[Bug 501956] [NEW] OpenSSH does not log failed attempts when key authentication is used
Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu 9.10 Release:9.10 openssh-server: Installed: 1:5.1p1-6ubuntu2 Candidate: 1:5.1p1-6ubuntu2 Version table: *** 1:5.1p1-6ubuntu2 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status If you disable password authentication in sshd_config (PasswordAuthentication no) and attempt to log in with an incorrect key, a failed login attempt entry should appear in auth.log, as it does with username/password authentication. Nothing is logged though. If you change LogLevel INFO to VERBOSE in /etc/ssh/sshd_config you do get an entry as below but it isn't enough to indicate a potential issue : Dec 31 18:17:33 localhost sshd[8011]: Connection from 82.23.xx.yy port 38583 ** Affects: openssh (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- OpenSSH does not log failed attempts when key authentication is used https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/501956 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openssh in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 501843] [NEW] kernel cmdline requires i8042.reset i8042.nomux to fix erratic touchpad on Compaq Presario V5000
Public bug reported: Under both the live CD and an HDD-based installation, the touchpad and keyboard on my Compaq Presario V5000 will often randomly become erratic; attempts to move the mouse pointer will incur random jumping of the mouse pointer, or phantom right or left clicks. This effect will come and go apparently randomly. Also, I'm seeing similar issues with the keyboard; e.g. typing letters may work, but TAB/CTRL+character won't or vice-versa. I see messages from the kernel like: Dec 31 00:53:00 taw kernel: [ 87.924490] psmouse.c: issuing reconnect request Dec 31 00:53:08 taw kernel: [ 95.916392] psmouse.c: TouchPad at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost sync at byte 4 Dec 31 00:53:08 taw kernel: [ 95.930516] psmouse.c: TouchPad at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost sync at byte 4 Dec 31 00:53:08 taw kernel: [ 95.932620] psmouse.c: TouchPad at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost sync at byte 1 Dec 31 00:53:08 taw kernel: [ 95.934505] psmouse.c: TouchPad at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost sync at byte 1 Dec 31 00:53:08 taw kernel: [ 95.935848] psmouse.c: TouchPad at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost sync at byte 1 Dec 31 00:53:08 taw kernel: [ 95.935851] psmouse.c: issuing reconnect request I found some potentially relevant threads: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=134123page=2 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=713676 ... and ended up adding i8042.reset i8042.nomux to the kernel command- line, which appears to have fixed it. Note that various Fedora versions (I think in the 8..10 range; I can look up the most recent version if required) did not require those parameters, so this appears to be a kernel regression. FYI, the clamav folks said this is just what the sendmail-supplied libmilter(?) library does. [Bug 479905] Re: VPN PPTP problem in Kubuntu Karmic Beta
Adding a mee too. Can't see if the connection works or not, just trying blindly to click again and again, that's not very user friendly. [Bug 433856] Re: Display Properties sets virtual resolution too low
Sorry for multiple posting (no way of editing ?): New observation: Now that I told Display Preferences that my external monitor is to the right side of my laptop it has worked (though physically it still is to its left). BUT - the display is still a bit whacky and fickle, that is to say, the panels (both top and below Firefox, whatever their proper name), are mostly stripy orange with the occasional icon / button visible when I hover over it. Re: [Bug 93849] Re: Feature request: Adaptive Multi-Rate Codec Support
komputes kompu...@gmail.com writes: On the upstream ffmpeg bug, cehoyos has recommended to use ffmpeg SVN with the options explained in the documentation. You can pull the source code by running: svn checkout svn://svn.ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg/trunk ffmpeg this will break all applications that have been built against ubuntu's system ffmpeg that is currently at version 0.5. Please don't do that on production systems. Can anyone confirm that ffmpeg from SVN with the options below actually plays AMR properly? It will probably do. and I could just add the build dependency and built the system ffmpeg against opencore-amr. [Bug 501737] Re: gpsd: client(0): channel assignment failed.
Do you have a gps receiver at all? If not, I'd suggest that you just remove gpsd or ignore the errors. Without a connected gps receiver it is obvious that you see errors gpsd is started as a daemon at boot time normally, so that is normal that you don't see a parent process. There are a lot of applications being able to use gpsd, pretty much all applications which do something with maps or some kind of geo/gis stuff. Urgh, a new kernel can sometimes take very long to get into the official Ubuntu repositories.
