Intrepid has a different nss-ldap configuration than hardy.

There is a deamon nslcd in the package libnss-ldapd, which has its own
config file /etc/nss-ldapd.conf with a different syntax (not compatible
to Hardy's /etc/ldap.conf).

I use the following filter statement for the groups. I am not an ldap
expert, so maybe there is a better one.

filter group ((objectClass=group)(msSFU30GidNumber=*))

  so that /etc/dnsmasq.d is read. This provides a drop-directory where

Ok... the bug is confirmed. And now? Will there ( when? ) a fix or not?
I doesn't know the criteria for such updates, but I think it has to be
fixed, since it is a LTS ubuntu release - and ubuntu do not want 5 years
with a bug in the openldap package!?! If I can help ( testing ) let me
know.

Another workaround: set msdfs root = no on affected shares or in the
[global] section of smb.conf. If you don't use DFS at all you can also
disable it completely with host msdfs = no.

This also made UNIX extensions finally work. Note that I had to remount
all shares to get things working. I don't use DFS, so I can't tell what
effect mixing DFS shares with non-DFS shares will have.

This approach has the advantage that you don't need any changes on the
client side, even when the nodfs option will be available - useful if
you have a lot of clients to fix.

dnsmasq 2.46-1 (soon in an archive near you) implements a /etc/dnsmasq.d
directory that allows to drop configuration snippets from other
packages. This opens ways for more collaboration between the two
packages.

We could for example have:

/etc/dnsmasq.d/libvirt
  bind-interfaces
  except-interface=virtual bridge

and libvirt would start its dnsmasq using --interface=virtual-bridge

This is due to /var/run being of type tmpfs . The fix is to modify the
initscript to create the directory in /var/run/ if it does not exist,
and then remove anything to do with /var/run from the postinst.

In Tomcat 5.5 the default database connection pool factory class is
'org.apache.commons.dbcp.BasicDataSourceFactory', included in commons-
dbcp.jar. So, the applications that didn't specify the dbcp factory
class (the great majority, I guess) worked with no problems using tomcat
5.5 without tomcat-dbcp.jar in the 'commons/lib' folder. The problem is
that starting from Tomcat 6, the default database connection pool
factory class is 'org.apache.tomcat.dbcp.dbcp.BasicDataSourceFactory'
included in tomcat-dbcp.jar, so all the applications that expects to
work with Tomcat's default  database connection pool factory will fail
if tomcat-dbcp.jar is not in the classpath.

It looks exactly the same issue. I use smbfs instead cifs but I've
tested it on both.

I also noticed that this problem is only during access to Debian server.
I've got network drive (Icy Box NAS 2000) and I can rewrite files mounted on 
the same
way.
Maybe it depends on remote filesystem because on Icy Box I have FAT32,
on Debian I've got default ext3.

G'day Anthony,

I have succeeded in adding the noapic parameter to the kernel line in GRUB bt 
editing the kernel line during the boot sequence, and this has restored USB 
functionality. 
Is that it? I mean, do I now need to put the noapic parameter into the GRUB 
kernel boot line as a permanent fixture, or is there a better fix available now 
we know that this can restore USB function?
Does having the noapic parameter in the boot sequence have any other 
consequences? 
What are these IOAPIC's that GRUB is now ignoring?

I am afraid I have some mixed results.

The bug no longer occurs on my laptop as I am now running enlightenment
16 with esd and have removed most of gnome and it's glug - including
Pulseaudio. My problem is solved.

The bug is still present on my Father's computer (73 years old and wanting to 
learn the terminal! My Dad that is, not the pc).
I tried killing pulseaudio while logged in to an X session, and it still hung 
while shutting down. I tried adding localhost.localdomain and the hostname to 
the local ip in /etc/hosts. No effect, so I put localhost under IPV6 as a temp 
fix.

Conclusions? Even though I hashed out the Xsession script for
pulseaudio, it still loaded. Even though I killed pulseaudo, ALSA still
froze during shutdown.

Where I completey removed pulseaudio on the laptop, it shuts down nice
and fast even after I removed the fix from /etc/hosts.

So removing pulseaudio stops the bug, killing the process does not.

Hope that makes sense.

configuration, imho, if gnome-screenshot would remember the specific
settings for the next time it is invoked.

Jim, please note that the fix in this bug, to get a clickable
unencryption, only applies to newly created private directories.

Also, this feature isn't really pointless IMHO, it works very well for
people without autlogin. With this fix it works reasonably well for
autologins as well, it's just quite impossible to transition an
already existing private directory to this fix.

My guess is that this is caused by Compiz. I've had compiz disabled for
a week, and all freezes went away. I have now enabled the default
Visual Effects to normal again, and I'll wait for new freezes to
appear. I haven't enabled the cube anymore though ( maybe it's a single
compiz plugin that's causing this? ).

Ok I got some hints form this bug.
I installed resolvconf  (apt-get install resolvconf) 
and added line to /etc/network/interfaces 
'dns-nameservers 83.102.8.13 83.102.8.3' into iface eth0 inet static section
And now magically resolv.conf  contains those, even after suspend-resume 
sequence.

It was easy, just why in the heck this information is so hard to found.

btw google search for 'site:bugs.launchpad.net network manager resolv.conf 
ubuntu intrepid' 
gives me 589 hits, i think this should indicate that there is a problem.

Had this problem again but now with the added information:

[mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop.

repeating in the Xorg.0.log file. Maybe because this happened when the
laptop was un-attended during the week-end and had been running  this
loop for a long time.

I am having the exact problem as described in Jan Kaessens comment.

openvpn works as a client via command line, but not using network-
manager-openvpn.  I see the additional entries as well when I use the
command 'route' or 'ip r'

The following is what I get when running nm-openvpn plugin:

I'm running a TwinView setup: 2 screens, 2 separate desktops, one on each 
screen with its own task bar, menu, etc.
When I'm starting an application like skype, amarok or pidgin which reside as 
sys tray icon only, the icon is shown on the screen 1 sys tray when started on 
screen 1 but nowhere when started on screen 2.
The only sys tray icon shown on both screens is the volume control.
Since no one seems to know this problem (I posted it on ubuntuforums.org and 
ubuntuusers.de) and it requires to kill those applications from the console, I 
think this is a bug.

System: Ubuntu 8.10 incl. backport repository
Gnome: 2.24.1
Nvidia: 177.80

extract you gave (I don't know if that was intentional or not):

there doesn't seem to be any support / further development on LVE :-(

Whatever you say doesn't change the fact that this project is dead and
unmaintained. Unless an Ubuntu contributor is willing to take on the
role of upstream development and maintenance of this I don't see the
point in packaging it, where it will just end up in the pile of other
unmaintained cruft.

Not this particular symptom, because it seems that all the ISO-8859-1
words in the dictionary are simply skipped.

I played five rounds and did not get a single word with ä or ö in it.
Statistically speaking, a bit over 10% of the words in the file
words.fin contain a character outside the range a-z (that's 59/486 to be
precise, excluding the first line of the file which is just a label) so
after seeing a few hundred words, I started to recognize many of them as
repeats, but none that had the umlaut vowels (in Finnish, there are not
technically umlauts, but you know which I mean).

This is a freshly installed Intrepid amd64 installation, with
LANG=en_US.UTF-8 but Finnish keyboard preferences.  I also tried
LC_ALL=C and LC_ALL=fi_FI.UTF-8 (after installing the Finnish locale via
System  Administration  Language Support) to no avail.  It won't let
me use fi_FI.ISO-8859-1 or fi.ISO-8859-1 or fi_FI.ISO-8859-15 although
they're in /usr/share/i18n/SUPPORTED but this is probably a locale
problem (see below; notice the error messages from locale).

Also I can't seem to strace the program.
