[Bug 338411] Re: Cannot retreive share list if samba client and server have the same hostname

2009-12-17 Thread Thierry Carrez
@NoWay: if you are 100% sure that you don't have the same hostname on
the network, then it's not the same bug. Please open a separate one.
Checking that ping [servername] or accessing smb://ip.of.server
succeeds would be a plus.

[Bug 497716] [NEW] Lucid: walrus not automatically discovered

2009-12-17 Thread Torsten Spindler
Public bug reported:

I just installed UEC with the Lucid installer. First I installed the
front end with clc, walrus, cc and sc. Then the node. The node told me
that it cannot find walrus and the installer suggested to me to install
it first.

I checked ps aux | grep avahi on the frontend and the avahi line for
walrus looks different from the others. It says avahi-publish -s
192.168.1.120 instead of avahi-publish -s TestCloud.

[Bug 496932] Re: Keepalived haven't LVS support

2009-12-17 Thread Geordi LaForge
Thank You Dave,
i can give you an information, probably this isn't a bug generated in the
packaging process for ubuntu,
but some problem between keepalived and the kernel source.
I made some test to build a keepalived from the source tar ball, but whit the
default kernel in ubuntu, 2.6.31.
I made some test:

Host:dubhe-V.int.mobile.ipv7.org - 12:44:50_17-12-09 -
Path:/mnt/storage/laforge-storage/download/program/keepalived-1.1.19
[root:13]#./configure --with-kernel-dir=/usr/src/kernels/linux-2.6.31.8/
[...]
checking for kernel version... 2.6.31
checking net/ip_vs.h usability... no
checking net/ip_vs.h presence... no
checking for net/ip_vs.h... no
configure: WARNING: keepalived will be built without LVS support.

Host:dubhe-V.int.mobile.ipv7.org - 12:47:12_17-12-09 -
Path:/mnt/storage/laforge-storage/download/program/keepalived-1.1.19
[root:15]#./configure
--with-kernel-dir=/usr/src/kernels/2.6.27.41-170.2.117.fc10.i686.PAE/
[...]
checking for kernel version... 2.6.27

checking net/ip_vs.h usability... yes
checking net/ip_vs.h presence... yes
checking for net/ip_vs.h... yes
checking for IPVS syncd support... yes

This is a quick analysis of the problem, but permit to close the search of the
problem:
1) Something changed in the kernel source put keepalived not able to link the
ipvs framework
2) Something changed in the keepalived that break the configure script

Happy to power up Ubuntu ;)

[Bug 496932] Re: Keepalived haven't LVS support

2009-12-17 Thread Andres E. Rodriguez Lazo
Hi Geordi.

This is indeed a bug in the configure.in file of the package. However,
this bug has already been fixed in Debian version 1.1.17-2 (In karmic we
have 1.1.17-1ubuntu1). To get this fixed in Karmic we'll have to
backport keepalived 1.1.17-2 into Karmic, from Lucid. However,
keepalived 1.1.17-2 is not in Lucid yet. This is because I'm personally
waiting for Debian to see if they update to a newer upstream release.

If they don't, I'll personally be requesting the merge and the backport
into karmic to fix this bug.

Cheers,

Andres.

[Bug 497763] [NEW] Hang during installation

2009-12-17 Thread Luke
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apache2

I did not have my full machine name in /etc/hosts, so during install the
apache2 install process reported that it could not reliably determine
the machine's host name and hung at that point in the install. I had to
ctrl-c to stop that package. I then put my machine's *full* dns name
(with domain) in /etc/hosts and /etc/hostname and re-ran that package
and it worked fine

I have an internal DNS system running so my full hostname had to have
.int appended as the TLD part of the name.

[Bug 497781] [NEW] sshd stop on two SIGHUP

2009-12-17 Thread PierreF
Public bug reported:

When you send two SIGHUP to sshd (to reload it configuration), sshd
simply die.

How to reproduce:

1)start an sshd server

if you do killall -s SIGHUP sshd. The server restart successfully.

2) To kill sshd with SIGHUP, run killall -s SIGHUP sshd killall -s SIGHUP
sshd
i.e. run two killall -s SIGHUP sshd at the same time.

3) # ps waux | grep sshd
root 19265 0.0 0.0 3352 820 pts/10 S+ 15:42 0:00 grep sshd

No sshd running :(

I think it's because the second SIGHUP happend before sshd finished his startup.
Their is not problem running several killall -s SIGHUP sshd we a little delay
(like the time to press up arrow and enter). But two SIGHUP at the same time
cause sshd to die nearly everytime.

This is an issues because afaik SIGHUP is sent by networking script
(ifup ?) when an interface have an IP. On a server with 3 static IP, the
sshd process get killed this way. No sshd, not possible to do an ssh on
that server. Rebooted the server and everything get fine.

[Bug 127180] Re: Install squid in chroot by default

2009-12-17 Thread PatRiehecky
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 497790 ***

The Ubuntu side of this can be obsoleted by bug 497790 where I have
attached a patch giving an apparmor profile to squid. Debian may wish
to pursue this further to have a more flexible solution.

[Bug 404394] Re: kvm-84: virtio on qcow2 broken (regression)

2009-12-17 Thread müzso
I hope I'm not getting lynched :-), but I'd like to reopen this bug as not
fixed. Previously you wrote that Karmic is not affected, however I've
experienced filesystem corruption inside qcow2 images. It's a bit hard to
reproduce since I had it in Windows 2003 guests, but I'll try to create a test
case with an Ubuntu (eg. Karmic) guest too.
The host OS is Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic and kvm is version
84+dfsg-0ubuntu16+0.11.0+0ubuntu6.3.
The corruption occurs only during high I/O (as described by others before).
It's irrelevant whether the high I/O is in the host OS or in the guest. I'll
post again once I've an easily reproduceable test case, preferably in a linux
guest OS.

I'm also hit by bug#448694 which was the reason for using qcow2 images

[Bug 414885] Re: KVM crashes when -vga is set to vmware.

2009-12-17 Thread Roland Dreier
OK, I've sent this on upstream and in fact there is a whole series of
vmware_vga stuff at http://www.mail-archive.com/qemu-de...@nongnu.org/
that might be worth picking up.

I think it would be nice to get a fixed qemu-kvm into Karmic during the
Lucid cycle, since vmware is the fastest video driver for kvm, and being
able to test Lucid images in Karmic would be nice.

Are you planning on picking up qemu 0.12 for Lucid? Seems like it would
be a good idea, since the new stable series would probably be better
supportable long-term.

[Bug 498022] [NEW] Need package for php5 without suhosin patch

2009-12-17 Thread jmccaskey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: php5

First, I know bugs related to suhosin have been discussed before and
understand that you can choose to use the module or not by installing
php5-suhosin. However, there is currently no way to disable the core
suhosin patch except to build your own PHP5 packages.

The Suhosin patch itself adds significant memory and cpu overhead to PHP
and there should be a way to disable it without having to go through the
headache of maintaining our own modules.

In our case we are serving the page
http://store.steampowered.com/app/500/ as an example, with the default
Ubuntu package with Suhosin we get peak memory usage during page
generation of 9961472 bytes, and a total execution time of ~75ms. If we
rebuild without the Suhosin patch and use a custom package we end up
with peak memory usage of 7077888 bytes and a page generation time of
roughly 50ms. These same type of results (ie, roughly 40% increased
memory usage and 20-50% increased CPU usage) are easily repeatable
across many machines and across many different page requests.

Since our code is well audited and secure, and since the memory canaries
it provides only help detect memory corruption bugs in PHP itself and do
not prevent them we see no reason we would ever wish to run with it
enabled on our production servers.

Please provide packages for Ubuntu that don't force the inclusion of
Suhosin!

[Bug 497716] Re: Lucid: walrus not automatically discovered

2009-12-17 Thread Colin Watson
The -s argument shouldn't matter, for what it's worth. The important
thing is just that it has type=walrus.

When the node installation fails, could you switch to tty2 and run
'EUCA_FIND_COMPONENT_DEBUG=1 euca_find_component walrus', and copy the
output here? You might have to transcribe the output manually; sorry
about that if so.

 Binary package hint: apache2

 Debian changelog:

 apache2 (2.2.14-3) unstable; urgency=low

    includes:
    - Make PUT replace files atomically (closes: #525137).
    - Make MOVE not delete the destination if the source file disappeared in
      the meantime (closes: #273476).

  * Update the comment about SNI in ports.conf (closes: #556932).
  * Set redirect-carefully for Konqueror/4.

[Bug 497666] [NEW] Fresh install of Karmic 64bit doesn't boot

2009-12-17 Thread wl2776
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I was trying to install Ubuntu 9.10 from this DVD image
http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/releases/9.10/release/ubuntu-9.10-dvd-
amd64.iso

My hard drive is split to two partitions, /dev/sda1 is mounted as /home and
/dev/sda5 is mounted as root.
I had previously installed ubuntu. I have made a fresg install of the on
/dev/sda5 without formatting and with option Install boot loader.

Everything went fine until the last message about removing dvd from the
tray and pressing enter to reboot.

After reboot I was observing blank screen for some time and then a message
appeared
chroot: cannot execute /etc/apparmor/initramfs: exec format error
and that's all.

When I brought up grub's menu, I've seen old kernels which were present
in previously installing system.

Karmic 32bit has successfully installed this way.
Unfortunately, I cannot attach any log files, because this is my working
computer and I had to install an operating system and return to my duties.

I am so sorry but I still cannot reproduce the problem. Here are the
steps I am taking so maybe you can see where I am going wrong:

1 - Open Evolution
2a - Click FILE from the toolbar at the top -
2b - Click IMPORT from the pulldown
2c - FORWARD from the wizard
2d - IMPORT SINGLE FILE from the list of options
2e - Browse to the good email saved on your desk
2f - SELECT THE FILE
2g - Click SELECT to close the file browse window
2h - Click FORWARD from the wizard
2i - Click SELECT A FOLDER then choose DRAFTS from the list of options
2j - Click FORWARD from the wizard
2k - Click IMPORT to close the wizard dialog
3 - Go to the drafts folder, the good email should be there.
4 - Right click on the imported Good Email and choose EDIT AS A NEW MESSAGE
5 - Click TO - Select a distribution list called TEST with the following
addresses. When creating the list I unchecked the box that says Hide
Addresses. Click ADD to the TO FIELD then CLOSE to return to the email.

[Bug 477154] Re: When headphones are plugged in, the speaker does not get muted automatically.

2009-12-17 Thread Anwesh Mazumdar
@Janos Zsitvai

Thanks a lot for your help. Without this I would be left stranded with a
very public laptop which entertains everybody in the room when I play
some music! But I am a bit confused here.

I have a Vostro 1220, which also has a Conexant 5067 and hence the same
problem. I installed your patched backport .deb from your website and
tried. Nothing happened (still sound from speaker as well as headphone).
My first question: is this not enough? Or is it because I need a
different patch?

Then I installed hda-verb and used the script hp-toggle.sh. Now it
works, but I have a peculiar problem. If I run mplayer (or similar)
successively on some music file from a terminal, the sound comes out
consistently through the speaker or the headphone, depending on the last
toggled state. But if I play some music file from the internet (using
mplayer firefox plugin), every time I play a new file, the sound reverts
back to the speaker, and I have to run hp-toggle.sh again to bring it
back to the headphone. If I do not toggle, it still comes out of the
speaker for the next link. One has to toggle every time the mplayer
starts to have the sound in the headphone.

I am wondering if I need to something more to get this fixed.

The details of my system are as follows:

$ uname -r
2.6.31-16-generic

[Bug 497668] [NEW] No Signal from second VGA on DVI dongle

2009-12-17 Thread kirke
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic on a Zotac IONITX A-U (9400M Nvidia onboard). I have
two VGA monitors. The second, which is always No Signal is connected
to a dongle to the DVI port (Viewsonic). The main X monitor is connected
to the VGA port above the DVI port. Tried the stock 185 and 190.53 from
the nvidia-vdpau PPA. There were two hurdles I overcame, but I'm stuck
on the third:

1. nvidia-settings Save to X configuration file button fails.
= sudo nvidia-settings
2. Next you'll crash with: Unable to parse xorg.conf file!
VALIDATION ERROR: Data incomplete in file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
Undefined Device (null) referenced by Screen Default Screen.
Segmentation fault
= insert Device field into the Screen section:
3. Second monitor is stuck on No Signal.

Both 185 and 190 recognized the Viewsonic through the dongle, but the
second monitor is never getting a signal. I can swap connectors and see
the reverse - the second monitor works fine. I use the same monitor
as a second head under Intrepid with an ASUS GeForce 8400GS with no
problems in Xinerama mode to watch Mythtv 0.21.

I've never seen a glimmer of hope from the DVI output, and I'm left
wondering if this is a hardware problem or not. I guess the fact that
nvidia-settings recognized the device is a sign this may be a driver
issue.

I tried the 190.53 driver from nvidia-vdpau PPA because of this tidbit in the
release notes:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_190.53.html
Fixed a problem that caused resolution limitations or corruption on certain
DisplayPort devices such as the Apple 24 Cinema display or some DisplayPort to
VGA adapters.

But to no avail - I'm seeing the same behavior with 185 and 190 versions of
proprietary nvidia driver.
I've attached Xorg.0.log.

[Bug 497667] [NEW] firefox-alsa-plugin makes firefox stop playing audio after a while, and get trouble exiting

2009-12-17 Thread AndreK
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

This is unlike other bugreports here, because it don't stop other audio output
from working.
Once firefox can't play audio no more, restarting firefox fixes the problem. -
but it needs to be killed, because this problem makes firefox fail to end
properly. (process remains after the window closes)

Here's why I know firefox-alsa-plugin is to blame:

-start PulseAudio device chooser (install if needed)
-click it's icon on the panel, and choose Manager
-click statistics button
-press refresh and observe All allocated memory blocks allocated during
deamon Lifetime
--if no there is no audio output from any application, observe that the number
does not increase.
--if some application play audio, the value increases until paused or stopped -
then it stops as well.

Now: firefox-alsa-plugin:
if you play ANY sound in firefox, the All allocated memory blocks allocated
during deamon Lifetime will increase forever !
you may close the playing tab and the plugin will keep streaming audio.

I am sure it's te be blamed, it behaves unlike any other application..
pumping out data whole time.

[Bug 497672] [NEW] [MIR] pm-utils-powersave-policy

2009-12-17 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pm-utils-powersave-policy

pm-utils-powersave-policy is a trivial package which ships two (maybe
more in the future) pm-utils hooks which toggle various power-saving
settings in sysfs. https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec
/desktop-lucid-powermanagement-tweaks has the details.

This is a new and native Ubuntu package, Martin Pitt maintains it and is
subscribed to bug reports. There's no history for it yet.

2009-12-17 Thread Janos Zsitvai
The device id is different, so it does not get recognized as the 5067.

I think it should work after a reboot if you add the following to the end of
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf:
options snd-hda-intel model=dell-vostro

[Bug 495791] Re: package javascript-common 6 failed to install/upgrade: (upgrade to 9.10)

2009-12-17 Thread Kieron Wilkinson
Okay, it does indeed seem to have been down to by apache2 prompting for
a passphrase. I got it to hang again, ran your command, and got the
following:

$ sudo sh -x /var/lib/dpkg/info/javascript-common.postinst configure
+ set -e
+ mkdir -p /etc/apache2/conf.d
+ [ ! -e /etc/apache2/conf.d/javascript-common.conf ]
+ ln -s /etc/javascript-common/javascript-common.conf
/etc/apache2/conf.d/javascript-common.conf
+ restart=apache2
+ servers=apache2
+ . /usr/share/wwwconfig-common/restart.sh
+ status=nothing
+ error=
+ [ -z apache2 ]
+ restart= apache2
+ echo apache2
+ sed -e s| apache2 ||g;
+ verify=
+ [  !=  apache2  ]
+ log=apache2 needs to be restarted.
+ [ -x /usr/sbin/invoke-rc.d ]
+ [ -x /etc/init.d/apache2 ]
+ /usr/sbin/invoke-rc.d apache2 restart
+ status=error
+ error=ERROR! /usr/sbin/invoke-rc.d apache2 restart, returned an error.
apache2 could not be restarted.
+ exit 0

I then disabled my SSL certificate to avoid the apache restart prompt,
then reinstalled javascript-common, and it installed fine!

I'm not sure how this problem can be resolved for others doing something
similar, maybe it is possible to detect if apache2 is waiting for
something?

Anyway, thanks very much for your help!

[Bug 475936] Re: race condition between encrypted device creation and mountall probing with random-encrypted devices (swap, tmp)

2009-12-17 Thread Steve Langasek
Swâmi,

Just confirmed that using the test case in lucid, the /tmp directory
fails to be mounted. However, this is because mountall treats the /tmp
directory specially. Varying the /etc/fstab line in either of two ways
is enough to fix this:

 - set the 'pass' option to non-zero
 - mount it somewhere other than /tmp

After making either change, mountall successfully mounts the device for
me.

I've updated the test case using the first of these options.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: mountall

I am using Ubuntu 9.10 with the latest packages applied (apt-get uprade)
  Version of mountall: 1.0
Expected results: /dev/mapper/tmp should be mounted on /tmp
Unexpected results: /dev/mapper/tmp is not mounted on /tmp

  In my /etc/crypttab I have:
  tmp /dev/sda2 /dev/urandom tmp
  swap /dev/sda3 /dev/urandom swap

In my /etc/fstab I have (among other lines), this:
  /dev/mapper/tmp /tmp ext2 relatime02

Most of the time the system boots OK, but /tmp never gets mounted.
This appears to be an issue with mountall because if I run mountall from the
command line, then /tmp does get mounted.
When the /dev/mapper/tmp device is created (part of the cryptsetup process),
the mkfs -t ext2 command is run on /dev/mapper/tmp. It appears mountall is not
waiting for this to complete. Should there be a timeout for a dynamically
created tmp to be available before it is mounted?

  TEST CASE:
  1. select a spare partition on your disk, referred to below as /dev/sdf12
  2. install the cryptsetup package from karmic.
  3. configure it for use with cryptsetup as a device with a random key by
adding this line to /etc/crypttab:
  /dev/mapper/crypttmp /dev/sdf12 /dev/urandom tmp
  4. configure the tmp partition to be auto-enabled by adding this line to
/etc/fstab:
- /dev/mapper/crypttmp /tmp ext2defaults 0
  0
+ /dev/mapper/crypttmp /tmp ext2defaults 0
  2
  5. reboot
  6. verify that the tmp partition is not successfully mounted by running
'mount | grep /tmp'
- 8. upgrade to the karmic-proposed version of cryptsetup
- 9. re-enable the crypttmp line in /etc/fstab
- 10. reboot
- 11. verify that the tmp partition has been successfully mount, by checking
the output of 'mount | grep /tmp'
+ 7. upgrade to the karmic-proposed version of cryptsetup
+ 8. re-enable the crypttmp line in /etc/fstab
+ 9. reboot
+ 10. verify that the tmp partition has been successfully mount, by checking
the output of 'mount | grep /tmp'

  REGRESSION POTENTIAL:
In order to prevent mountall from seeing the block device before it's been
formatted / mkswap'ed for use, cryptsetup must create the device under a
different name initially, format, and then rename to the public device name.
For sanity's sake, the proposed patch does this for /all/ cryptsetup devices,
not just those configured for tmp or swap; and there is a small but finite risk
that someone will already have a /dev/mapper/${name}_unformatted node on their
system that conflicts with one of these devices, causing this device to fail to
be set up at boot time due to the name collision.

The '${name}_unformatted' temp name was chosen to minimize this risk; I
believe the risk is acceptably low for an SRU.

[Bug 497679] [NEW] KRDC does not honor my left-hand mouse button settings.

2009-12-17 Thread Frank Braungardt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: krdc

KRDC does not honor my left-hand mouse button settings. I was connecting
from one (Ubuntu kde4) to another machine (gentoo with x11vnc kde4).
Both machines have mouse buttons switched to left handed, but in krdc I
had to use my right hand to click. It should use the local machines
settings anyway (Keyb Mouse), we do not want MS Remote Desktop
behavior that even uses remote machines' keyboard layouts instead of
local machines'.
