[Bug 377204] [NEW] The application Plasma Workspace (plasma) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV).

2009-05-16 Thread Peter T Hayward
Public bug reported:

System: MacMini Solo (2006) with 2G RAM
Software: Kubuntu 9.04 updated to 14 May 2009 (KDE 4.2.2, samba
2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3)
The report shown in the title of this bug occurred just after I set up a samba
share on my home directory in Dolphin. The desktop disappeared for a second,
but returned. The trace said it failed to capture any traceback.
The share was set up.
In attach .xsession-errors with some plasma diagnostics in it.

[Bug 283811] Re: cups says can't promp for authorization when printing to my samba printer

2009-05-16 Thread luisguer
Do not know why it works, but following the instructions given at
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-829706.html , that is, going to
System/Administration/Printers and copying the printer (with a new name, of
course) solved the problem.
Hope this also works for all of you

[Bug 377356] [NEW] ssh-askpass has no Option to save the Passphrase to a keyring

2009-05-16 Thread eremit7
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ssh-askpass-gnome

When Ssh-askpass asks for a pass phrase to a ssh-key on previews
releases, there was a checkbox for saving the pass phrase in the keyring
and lock it up when logging in. Under Jaunty (with ssh-askpass-gnome
version 1:5.1p1-5ubuntu1) this Option is no longer available, so there
is no possibility to get new pass phrases into the keyring.

For clarification see this screenshot of working window in Hardy:

[Bug 365390] Re: postfix: invalid value for smtpd_tls_mandatory_ciphers in main.cf

2009-05-16 Thread Jonathan Marsden
@Mathias: That's fine. I was just following the example set by some
other parameters in that same file, very close to the line being
discussed, such as

  set_postfix_option smtpd_tls_mandatory_protocols = SSLv3, TLSv1

and also

  set_postfix_option tls_random_source = dev:/dev/urandom

which seem to me to be setting things to the same value as the default.
I therefore thought there must be a reason for doing it this way, and so
I carefully followed the example set by the creators of this script :)

I think it would be good to be consistent about this, and *only* set
things which are non-default, unless there really is a valid reason for
doing otherwise?

Attached is a new debdiff that just removes the one line for
smtpd_tls_mandatory_ciphers. If you feel we should also remove the
others that set things the same as the default, let me know :)

BTW, I looked at doing this as a bzr branch, but was puzzled by the
branch name being ubuntu-intrepid, so I just did a debdiff instead,
rather than risk a mistake of using the wrong bzr branch!

[Bug 283811] Re: cups says can't promp for authorization when printing to my samba printer

2009-05-16 Thread Paul Dufresne
By the way: What means Changed in gtk: status: Unknown → Fix Released ??
As I understand it, it means that Gnome have now included a patch in their
development version to be able to ask a username and password.

So Gnome will (the day your version of Ubuntu will include this new patch) ask
a username and password when
AuthInfoRequired username, password will be in /etc/cups/printers.conf.

Since that bug suggest that it does not really need a password (since it
is able to print without giving one), I doubt it will help much.

I note that GNOME have used the following CUPS documentation to write their
patch :
http://www.cups.org/doc-1.4/api-cups.html#PASSWORDS_AND_AUTHENTICATION

Just commenting that this bug still exists on an upgrade from 8.10 to
9.04. The upgrade completed with errors (the ca-certificates failing to
install). Unknown if this is a problem, and if so what I should do to
correct it. Will monitor this resource for more information.

I had quite some problems after upgrading from 8.10 to 9.04 and
therefore I stepped back to 8.10 which in my opinion is more stable.
Just waiting maybe half a year till 9.04 is in a better shape.

Best regards,
Piet

[Bug 371302] Re: When I play AVI file, the system crashes immediately

2009-05-16 Thread TMIT World
re John Haitas - request to attach a movie clip

The problem is the same for ALL movie clips of ALL types. We have tested this
on multiple devices - both server and desktop edition. It is true for both
fresh installs on a new machine as well as upgrade installs.
All the movie clips tested work fine on MS Windows (we only have one MS
machine). All files work fine on machines with version 8.10 that we have not
upgraded yet and used to work fine on 8.04

FWIW - the first frame of the movie clip appears as a thumbnail when put
on the desktop.

We doubt it will help but here is one file.

[Bug 288418] Re: GIMP-GAP has no encoder support

2009-05-16 Thread mrg
I believe I have discovered why this is.

I decided to compile gimp-gap-2.4.0 from the source tarball at gimp.org.
Using all dev packages from the repository (9.10) for gimp and other
dependencies, the build failed in file ./gap/gap_dbbrowser_utils.c line 160.
Apparently (according to the comments) this function is a copy of one including
in the gimp source header files. gcc fails because it doesn't know which
version of the function to use and instead of using the local copy - it returns
the error - function already defined in _SOME_GIMP_HEADER_H and gives the file
name. Why this function is copied from the gimp libs makes no sense to me, but
removing the local copy of the function in gap_dbbrowser_utils.c (or commenting
out) will result in a successful build.

My guess is that the package maintainer either mis-interpreted the error
or has a policy of not modifying code and just disabled the offending
module in the configure options. This disabled the ffmpeg video encoder
support.

[Bug 350531] Re: Jaunty does not boot from USB on SB600/RS690

2009-05-16 Thread Sergey Zelenev
LiveCD does not boot since the only CD drive the T5730 has is a USB drive -
there are no internal IDE connectors.
However the text mode installer kernel from Ubuntu 9.04 works fine and detects
all the drives - for example, in rescue mode.
I got Ununtu 9.04 installed on the built-in ATA flash.
The built-in ATA flash is not large enough to hold both /boot, /lib and /usr,
so I have to store /usr on a USB drive, but the system still does not boot all
the way.

[Bug 333462] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in strlen()

2009-05-16 Thread Christian Neumair
I am the Nautilus-Open-Terminal maintainer. It looks like the patch
proposed in bug 309529 comment 18 introduces custom URI parsing, instead
of reusing the GnomeVFS functions, probably for completely migrating
away from GnomeVFS. We should instead wait until the string parsing
landed in glib before migrating wway. I understand that the lack of a
release for the last few months created an unfortunate situation, sorry
for that. I just released Nautilus-Open-Terminal 0.10.

However, regarding the patches: Guys, there is a reason why complex
string parsing should be done by libraries instead of hand-crafting it.
Judging from the diff [1], the parsing does not look robust. One
possibility would be to migrate back to GnomeVFS as in Nautilus-Open-
Terminal [2], but I don't know how feasible this is for a stable
release.

I am attaching a unit test for the string parsing function used by
Ubuntu, to allow further debugging.

[Bug 174832] Re: ubuntu gnome-terminal - wrong key mapping in bash with a french keyboard

2009-05-16 Thread Fred Mora
*SOLVED*

I had a similar problem with a brand new install of Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty)
with a French keyboard.

At the first boot, the keyboard mapping was US. I simply used the gnome-
keyboard-properties application to add a French layout and make it the
default. At this point, I had two keyboard layouts defined in this app,
the US (not used) and the French (default).

However, I observed that in gnome-terminal and some other gtk apps; the
emacs line editing command was still obeying the US layout (e.g., to
send the cursor to the beginning of the line, Ctrl-A didn't work, I had
to hit Ctrl-Q, because Q and A are switched between the French and US
layout). So this was the same problem as Oli44 (and other posters).

Solution: using gnome-keyboard-properties, I deleted the US layout. Now
the gnome-terminal line editing works normally.

This is still a bug in gtk, however.

[Bug 373645] Re: Most simple plasma Ruby script does not run

2009-05-16 Thread Adrien Cordonnier
I have found a solution by installing package libkorandum-ruby1.8 which
gives Ruby binding for Plasma.

This package should be automatically installed if someone install a
Plasmoid which requires it. Plasmoid can be installed with the Get Hot
New Stuff Plasma tool without using a deb package manager.

1) Plasma should install libkorandum-ruby1.8 if X-Plasma-API=ruby-script is
in the metadata.desktop installation file of the plasmoid (zip archive)
2) Plasma should install dependencies as stated in X-KDE-PluginInfo-Depends=
in the metadata.desktop installation file.

[Bug 377191] [NEW] irregular screen blanking (every few seconds)

2009-05-16 Thread pn
Public bug reported:

Symptom:

The screen blanks every couple of seconds (at irregular intervals) when
I use it at the highest resolution (1600x1200). It goes off for a second
or two. I am not sure whether the DVI signal really is absent for so
long or whether the screen takes that long to recover.

Configuration:

X-server module: intel (the problem does not occur with fbdev, even at
1600x1200)
Resolution; 1600x1200 (the problem does not occur at 1280x1024).
Strangely enough, X does not set 1600x1200 automatically, although the TFT
clearly supports is

This is not related to desktop effects (compiz) etc, blanking does occur
with effects turned off and without any user interaction.

Somehow I wonder whether this is related to a bug related to xrandr, and
KDE interfering with a misdetection of an attached screen. At least I do
get lines saying DVI monotor detected on HDMI-2 in Xorg.log, although
I think that it really is connected to HDMI-1 (see attached log).

I tried to disable RandR polling in KDE, but am not sure whether this worked
(the checkbox in kcontrol that allowed to turn it off in earlier versions of
KDE 4 is gone):
:~/.local$ cat screen-configurations.xml | grep polling
 pollingfalse/polling

Here the output of xrandr:

~$ xrandr -q

   640x48075.0 72.8 75.0 66.7 59.9

I understand this bug report is less clear than it ideally would be, but
I wasn't able to locate the bug more precisely.

[Bug 333462] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in strlen()

2009-05-16 Thread Christian Neumair
The attached file is a simple test application for the routine proposed
by Maxim Levitsky. I agree with maleadt's review: It seems to work fine,
except for the port parsing which can be fixed via '*port=atoi(tmp);'.
Another aspect is that you may want to support the ssh scheme, which
is equivalent to sftp. Thanks for your efforts.

Please notice that the patch will not make it upstream.

installed, such as libflash-mozplugin, mozilla-plugin-gnash, or swfdec-mozilla,
mark them for removal. Then after removing swfdec-mozilla, I opened a
terminal, typed sudo apt-get remove flashplugin-nonfree. Went to You Tube,
everything was working great. Below are the directions.Bye!

Open up System → Administration → Synaptic Package Manager, and search for
flash.
The packages you want are flashplugin-nonfree, libflashsupport, and possibly
ubuntu-restricted-extras (which will install the flashplugin-nonfree package
and a number of others).
Mark those for installation (or reinstallation).
If any others are installed, such as libflash-mozplugin, mozilla-plugin-gnash,

mark them for removal. Then type sudo apt-get remove flashplugin-nonfree.

[Bug 281471] Re: Unable to use 'locate' to locate files mlocate.db permission denied

2009-05-16 Thread Fred Mora
Jordan,

I had the same problem. After a Jaunty install, I found that
/usr/bin/mlocate belonged to the ssl-cert group, clearly incorrect!

Reading the man page for locate, I found that locate (which is symlinked
to mlocate by default) must run as a set-gid mlocate (which means the
process automatically belongs to the mlocate group on startup).

Ian Abbott's solution is therefore the correct one. Yours works, but
users are not supposed to belong to this group. This might create
security exposures on multi-user systems.

[Bug 377194] [NEW] Thinkpad T61 locks up / freezes randomly; no flashing caps lock light, mouse cursor can be moved

2009-05-16 Thread Martin Rehn
Public bug reported:

I was experiencing Bug #300693 (Thinkpad T61p hardlock flashing caps
lock) on a Thinkpad T61. This is on a standard Jaunty 386 generic
install, up to date as of 2009-05-16. After installing linux-backports-
modules-jaunty, as suggested in the comments to that bug report, the
machine still freezes, but slightly differently: the mouse cursor can
still be moved and the CapsLock LED is not flashing. Otherwise the
machine does not respond, but the SysRq key works.

I am reporting these slightly softer freezes separately in this
report, as suggested by Jamin W. Collins. I'd be happy to hear
suggestions on how to hunt down this bug.

[Bug 377196] [NEW] mousetweaks breaks the cursor

2009-05-16 Thread xaelis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mousetweaks

As soon as mousetweaks functionality is used, for example holding
primary button for secondary click, the mouse cursor is replaced bad an
ugly things. And the ugly thing stays until I logout.

I can not take a screen shot of that, since on the screen shot the
cursor is normal.

I am using xorg intel driver.
Using compiz or not do the same.

[Bug 377195] [NEW] caps lock crypt setup

Public bug reported:

I use encrypted partitions. When I enter the password I have no clue if
Caps Lock is on or off. I would love to have a on screen indicator
telling this state to me.

Another simpler approach is to just ignore the state of caps lock during
crypt setup.

i came to look for solution.

[Bug 373020] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 - flash video requests Javascript on 64 bit

2009-05-16 Thread Melinda
I just wanted say that I'm very impressed with 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope)
version. Being a windows XP user most of my life. I found the change
to Ubuntu a bit difficult, annoying, because it seemed like every
simple task was nightmare in Ubuntu as opposed to windows. But I have
to admit these last couple of months I've been with Ubuntu, have been
great. The user friendly help/assistance is awesome without there I
help I would surely be lost. So to all the Ubuntu team, keep up the
good work. Bye!
