[Bug 379412] [NEW] openvpn server startup script broken

2009-05-22 Thread Enrico Zanolin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openvpn

Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10

openvpn:
  Installed: 2.1~rc11-1ubuntu2
  Candidate: 2.1~rc11-1ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 2.1~rc11-1ubuntu2 0
500 http://192.168.253.253 intrepid/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

As of openvpn 2.1rc9 there is a new script-security feature.

In the file /etc/init.d/openvpn there is the following piece of code to
handle it

# Handle backwards compatibility
if test -z $( grep '^[[:space:]]*script-security[[:space:]]'
$CONFIG_DIR/$NAME.conf ) ; then
script_security=--script-security 2
fi

Firstly to ensure proper backward compatibility it should set script-
security to 3 not 2 as my server using an external auth plugin would not
work with it set to 2 as passwords do not get passed in the environment
vars. Secondly, if you set script-security in the server.conf file to
try and fix the problem the startup script breaks with the following
message.

test: 278: 3: unexpected operator

Cheers.

2009-05-22 Thread Alen
im using 4.1.2982-likewise-1 on ubuntu 8.10 server
not only that it does not allow to change local password it also crashes and
its not usable at all.
ubuntu should fix the problem on 8.10 since its a bug and not a new version.

[Bug 112631] Re: [apport] package slapd failed to install/upgrade:

2009-05-22 Thread Wouter van Heyst
Removing the two stray dc=nodomain entries from the .ldif, and rerunning
dpkg --configure slapd, everything now completes. I'll sacrifice another
machine to see if I can catch where the nodomain entries are coming from
in the first place.

[Bug 379329] Re: Security flaw in openSSH prior to 5.2

2009-05-22 Thread Armindo Silva
It appears that there's no need to backport a new version of OpenSSH. As
you can see here: http://www.openssh.com/txt/cbc.adv you only need to
add this line:

Ciphers aes128-ctr,aes256-ctr,arcfour256,arcfour,aes128-cbc,aes256-cbc

to ssh_config and sshd_config and restart the daemon.
Also:
The severity is considered to be potentially HIGH due to the
32 bits of plaintext that can be recovered. However, the
likelihood of a successful attack is considered LOW.

[Bug 281188] Re: Panic or segfault in Samba

2009-05-22 Thread MMarking
I'm on Intrepid (plan to upgrade to Jaunty soon) and I have literally
thousands of these messages in my dmesg and logs after an uptime of a
few days:

[215799.967346] type=1502 audit(1243006362.717:7274):
operation=inode_permission requested_mask=rw:: denied_mask=w::
fsuid=0 name=/var/lib/samba/group_mapping.ldb pid=1027
profile=/usr/sbin/smbd

It seems I'm in the right place for this issue. Until this bug is
fixed, is there someway to supress these messages in the logs?

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 349469 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/349469

It seems as if your MySQL installation ran into a minor collision.

debconf: DbDriver config: /var/cache/debconf/config.dat is locked by
another process: Resource temporarily unavailable

If you try a reinstall it ought to work.

This issue have already been reported as bug #349469 (among others).
Hence I'm marking this report as a duplicate.

[Bug 379304] [NEW] bsh handles subclassing and static methods incorrectly

2009-05-22 Thread Matthew Flaschen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bsh

As noted at
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailaid=1781130group_id=4075atid=104075
, bsh does not call the correct method when a subclass has the same
static method signature as a superclass. For example:

class A
{
public static String foo()
{
return A;
}
}

class B extends A
{
public static String foo()
{
return B;
}
}

public class StaticInherit
{
public static void main(String[] a)
{
System.out.println(A.foo:  + A.foo());
System.out.println((new B()).foo:  + (new B()).foo());
System.out.println(B.foo:  + B.foo());
}
}

If this file is compiled with javac and run with java, it will output A,
B, B. However, if entered into Hardy bsh (and run with
StaticInherit.main(new String[]{})), it results in A,  A, A.

This bug has been fixed in beanshell2
(http://code.google.com/p/beanshell2/); see r21
(http://code.google.com/p/beanshell2/source/diff?spec=svn21old=10r=21format=unidiffpath=%2Ftrunk%2Fsrc%2Fbsh%2FReflect.java)
. It would be great to merge at least this, and it may be wise to start
using them as upstream eventually.

[Bug 379308] [NEW] Firefox 3.5: Could not find compatible GRE between version 1.9.1b5pre and 1.9.1b5pre

2009-05-22 Thread useResa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

I am using the daily built of Firefox 3.5 in Intrepid and for this I am using
the following repositories:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main

As of today's update Firefox 3.5 did not start anymore and when starting from
terminal I received the following error:
Could not find compatible GRE between version 1.9.1b5pre and 1.9.1b5pre.

Based on the earlier reported bug #353660 I assume that the issue may be again
in the xulrunner update, however I am not sure. The versions installed are:
Firefox 3.5: 3.5~b5~hg20090520r25565+nobinonly-0ubuntu1~umd1~intrepid
Xulrunner 1.9.1: 1.9.1~hg20090521r25682+nobinonly-0ubuntu1~umd1~intrepid

Let me know if more information is required

[Bug 367318] Re: in VT, screen not being saved (vcsa permission problem to blame)

2009-05-22 Thread Shentino
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: mc

  Release:  Jaunty Jackalope
  Version of MC: Current as of apr 26, 2009
  Expected:

- MC able to save and restore the shell screen
+ MC able to save and restore the subshell screen

  Actual:

  MC blanks out

- Detail:
+ To reproduce:

- When on a virtual console,
+ Log into vt 1 (/dev/tty1)
+ Start mc, then use C-o to switch to the subshell. Observe that the
screen is blanked.
+ Exit mc
+ sudo chown you:you /dev/vcsa1 # this is the workaround
+ Start mc again
+ Use C-o to switch to the subshell and notice that the subshell screen is
now properly saved and restored

- Using control-O to flip between MC and the subshell causes the screen to
- be erased.
+ User's diagnosis:

- Diagnosis:
+ For some reason /dev/vcsa* permissions aren't being properly set up when
+ a user logs in on a virtual console.

- The problem is that for some reason a vc login isn't granting the appropriate
permissions on /dev/vcs*
- Which in turn means that mc is unable to read /dev/vcsa*
-
- Kludgy workaround:
-
- I wrote a suid-root C program to grant world rwx to /dev/vcs* every time
- I log in on VC.
-
- Changing the files so that the user has read/write permission to
- /dev/vcsa* solves the problem. I suspect that mc is a victim of a bug
- elsewhere that fails to grant a console user the appropriate permissions
- /dev/vcs* upon a login.
+ I move that this be considered a bug for which mc is a victim.

[Bug 371865] Re: xorg freezes with -nvidia (same with -fglrx)

2009-05-22 Thread Šarūnas
Hi,

got my ATI back.. now, with new flgrx, the problem is gone.

as for nvidia - it is possible that the card itself is corrupted - I had
some problems later even with nv module as described in here
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-hardware-18/freeze-with-
horizontal-lines-while-loading-xorg-726693/

it was just strange to see the same problem with two different cards..

or maybe some driver parts were left ?? like xgl module from different
versions ??

Sorry for disturbing and thank you for your interest :)

[Bug 379313] [NEW] Handling NextWindow Touchscreen (multitouch)

2009-05-22 Thread Jamie Lennox
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev

Ubuntu 9.04/8.10 and probably other.

The NextWindow touch screen is used on the HP TouchSmart systems however
doesn't work out of the box on 8.10 or 9.04.

Firstly it is allocated to a synaptic touchpad driver initially which is
wrong, but can be overcome with the appropriate HAL fdi to change to
evdev.

Secondly (and this is a most likely a problem of either the hardware or
X), it reports X, Y values using ABS_RX, ABS_Z rather than the expected
ABS_X, ABS_Y. The evtouch driver will work because it accepts these as
alternatives.

Lastly, because the system is multi-touch aware it reports to the
xserver that it has buttons. This causes it to be misclassified by evdev
as a touchpad rather than a touchscreen.

The following patch fixes the problem for me but is obviously not a
general solution. This is against packaged version 1:2.1.1-1ubuntu4:

Seems like Debian already has this package in stable and testing, but with a

AFAIK, it will be synced from Debian (semi) automatically before Debian

Seems to have tracker back and working again. I could have logged out

 This bug happens to me on multiple computers in XP and Ubuntu.

 The problem goes away for a while (hours?) if you right click on an
 empty region of the web page. If I don't do that and instead try to
 right click on a link, I get the same wrong behaviour. It is never
 random per click when it is misbehaving.

We do not need anymore people to confirm this bug since we have more
than enough, this should be included in 3.0.11 IIRC since .10 was a pre
mature release to fix regressions.

 I haven't seen this problem on either XP SP3 FF 3.0 or Ubunto 8.4

Not everyone will see this bug same as any other bug not anyone sees it.

[Bug 379316] [NEW] Ettercap can't initialize iptables table `nat': Permission denied (you must be root)

2009-05-22 Thread Alex
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ettercap

When I uncomment this chain :

# if you use iptables:
   #redir_command_on = iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i %iface -p tcp --dport
%port -j REDIRECT --to-port %rport
   #redir_command_off = iptables -t nat -D PREROUTING -i %iface -p tcp --dport
%port -j REDIRECT --to-port %rport

Ettercap doesn't seem to work well.
I get this message

iptables v1.3.8: can't initialize iptables table `nat': Permission denied (you
must be root)
Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded.

I found a solution that works by changing ec_uid to equal 0 :

[privs]
ec_uid = 65534# nobody is the default
ec_gid = 65534# nobody is the default

Like this :

[privs]
ec_uid = 0# nobody is the default
ec_gid = 65534# nobody is the default

I use Ubuntu 9.04 and the ettercap package comes from the official
repository.

Thx

[Bug 379294] Re: Garbled web page

2009-05-22 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.
Many bad Firefox behaviors are in fact caused by one of the many third-party
'themes', 'extensions' and 'plugins'. These will go away with a new profile -
that is, when Firefox is restored to default settings and without any
extensions and themes. Could you please try with a new profile? You do not
need to delete your old profile to test.

They are not the same bug.
Uninstalling the extensions may not be enough since a lot of times removing

Re: [Bug 374774] Re: Menu File - Save Page As or Right Click - Save Image as don't work

2009-05-22 Thread Gianmaria Vitale
Hi Kurt,

sorry my mistake, big one.
I was going to fix the bug on the site within this week.

I backed up Firefox with FEBE (Firefox Backup Extension) and in that
profile I had set a default directory to download files from the web.
When I restored my Firefox profile that directory wasn't there and
obviously (except for me :-)) ) Firefox could not save files there;
actually I wasn't able to read any error message and that's why I
guessed it was a bug at that point.

Regards,

Gianmaria

[Bug 379323] [NEW] pavucontrol playback volume meter inaccurate

2009-05-22 Thread Peepsalot
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pavucontrol

In pavucontrol, volume meter shows 100% even when volume level is
lowered to around 90%

Steps to reproduce:
1. Generate a tone at 100% amplitude. I used audacity to create this tone. (I
can upload the test tone I used if that helps.)
2. Use any audio application to play this tone file. Set audio application's
volume to 100%
3. Open pavucontrol and view the control for this application on the playback
tab
4. While test tone plays, set the playback volume in pavucontrol for this app
to 100%, and slowly lower the volume while watching the volume meter.

Actual Results:
The volume meter stays at 100% even after volume is lowered. Only past around
90% does the volume meter start to lower, after which it rapidly drops.

Expected results:
Volume meter should not show 100% when volume setting is less than 100%

Dear Till Kappeter,

I encounter the same problem here with a network printer Kyocera FS-

one page in 20 minutes (usually 20 pages per minute). Very very slow.

I tried your alternative pdftops CUPS filter, but it did not work for
me. The computer sends the document to the printer, but it now never
prints. With the new pdftops filter, printing is not possible at all.

I needed to reinstall cups.

Thank you for your effort.

[Bug 379331] [NEW] Dies because it cannot find fetchmailconf.py

2009-05-22 Thread Uqbar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fetchmailconf

Whenever started the program dies saying:

/usr/bin/python: can't open file '/usr/lib/python2.6/site-
packages/fetchmailconf.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory

The file is actually stored in
/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/fetchmailconf.py so I have worked the bug
around by creating a symlink of
 /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages as /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages .
I would expect the program to run without any workaround.

[Bug 301353] Re: HP Pavilion dv5: ATA exception on resume from suspend

2009-05-22 Thread RetributionLSR
Well, I sure can understand one's frustration. But I'm pretty darn sure
this is NOT an HP BIOS issue. But rather something to do with the s2ram
commands... I've been far to busy to fiddle with this issue as of yet.
But I'm sure it's is like the million other things that need slight
adjustments to work properly within ubuntu supporting your current
hardware or add-ons. I'm thinking of my recent GPS add-on that needed
slight tweaking(gpsd strings) and most recent Alsa drivers for my laptop
sound. Nevertheless this can be fixed.

So I've already stated previously in this current thread; I OWN an HP
DV5-1250us laptop. which is similar or LKQ to most of the other systems
that are currently in question (DV5 series).

Now I know for a fact these laptops will suspend and RESUME 100% no
problems, I've seen it with my own damn eyes. Now as soon as proprietary
drivers are installed. All goes to hell in a hand basket. So... needless
to say this is simply not an HP BIOS issue.

Now this might not solve the problem, but we need to play around a bit
before jumping to conclusions. I know this is a bug, doesn't mean it is
a hardware issue.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=471855

If more folks that have time on their hands played around, we could have
a fix already. Complaining to HP regarding an issue like this, is like
trying to paddle up river with tennis rackets. Good Luck man!

s2ram, folks lets play a bit and find the right commands... Or wait
till I do it for you...

[Bug 61634] Re: Ubuntu Forums and Ubuntu Wiki Search

2009-05-22 Thread John Vivirito
This bug is not really triaged since other than a patch noone has discussd this
as per:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.0/+bug/61634/comments/5

I am against adding this to default install.
Here are 2 things i have thought about.
We can add this as an option in ubufox or someone writes an extension for it
and either posts it @ addons.mozilla
Or
package it for Ubuntu.
Adding more default things to firefox is not a suitable way to go. the code
is already bloated and that is what ubufox was intended to do.

[Bug 361991] Re: Sent items are not getting created / Outbox not flushed

2009-05-22 Thread flashydave
I have done a bit more work on this and it appears that the To: field in the
email is left blank because a call to exhange_mapi_util_modify_recpients fails
returning with MAPI_E_CALL_FAILED(0x80004005) and submitting the message
ecInvalidRecips(0x467).
This appears to be only a problem for recipients within the email domain - not
external recipients. That seems to work.

I have tried describing the local recipients email in different ways
(fully qualified, local name, excluding the domain suffix etc) but with
no success.

I havent been able to get my Global Address List working (setting the
correct source appears to do nothing) so this may have some influence on
the problem.

Perhaps you can check if you are seeing the same symptoms.
