Re: [Bug 456123] Re: Karmic: cannot compile acerhk-source. No rule to make target kernel/bounds.c.

2009-10-21 Thread jmcervera
Thanks moma

But I have no luck, and everything seems OK.

The module acerhk.ko is copied to the directory /lib/modules/2.6.31.4/extra/.
Verified.

And I have run sudo depmod -a . I don't know what it does, because this
makes no feedback in my terminal prompt.

But when I try to load the module with modprobe:
sudo /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install acerhk force_series=6805 autowlan=1
I get the message FATAL: Module acerhk not found

2009/10/20 moma osm...@online.no

 Run the make install as
 $ sudo make install.

The driver/module name is acerhk.ko, and sudo make install will copy it
from compilation directory to /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/extra/.
Check if you find it there.
 $ ls -l /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/extra/

 You must also run
 $ sudo depmod -a
 afterwards.

BTW: It would be great if the Ubuntu's acerhk-source package compiled
without errors so we could use it instead of various hacks. Notice that
acerhk-source puts the source into /usr/src/ directory.

Status in “acerhk” package in Ubuntu: New

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: acerhk-source

 Hello,

I have Fujitsu Siemens AMILO laptop and need desperately to compile the
acerhk-source module. It is vital for activation of WLAN in this laptop
 model.

This posting has more background about this:
 http://newyork.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1294262

So I try to compile the acerhk-source modle, but it fails with error
message No rule to make target `kernel/bounds.c', needed by
 `kernel/bounds.s'.

 I do this:
 $ sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r)

 $ sudo apt-get install acerhk-source

It will install the source tar-balls in the /usr/src/ director.
 Let's unpack them.

 $ cd /usr/src

 $ sudo tar -xvjf acerhk.tar.bz2

 Compile the acerhk source
 $ cd modules/acerhk

 $ sudo make

make[2]: *** No rule to make target `kernel/bounds.c', needed by
 `kernel/bounds.s'. Stop.
 make[1]: *** [prepare0] Error 2

 Please help.

[Bug 452518] Re: table, numbering and image error when saving .doc file

2009-10-21 Thread O. Sinclair

To comment on this (the original problem with tables etc): a temporary solution
is to change the option under Openoffice.org General to use Openoffice.org
dialogs. That way you avoid the problem until the fix has been released

Okay, this has shown up twice in Karmic unfortunately. Attached is the

If you are affected by it now, edit the file

right before the import wx, wx.aui line.

[Bug 457000] [NEW] a specific JPG causes Postr to use lots of memory

2009-10-21 Thread Pete Boyd
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postr

Postr 0.12.3-1ubuntu2
Ubuntu 9.10 beta

I have occasionally found JPG files that, when added to Postr (0.12.2
and 0.12.3), cause it to consume 500MB RAM and for all-intents-and-
purposes hang (though it might eventually become usable again if left,
I've never tried).

The JPG file never appears in the queue and Postr becomes unresponsive.

The specific JPG I have attached was created from an Olympus E-420 .ORF

[Bug 442854] Re: Daily cron fails

2009-10-21 Thread Lars Wirzenius
I tried this:

l...@gytha$ sudo /usr/sbin/logrotate /etc/logrotate.conf
[sudo] password for liw:
error: error accessing /var/log/couchdb/0.10.0: Tiedostoa tai hakemistoa ei ole
error: couchdb:1 glob failed for /var/log/couchdb/0.10.0/*.log
error: found error in /var/log/couchdb/0.10.0/*.log , skipping

Then I change the glob according to my previous message and re-ran:

l...@gytha$ sudo vi /etc/logrotate.d/couchdb
l...@gytha$ sudo /usr/sbin/logrotate /etc/logrotate.conf
l...@gytha$

So the glob really would seem to fix the problem.

[Bug 384833] Re: After locale change, default folders duplicate, crash when changing settings

2009-10-21 Thread Fionn

The problem disappered with the latest Evolution version in Jaunty. The
duplicate folder disappeared. There still is another problem as now the default
Persönlichl Adress book is no longer duplicate and can be renamed. But after
a restart of evolution the name flips back to the default name Persönlich
(aka Personal). But I guess that is another bug to be reported elsewhere.

2009-10-21 Thread Kwinz
I can confirm this.

I fixed this for myself a long time ago by simply adding -X to the pidof
command in laptop-mode-tools/modules/battery-level-polling.
Yesterday I did an aptitude safe-upgrade and the file was overwritten with the
buggy version without the -X switch again.

~/ aptitude show laptop-mode-tools

[Bug 457001] [NEW] Wrong translation on galician (gl_ES) to the app name

2009-10-21 Thread Francisco Diéguez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

Galcian translation (gl_ES) of software-center has a mistake on app
name.

The name appears as Centro de software deUbuntu where the correct is
Centro de control de Ubuntu... note the space between de and
Ubuntu.

Yesterday the package was updated but the same string continues there. I
saw at launchpad translations and the string is fixed, I understand that
tomorrow is the final day to commit translations but I'm a bit worried
about if this will be fixed and included at the final release.

I have tried to test it with 9.10 Beta Live CD. Totem does not have a

At the moment I do not want to install 9.10 Beta.

[Bug 428435] Re: luks encrypted partition not detected or mounted automatically

2009-10-21 Thread Steve Langasek
If we accept upstream's position that blkid shouldn't pick one fs id
over the other (which I disagree with - this is a case where we clearly
know which of the UUIDs is the correct one, which is why we're talking
about autocleaning the superblock on upgrades, so why don't we just fix
blkid to DTRT instead of adding another layer to work around blkid's
behavior after the fact?), then AFAICS cryptsetup is still not the right
package to fix this, because in an ideal world the cryptsetup
initscripts and upstart jobs will all go away in favor of udev rules,
and then there's nothing to trigger cryptsetup's cleaning in the first
place /because/ of this bug. I think this bug belongs to udev.

The same things can be done about drbd8-utils ( /etc/rc2.d/S70drbd )

However the update-rc.d script about ocfs2 and o2cb raise some warning

Ex:

[Bug 428435] Re: luks encrypted partition not detected or mounted automatically

2009-10-21 Thread Antti Kaijanmäki
Steve: I must be missing something here.. how do we know which UUIDs is
the correct one? Especially with removable media?

And yes, you could use the uuid parameter from root boot option and
patch blkid to force read the uuid's from every type of signature it
founds and then guess the right type by matching the uuid's and...

Blkid is doing the right thing. It clearly indicates that there are
multiple signatures and refuses to do any guess work. The fact that we
are in this situation because of buggy cryptosetup is unfortunate (same
will happen with any mkfs which does not clear the superblock).

Now we just have to deal with the defected superblocks out there and in
my opinion patching and changing working software that's doing what it
suppose to do just to deal with buggy legacy is not the way to go. There
are situations where that most probably goes wrong as we guess wrong and
trash users data (how about activating a new swap partition which in
fact is encrypted luks partition).

We can clearly detect the situation and we can inform the users about it
and we can help them fix it for good. Users know which signature is the
correct one. Let's leave the decision to the user, but give all the
information and help we can to make it a correct one.

this bug is not about issues that might appear if you manually set IP6 to
Automatic. If you have issues with IP6 Automatic setup, then file a new
bug about that.

This bug is _solely_ about NM using Automatic rather than Ignore for IP6
after upgrade - without the user ever touching the IP6 settings at all.

[Bug 457018] [NEW] apt-get crashed during install of automake and autoconf

2009-10-21 Thread Ton Kersten
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: autoconf

When installing autoconf and automake, the installation procedure crashed with:
It concerns autoconf 2.64

Ubuntu 9.10 beta

Setting up autoconf (2.64-1ubuntu1) ...
install-info: No dir file specified; try --help for more information.
dpkg: error processing autoconf (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of automake:
automake depends on autoconf (= 2.60); however:
Package autoconf is not configured yet.
dpkg: error processing automake (--configure):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
No apport report written because the error message indicates its a followup
error from a previous failure.
  Errors were encountered while processing:
 autoconf
 automake

This is not the first time an install crashed.

Seems the packages are still a little buggy for the 9.10 release

[Bug 428435] Re: luks encrypted partition not detected or mounted automatically

2009-10-21 Thread Martin Pitt
We discussed that in #ubuntu-release. Given how close karmic's release
is, we think this is a viable strategy:

 (1) For karmic, patch blkid to prefer luks over ext*

Rationale: This has been the behaviour for years, and worked well.
We also know that creating a luks volume did not properly clean up
traces from a previous ext file system, while we know that creating an
ext file system over a luks file system worked properly. (I'll verify
that again, though)

Reopening an util-linux task for that.

 (2) For Lucid, discuss a proper migration strategy to clean up
superblocks on upgrades. This isn't release critical for Karmic any more
then.

Keeping non-karmic cryptsetup task for that.

[Bug 417842] Re: WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.31/kernel/power/suspend_test.c:52 suspend_test_finish+0x7c/0x80()

2009-10-21 Thread John Markus Bjørndalen
Same error message after resume from suspend to ram.

Laptop: Dell Latitude D820, Nvidia, amd64 kernel.

The laptop was docked at the docking station, with an external 1920x1200
screen attached (extended desktop setup with a total resolution of
3840x1200).

lspci output for the card:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G72M [Quadro NVS
110M/GeForce Go 7300] (rev a1)

I can't say that I've noticed anything misbehaving though.

Prompted by the character of the fix, I found an i386 machine to check
on - as you might expect, the bug is not present there - only on amd64
etc. where int is a different size than size_t.
