[Bug 149555] Re: CompizConfig-settings-manager has no icons

2009-03-22 Thread G. Christ
In Kubuntu Jaunty today I have installed the compiz-kde package, because
compiz depends on compiz-gnome (I think it should depend on compiz-
gnome | compiz-kde, bug #347077 ) and compizconfig-settings-manager. Now
I can confirm this bug still exists, there are no icons in CCSM.

Installing librsvg2-common fixes the problem. This should be solved only
by adding librsvg2-common as a dependency for compizconfig-settings-
manager?

[Bug 346095] Re: notify-osd doesn't honor my preference

2009-03-22 Thread Michael B. Trausch
Just happened across this quote from Mark Shuttleworth's blog:

You can’t click on the notifications, we don’t have a “dismiss” button,
and we don’t support actions (buttons) on the notifications. As for
size, the size is based on your system font settings. They are designed
not to take too much space, and fit in with other work we will deliver
over the next year. The positioning won’t be configurable, because as I
say other screen elements have to fit around them.

Hopefully, that will change? If not, I see a lot of people reverting to
notification-dæmon or someone forking and fixing notify-osd...

1. Is this problem reproducible?
2. What are the steps taken to reproduce this problem?
3. Are you using 32 or 64 bit Ubuntu?

This will help.

[Bug 347078] [NEW] runaway Xorg in drmDMA() (radeon)

2009-03-22 Thread Akkana Peck
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

New after upgrading to jaunty (no problem with intrepid on this
machine):

X will work for a while, but eventually (could be minutes or hours after
booting) it suddenly jumps to 90+% CPU. I can still move the mouse, sort
of (it's laggy and jumpy) but mouse clicks don't work, keyboard events
don't work, and apps apparently stop redrawing.

This doesn't seem to be in response to anything in particular -- nothing
intensive going on in Firefox, no flash or animations, all other windows
are pretty simple (xterm, xchat, emacs).

Video card (from lspci):
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 SE]
(rev 01)
01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 SE]
(Secondary) (rev 01)

I can still ssh in from another machine, but I can't kill (even with -9)
the window manager or Xorg -- killing has no effect. All I can do is
reboot.

If I attach to the Xorg process and check every few seconds, the trace each
time looks like:
(gdb) where
#0 0xe430 in __kernel_vsyscall ()
#1 0xb7d64d59 in ioctl () from /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6

I see xserver-xorg-video-ati-dbg in the package list, and would be happy
to install it if it would help.

[Bug 347077] [NEW] compiz should depend on {compiz-gnome | compiz-kde}

[Bug 267913] Re: hda-intel: IRQ timing workaround is activated for card #0. Suggest a bigger bdl_pos_adj

2009-03-22 Thread Mike Mol
I just noticed this in my dmesg as well:

[ 38.792010] ath0: no IPv6 routers present
[ 3001.069882] CE: hpet increasing min_delta_ns to 15000 nsec
[66541.465330] hda-intel: IRQ timing workaround is activated for card #0.
Suggest a bigger bdl_pos_adj.

(Those three lines follow each other in the output of dmesg; Included
for timing context.)

Current kernel is 2.6.27-11-generic, using linux-restricted-modules, as
well as a build of madwifi (Since Ubuntu's build doesn't support my
model of Atheros card.).

I've attached the output of lspci -vvnn and lsmod. I'm not experiencing
any sound issues outside of Flash hitting a massive stutter problem
after it's allowed to run long enough, but I don't think that's related,
as it happens on another computer with completely different hardware.

[Bug 234753] Re: gnome-terminal doesn't kill processes when closing a tab

2009-03-22 Thread Andreas Moog
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed
in the latest development version of Ubuntu - the Jaunty Jackalope. It
won't be fixed in previous versions of Ubuntu because the package
doesn't fit the requirements for backporting. See
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports for more information.

[Bug 347073] [NEW] rtirq-init does not support firewire audio interfaces

2009-03-22 Thread Артём Попов
Public bug reported:

The current /etc/default/rtirq configuration does not prioritize
firewire audio:

RTIRQ_NAME_LIST="rtc snd usb i8042"
RTIRQ_NON_THREADED="rtc snd"

As recommended by various sources, this list could be extended to
include ohci1394:

RTIRQ_NAME_LIST="rtc ohci1394 snd usb i8042"
RTIRQ_NON_THREADED="rtc ohci1394 snd"

So, that firewire interfaces will also get a higher priority. Please

[Bug 344697] Re: sfcb fails to stop, resulting in sblim-cmpi-base failing to install

2009-03-22 Thread danmcgoo
I looked to the source of the sblim-cmpi-base debian package.
SFCB is effectively stopped with the init script (/etc/init.d/sfcb).
But I noticed that SFCB usually have some problems to stop by using this
script, usually when SFCB is in an unresponding state.
My method is to kill it with a "killall -9 sfcbd".

More genarally I noticed that SFCB have some responding problems.

[Bug 223075] Re: gnome main menu applet makes panel size to large

2009-03-22 Thread paul boyle

My humble contribution (running asus eeepc900 2Gram eeebuntu 2.0):

Unchecking 'show icons in menus' does indeed allow 19pix resizing of
panel but has the unfortunate side-affect of INCREASING panel menu item
size. Having only 1024x600 real estate, the extra pixels do count.
This approach allows you to keep icons in menus and gets the right panel
size.

This hack is for the desperate and the curious. It will be overwritten
by theme upgrades and pays no heed to security concerns. If you don't
understand what the following commands do then PLEASE don't execute
them. You should always know how to undo changes YOU make to YOUR
system.

I sledgehammered a dirty fix by backing up then soft linking all
relevant "icon size" directories to the 16x16 counterpart. e.g. using
icon set Gion (these settings trickle through a hierarchy specific to
your setup - this is for guidance only!!):

cd /usr/share/icons/Gion
sudo mv 24x24 24x24_bak
sudo ln -s 16x16 24x24

Repeat for any size/icon that you think might be relevant (including
'scalable'). Reboot X.

I suspect a more rigorous approach will identify the panel's
interpretation of the 'start-here' icon as the culprit but I am
currently too lazy/drunk to prove this. Fyi, I installed a new icon
theme (sudubuntu for netbooks) and the correct scale was preserved.
Since this theme does not override 'start-here', I am even more inclined
to believe that 'start-here' is at the root of this feature.

I will try to upload a screen shot of my darling little eee's desktop
(modified BlueHeart controls, Mist borders, Sudubuntu icons).

BTW - I wouldn't hold your breath for a fix for this. It ain't going to
happen. People like big icons ;o)

Paul

[Bug 346806] Re: gnome-system-monitor does not always show all processes

2009-03-22 Thread Andreas Moog
Still can't replicate, but can add some discovery:

If sudo has been used in the session before and a password is not
needed, system-monitor correctly identifies updatedb as the process-
name. If a password is needed, sudo is shown as the name. The PID
displayed by top, ps and system-monitor are the same, so they still
point to the same process, there is no hidden one. Also, the reported
CPU-Usage is the same for the sudo process in system-monitor and
updatedb in top.

Still, the name confusion issue should be reported upstream, can you
file a report on bugzilla.gnome.org?

But the problem is intermittent, and I can't correlate it with anything

Hi! Isn't this bug another duplicate of bug 345417? There's quite a
number of these floating around already...

[Bug 347064] [NEW] import -frame doesn't work, saves a frame around solid black

2009-03-22 Thread Akkana Peck
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: imagemagick

New in jaunty: import -frame foo.png (or .jpg, or whatever) doesn't
work.

import foo.png saves the window contents, no frame, as before.
import -frame foo.png saves an image of the window frame with no contents, just
blackness inside the frame.

Worked in intrepid and earlier releases.

-frame is also quite slow: it takes several seconds longer than an
import without -frame, which also wasn't true in intrepid.

magemagick:
  Installed: 7:6.3.7.9.dfsg1-2ubuntu3
  Candidate: 7:6.3.7.9.dfsg1-2ubuntu3

2. What steps are needed to reproduce this problem?
3. Is this problem in 32 or 64bit Ubuntu?

that will help.

I'll echo that. I can't see how this bug report is confined to a particular
chipset. We at IYCC see the problem on several hardware configurations.

It's really a generic problem that should be fixed generically.

[Bug 88746] Re: ehci_hcd module causes I/O errors in USB 2.0 devices

2009-03-22 Thread Bill Smith
I just tried Mike's suggestion,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/88746/comments/500
re ' /etc/initramfs-tools/modules' and it seems to have fixed my setup?!
(see my bug for my complete setup and test case,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/313603 )

I did *not* tweak my kernel image, either, so that step seems to have
been unnecessary. Is that even possible, though, or is it impossible
that editing the 'modules' file alone could change the order in which
OHCI and EHCI load?

[Bug 213708] Re: Please compile Firefox with PGO optimizations

2009-03-22 Thread Craig
I can't help but notice that, at the top, asac has marked that Jaunty
won't be getting PGO for Xulrunner or Firefox 3.0 or 3.1/3.5. Is this
true? Mozilla's Linux binaries are PGO enabled... isn't it good enough
that upstream does it, as well as other distros?

If Jaunty really won't be getting PGO-enabled builds... if I may be so
bold.. why not? Thanks
