I can confirm that this bug appears in Ubuntu 10.04, Lucid Lynx. Oddly enough, I did not encounter it in 9.10. Anyway, for professional reasons, I generally switch between three different keyboard layouts: USA, USA International (with dead keys), and Latin American. I have configured GNOME to change the keyboard layout when I press Shift + Caps Lock. However, since upgrading to Lucid, the keyboard configuration will randomly switch without me entering the key sequence. Thus far, I have been unable to isolate a single common key sequence or action that triggers this change reliably, although I have found that using the mouse to select an item from a GNOME panel frequently triggers it. I have examined the hotkey settings, and found nothing that would explain why the layout keeps changing. This get more interesting. As a matter of fact I experience an xserver crash. The kernel seems to be intact. After having run for 4 days $uptime 01:48:36 up 4 days, 13:21, 4 users, load average: 0.17, 0.46, 0.88 I get an X crash and a window in a minute saying that a low graphic session can only be run with different options none of which bring me back to drm/dri capable Xserver. This probably indicates that I have to file a separate bug? It is likely that this bug also affects me on a Latitude E4310 (same CPU/video card). My symptom is that the video does not turn on on resume. Anyway, I can switch to a console (ctrl+alt+f1) and then reboot via ctrl+alt+canc. I also tried upgrading to Maverick, but without any success. With a LiveCD the suspend/resume works only the first time I suspend. The second resume results in a spontaneous reboot. [Bug 593258] [NEW] calendar applet and user switch / logout applet are frequently cutoff and unusable
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel On my desktop, the calendar applet and/or the user switch/logout applet very often display only half of their widget area. For the calendar applet, this means that the time information is missing. For the user switch applet, this means that there is no logout button. In previous versions of Ubuntu, I also had problems with the panel: Frequently (but not always) the top and bottom panel were reverted after logging in. I had to call gnome-panel --replace in a console to reload the panel. This always fixed the issue. In Karmic there seems to be a patch for the reverted panels, because sometimes when logging in I can observe that the top and bottom panels are exchanged, but after a few seconds they automatically rearrange themselves to be on the right place again. gnome-panel --replace also fixes the cutoff applets. However, this is a new and very annoying bug, which is one of the sort which prevents non-power-users from using Ubuntu. How should I tell my friends Ubuntu is great, but occasionally you will not have an opportunity to logout anymore??? See the screenshot attached. This issue affects me as well. In fact once while writing this post :-/ Sometimes I am able to ssh into my machine to give it a graceful shutdown. Often I have to press the Reset button, which I hate. Even being able to open a ssh session does not necessarily mean that a shutdown -r now will work. I cannot find anything inside my system logs either. To complete the comments I've done yestarday, I don't know if it's a freeze or a crash (I don't know what is the right word ;-(( ). In fact the issue is that blinking colored lines appears on blank (black) screen and I can't do nothing to restore the system. The only solution I have is to reboot the PC !!! Moreover, The issue appears also when I was surfing on the web with firefox of the Lucid version. But in this case I can't reproduce the problem. It's unpredictable for me. I installed the linux-alsa-modules for my current version 2.6.32-22-generic, then the microphone and headphone jack worked (before only stereo output worked) i tried a lot of things, found on www with the effect that i had to reinstall ubuntu (10.4) On Alsamixer i have the Levelers for Headphone and Speakers, but Speakers does not react. When i lower Headphones the output of the whole system is lowered, same with PCM. What i could see: When i plug / unplug the headphones, it seems to activate / deactivate some of the speakers (its getting louder / silent) If you need further information, i could provide them.
