In further testing, I have found an Ubuntu 9.04 guest /does/ keep network connectivity. My guests which are failing seem to be Windows XP SP3. I've tried configurations with and without the virtio network driver but this does not seem to make any difference. I will post additional information as my debugging finds. Installing from the 20100803 ISO everything registers correctly. Looks like it's an issue in the preseeding that is done to automate your installs. Everything is working OK as far as the node autoregistration is concerned. I suspect the preseeding fails top deploy the CC key to the NC /var/lib/eucalyptus/.ssh/authorized_keys, please doublecheck that you can find your CC public key there after a fresh preseeded install. This was an all-in-one (CLC, CC, Walrus, and SC) install. All keys were correctly deployed via the eucalyptus udeb; after install I confirmed deployment of the keys. This does not seem to happen every time (twice in 6 installs), and sounds like some sort of race. After much searching, I found what looks like the same bug reported on RedHat : https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=580806 My set up is the same, bridged networking, XPSP3 (Pro). I am live migrating (migrate --live vmname qemu+ssh://server/system). The servers are AMD64 quad-core - hardware is identical in every way between them so I know there is no hardware variation or cpu variation which accounts for this. Forgot to also add that a reboot of the XP VM /does/ return networking to a working state - the reboot requires to be done via the VNC remote connection to the console and the windows shutdown/restart option. [Bug 399546] [NEW] Ubuntu does not retain folder share settings.
You have been subscribed to a public bug: there are only 2 accounts I use my ubuntu 9.04, Root to perform my admin duties and my other account JC. Now when I have went over much literature getting to try and work but this seems to be a bug to me.. this is the issue; In the /home folder i have one folder which is my 'jc' folder. under my 'jc' folder i have attempted to 'share' my Documents folder and my Videos/Pictures/Music folders by right clicking on the folder, selecting sharing options, then selecting and checking off share this folder and 'allow other people to write to this folder' and 'Guest access (for people without a user account). I have also edited the /etc/samba/smb.conf as has been discussed on the ubuntu forums only changing in the file the workgroup to the workgroup i run called The_Resistance. Now this is the bug.. after i set these settings, I reboot to ensure they are saved.. i come back into ubuntu desktop, go look at the folders I just shared to check their share settings and the allow other people to write in this folder is now NOT checked on any of the folders i shared. From an XP computer I can't view folders that have files in them, however, i can enter folders that are empty. if thru XP i enter a folder that has files in on the ubuntu side, network neighbourhood in xp gives me the hourglass and then says an error has occured and the volume is no longer available. From the ubuntu side, when I view files on the XP SP2 computer .. i can view the files but can't copy them or anythning.. I can just view the files in the directory. So basically I am unable to copy files back and forth between the two somewhat networked machines. I am able to view only empty folders in XP to Ubuntu and in Ubuntu to XP I can only see what's in the XP folders but nto copy them or view them when they are double clcked. The ubuntu system just stays stagnant. then I eventually have to close the window. you can email me at filivs_prodi...@rogers.com. Please fix this, I love this ubuntu.. i really do.. and your MO and not being a evil microsoft type company and your philosophy. Please tell me how to fix this if it isn't a bug and just a matter of settings between the the XP machine and the Ubuntu Machine.. Yes, execute bit is enough. While Nautilus in Gnome offers to set some permissions automatically for the shared folder, it does not set it for parent (home) folder. Somehow after a fresh install permissions for my home were drwx--. For newly created desktop users (after the installation), their home permissions were drwxr-xr-x. I have a question: doesnt setting X bit violate any privacy for me? The Lucid autoregistration discussions made it clear the CLC must be up before the Walrus can be registered, so everything is designed to have the CLC installed before (the Walrus downloads its seed from the CLC). Zash, thanks very much for reporting this bug and working with us to make Ubuntu better! Are you positive that you purged those packages, or did you just remove them? When mysql-server-5.1 is purged, it removes all of the databases, but the syslog grep shows mysql_upgrade running to bring the tables up to the latest version. My guess is that mysqld was somehow still running from the previous installation, possibly a bug in the maintainer scripts not able to shut down mysqld properly, and so it blocked the new mysqld from starting. Either way, I was unable to repeat this by installing 5.1.41-3ubuntu12 and then purging it, and then install 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.6. I also tried installing 5.1.41-3ubuntu12 and then upgrading. To be clear, please provide the answers to these questions: 1. What are the exact steps you took to reach this bug (commands used would be ideal, try using the 'history' command) 2. Did you choose a mysql root password when prompted? I works now! One possibility is that the old kernels 2.6.32-22 and 2.6.32-23 were removed. The current one (2.6.32-24) is here since 2010-07-27 (two days before the report) Maybe some old driver were still in use. I don't know. I think the log using '-vvv' is not useful now. Do you still want it?
