[Bug 322214] Re: php (via libedit using_history()) incorrectly opens stdin

2010-08-21 Thread Clint Byrum
While looking at this, I gave my test program a try on NetBSD 5.0.2, and
the terminal is handled correctly, so this may be specific to glibc
and/or linux terminal I/O.

[Bug 621639] [NEW] Please include sasl support into KVM

2010-08-21 Thread Christian Roessner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kvm

Hi all,

Please include sasl support into KVM.

--snip--
Hi Dustin,

sorry if I bother you, but could it be that kvm lacks sasl support for
the vnc flag? I checked the debian/control file and saw that sasl was
not included. Why? Without it, VNC only would work over x509, but there
are nearly no vnc viewers that support x509. So I consider this a lack
of security.

I enabled vnc with:

-vnc :1,sasl,acl

The acl_show vnc.username says: unknown list

Please, if this is a bug, can you rebuild kvm with sasl-support?

Hi Christian,

This may be an easy thing to fix, if the necessary build dependency is
in the Ubuntu main archive (rather than universe).

FWIW, qemu-kvm/configure suggests cyrus-sasl, which is in main.
So, like Dustin said, please file a bug and we should be able to
get that in lickity-split.

thanks,
-serge

I see several sasl-related packages in the archive... Specifically
which one are you requesting that we build qemu-kvm against?

Sorry it took me so long to find this email...ideally, you'd file this
as a wishlist bug against qemu-kvm in Launchpad.net, and I probably
would have gotten to it by now :-)

Thanks,

[Bug 584048] Re: kvm images losing connectivity w/bridged network

2010-08-21 Thread Santi Manninen
I think I'm having the same debilitating problem. Especially after
adding a fourth and fifth VM, packet loss would increase over time,
until the host and guests would become completely unreachable. I've
added keep-alive pings to all guests and the host, which seems to be
helping. Still, hasn't got completely rid of packet loss. Would be great
to have an update!

[Bug 621639] Re: Please include sasl support into KVM

2010-08-21 Thread Dustin Kirkland
Hi Christian, thanks for the bug report!

I think this looks like a reasonable request, but I have question...

Is this a new build-time dependency, or just a run time dependency?

ie, if you just 'sudo apt-get install qemu-kvm cyrus-sasl', and then run
with vnc/sasl, does it work?

If so, we can simply add a recommends on cyrus-sasl.

Or, does qemu-kvm need to be rebuilt with some additional sasl library?
If so, what is the exact library we need to compile against?

Thanks!
:-Dustin

As you can see, sasl will be easily included. I see it as a bug for

fear it is a feature for upcoming release ;-)

I simply got rid of the 'unix password sync' option in my smb.conf file
(I wasn't really using it anyway), and everything started working again.
Seems like any error in the Samba config is causing an exit code from
testparm that's throwing off the stack of scripts that controls starting
the process.

Nevermind, 5.1.49-1ubuntu6 has a syntax error in the profile as seen in
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/54065854/mysql-5.1_5.1.49-1ubuntu5_5.1.49-1ubuntu6.diff.gz.
I'll fix and upload.

[Bug 622010] Re: Error in AppArmor rule for mysqld

2010-08-21 Thread Jamie Strandboge
For people updating AppArmor profiles, you can test the syntax of an
apparmor profile by doing something like:

$ apparmor_parser -S ./debian/apparmor-profile /dev/null

If it comes back without error, the syntax is ok (though in the case of
usr.sbin.mysqld, if you don't have mysql-server-5.1 installed, you will
need to do 'sudo touch /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.sbin.mysqld' since the
profile includes that file).

[Bug 621583] [NEW] Typo in package description

2010-08-21 Thread Andrew Starr-Bochicchio
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: exaile

Argg... I just introduced a typo in the package description. The second
paragraph reads:

Originally conceived to be similar in style and function to KDE's
Amarok 1, Exaile use the GTK+ widget toolkit. It is written in
Python, utilizing the GStreamer media framework.

It of course should be:

Originally conceived to be similar in style and function to KDE's
Amarok 1, Exaile uses the GTK+ widget toolkit. It is written in
Python, utilizing the GStreamer media framework.

It doesn't warrant an upload by itself at this time, but needs to be fixed

[Bug 433355] Re: Down Arrow stops working when open a new terminal window

2010-08-21 Thread Fabio Marconi
hello Gerardo

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 619268] Re: Scanned document has three images

2010-08-21 Thread Kostas Oikonomou
I have downloaded the alpha 3 release of Ubuntu 10.10 (the desktop 64bit
one). Using a live CD I managed to download xsane. I scanned a document
with colour settings and I attach for you the result as colour
scanning. I also tried to scan in black white mode and saved the result
in a file. Unfortunately I cannot attach a second file. Though I saved
the result in my computer (on the hard disk). The black white result
does not differ very much from the colour one.

Thank you for your attention to me and your interest.

[Bug 587859] Re: ata1: device not ready (errno=-16), forcing hardreset

2010-08-21 Thread Ynot
I've hit this with a newly added disk to existing (and up until now,
rock solid) raid5 array

New disk
Western Digital 500GB PATA internal hard disk
Model# WD5000AAKB-00H8A0

Tried changing the jumper from CS, but no change

Writes to raid array that exceed approx. 500 KiB/s triggers the link is
slowhardreset messages 2-3 times per minute
(tested with fast download torrents, and playing with torrent client's throttle)

Reads from raid array that exceed approx. 2000 KiB/s triggers the link is
slowhardreset messages every couple of minutes
(tested with playing various bitrate media files from array)

Do any of the above, and
1) System iowait rises sharply to between 80 100% for approx 30 seconds
During that time, any processes using disk stall (and poss. timeout)

2) After that 30 second period message posted in syslog

3) lather, rinse, repeat

[Bug 621593] [NEW] Suspend to RAM Never Wakes Up

2010-08-21 Thread Brandon M
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acpi

My laptop will not wake from suspend mode. If I try to wake it up, the
fans spinup, but the LCD never turns back on, nor any HD activity. If I
hold down the power button to turn it off and then back on, it still

[Bug 620978] Re: Running dpkg message appears untranslated

2010-08-21 Thread Sebastian Heinlein
This seems to be a bug inside of python-apt. The attached test script
prints the untranslated status messages to the command line. I can
confirm that the strings are correctly translated in Synaptic which
directly accesses the c++ API.

[Bug 621595] [NEW] An empty window pops up with some worksheet modification related options

2010-08-21 Thread Janne Kiivisto
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I'm running Openoffice's Calc 3.2. in Xubuntu Lucid (10.4)

I tried to rename, add or copy/move a worksheet without success,
because after clicking the right mouse and choosing for instance
rename, an empty window pops up.

The change sheet's color and delete options, as well as other options
not related with sheets work fine so far. I also use the Writer module,
where I have not faced problems.

I think that the problem started as I updated Xubuntu to Lucid 10.4. I
have tried to install Openoffice again, but it did not help.

In Ubuntu's forum's question # 120750 I was advised to reset
Openoffice's settings and options by renaming the .openoffice.org folder
in my home directory, but it did not help either.

[Bug 621016] Re: Please merge radare 1:1.5.2-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2010-08-21 Thread SevenMachines
Thanks Stefano. Sorry, I missed feature freeze. Might not be justified
for an exception so i might try to fix a couple of bugs upstream and
maybe in the current package.

Strangely enough debian-changes-1:1.5.2-2ubuntu1 is auto-generated in
debian patches and not created by me, the original debian package comes
with debian/patches/debian-changes-1:1.5.2-2 too. I'm not sure where
they come from to be honest

[Bug 587859] Re: ata1: device not ready (errno=-16), forcing hardreset

2010-08-21 Thread Ynot
sorry for double post,
but see my original bug report (I marked it a dup of this one)
as there is a LKML thread with possible fix

Searching around, I came across this
 http://lkml.org/lkml/2010/3/9/345
(This is linux 2.6.34, but the errors look identical to me)

There's also a patch a few posts in from the above link

Quick look at the Lucid kernel git repo suggests this patch is not applied to
 the Lucid kernel
 http://kernel.ubuntu.com/git?p=ubuntu/ubuntu-lucid.git;a=blob_plain;f=drivers/ata/libata-sff.c;hb=HEAD
(I hope I'm looking in the right tree...?)

[Bug 621607] [NEW] compiz, artifacts in the panels

2010-08-21 Thread Dorian Nowak
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

While compiz is enabled, the screen shows artifacts. It is not
associated with the card or driver because a laptop (HP 6735s) with the
ATI HD3200 is exactly the same. The desktop computer I'm using GeForce
9800 GT, in both cases, the desktop effects off solves the problem,
below I put a link to an example of such an error. Sometimes it is much
worse when the top panel can only see half of the clock icon / Lan / off
switch. The problem is only with the panels. The windows behave
normally.
