[Bug 282733] Re: Winbind deamon segfaults regularly

2009-01-23 Thread Richard Verwayen
The same symptoms occur here on a setup where
* samba 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.7
* winbind 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.7
is authenticating against a W2K3-Server.

The server is running hardy without any custom modifications.

I just installed apache2-prefork-dev, including libaprutil1-dev, on my

[Bug 307773] Re: apparmor profile in hardy inhibits replication slave

2009-01-23 Thread Andreas Olsson
There is a bug here somewhere, just not the obvious one :)

Actually apparmor handles mysql replication without any trouble on a
fresh hardy install.

The problem arises from the fact that the default relay-log changes from
gutsy to hardy. In gutsy it is /var/run/mysqld-relay-bin.* while hardy
uses /var/run/mysqld-relay-bin.*.

By the way, how did you manage to upgrade your mysql-slave from gutsy to
hardy without breaking (except the apparmor part) its replication? I
used do-release-upgrade and it somehow managed to sabotage my relay-
bin:s in different ways, depending on whatever I kept a relay-log= in
my my.cnf or not.

If you don't object I'll mark this bug as invalid, as it really isn't a
problem with the apparmor profiles in Hardy. Instead I believe we should
create a new bug, dealing with the issues of upgrading a mysql-slave
from Gutsy to Hardy.

bluetooth at the time of lockup. I have de-activated the bluetooth

didnt correct anything, and seemed to cause a greater frequency of
lockups.why the lockups cause the caps lock and num lock to flash I
dont know. Would you like me to post up my system log file?

I noticed one strange thing about data transfer to my phone. Usually I
had to accept incoming connection first and then incoming transmission
and received data. With new kdebluetooth I only have to accept incoming
connection. Transfer itself is silent and data are automatically saved

Palm handheld (see my previous comment).

[Bug 320192] Re: ntfs-3g doesn't support exec option

2009-01-23 Thread Chris Coulson
Hi,

That's odd. You might be correct though. I just had a look through the
option parsing code for ntfs-3g, and exec did not appear to be an option
that was parsed, so I assumed that it was not valid. It doesn't appear
in the man page for ntfs-3g either. I'll revisit this again this
afternoon though. Perhaps we should leave gnome-mount as it is and
perhaps I should add exec to volume.mount.valid_options for the
ntfs-3g objects in HAL

2009-01-23 Thread quiks
Hi!

I'm sorry, but it's working now. In fact before 8.10 I always edited the
xorg.conf + gdm.conf manually without using graphical tools.
This way of doing did not work anymore with 8.10.
I then figured out that the good way of doing it with 8.10 was simply to let
all the config files unedited (default) and use the graphical tools bundeled
with Ubuntu.

Thanks for your help!

[Bug 288093] Re: Can't play sound because of pulseaudio hang

2009-01-23 Thread Casey J Peter
Its not just flash. I'm having the same intermittent crashing (usually
every 1-2 days), and many times I'm doing nothing but streaming audio
via VLC. (unless of course open office has flash embedded -grin.).

This is a pulse audio issue pure and simple. Flash may get the blame as
its used a lot, but when my pulse crashes, firefox locks up (if it is
running), and any video/audio applications do the same until the daemon
and apps using the daemon are manually killed either by command line or
by system manager. Then manually restarting pulse via command line and
then restarting the a/v applications normally. There is no rhyme nor
reason to it other than it is an every 1-3 day occurrence.

If it weren't for the fact that the distribution and gnome are firmly on
the path to keeping pulse as the default, I would rip it out and use
Alsa as the default, but at this point unless we wish to change
distributions or 'self maintain', we're stuck with
thiser.improvement to sound management.

[Bug 308978] Re: Alternate keyboard layout doesn't works after a suspend

2009-01-23 Thread lindelof
I have a similar problem. I have configured under
Sytem-Preferences-Keyboard several keyboard layouts (Swedish, Swiss-
French and US). I want the L-shift + R-shift combination to switch
layout.

I also configured the keyboard to switch the position of the left ctrl
key and the caps-lock key.

I always suspend the laptop when leaving the office, and when I resume
it the layout will not switch anymore and it has forgotten the ctrl-key
exchange.

I have found that if I then enter the System-Preferences-Keyboard
menu, select the Layout tab, click Other Options, expand the Layout
Switching tree, and *just click and un-click the first checkbox*, and
then close everything, the layout switching works again.

Not a critical bug by any means, but a rather annoying one especially
for us international users.

thanks for digging out the patch. Can you please enhance the changelog

the backports-modules package. When I googled, it saw that Ubuntu isn't
the only distribution that has this problem. A fix was sent upstream,
and is present in the latest compat-wireless.

I will try to build the new compat-wireless and see if it fixes things
when I have some spare time.

Re: [Bug 301007] Re: Missing package dependency

An auto backend support within matplotlib would be great. I'll try to
find bug tracker for matplotlib and see if there is a request already

it's on their SF website[1] even if -devel (or -user sometimes)
mailing-list is much more used than tracker.

[1] http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=80706

I think that it will be possible to write a post install script which
 will do the following:

 1) check dependencies for all possible backends
 2) Ignore backends for which dependencies are missing
 3) Out of the working backends pick the pretties one
 4) modify /etc/matplotlibrc to default to one that is installed

what if install-time is weeks before the usage, so that packages gets
installed and removed in between?

By bash-foo is not perfect but I will work on this in the next week or
so. So for now I'll assign this bug to myself. If I succeed I'll work
with debian packaging team to incorporate it =D

The best (only real?) solution is to let upstream provide an auto
mode, like they already said they're working on it.

[Bug 214668] Re: rotating screen degrades performance with intel driver

2009-01-23 Thread schmolch
I was not able to build all the dependencies on jaunty so i installed
gentoo-linux and emerged the xorg.git overlay.
It works very well, there is no loss of performance anymore.
Note that xf86-video-intel-2.6.0 is not recent enough, the patch was added a
few days later, so you need to pull that from git.

[Bug 34199] Re: Evolution cannot connect to Exchange backend process

2009-01-23 Thread era
oss_test_launchpad: as long as the bug is in new / incomplete it
cannot meaningfully be communicated upstream. Once there is a
reasonable understanding of the root cause of the problem, it can be
marked as Confirmed and passed upstream. For further information
about the lifecycle of a bug in Launchpad, see e.g.
http://news.launchpad.net/general/of-bugs-and-statuses and the pages
under https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Triaging (regrettably, I have been
unable to find a single understandable authoritative up-to-date source
for this type of information, but at least that's a start).

It looks like mizu is making good progress with nailing down the nature
of the problem -- please keep us posted!

To my limited understanding, it is correct to assign it to the package
evolution-exchange and should be marked as Invalid for Evolution
proper. But I'm just a random volunteer, and use neither Evolution nor
Exchange.

[Bug 314771] Re: libdrm-dev should install mach64_drm.h

2009-01-23 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package libdrm - 2.4.4-0ubuntu1

---
libdrm (2.4.4-0ubuntu1) jaunty; urgency=low

  * Merge with Debian experimental, remaining changes:
- libdrm-intel1 Replaces libdrm2 (= 2.4.1-0ubuntu5)
- libdrm-dev: Replace linux-libc-dev (= 2.6.28-3.4), since it
includes the drm headers. We will drop them from libdrm-dev
after jaunty alpha2 when the drivers support the new headers.
- debian/libdrm-dev.install: Don't install the drm headers anymore,
the drivers should build against the ones provided by the kernel.
  * debian/libdrm-dev.install: Include a couple of headers not found
in the 2.6.28 kernel (mach64, nouveau). (LP: #314771)
  * debian/control: libdrm-dev Depends on linux-libc-dev (= 2.6.28-5.15).

libdrm (2.4.4-1) UNRELEASED; urgency=low

  [ Timo Aaltonen ]
  * New upstream release. (closes: #505740)
  * debian/rules:
-Run autoreconf at build time, build-depend on automake and libtool.
 (closes: #482727)
-Add a debian/libdrm2.symbols file and '-c4' parameter to dh_makeshlibs
to fail if new symbols are added. Don't use Debian versions for now.

  [ Julien Cristau ]
  * Add a new package for the intel-specific bits (libdrm-intel1)
  * Build-depend on pkg-config and libpthread-stubs0-dev (closes: #502078).
Thanks, Frank Lichtenheld!
  * Don't mention *.la in libdrm-dev.install.
  * Make libdrm-dev depend on libdrm-intel1 on x86.
  * On Linux, let udev create the device files.

[Bug 310760] Re: Built-in microphone on Lenovo USB webcam doesn't work when hald is running

2009-01-23 Thread Martin Pitt
Bah, that's so utterly confusing now. Does arecord work or fail if you
stop hal and run tail -f /proc/asound/card*/pcm*/info
/proc/asound/cards in parallel? That's the *only* thing that hal does
wrt. sound devices.

If you say that it is fixed in intrepid, trying the intrepid kernel
would really be worthwhile, too. If that helps, maybe we can supply a
backported usb sound driver.

[Bug 214219] Re: trackerd uses up all available memory

2009-01-23 Thread era
PaulGaskin: according to its description, Tracker is a local search
tool. It collects information about your files (indexes them) so that
it will not need to perform any actual searching when you perform an
actual search, sort of like Google indexes web sites in advance so it
can respond quickly to a query with results from millions of web sites.
But unlike Google, Tracker does not -- to the best of my knowledge --
make its indices available to anybody or anything outside your home
directory.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tracker_(desktop_search_software)

Granted, if you do not use it to search your files, you do not need its
services, and ought to be able to turn it off, especially if it consumes
resources excessively. In System - Preferences - Sessions - Startup
programs tab, there is a check box for Tracker which you can uncheck --
perhaps you want to try to do that if you hadn't stumbled over this
previously.

Although it's not really pertinent to this bug report, perhaps there
would be room for a separate bug report if you think you have good
reason to believe that the program performs unwanted activity without
you consent. I would speculate that the name of the software might
cause some concern and speculation, but really, this should be the topic
of a separate bug report.

Tracker is open source, so what it does can be vetted completely and
unambiguously by anyone who can read the programming language (C in this
particular case).

[Bug 320373] [NEW] Nautilus and Windows Shares Problem

2009-01-23 Thread nahit67
Public bug reported:

Dear Friends

I am using Ubuntu 8.10 GNOME 2.24.1 (Ubuntu 2008-10-24) and Linux
2.6.27-9-generic. My computer is on a windows network and the server
machine is Microsoft server2003. With samba, i can see all the other
computers shares using nautilus but the shares on the server machine are
invisible. When i write the exact path of a folder on the server, i can
open and see the files and folders. Although i tried all the extensions,
different programs and mounting commands from konsole for nautilus i
couldn't have solved this invisibility problem. But i display the
folders with Konqueror. But i love to use nautilus. I think this is a
small bug for the nautilus.

Thanks...
