Not replacing deleted config file /etc/nagios3/conf.d/host-gateway_nagios3.cfg include file /etc/nagios3/apache2.conf does not exist! This looks very much as the result of /etc/nagios3 having been manually deleted. Purge nagios3-common and nagios3. After that they should be fine to install again. I can reproduce this bug in MySQL 5.0.24a-9ubuntu2.4 (edgy) It appears to have been fixed in MySQL 5.0.38-0ubuntu1 (feisty) Do note that even affected MySQL versions can detect/handle ERROR 1436. You have been subscribed to a public bug: If I use nautilus to browse a smb share from a samba server, this works fine. If I try to browse a share on a NetApp server, this fails with the error: Could not display smb://netapp/home/ft. Error: Failed to mount Windows share Please select another viewer and try again. However, browsing the same share using Konqueror gives correct behaviour in that I can browse file, see preview and copy/paste. However, I am not able to open the files using with some of the application, e.g. Xarchive and Kwrite works, but not F-Spot, Gimp, Eye of Gnome. Openoffice asks for an extra login, but works thereafter... Hello I've been having similar problems and looking for a long time for a solution. Finally seems to have solved my problem. I do not understand how different installed packages decide to modify /etc/resolv.conf and sometimes without consideration to each other. In my case, I use NetworkManager to manage my connections. Simply put, the solution was to remove the package resolvconf and use networkmanager for wired, wireless and vpn. If you are using vpn connections, configure it through network manager (nm) and not through some other utility. There's a vpn for networkManager you need to install first. If you don't use the nm-vpn like I was, for a few minutes you have /etc/resolv.conf set up properly with the vpn dns , search and domain settings but sooner or later nm will overwrite your files and your vpn will be broken. So, using vpnc from the command line or other vpn tools won't do. I hope this helps others. As a suggestion for Ubuntu packagers, when installing networkManager, resolvconf should be one of those conflicting packages. Of course, there's probably a better solution. The netbook connects to the internet using a USB 3G device. I am testing the setup by going to www.whatismyip.com. Therefore traffic is not being routed through the VPN. Remember, there is a clear SERVER bug which has been fixed for quite a while, but only clients which support BOTH unix extensions and dfs would see it (which is why the two suggested workarounds - nodfs or nounix on mount could work around it). I actually tried that, but the recompiling/configuring ImageMagick did not work for me: I couldn't get it to compile with the png/jpeg options. I tried several options, I even tried to compile more recent releases from the respective software developers, but I could not get it to compile satisfactory, with the enabled png/jpeg support. (I even tried editing the makefiles... but that was more out of disparation, then anything else.) I also tried several different approaches in compiling cImg. (I was lucky to find a program which more or less did what I had programmed, and compiled/used to run using the repositories of ubuntu 8.10/8.04) I think it is an ImageMagick-development problem because, it did compile and run using the repositories of ubuntu 8.10. OS is Ubuntu 9.04 These pull-down windows normally offer a choice between 10% and 100% in 10% increments. The contents, after a few minutes using Fire-Fox, will not show, but one can use arrow keys, or number-pad keys. There are approximately half-dozen of these windows. They will work shortly after starting OGame, then will stop. Rebooting the desktop works again for a few minutes. It also seems to help by selecting Help Report a Problem. MOST IRRITATING! Its Ubuntu 8.10 and this problem persists. Only it seems to be worse - if a PS2 mouse is plugged in (runtime or before powering on the laptop), it seems that the synaptics module is unloaded and replaced (?) by the psmouse. This disables the touchpad vertical/horizontal scrolling. The problem is that using this setup sometimes (5-10 minutes interval, not fix, maybe tied to mouse usage or something) the mouse pointer goes haywire, jumping on the screen, sometimes mouse clicks and scrolling occurs - for 1 sec or so, then it comes back to normal. Thats disrupting when u are working on something. Dmesg shows errors about the mouse loosing syncronisation. And the worst part is that sometimes even the X server restarts. Absolutely. I have been thinking I couldn't connect at all to my windows pc, but after a few months I discovered I can through command line. I also spoke to someone who is pretty much anti-windows, but he still needs windows compatibility for his job as software installer on Windows machines. He told me he didn't like Linux very much as a replacement, because 'it is hard to be compatible with Windows'. This is absolutely a showstopper, as many people have Windows pc's around in their network that need to be connected, even if they are not prepared to use the command line. Some just don't want to spend their time to learn using the command line, and just want it to work out of the box with a simple GUI. This is - if I'm right - one of the major goals of Ubuntu, and therefore this bug should be solved. Hello I've been having similar problems and looking for a long time for a solution. Finally seems to have solved my problem. I do not understand how different installed packages decide to modify /etc/resolv.conf and sometimes without consideration to each other. In my case, I use NetworkManager to manage my connections. Simply put, the solution was to remove the package resolvconf and use networkmanager for wired, wireless and vpn. If you are using vpn connections, configure it through network manager (nm) and not through some other utility. There's a vpn for networkManager you need to install first. If you don't use the nm-vpn like I was, for a few minutes you have /etc/resolv.conf set up properly with the vpn dns , search and domain settings but sooner or later nm will overwrite your files and your vpn will be broken. So, using vpnc from the command line or other vpn tools won't do. I hope this helps others. As a suggestion for Ubuntu packagers, when installing networkManager, resolvconf should be one of those conflicting packages. Of course, there's probably a better solution. I tried filing this with them and they told me that, since my thunderbird, lightning, and Google Provider extensions were all installed from the Ubuntu respository, I should file it here. This is exactly one of the reasons why the open-source model breaks down for the average user. Each party is pointing their finger at the other, and no one is under any real obligation to fix a problem that has been confirmed by multiple users. And this comes a full 2.5 months after I originally filed this case! I certainly appreciate the time and effort everyone who works on these projects contributes to them, but when so many of the ones I try to use on a daily basis have bugs with no fix in site, well, it's hard to not get discouraged and go back to using commercial software. At any rate, thanks for looking at this. [Bug 417776] [NEW] Huawei E220 is not working in 2.6.28-15-generic (after upgrade)
Public bug reported: I have a Huawei E220 USB modem. It worked in 2.6.28-11-generic (My First Jaunty Kernel on fresh Installation) but not working in 2.6.28-15-generic (after update). It is detected on both kernels, but even i can connect on both kernels, there are several problems on 2.6.28-15: 1. Even though it can connect, i cannot access or connect to anything. The modem keeps stalled, as if there is no connection at all. 2. After the connection has been established, I cannot disconnect it from network manager. So, i have to unplug it instantly from the USB port if I want to disconnect from the net. Note 1 : It works prefectly from my Windows Vista Home Premium on the same system. The after the recent wiki updates, it states that the apps will be shown even when they are not running ,as a launcher. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MessagingMenu#API [this wiki is constantly updated and the applet is still in heavy development] I guess, we'll have to wait for feature freeze to know exactly what its full functionality is. There is another problem ,If the menu is going to be combined as a launcher, the evolution icon from the top panel needs to be removed , since will become unnecessary duplication. @Noel J Bergman, I agree it is *redundant to show the icon of an envelope for all messaging* ! So i had contacted the devs and design team regarding this and they were *initially* interested in a different icon and were open to suggestions for a monochrome icon of an Inbox . I had submitted a monochrome icon for the indicator applet,But the person I was in contact with was replaced from the project. I then tried to contact the next design team member but did not receive a response from him. [but in his defense,the design team is being overruled in this design] *Attaching the icon i had submitted* [.png version],since you too feel the same way about the envelope, Just add it to the ~./icons/IconThemeName/24x24/status folder. The icon will take effect once you re-select your icon theme. But, I also notice that there is one new icon for the indicator applet , I do not know what this new icon is for ,hence I havent designed it yet.[once the functions are clear I'd be making the icon. The staff group is a system standard group which is created when your system is installed. If you have a regular Ubuntu installation and something removed that group, then that something is the component with a bug, rather than Emacs. Granted, emacs could be made more robust against this error. In the transcript of duplicate bug #397116 you can see that cups also emits this error, but apparently treats it as non-fatal. But one could also argue that the culprit which removed a system group needs to be fixed, and that emacs is to be commended for highlighting this problem.
