[Bug 211631] Re: Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown)

2009-10-04 Thread Tom Chiverton
This still occurs in the 9.10 beta. In fact, the upgrade has disabled
the fix I'd put in, based on this bug, under 9.04.

As it's such a simple fix, lets do this for 9.10 final shall we ?

[Bug 436041] Re: Access Denied but TSC confirms it should not be.

2009-10-04 Thread DrC
Sorry for the delay - day job intruded.

The server event log has nothing near the time in question, and nothing I can
relate to Access Denied.
No problem with /dev/sda size - except my geriatric amnesia.
To avoid red herrings, my /etc/hosts file did not have the server name; name
resolution must have been used.
Debug level 3 set in client smb.conf but nothing found in /var/log/samba.

I have restarted the client (sadly following an Ubuntu update that
included a Samba security fix) and will recheck the backup and
system logs when I go back in.

[Bug 442125] [NEW] Bacula daemons are not started during system boot

2009-10-04 Thread Lupe Christoph
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bacula

Since my upgrade to Karmic Beta, the bacula daemons are not started
automatically during system boot. I can start them when the system is
running with no problems.

Since I don't understand upstart yet, I would like to ask for advice how
one debugs upstart problems. For now I will assume that something in the
bacula init scripts prevents them from running correctly.

2009-10-04 Thread yannickm
Public bug reported:

It looks like the new openldap installation has it's default
configuration so bare-bone that is COMPLETELY UNUSABLE out-of-the-box.

The default backend dbd aren't even loaded, no schemas beyond core, no
database.

Now, add to that the fact that cn=config is a real pain in the ass to
use, the end result is that the usability of the package has been
greatly reduced (understatement of the year)

Please, allow the users to choose through debconf is they do want a
barebone configuration, or something that actually works after
installing.

Please keep in mind openldap is not only used by system administrators
(whom, yes you'd expect would need to learn how to mess around with
cn=config), but also by others, like developers for example, who need a
work LDAP server, without losing hours getting it up and running.

2009-10-04 Thread Andreas Olsson
For a configuration files (among others) to be recreated at reinstall
the original package need to be purge. The file /etc/mysql/my.cnf belong
to the package mysql-common. Hence you want to purge the package mysql-
common and then reinstall.

Does that help?

[Bug 442125] Re: Bacula daemons are not started during system boot

2009-10-04 Thread Lupe Christoph
1. Is this reproducible?
Yes, it is.

2. If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug? Be as
detailed as possible.
Well, this machine has been running Ubuntu and bacula for quite some time, so I
can't be really sure that I'm not missing something.

I can tell you that I deinstalled bacula-director-mysql bacula-director-
common bacula-fd bacula-sd bacula-sd-mysql and removed the init scripts.
Dunno why these were not deinstalled. They are considered part of the
configuration, and I did not use --purge.

Then, I installed those packages again and rebooted. No bacula process
was started, but I must admit that bacula-sd and bacula-fd had no chance
of being started because the installation did not install the start
scripts. Probably again because I did not use --purge when I removed the
packages.

I'm sorry that I don't have the time to experiment some more. And I
don't want to lose my bacula configuration.

[Bug 442598] [NEW] 'qemu-img snapshot' crashed, corrupting disk image

2009-10-04 Thread Nelson Elhage
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

I have a 10GB qcow2 disk image that I use for testing various things on
a clean Jaunty install. I created it with the qemu package from Jaunty,
and it has been working fine for some time.

I recently upgraded to Karmic, and, after doing some work in the VM,
attempting to snapshot the VM using 'qemu-img snapshot -c test
jaunty.qcow2'. After a minute or so, qemu-img had grown to consume
nearly all of my 2GB of RAM, and then, after another minute or two,
terminated with a segfault. After this crash, all attempts to use the
disk image, either via qemu-img or booting it in qemu or kvm have
resulted in a segfault.

I can generate core files of the later crashes, but since qemu uses most
of my RAM before crashing, they are quite large (1.5+GB). Please let me
know if extracting backtraces or other information would be useful, or
if I should post a core image somewhere anyways for a developer to
attempt to download it.

2009-10-04 Thread PJO
I've provided a very comprehensive report which should illustrate, if
you read it, where and why the documentation is confusing and I've
suggested that this be looked at.

It seems a bit odd to just close the bug without even a single request

What exactly is not clear (or missing) about the report I provided?

And you can repeat above after unmounting the share with a slight change i.e.

You may also want to issue command

Worth noting that libpam-mount does not have a problem. Its SU that has
the issue and the way it calls the umount as a user but mounts as root.

[Bug 253268] Re: php5-cgi not working with suphp in Hardy

2009-10-04 Thread Scott Nightingale
sorry if I'm a bit noob here but I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 LTS AMD64 so I
can't use your i386 packages. Has anyone packed this up for 64bit or is
there some other suggested method for resolving this bug? I tried the
suggested method of changing application/x-httpd-php to application/x
-httpd-suphp but continued to receive a 500 server error.

Cheers,

Scott

[Bug 441954] [NEW] https access broken (with optional client certs)

2009-10-04 Thread Andreas Jellinghaus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: subversion

I tested karmic and the https access to svn servers configured with optional
client
certificates (so you can for example read without authenticating yourself, but
write access needs authentication with a client certificate) is broken.

steps to reproduce:
svn co http://www.opensc-project.org/svn/test/trunk http
- works
svn co https://www.opensc-project.org/svn/test/trunk https
- works on 8.04, broken on all releases since, including karmic

source of the problem: gnutls doesn't implement SSL properly.
openssl did, so the old 8.04 packages linked against openssl
work fine.

yes, I know, the problem has been reported several times for 8.10 and 9.04,
but nothing ever happened. so I tested again for 9.10/karmic and to get your
attention to this problem, so maybe it will be fixed this time before release,
here is a new bug report. (see 366928 for older bug reports)

[Bug 441956] [NEW] Broken dependancies for gcc-4.2 in hardy

[Bug 438536] Re: Notifications should show up closer to top right

2009-10-04 Thread mac_v
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut
should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu 9.10 install,
that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't
be addressed as part of this project.

-This is a design decision. Not a papercut. One of the reasons , it was done,
was due to complaints of the bubbles blocking the firefox search bar. This way
the bubbles that are not triggered by the user dont cover that area.
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read

[Bug 438065] Re: Karmic: DVDs cannot be mounted

2009-10-04 Thread Daniel T Chen
Okay, there's definitely a linux task on hand. The current Karmic kernel
(2.6.31-11.38) will effect DVD mount upon insertion on my hardware, but
the hardware fails to play said DVDs. The easiest way to reproduce this
for me is with Totem, upon which I receive:

[Bug 441960] [NEW] FTBFS in karmic, because libgail has been split back from libgtk

2009-10-04 Thread fabrice_sp
Public bug reported:

Hi,

This package FTBFS with the following error:
checking for GAILUTIL... no
configure: error:
*** gail is needed for accessibility. Either install gail or turn off
*** accessibility support using the --disable-accessibility option.
make: *** [configure-stamp] Error 1
dpkg-buildpackage: error: debian/rules build gave error exit status 2

This is because we dropped in Ubuntu the dependency on libgail-dev, as
libgail was included in libgtk2. This is not the case anymore, so the
dependency on libgail-dev should be restored.

[Bug 441962] [NEW] zenmap: inconsistency between suggested package and method used for su-to-root/gksu

2009-10-04 Thread Dan Kortschak
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nmap

Menu launch of zenmap under zfce4 fails when suggested packages are
installed due to inconsistency between suggestions and method for
gaining root: package suggests 'gksu', menu entry tries su-to-root

installation, starting zenmap as su root from the menu fails to work.

[Bug 441946] Re: unable to read iso filesystem correctly

2009-10-04 Thread Mike
Thank you for reporting this bug. We need some more details:

- Can you read other DVD disks? or other types of files (e.g. text files)?
- Try burning those same images on a DVD from inside of Ubuntu (using Brasero
Disk Burner for example) and see if this problem is still present
(alternatively, make an ISO image of those images).

Till the bug is fixed, you could rather use gpg -c filename or zip
protect your doc, or export as pdf and then protect it.
