[Bug 504157] [NEW] Lucid UEC installer: CC install is not preseeded when separated from CLC

UEC installer 20100107 / eucalyptus 1.6.2~bzr1120-0ubuntu4
CLC+Walrus / CC+SC topology

When running the UEC installer to install CC+SC, the CLC preseed file doesn't 
appear to be taken into account:
- installer still asks for default user name / password
- the CLC key is not copied into local authorized_keys

/var/log/installer/syslog shows that the preseed file was loaded:

I changed the group bug it still doesn't use kvm.

$ groups libvirt-qemu 
libvirt-qemu : libvirtd kvm

As strange as it can be, when I run the kvm same command as user libvirt-qemu 
it appears that kvm is used (I can't remove the module), but not when using 
virt-manager.
I checked euid et ruid of the process without founding any solution, and I have 
no idea for an explanation.

PS. bug #341003 and #473976 seems to be the same crash: all is using
x86_64 and nvidia binary drivers.

I am also affected by this. php (ran from commandline here) is randomly
crashing for me. i get a few such crashes each week and they are not
reproducible.

NC publication job doesn't run, so it never gets registered.

NC publication recently switched to started on (started ssh and started 
avahi-daemon and net-device-up IFACE=eth0)
However avahi-publish dies when avahi-daemon is restarted, and avahi-daemon is 
restarted when NC comes up (new interface added).

Pending some input from upstart experts on how to best handle the
situation (supposing there is a perfect way and we are not hitting The
Upstart Bug), this will be reverted to the old behavior (started on
started eucalyptus-nc) which happens to work perfectly.

I installed Hardy as a guest on KVM on RH 5.4 using bridge networking.
System will reboot as soon as I tried to pull in a file via either ftp,
nfs or scp. Just changed back to virtual networking and the problem goes
away. This severly limits my ability to have the guest be accessed
externally.

Invalid means what you reported wasn't actually a bug in clamav.

About that second error you get, I'm guessing the package wasn't
installed properly, try to reinstall it, it's called libtommath0.

Installing walrus as a separate component, I end up with 
/var/lib/eucalyptus/.ssh being 700 root:root
That makes it unreadable for the eucalyptus user, so authorized_keys is not 
usable, so registration fails.

I also think that package smbfs should depend on keyutils. Suggesting it is not 
enough. Many people installing smbfs will connect to DFS, and that won't work 
without keyutils installed. That is the cause of bug#134080:

Tested with current Lucid UEC installer
You end up with no /etc/eucalyptus/eucalyptus-sc.conf or SC_NAME defined, so 
publication fails, so autoregistration fails as well.

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

Normally, the SDL output window for a VM resizes to match the VM's
resolution.  However, intermittently the output is instead scaled within
the window.  I can't seem to find any pattern to when the output is
scaled versus when the window is resized.  I would prefer that the
window be resized as needed to display the VM in a 1:1 manner.

I'm not sure if this bug is in dhcp3-client or ifupdown.

My /etc/network/interfaces looks like this:

metric 10

When the interface is brought up automatically, the metric-line is
ignored, the default-route has metric 100.

But when issuing a manual ifdown,ifup, there are two default-routes, one
with metric 100, one with metric 10.

Now, the migrate, then suspend/resume suggestion works for me. Still
less than ideal, as it kills the whole live migration thing, but at

This appears to be fixed in Lucid.

I just did the following on an up-to-date Lucid, and did not encounter a
problem:

sudo apt-get purge euca2ools eucalyptus-cc eucalyptus-cloud eucalyptus-common 
eucalyptus-gl eucalyptus-java-common eucalyptus-sc eucalyptus-walrus 
python-image-store-proxy
...
sudo apt-get install euca2ools eucalyptus-cc eucalyptus-cloud eucalyptus-common 
eucalyptus-gl eucalyptus-java-common eucalyptus-sc eucalyptus-walrus 
python-image-store-proxy

Mathias-

So I have some code (attached) that *should* do this for us.  Basically,
we need to create a dummy event (a long sleep) in the eucalyptus upstart
job if this is a eucalyptus node.

However, I'm having upstart troubles.  Using the attached patch, I can:
 * eucalyptus  eucalyptus-nc to start on boot
 * eucalyptus  eucalyptus-nc to stop on sudo stop eucalyptus

But when I try to sudo start eucalyptus, eucalyptus starts, but not
eucalyptus-nc.  It has something to do with the and libvirt-bin.  If I
drop that off, that works, but that would cause a regression elsewhere.

@Dustin: I think with the and you hit the same issue (The Upstart
Bug, to quote slangasek) than I do in the publication scripts when I
try to start on (started ssh and started avahi-daemon). You'd have to
start libvirt-bin again if you want eucalyptus-nc to get it.

Hello,
I am in the process of converting my father to linux (after years of explaining 
why linux is better, he's finally ready!)
Anyways, via the phone, he follow all of my steps and even verified that the 
disk had no errors before attempting installation today.
This problem occurred for him. Though I am not in front of his computer, I can 
tell you a few things:
-he's running a dell that's about 4 years old, but has at least 3gb of ram
-he has no raid or encrypted partitions to my knowledge, hence, i'm confused 
why this is even running on his startup.
In order to clarify for Steve, his error actually occurred on the line 
following Starting Init Crypto Disk to the best of my knowledge.

Whoopie's patch, tested by installing tvtime from his ppa. (running
Karmic amd64 here, using a WinTV-HVR 950, which worked great in tvtime
except without sound) works perfectly for my setup.  I was running
tvtime with a script like the following:

tvtime 
sleep 1
sox -r 48000 -b 16 -c 2 -t ossdsp /dev/dsp1 -t ossdsp /dev/dsp

And that worked although with horrendous lag between the sound and the
video, it wasn't even watchable, but with Whoopie's patch tvtime works
as expected with no hacks.  Thanks much Whoopie, hopefully this can be
integrated into the official ubuntu version in the near future

Hello, if you would be so kind enough to let me know what command/s I need
to enter in a terminal window so I can report with enough pertinent data
about a bug I recently encountered with Karmic Koala.

It's about an old Dell Inspiron 1100 I did a clean install. The Belkin USB
wireless I use with it works with my WRT54GL using DD-WRT sp24, but not with
the WRT54GL that also has DD-WRT sp24.

Aside from different ISP provider I have here at work and at home, and the
DSL modem provided by my two ISPs, I am at a loss why the Dell will connect
here in my workplace, but not at home.

Also, this Dell, whe I use it at home can connect with a wired connection
directly to the DSL modem, but not using the ports in the WRT54GL. Yet, it
can connect, wired, using the ports in the same brand, same version WRT54GL,
in my my workplace.

I also have another laptop which is relatively newer to this Dell. It used
to work fine, wired or wireless, here in my workplace and at home, before I
upgraded this laptop from 9.04 to 9.10.

become corrupt and/or extensions can conflict.  Could you please try
this with a new profile and see if the problem still exists?  You do not
need to delete your old profile to test.  If this helps, you might want
to try to disable all your extensions and re-enable them one by one
until you find the problematic one.

You can start the profile manager with the following command:
firefox -ProfileManager

I've noticed another problems with ktorrent  encryptfs and I think it's
the same bug.

Files which ktorrent downloads to encryptfs are corrupted! The same
files downloaded out of encryptfs are ok.

I'm enabling data checking after download and ktorrent often get ~30-50%
corrupted parts.

Exactly same problem here on Precision M6300, using debian
testing/unstable. Introduced sometime around December 2009. Tried
variuos things without success.

Calling pm-suspend from shell works flawless, closing the lid and
reopening it causes an extra suspend cycle for some weird reason.

Can you guys check wether it works correct when you type pm-suspend
into a terminal?

I know I'm jumping in late, but I see this behavior (black images) as of
Firefox 3.5.6 on Windows XP SP3 (native, no virtualization).

Images become black more often as the number of tabs increases. Special
culprits are Wikipedia and OKCupid. Rebooting the machine fixes the
problem, so this smells more like a memory leak in the already bloated
Firefox.

When running the UEC installer to install CC+SC, the CLC preseed file doesn't 
appear to be taken into account:
- installer still asks for default user name / password
- the CLC key is not copied into local authorized_keys

/var/log/installer/syslog shows that the preseed file was loaded:
