Hew McLachlan
I think this is an important fix to have included in Intrepid. Since it
hasn't been included in 0.10.10 for some reason, it's probably necessary
to create a patch to fix this before Intrepid release.

[Bug 267063] Re: wireless event too big (366)

2008-09-06 Thread Christophe Dumez
I have just tried intrepid alpha5 live CD and I have sad news. I'm no
longer able to connect to my router.

In fact, it looks like the association is successful but there is no
DHCP. So I tried to use a static IP but it does not matter, If I do so
I'm not even able to ping other machines on my network.

I'm joining logs and information.

$ uname -a
Linux ubuntu 2.6.27-2-generic #1 SMP Thu Aug 28 17:20:02 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

$iwconfig (when trying to get an IP, before network manager gives up and
disconnects):
$ iwconfig wlan0
wlan0 IEEE 802.11abgn ESSID:chris
  Mode:Managed Frequency:2.437 GHz Access Point: 00:1D:0F:33:7E:EC
  Bit Rate=54 Mb/s Tx-Power=15 dBm
  Retry min limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr=2352 B
  Power Management:off
Link Quality=100/100 Signal level:-50 dBm Noise level=-90 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
  Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

It displays abgn but it is still 54Mbps and wifi connection is not even
working.
