[Bug 502607] [NEW] Cannot Browse to Windows Shared Printer In Lucid

2010-01-03 Thread sparker256
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

Description:Ubuntu lucid (development branch)
Release:10.04

Method:
* Open System - Administration - Printing from the gnome panel
* Select New
* Network Printer - Windows Printer via SAMBA
* Browse
* The workgroup MSHOME is shown. The machine sharing the printer is part of
MSHOME
* Trying to Open the MSHOME sub-tree I am greeted with a Authentication
Dialog box.

When I do the same thing on my Karmic installation it will browse to my
printer.

If I put the same path as in Karmic for the printer in the SMB Printer
box the printer works.

[Bug 502607] Re: Cannot Browse to Windows Shared Printer In Lucid

2010-01-03 Thread ubername
Pretty sure this is related to:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/490201

It's not just a printer issue: you can not see any of the machines in
the workgroup.

FWIW I don't think it is just a Nautilus issue, as the same behaviour is
exhibited in gnome-commander. smbclient has been suggested as a
potential avenue to explore.

[Bug 502762] [NEW] [karmic] winbind installation causes apt to fail

2010-01-03 Thread quixote
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: winbind

winbind 3.4.0-3ubuntu5.1 installs and works, but nothing involving apt
works after it's installed. Update manager doesn't find updates,
running sudo apt-get install [any package] fails with a message about
something wicked happened. Reloading the repositories won't connect
with any servers, and gives the same wicked message.

As soon as winbind is uninstalled, no reboot necessary, apt works fine
again.

(I tried to use apport for this, as per instructions, but couldn't get
it to report anything.)

Additionally, this bug doesn't affect just the ability to import large

[Bug 502542] [NEW] kernel BUG at /build/buildd/linux-rt-2.6.31/fs/ext4/extents.c:1184!

2010-01-03 Thread Ernst Sjöstrand
Public bug reported:

This has happened a couple of times recently under heavy disk IO, not sure why
because this hasn't happened for a long time before.
So the setup is: Karmic host with ext4 filesystem.
Karmic KVM guest with encrypted filesystem on a disk-file on the ext4
filesystem.
The BUG is on the host.

You can see that this happens both with 2.6.31-16 and 2.6.31-9-rt (which
is a bit older, right?).

[Bug 502543] [NEW] Cannot boot more than twice without fsck

2010-01-03 Thread Ross
Public bug reported:

I know there are other similar bug reports, but I cannot find anything
specific t this issue. After upgrading from Jaunty to Karmic, I ran
into major problems with booting. i am currently using grub 2 and have
converted my file system to ext4. The symptoms of this bug are that
after running fsck, the system boots normally. On the second boot, it
usually boots normally. By the third boot, it either takes 10 to 30 min
to boot or will not boot at all.

The boot sequence always goes smoothly (and fast) up to 'apparmor
complain mode'. When it slows down or freezes it's at either fsck check
(clean or otherwise), or at loading keymap.

Currently, although this has not always been the case, I get some
mountall failures during the boot sequence. On occasion, I also receive
some alsa failures, and sometimes cpu 1 Bug soft lockup. None of these
happen on every boot sequence, but after three reboots a fsck is
required to boot into the upgraded Karmic install.

Also of note, I have clean installation of Karmic on another partition
that boots fine.

Same issue here! I get stuck at 64.1 MB. That's it. I thought for a

Ubuntu one simply doesn't work. I have tried unsubscribing and resubscribing.
Sync occasionaly occurs, but only the folders appear to be updated. As far as I
can tell, no files have been uploaded. This is a Karmic update over Jaunty. I
have uninstalled and reinstalled and followed all of the miracle cures on the
forum. Unfortunately AFIAC this system is not fit for purpose. I'm unimpressed
with 9.10 in general - networking doesn't work in Nautilus, printing doesn't
work and a long list of other things. WRT u1, the system generated problem
report is inaccurate in that it reports bandwidth throttling 'on'. On top of

Please sync gcin 1.4.5-1.1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

Debian has fixed ftbfs with gcc 4.4 so can be synced again

Changelog since current lucid version 1.4.5-1ubuntu1:

gcin (1.4.5-1.1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Add missing #include to fix FTBFS with gcc 4.4, patch by Martin
Michlmayr. (Closes: #531715)
  * gcin-qt{3,4}-immodule: add lintian overrides for shlib-defines-rpath,
this is needed to get the package pass through auto-REJECT. Rationale:
rpath is appropriate here, the packages use private shlibs.

[Bug 502552] [NEW] Totem crashes as soon as it opens when DVD is inserted

2010-01-03 Thread f3a97
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Hi,

I just discovered that totem crashes as soon as it opens after a DVD is
inserted. I've seen some hopefully meaningful messages in my .xsession-
errors, please have a look at it.

Here are the steps:

1) I inserted a DVD (Michael Jackson Heal the World, original)
2) I'm asked if I want to open it with movie player, I choose yes
3) Totem opens and quits immediately, with no other messages

If I explore the DVD with nautilus, a button suggest to open it with
movie player. If I click on it, again the same problem.

NB: I have installed the ubuntu-restricted-extras package, so DVD
support should be installed.

Thanks.

This is the output I got from screen brightness down:
KeyPress event, serial 37, synthetic NO, window 0x1e1,

Obviously that's only key down, not up.

The setpci command works for me to change brightness. However, the keys
do not change the brightness. I'm also not running gnome-power-manager
so I wouldn't expect this to work.

I was running 9.04 this morning and xev wasn't showing any output for
the keys. However, I upgraded to 10.04 and the issue seems to have gone
away.

Could somebody else try with the daily live cd?

[Bug 502454] Re: add-apt-repository should allow version specification or offer next highest repo version if repo for running version is not found

2010-01-03 Thread amichair
That would be me :-)

I'm pretty new in this community, and have been working on bugfixing in
the software-properties package. As I have been told when I raised the
question myself, it's not the date that matters when marking an issue as
duplicate, but the amount of information, clarity, or anything else that
would make one report seem more useful to the developers than another.
If they are more or less equivalent, then it doesn't matter much which
is marked as duplicate... any open issue will eventually get fixed
(hopefully!), regardless of submitter or date.

The submitter felt that the new submission was clearer - if you feel
that the two issues are not the same, or that the earlier one better
describes it, or any mistake has been made in either of the reports,
feel free to correct them - we're all on the same team here :-)

To unmark a duplicate, I think you just edit the duplicate setting to be
blank.

[Bug 447241] Re: kubuntu Karmic network dsl doesn't work

2010-01-03 Thread Nicolai_J.
It sounds like: Bug #432205
But I think it is not a duplicate of bug #334122 - that's about mobile
broadband connections!

1. I also add a DSL (PPPoE) connection. I realized that the plasma widget
doesn't show me a DSL connection.
I can set a DSL connection with pppoeconf and connect with pon dsl-provider -
but it doesn't work for me.

2. A little fix:
Edit /etc/network/interfaces (with root privileges)
and remove everything that doesn't begin with an auto (like auto eth0 and
auto lo).

for example an interfaces file can looks like this:

auto lo
auto eth0

[Bug 461654] Re: hang during boot until orinoco drivers re-enabled

2010-01-03 Thread Volker Knollmann
Hmmm... no WPA doesn't help a lot

I still have the old 2.6.28-14-generic kernel installed and available in
GRUB. My Xubuntu-installation still works with this kernel... including
WLAN WPA2. But it's not a 100% solution since I experience some
troubles with my X when running the old kernel and the new 9.10
Xubuntu: sometimes, my external monitor gets filled completely white
while the internal LCD remains intact. The only way to fix that is to
restart X... :-(

Some from my point of view / on my machine there are two choices:

  * Run the new kernel with permanently working X and permanently no
WLAN/WPA

  * Run the old kernel with occasionally breaking X and full WLAN/WPA

Make your choice.
