[Bug 90681] Re: resolv.conf overwritten using VPN/PPP etc...

2009-02-05 Thread Michael Schwartzkopff
Hi,

I think I get the same problem here on my 8.10. I connect to different
wireless LANs with my notebook. I also use openvpn and vpnc. My problem
ist, that dhcpcd somehow REMEMBERS its resolv.conf configurations and
still applies settings from different WLANs or VPNs when I connect to
new WLANs.

I have to edit my resolv.conf every time manually.

Michael.

[Bug 318703] Re: nagios check_smtp expects integer instead of double

2009-02-05 Thread cyco
Hi,

upstream stated the following:

The proper fix would rather be using the nagios thresholds functions. OTOH
it's more likely that we put time toward implementing the new thresholds
format than fixing plugins that were never converted to the old one.

Feel free to attach a working patch if you wish - we'll consider it
anyway. Otherwise a quick fix would rather be fixing the documentation.

Please provide further informations to launchpad and the upstreambug
too.

Thanks, Jan.

kernel panic when using lvm

2009-02-05 Thread Chantal Rosmuller
I have two servers with Ubuntu 8.04 and the xen kernel, I use lvm
volumes for the xen guests. On different occasions the servers
crashed, all the crashes happened during lvm actions (for example when
I made an lvm snapshot or when I tried to build an ext3 filesystem on
a new logical volume).

uname -a:

Linux servername 2.6.24-16-xen #2 SMP Sun Apr 20 05:49:43 JST 2008
i686 GNU/Linux

There is nothing in /var/log/messages

is this a bug? I have the same setup on a debian server and I never
had a problem there.

Thanks!

[Bug 281188] Re: Panic or segfault in Samba

2009-02-05 Thread Anton Mansurov
Same here:

The Samba 'panic action' script, /usr/share/samba/panic-action,
was called for PID 16283 (/usr/sbin/smbd).

This means there was a problem with the program, such as a segfault.
Below is a backtrace for this process generated with gdb, which shows
the state of the program at the time the error occurred. The Samba log
files may contain additional information about the problem.

If the problem persists, you are encouraged to first install the
samba-dbg package, which contains the debugging symbols for the Samba

[Bug 240387] Re: php5-ldap TLS (start_tls) quirks

2009-02-05 Thread Elliot
I can confirm this issue for both Apache2 with the authnz_ldap module
and php5-ldap running on Ubuntu Hardy x64.

I've tested against both a dapper server running slapd and a hardy
server running slapd. The problem seems worse when the ldap server is
also running under Hardy.

The failed logins are inconsistent, and when Apache fails it gives a 500
error, php5-ldap seems to just connect and immediately disconnect from
ldap and fail to authenticate.

The only solution we've found is to install stunnel4 as a client and
send requests to ldap on the localhost and have stunnel convert them to
ldaps on the remote host.

I have noticed that in Hardy slapd is now using gnutls instead of openssl,
could this be related?
Does anyone know if php5-ldap is calling the local ldap client to make the
connection?
Does it error because it is using an openldap client to talk to a gnutls server?
Has anyone figured out a more appropriate fix?

[Bug 150649] Re: gutsy does not have a working apache+mysql authentication solution

2009-02-05 Thread Steve Dalton
I can also reproduce this bug in Intrepid.

Are there any work-arounds? I have tried using DBD as an alternative -
it works fine but does not support MD5 passwords and as it is a drupal
database I am trying to authenticate off I am stuck with MD5.

Is this module really deprecated? Without DBD supporting MD5 mysql users
are a bit stuck without it. My only alternative is to write my own
custom one.

[Bug 271922] Re: Default ACL not applied on files created through CIFS filesystem (mount.cifs)

2009-02-05 Thread Steve Langasek
Hi Michael,

In the case of Ubuntu 8.10, I think this is principally an oversight.
Note, however, that I've also tested this behavior with the jaunty
kernel which does have CIFS_POSIX_XATTR set, and it makes no difference
to this bug because of the atomicity issue I've outlined.

[Bug 249352] Re: [jaunty] openoffice javaldx could not find a java runtime environment

2009-02-05 Thread Chanchao

I have the same problem. Ubuntu 8.10, installed Sun Java 5 ( I need 5 because
6 doesn't work with Oracle forms), but OO doesn't see it and trying to add it
is unsuccessful. (It claims there is no Java in the folder I select, but it's
lying to me.) Pointing it to /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0.16 is
unsuccessful.

Exporting to Word 2003 doesn't work without Java apparently. This
shouldn't be this hard IMHO.

[Bug 324232] Re: Any KDE4 application started in GNOME becomes full screen

2009-02-05 Thread Peter Soetens
The bug doesn't happen with a new user. So it must be caused by the upgrade
process itself.
While I'm at it, my icon theme was screwed (wrong icons at all places, very
confusing) as well after the upgrade, but I could fix it by re-setting it in
the configuration screen.

Re: [Bug 298483] Re: crash/freeze playing Klondike Solitaire, calling ExaCheckPutImage+0x103

2009-02-05 Thread Dominique Meeùs
Bryce Harrington a écrit ce qui suit, le 05/02/09 06:19 :
Dominique, upstream would like you to test against the current (2.6.x)
driver. The best way to test this is to download an ISO image of
jaunty, which you can do at http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/releases/jaunty/,
burn to CD, boot, and reproduce the issue.
Bryce, you seem to overlook the fact that this bug is absolutely
unpredictable and I can not figure out how to reproduce the issue. I
play Klondike about everyday day and it freezes only about once a month
(since a few month, this seems to be one more 8.10 regression, like
Bluetooth). I have no idea of something special I would be doing when it
freezes. The only thing I can say is that as far as I remember it
happens only while dragging a card, but I would not call dragging a card
special in a card game. To give you an order of magnitude: dragging a
card causes freezing once in nearly ten thousand dragged cards. I
strongly believe that things do not happen without a cause, but here the
cause is hard to figure. It must be a queer combination of particular
circumstances, dragging a card at a particular state of the whole system.

This being so, boot a Jaunty CD and reproduce the issue would mean
working all the time on a live Jaunty CD for weeks or months. (Mind the
fact that with an unpredictable bug of a monthly mean frequency, you
have to wait many months to conclude that the bug is corrected.) It
would be more realistic to install Jaunty for good.

Well, after all, this is not impossible. This is a home computer, not a
professional computer. I do a lot of things on this computer that I do
not want to loose but I rsync -u everything new every day on a USB stick
(to have it at work in my pocket just in case I need something there
too). My mail is in IMAP thus never lost. OK, when I think of it I could
consider installing Jaunty if you answer this question: how buggy is
Jaunty in the present state? is it really a pain working with it? is it
completely unusable at times? how would you compare it with Debian
testing (that some people do use)? is it just a matter of a minor bug
moderately annoying once in a while? I do not ask you to decide for me.
You give me your evaluation of the present buggyness or stability of
Jaunty. I understand that it is my responsibility to appreciate your
answer and to decide, or not, to test Jaunty (glad if this can help) and
I promise not to complain if I do.

Hi,

I think I get the same problem here on my 8.10. I connect to different

still applies settings from different WLANs or VPNs when I connect to
new WLANs.

[Bug 276603] Re: crashed while listening to a mp3 podcast

2009-02-05 Thread martin
Derek,

the gvfs-http leak you mention is not fixed by this SRU but it has been fixed
upstream already so it will be fixed in jaunty for sure. The patch that fixes
the gvfs-http memory leak is available here:
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20351735/gvfs_leak_fix.patch

Indeed you can use the same repro steps as on this bug to trigger the
leak. If you download 20 podcasts of 2MB each you're likely to see 40MB
leaked memory in the gvfs-http process (check VIRT/RES columns in top
for example).

I just ran the repro again on my intrepid box to make sure it still

updated package and ran the repro again and now the bug is gone.

I'm not a big rhythmbox user myself so I won't do any extensive testing
like duanedesign did, but I can assert that the bugfix is working on my
system for sure. I think it can be safely moved from -proposed to a real

[Bug 321402] Re: disk mounter applet shows nfs and davfs mounts only when they are mounted

2009-02-05 Thread Jens Gräf
I can confirm this.

OS: Intrepid amd64

Steps to reproduce:

fstab-entry:
nfs-server:/nfspath /mountpoint nfs user,noauto 0 0

Result:
Current version of drivemount-applet does not show an icon to mount that share.
Earlier versions (I think until hardy) did show an icon.

After mounting the share using
mount /mountpoint
an icon appears allowing me to unmount the share.

[Bug 268685] Re: IO errors in install.py, such as ENOSPC should give more detailed errors to the UI.

2009-02-05 Thread Olaf
I filed this under a different bug before but obviously this is due to
insufficient IO error handling as well.

My ISO file was truncated (incomplete download) and the USB boot disk creator's
error message was just
'Please see .usb-creator.log'. But the log does not include any useful error
information.

It would be really good to include at least the IO error message in the

[Bug 261881] Re: Add romanian translation to openoffice.org

Chris, please consider this for Jaunty. The updated ro translations are
neither in upstream yet, nor in LP - they use a different web
translation tool. They're much better than what we currently have in
Ubuntu. I keep rebuilding OO for this single change in the kiwilinux PPA
but I'd rather have all Ubuntu-ro users have them by default

[Bug 305598] Re: Suspend to RAM make the system hang when my PCMCIA WLAN card is plugged in

2009-02-05 Thread Linux-Elch
Even after several updates on 2.6.27-11-generic regarding power-
management the symptoms are the same.

The WLAN can not connect after resume. Sometimes it helps to remove and
insert the card after resume.

Another work around that seems to reliable reactivate WLAN.
When I disable networking before suspend to RAM, I can enable it after resume
without a problem.

[Bug 324292] Re: (Jaunty) Eschalon Book I runs only in windowed mode and it's terribly slow with Intel video cards

2009-02-05 Thread Axx83
Thanks for the help on this, I'm a newbie regarding bugs.

The reply I got here:
http://basiliskgames.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11t=2080#p16840
was from the developers at Hothead, the creators of Penny Arcade's On the
Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, and I guess their problem is quite different
since their game is full 3d and all that stuff while Eschalon is totally 2d. I
emailed them because neither that game runs on my intel card.

But again I'm no expert on drivers and 3d stuff, I just know a lot about
patents and did a quick search.

Actually I'm a bit puzzled about Eschalon running VERY FINE on hardy
while it runs so bad on Jaunty (and not at all on Intrepid) but so many
things are involved in this that things like this can happen I guess.

I'll email the developers of Eschalon about this bug and the possibility
for them to solve it by collaboration with the drivers programmers.

Thanks again for the help.

Okay, it sounds like it could be some sort of configuration option, that gives
