Tomasz, Thanks for the suggestion. It worked. My Windows shares become available immediately after my wireless connections start. Your machine resolves pc-chiara as 195.210.87.131 so it's quite normal that samba cannot connect to it. You probably can't ping it either. Re: [Bug 366294] Re: package mysql-server-5.0 5.1.30really5.0.75-0ubuntu10 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess pre-installation script killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Mysql had already been installed. I don't know why I got the failed install message. Since Mysql was already configured, I opted NOT to use dbconfig-common to configure the settings. Then I got the error. Late last night I did a purge remove of phpmyadmin and repeated the process ACCEPTING to have dbconfig-common configure the settings. That fixed it. Thanks for the quick reply, nice to see that. I hope the previous information helps. Follow up to my above comment: Disabling the local cdrom repository in my Synaptic settings seems to have worked around this problem. Waited for a few minutes; saw some activity in 'top' -- rebooted after it was done After reboot, nVidia driver works, and I can change my Appearance - Visual Effects settings. I did notice my wireless connection (wlan0; Intel PRO/Wireless 5300 AGN [Shiloh] using 'iwlagn' driver ) had trouble right after I did this, and I had to disable and re-enable it in Network Manager before it finally reconnected. [Bug 366711] Re: 3G Broadband card is recognized but internetconnection does not work
I don't know if it is the same problem, but I've got a Dell e6500 with built in 3G, network-manager in Jaunty recognizes the card and is willing to configure a Mobile Broadband network for it. When I try to connect to it, it tell me it couldn't, yet, if I look at the logs, I see it authenticate and get an IP address, and then it disconnects. If I use wvdial from a terminal, it connects and works ! -- 3G Broadband card is recognized but internetconnection does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/366711 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 328089] Re: splashy 0.3.13-3ubuntu1 conflicts with lsb-base
Same problem with Jaunty final, upgraded from Intrepid Ibex. I was able to install it issuing dpkg --force-overwrite -i /var/cache/apt/archives/splashy_0.3.13-3ubuntu1_i386.deb. It won't work either, but after passing the string vga=number to the kernel line in menu.lst i was able to see again a splash screen. -- splashy 0.3.13-3ubuntu1 conflicts with lsb-base https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/328089 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 367160] [NEW] Modeline scanning behavior does not match documentation (off-by-one error?)

[Bug 367164] [NEW] Set date and time automatically doesn't work
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace When I check Set date and time automatically in systemsettings, that will set the time and date that one time, but the next time I open systemsettings, the option is always unchecked again. Is this thing supposed to adjust datetime automatically in regular intervals? With ntpd? If it's not, the labeling and the interface with the checkbox is misleading and should be changed (like from a checkbox to a button). That would make it more clear that what you're doing is a one-time synchronization, not setting the system up to undergo regular synchronization with a time server. [Bug 367170] [NEW] tracker / odt2txt get stuck when OpenOffice file has German special character
Public bug reported: Updated to jaunty a few days ago, noticed that tracker / odt2txt got stuck (high CPU load) while odt2txt is processing a OpenOffice.org Calc file that contains the german letter ß (this character looks like the greek beta). Get an error message that tracker cannot create index. When removing this letter from the file, everything is ok. Can also reproduce this by applying odt2txt --raw to the file directly, output stops just after the character. Is this a locale issue? Other german characters (ü = u umlaut etc.) are ok.
