[Bug 416000] [NEW] loosing %Title info = cups-pdf save as _stdin_

2009-08-19 Thread Jean Christophe André
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

1) Ubuntu release: Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty)
2) Package version: cups 1.3.9-17ubuntu3.2
3) What did I expect: PDF generated from printing through cups-pdf saved using
the document title (from %Title in Postscript) as the file name ; it was
working this way in Intrepid.
4) What happened instead: file are always saved as _stdin_ (literally, and so
overriding each other, but there is a workaround for this) whatever the
document title is.

cups-pdf use the document %Title information to generate the filename
for the PDF to be saved. I discovered that the document entering cups-
pdf processing was lacking this information, while it was available in
the original Postscript document. So it's not a cups-pdf problem but a
CUPS document processing instead.

After investigating more, by putting cupsd LogLevel to debug, I also discovered
that CUPS does process documents aimed at cups-pdf this way:
[Job 380] envp[21]=CONTENT_TYPE=application/postscript
[Job 380] envp[24]=FINAL_CONTENT_TYPE=application/vnd.cups-postscript
[Job 380] Started filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstopdf (PID 4490)
[Job 380] Started filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftopdf (PID 4492)
[Job 380] Started filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/cpdftocps (PID 4497)
[Job 380] Started backend /usr/lib/cups/backend/cups-pdf (PID 4503)

If I understand correctly, it first cleanup the Postscript code, then
transform it into PDF (?), cleanup the PDF code and transform it back
into Postscript before passing it to cups-pdf. I found that the pstopdf
filter kept the %Title intact but the pdftopdf filter made it lost.

IMHO, but I don't know printing processing well, this is a just a wrong
path for going to cups-pdf. CUPS should just pass it to cups-pdf, after
the minimal Postscript code cleanup and that's it. So this is the
solution I choose to apply at my office: I moved away the file
/etc/cups/pstopdf.convs (and restarted the cups service) so CUPS
knew no more how to convert from Postscript to PDF. This made my day:
PDF printing was saved using their document title again.

So I declare this as a bug and suggest to take some action (may be mine,
may be a better way) to allow other Ubuntu users to get it right without
having to put their hand in it... ;-)

[Bug 416001] [NEW] Notification and similar dialogs are displaying corrupted after update on Karmic

2009-08-19 Thread Jamal Fanaian
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Ubuntu release: Karmic 9.10
xserver-xorg-video-ati version installed:
1:6.12.99+git20090629.f39cafc5-0ubuntu6

After updating last night, notification dialogs are showing up corrupted
(white with lines around it). The same is happening for other dialogs
such as the brightness level notice that is displayed when the laptop is
unplugged. Gnome-do also appears the same way.

Also, when logging in the entire screen will go white with lines for a
few seconds and then go back to showing the orange background from the
login screen.

I have attached some screenshots of the issue.

Why set this to invalid, please? This is a valid bug, the rhythmbox
volume slider messes up with the system volume and a lot things have

e.g. totem also messes with the system volume. If you set this to
invalid, please say why or hint to some other package against which this
has to be filed.

[Bug 127315] Re: F-Spot puts photos in Photos folder not Pictures folder

2009-08-19 Thread rugby471
On the upstream bug report, many of the people were saying they wanted
it in Pictures/Photos as users may want to keep backgrounds etc.
separate, in all the patches at that upstream bug, the directory was
Pictures/Photos They also said the Pictures/F-Spot was definitely not
what they wanted.

Another reason to do it Pictures/Photos is that F-Spot starts putting
folders like 2009 etc. in the folder, which would not mix well with
things such as backgrounds that cannot have a date. Also if you look at
F-Spot's tag line, 'photo management software' you can see what it is
designed for.

I appreciate the concern you have, however this definitely seems the way
upstream also wants to go.

[Bug 389040] Re: Realtek ALC272 not working in 9.04 but its working under 8.10

2009-08-19 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Thanks Antonio, sounds promising. Can you also test that :

1) The speakers muste when the headphones are plugged in (and sound
indeed comes out of the headphones). If not, I'll likely need to have
you also test the following patch:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/git?p=ubuntu/ubuntu-hardy-
lum.git;a=commitdiff;h=d47775d68efa5d80552839231fcb4f54dc254c08

2) The microphone works. And again, if it doesn't we'll likely need the
following:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/git?p=ubuntu/ubuntu-hardy-
lum.git;a=commitdiff;h=cc28eee26d33fac60d598fb2269e673ba83570e9

[Bug 245809] Re: [hardy] Unlock button not in dialog

2009-08-19 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
I believe the bug you describe should be partially fixed in the upcoming
release 2.27.3, soon available in Karmic. Now, users should be greyed
out if one cannot edit them, and modifying your own account information
will ask you to authenticate when pressing OK.

Could you try that version, now or when it is released (october)?
Thanks!

[Bug 404767] Re: gnome-system-tools: mnemonic/accelerator shows as underscore instead of underline, and does not register with keyboard

2009-08-19 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
So your fix is the right one, but in the meantime we've moved to
PolicyKit1, which allows us to replace that button with their stock
unlock button. So that will be fixed in the upcoming 2.27.3, and you'll
be able to drop the patch (which won't apply anyway). Thanks for your
interest!

[Bug 413815] Re: ruby 1.9.1 should be configured with --program-suffix=1.9.1 if installed as ruby1.9.1

2009-08-19 Thread gleeo
No, I don't see why you would do that. The best solution would be to
build with ./configure --program-suffix=*extension you tend to build
with with, for example, 1.9.1* This is the best solution, let ruby do
the work for you, rather then bypass what ruby has setup for you and try
to hack on it yourself. And ./configure knows how rbconfig.rb should
look better then either of us i would presume :-)

[Bug 416017] [NEW] Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 4 hangs with black screens on fresh install

2009-08-19 Thread David Favor
Public bug reported:

This system installs, boots, runs 9.04 with no problems.

Also doing an 'update-manager -d' updates to 9.10 and all is well.

It's just fresh installs which appear broken.

http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic/alpha-4/karmic-
desktop-i386.iso is the ISO file I used.

I used the same process I used with 9.04 to burn this on a CD.

9.10 system starts to boot, produces no messages, then hangs with a
black screen.

I have an additional disk in this system I can install 9.10 again and
I'm happy to work this problem through, if there's someone who can
assist me.

Thanks.

I don't have Sun's Virtualbox package installed.

I've worked out that mine was caused by not having linux-headers
installed. Installing them fixed it. Does this need to be added to the
dependencies?

[Bug 416019] [NEW] [ubuntu karmic] mythtv frontend can't access backend

2009-08-19 Thread ullix
Public bug reported:

mythtv frontend running on karmic on a netbook can no longer access
mythtv backend running on intrepid. it complains about the database on
the host being 28 (!) versions behind, see attached screenshot.

but there aren't any updates for the host available, so mythtv is broken
on karmic. (the host combined with other frontends is working well)

[Bug 350306] Re: X crash, [drm:i915_get_vblank_counter] *ERROR* trying to get vblank count for disabled pipe 0

2009-08-19 Thread Daniel DeGroff
I can't say for sure this is what is causing my X to hang.. but I do see
the same error.

degr...@degrofft61:~$ dmesg|grep drm

If this is what is causing my X to hang.. it seems to happen when I launch
something from the panel. When I click on an icon to launch an application, I
get an orange'ish line vertically up and down the whole left side of my screen
(external screen). When it hangs, that line often stays there.. and I have to
switch to a console and kill X to get my computer back.

It is getting bad.. I lose everything I was doing.. and it happens quite
often.

I'm on Ubuntu 9.04
Linux degrofft61 2.6.28-15-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jul 29 08:54:56 UTC 2009
i686 GNU/Linux
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.7.1-0ubuntu1~xup~1

It also seems to happen more often than note when I launch Lotus Notes,
Rational Application Developer, or tn5250j. I don't know that is
related.. but that is when I seem to hit this.

I don't use compiz,

[Bug 415866] Re: kupfer should set working dir

2009-08-19 Thread Luca Falavigna
I tried and it seems working correctly here.

Could you please try to add the following snippet in
/usr/share/kupfer/kupfer/__init__.py before if __name__ == '__main__':
and see what /tmp/kupfer_test contains?

file = os.open('/tmp/kupfer_test', os.O_WRONLY | os.O_CREAT | os.O_TRUNC)
os.write(file, os.getenv('PWD'))
os.close(file)
