Re: [Bug 456123] Re: Karmic: cannot compile acerhk-source. No rule to make target kernel/bounds.c.
Thanks moma But I have no luck, and everything seems OK. The module acerhk.ko is copied to the directory /lib/modules/2.6.31.4/extra/. Verified. And I have run sudo depmod -a . I don't know what it does, because this makes no feedback in my terminal prompt. But when I try to load the module with modprobe: sudo /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install acerhk force_series=6805 autowlan=1 I get the message FATAL: Module acerhk not found 2009/10/20 moma osm...@online.no Run the make install as $ sudo make install. The driver/module name is acerhk.ko, and sudo make install will copy it from compilation directory to /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/extra/. Check if you find it there. $ ls -l /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/extra/ You must also run $ sudo depmod -a afterwards. BTW: It would be great if the Ubuntu's acerhk-source package compiled without errors so we could use it instead of various hacks. Notice that acerhk-source puts the source into /usr/src/ directory. -- Karmic: cannot compile acerhk-source. I can confirm this. I fixed this for myself a long time ago by simply adding -X to the pidof command in laptop-mode-tools/modules/battery-level-polling. [Bug 428435] Re: luks encrypted partition not detected or mounted automatically
If we accept upstream's position that blkid shouldn't pick one fs id over the other (which I disagree with - this is a case where we clearly know which of the UUIDs is the correct one, which is why we're talking about autocleaning the superblock on upgrades, so why don't we just fix blkid to DTRT instead of adding another layer to work around blkid's behavior after the fact?), then AFAICS cryptsetup is still not the right package to fix this, because in an ideal world the cryptsetup initscripts and upstart jobs will all go away in favor of udev rules, and then there's nothing to trigger cryptsetup's cleaning in the first place /because/ of this bug. [Bug 428435] Re: luks encrypted partition not detected or mounted automatically
Steve: I must be missing something here.. how do we know which UUIDs is the correct one? Especially with removable media? And yes, you could use the uuid parameter from root boot option and patch blkid to force read the uuid's from every type of signature it founds and then guess the right type by matching the uuid's and... Blkid is doing the right thing. It clearly indicates that there are multiple signatures and refuses to do any guess work. The fact that we are in this situation because of buggy cryptosetup is unfortunate (same will happen with any mkfs which does not clear the superblock). Now we just have to deal with the defected superblocks out there and in my opinion patching and changing working software that's doing what it suppose to do just to deal with buggy legacy is not the way to go. There are situations where that most probably goes wrong as we guess wrong and trash users data (how about activating a new swap partition which in fact is encrypted luks partition). We can clearly detect the situation and we can inform the users about it and we can help them fix it for good. Users know which signature is the correct one. Let's leave the decision to the user, but give all the information and help we can to make it a correct one. -- luks encrypted partition not detected or mounted automatically https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/428435 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

If so, I do think this bug should be kept opening. this bug is not about issues that might appear if you manually set IP6 to Automatic. If you have issues with IP6 Automatic setup, then file a new bug about that. This bug is _solely_ about NM using Automatic rather than Ignore for IP6 after upgrade - without the user ever touching the IP6 settings at all. - Alexander -- NetworkManager 0.8 can not get IPv4 address for wired Auto connections because IPv6 fails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/435073 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 428435] Re: luks encrypted partition not detected or mounted automatically
We discussed that in #ubuntu-release. Given how close karmic's release is, we think this is a viable strategy: (1) For karmic, patch blkid to prefer luks over ext* Rationale: This has been the behaviour for years, and worked well. We also know that creating a luks volume did not properly clean up traces from a previous ext file system, while we know that creating an ext file system over a luks file system worked properly. (I'll verify that again, though) Reopening an util-linux task for that. (2) For Lucid, discuss a proper migration strategy to clean up superblocks on upgrades. This isn't release critical for Karmic any more then. Keeping non-karmic cryptsetup task for that. ** Also affects: util-linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: util-linux (Ubuntu Karmic) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: util-linux (Ubuntu Karmic) Status: New = In Progress ** Changed in: util-linux (Ubuntu Karmic) Milestone: None = ubuntu-9.10 ** Changed in: util-linux (Ubuntu Karmic) Assignee: (unassigned) = Martin Pitt (pitti) ** Summary changed: - luks encrypted partition not detected or mounted automatically + luks encrypted partition not detected when it was created over an ext partition ** Changed in: cryptsetup (Ubuntu Karmic) Status: Confirmed = Won't Fix ** Changed in: cryptsetup (Ubuntu Karmic) Importance: High = Undecided ** Changed in: cryptsetup (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Triaged -- luks encrypted partition not detected when it was created over an ext partition https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/428435 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
