[Bug 368491] Re: Cannot mount partition on iSCSI LUN
Got it! There's a conflict between open-iscsi and multipath-tools. After removing multipath-tools, mounting iSCSI LUNs works fine! So there are two options: 1. quick fix: mark the conflict in the package meta-data so that they cannot be installed simultaneously 2. slow fix: work out why mounting iSCSI LUNs fails if multipath-tools are installed and fix it. Personally, I don't mind which..., I'm now happy. [Bug 379093] [NEW] check_by_ssh does not populate output file in passive mode
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nagios-plugins-basic Nagios plugin check_by_ssh doesn't work as expected in passive mode. The output file is created, but not populated, same check in active mode completes successfully. Same exact check executed by a newer version of the plugin, built from source, populates the output file with the result of the check as expected. 1) The release of Ubuntu, via 'lsb_release -rd': Description:Ubuntu 8.04.2 Release:8.04 2) The version of the package, via 'apt-cache policy nagios-plugins-basic': nagios-plugins-basic: Installed: 1.4.11-1ubuntu5 Candidate: 1.4.11-1ubuntu5 Version table: *** 1.4.11-1ubuntu5 0 500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3) What I expect to happen: When check_by_ssh is ran in passive mode, it should output the result of the remote check command to the explicitly specified output file. This result should already be in passive check result format (see below) so it can be easily appended to Nagios external command file. Here's an example: $ ./check_by_ssh -H remotehost -n testhost -s apt -C /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_apt -O /tmp/result $ cat /tmp/result [1242858973] PROCESS_SERVICE_CHECK_RESULT;testhost;apt;0;APT OK: 0 packages available for upgrade (0 critical updates). I was able to achieve the desired behaviour by running newer version of the check_by_ssh plugin, which I manually complied from official 1.4.13 source package. 4) What happened instead: When I ran the latest binary Hardy (i386) version of the plugin $ ./check_by_ssh -H remotehost -n testhost -s apt -C /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_apt -O /tmp/result APT OK: 0 packages available for upgrade (0 critical updates). $ The active check result was printed to stdout, but nothing was printed to /tmp/result. It's almost as if plugin is executing in active, rather than passive mode. Not sure if it matters, but I'm running Ubuntu JeOS as VMware gues OS. [Bug 378928] [NEW] Resume on Thinkpad W500 (Radeon HD3650, fglrx) gives black screen
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pm-utils This may be a duplicate of #378400 and is similar to #285909 (but with different video card). Suspend appears to work correctly. Resume works properly save for the display. Screen remains unlit and unresponsive in almost all tests. In a few rare cases the resume works correctly (appears to be basically random, though the difficulty of reproducing makes it hard to say). SSH into the machine after resume works correctly and all seems to be well, save that the video card seems to be running full-out (causing the machine to overheat rather dramatically). Have attempted enabling s3 bios quirk modes in HAL configuration without any change in symptoms and have tried with quirk-vbe-post both enabled and disabled, with the same result. [Bug 366678] Re: 9.04 fails to boot on HP DV2-1030US laptop
While that's an interesting workaround, this seems to point to a more fundamental problem with either AMD's chipsets (all of the computers affected by this bug--including both of mine, a home-built desktop running on a 790gx motherboard and a toshiba satellite running on a Turion processor) or how they interact with the Linux kernel. Of particular interest to me is my desktop, sporting an MSI DKA790GX motherboard and athlon x2 4850e. I get the same error when trying to boot from USB, but not from CD or hard disk (both SATA devices). This leads me to suspect that the computer is looking in the wrong place for the kernel when booting from USB (I presume that the external DVD drive that others are referring to are external USB drives?) Oh, and interestingly enough I seem to have the same problem with a completely different OS than Ubuntu: booting a Dosbox image from USB fails, but booting the same image burned to a CD succeeds. So this may actually be an AMD problem, or rather the 9.04 release stumbled on a weakness in the AMD chipsets that they happened to miss with the 8.10 release, which others have remarked works fine. -- 9.04 fails to boot on HP DV2-1030US laptop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/366678 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 378932] [NEW] Evolution freezes on Microsoft Exchange access
Public bug reported: I've seen other reports that seem to touch on this issue, but none that are precisely what I am seeing. Issue: I configured Evolution to access a Microsoft Exchange account and I am effectively unable to use the resulting account with Evolution. When I initially added the account, it appeared to configure properly. When I opened Evolution, I saw the email in the account. But as soon as I tried to delete an email message, Evolution froze. Force-quitting Evolution and the evolution-exchange-storage process allows me to open Evolution again, and regain access to my Exchange data. But as soon as I try to delete a message, everything locks up again. This is now completely reproducible- all I need to do is try to delete an email from my Exchange account to trigger the freeze/crash. Force- quitting Evolution and evolution-exchange-storage brings things back, but they freeze when delete is tried again. I'm running Ubuntu 9.04, which I obtained via a distro upgrade from 8.10. Unfortunately, I never tried Evolution on 8.10, so I can't say if it worked properly prior to the upgrade to 9.04. I have enabled jaunty-proposed updates and am current with everything as of now. [Bug 376807] Re: ubuntu everywhere
** Description changed: rationale: UBUNTU EVERYWHERE!!! - not all my files are everywhere - - my favorite programs/setting are @home + - my favorite programs/setting/bookmarks/msn history are @home - i don't have install rights @school - i need that windows program! - they don't have ubuntu at work (the sacrilege!!!) - net-books are to sexy - laptops are to light - people are questioning my nerdyness solution!!!: UBUNTU EVERYWHERE!!! The ultimate USB stick, that allows you to run your own desktop and favorite apps anywhere! - If you boot it it should act as a normal live usb distro, but this time one that will save any changes you make, and allows you to install stuff... (not sure how its now... i somehow failed to make one... will test later :P) - portable ubuntu like if put in windows box, this will run ubuntu apps in windows!(described more in detail bellow) http://lifehacker.com/5195999/portable-ubuntu-runs-ubuntu-inside-windows similar for mac if possible (though this is less important, cause there are just many more windows pc's out there, and you should shun mac users anyways!) - if you put it in a foreign ubuntu machine, you should load a guest like account for ubuntu, but this time with your favorite settings (maybe also use the packages/programs on the usb if not on the host pc... might be a dependency hell... so you'll have to think about this :P) All of these should make use of the same data!!!. you want all programs everywhere!!! and you want everything similar!!! From this point it is just a better usb live implementation but Canonical is creating a new dropbox like service, https://ubuntuone.com/ All the files (program settings, plugins etc..) (and maybe later packages, but that could be solved by my solotion bellow) should be synced by this service, so that if you lose your usb stick its not a complete disaster), and it makes integration with the desktop even more awesome (objective post are for noobs). also this makes it possible to make full use of the ubuntu one features on a foreign computer, on windows environments! (they werent planning on making any ports) This also allows you to use ubuntu one on offline computers!!!, cause the moment you get home, all data is synced. Stick it in UBUNTU!: It would be great if not only your documents, but also your applications whould stay the same on your home pc. what if once you add it into your ubuntu machine (or any ubuntu pc on which you have admin rights i guess..) you can get the options: sync the packages from my computer to the usb stick. sync the packages from my usb stick to my computer (might be usefull for computers without internet connection). clone this USB stick (make it viral!) create a package/repository list document (Space on an usb stick is limited, but once you get to an other computer, you should be able to select to install all packages from this list aswell (you will download, this way cloning will also be possible for smaller usb sticks). Stick it in Windows!/Mac!: There should be an autorun.ini (something simular for mac) that opens a menu with the following options: - startup portable ubuntu - open file browser - startup ubuntu as virtual box (for those who can't live without there favorite background) - install as dual boot / full install / install portable ubuntu / clone me! - stop bugging me! (close the window) - remote desktop to my home pc (or a cloud version... more bellow :P) --- maybe not really necessery... but still cool :P (this also gets you to use your remote desktops if you dont have the admin rights to install the tools you might otherwise need) most of these options should have a radio button behind them to set them as the prefered action, so that the next time you insert the USB stick, it wont open the damn menu, for this will become very annoying... (implementation... make the autorun.ini run the .exe with a flag, that will auto pick the default setting, this way if you manualy click the .exe, it will open the menu again, so you can change the default, or pick an other action :P) Boot it!: - start default live session - install normal ubuntu (you like to share ubuntu with the world, but you dont want to share your files) - sync the usb stick to the computer (clone it :P) (though some additional options should be set here...) - (the other options the live usb/ live cd offer :P) Important/implementation stuff: - the file system should not be supported by MAC OS X!! cause if you insert your USB stick in a mac hole, you'll garaunteed to get aids!! (2 files in every directory, that are supposed to store the map display settings or something... BAD MAC!!) instead the open file browser option in the menu should translate it. [Bug 378925] Re: OpenOffice calc annoyingly slow spreadsheet editing performance with this simple document
I've updated the description to be more specific - can you see any slowness in the actions I've described? ** Description changed: I attach a small document I created which when loaded into OpenOffice Calc is unreasonably slow even for simply moving the cursor around between spreadsheet cells in columns C, D, and E. [Bug 378938] [NEW] low laptop volume with 82801l / ALC269
Public bug reported: I have a Fujitsu-SIemens T5010 laptop with an Intel 82801I audio controller, and it seems to me that the range of the sound controls is too low somehow. I have tried tweaking them in alsamixer, from the volume applet, and from system-preferences-sound. If I put all the controls at maximum, or very near maximum I get a normal sound level, but I could never set it to what I would consider loud. PeIrhaps the speakers are inherently low-sound (it's a new laptop, and I've only run ubuntu 9.04 on it, so I have nothing to compare with), but I doubt that. Also, using the mic to record with audacity, I need to use the maximum setting for the mic. The front mic doesn't work, I need to use the internal mic. (Don't know what front mic is, there are two mics on the front of the screen, but perhaps front mic is what you'd connect to the jack on the side). I simply don't understand what all these different devices or controllers are. The volume control lets me choose between HDA Intel (Alsa Mixer), Realtek ALC269 (OSS Mixer), HDA Intel ALC269 Analog (PulseAudio Mixer), and the Sound setting menu also lets me choose just ALSA or OSS. I also have asoundconf-gtk installed, which gives me the choice between Intel and PulseAudio for the Default Sound Card. So perhaps I just haven't managed to set the right combination of things, but I've tried changing a lot, and my definite impression is that the scale is off, both for input and output. I ran the alsa check script, and my configuration is described at http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=1b8bf5bf00145a4aa0602534d50dd993bd09a234 I'm running ubuntu 9.04. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- low laptop volume with 82801l / ALC269 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/378938 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 376807] Re: ubuntu everywhere
