I just tried Mike's suggestion,

re ' /etc/initramfs-tools/modules' and it seems to have fixed my setup?!

I did *not* tweak my kernel image, either, so that step seems to have
been unnecessary.  Is that even possible, though, or is it impossible
that editing the 'modules' file alone could change the order in which
OHCI and EHCI load?
