[Bug 494141] Re: CUPS starts after SAMBA; printers are not available (convert cups to upstart)
The problem can very easily be solved for Maverick and Lucid LTS (SRU) by applying the solution presented in comment #18. This is especially the best method now as we are past Feature Freeze and so a switchover of CUPS to native Upstart is only possible for Natty. Especially important is also the SRU for Lucid, as LTS versions are preferably used for servers. So I am very grateful if the Samba maintainers could apply this simple patch. ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = Triaged ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu Lucid) Status: Invalid = Triaged ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu Lucid) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu) Milestone: None = ubuntu-10.10 ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu Lucid) Milestone: None = lucid-updates -- CUPS starts after SAMBA; printers are not available (convert cups to upstart) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/494141 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 631064] [NEW] connection forbidden on localhost after wireless connected
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: apache2 1) ubuntu locid (32 bit??) 2) 2.2.14-5ubuntu8 3) expected a valid response, not the forbidden page 4) got presented the forbidden page Details: I've restricted a location to be accessed from only the localhost (e.g. 'apache status'). After booting my laptop, this site is available through http://localhost/server-status; and the page as generated by this module is presented. After my laptop connects to my wireless network, communication trhough http://localhost/server-status; is blocked, with apache2 serving the page Forbidden.. You don't have permission to access /server-status on this server. Replacing localhost with the ip number 127.0.0.1 allows correct and normal access. I've also had this problem withour being in the neighborhood of my wireless network. After re-starting apache2 all access is as expected, using localhost to the restricted site is possible again. To me it looks like (but I'm not internally known to apache) the localhost interface got re-initiated, generating a new authorisation key while apache2 only holds an old key for the localhost before it got re-instantiated. This bug might be related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apache2/+bug/37054 but I got lost in that. This is reproducable by re-starting the laptop. This problem might not be that urgent because server machines only have wired and fixed ethernet cards that are already connected at boot time. [Bug 239906] Re: Dependency on libbsf-java is invalid
The fix does not seem to be in Ubuntu Lucid. Here is the list of package that aptitude want to install when adding 'groovy': antlr{a} groovy ivy{a} junit4{a} libantlr-java{a} libasm2-java{a} libbsf-java{a} libcommons-cli-java{a} libcommons-lang-java{a} libcommons-logging-java{a} libhamcrest-java{a} libjline-java{a} libmockobjects-java{a} libregexp-java{a} libservlet2.5-java{a} libxpp3-java{a} libxstream-java{a} libbasf-java is still in the list. And also many other packages (antlr, ivy, junit, libservlet2.5-java) which clearly should not be necessary to run Groovy script from the terminal. It looks like that the list of packages required for *building* Groovy has been copied to the binary package for the Groovy runtime. -- Dependency on libbsf-java is invalid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/239906 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to groovy in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 630660] [NEW] clock applet should not have tooltips
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel According to: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CustomStatusMenuDesignGuidelines - Status menus do not have tooltips. This is for consistency of behavior: most menus have never needed tooltips, so it is most consistent if all menus are designed to not need them, rather than some menus having them and some not. Additionally, the clock-applet shouldn't change background color on mouseover events. The other status menus do not. 1) Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 2) gnome-panel 1:2.30.2-0ubuntu0.2 3) Status menu/apps should not respond to mouseover events. 4) moving the cursor over the clock raises a tooltip Click to view your... and highlights the clock status applet. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- clock applet should not have tooltips https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/630660 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 630528] Re: Sync rygel 0.7.7-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)
Please sync rygel 0.7.7-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main) that should be experimental. I'd like to point out that 0.7 is a development series and that it would be wise to approve future 0.8.0 which will be released with Gnome 2.32. Other then that, I support this because there has been very many improvements since 0.6.0 which is currently in Maverick (and still the latest upstream stable release). I'll make sure to get 0.8.0 into debian experimetal so you can easily sync it as soon as it's released. PS. This also needs syncing of gupnp, gupnp-av and gupnp-dlna from debian experimental as well (these are stable upstream bugfix releases just uploaded to experimental because of the debian freeze). Possibly you also want to sync gupnp-vala. Even though it's not strictly necessary it's probably a smart idea to keep the vala bindings synced with the gupnp libraries it binds to avoid issues. (You already have vala 0.9.7 required by gupnp-vala, so that's one less issue to consider here.) -- Sync rygel 0.7.7-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/630528 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 625239] Re: Pressing Enter crashes both X and plymouth in graphical mode
what i've experienced: - on lucid i386 + x-swat, with no encryption: no issue at all about this problem - on maverick updated (i386 + x-swat + no encryption): system boot fine then login seem ok ( no crash when validating password) but later when i need to enter password again ( for example when asked by synaptic or any other app/service), at that time, validating this password (by pressing enter) drop me back to gdm login. Reentering password and validating it again work fine this time and dont crash till next reboot. [Bug 608278] Re: Don't run landscape-sysinfo if the load is high
This fix doesn't take into account multi-processor systems. I suggest that the system information be suppressed if the load average divided by the number of CPUs is greater than 1. As it stands right now landscape- sysinfo is disabled 100% of the time for my 8 core server, even though a load average of 1 would be considered low. I have attached a patch with my suggested change. I know that counting processors in /proc/cpuinfo isn't accurate when HyperThreading is being used, but I couldn't think of a simple and effective way to determine the number of real cores. So hopefully someone much smarter than me will come up with a snippet of bash to resolve the issue. ** Patch added: landscape-sysinfo.patch https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/landscape-client/+bug/608278/+attachment/1545193/+files/landscape-sysinfo.patch -- Don't run landscape-sysinfo if the load is high https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/608278 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 244480] Re: support AES-XTS mode
Don't know why you mention the random all before as is irrelevant for this issue, entire partition should be random filled with all cipher blocks. No, is not a XTS unique problem but is not a problem of using AES, the problem is in all XOR-Encryption(XE)-based tweakable block cipher like XTS. I opened a thread in the dm-crypt mailing list for this http://www.saout.de/pipermail/dm-crypt/2010-July/001042.html and be sure is the best place to talk about this, I think all the other places I have exposed the topic just nobody knows, in some of them no answer at all in others just FUD. For example all the people talks about disk size, if some talks about it, just run, he/she has no idea. The issue is just the amount of data, even with a 500 GB disk if you read/write a lot on it and your attacker can snapshot your drive, he/she can obtain more than 500 GB in some days. So, in this example is safer a 1TB disk where you just fill it but don't change regularly it's contents. So, don't be fooled, even with several TBs your personal data will be secure (note that if you have =2 TB you should use plain64 iv instead of plain, plain64 is only available in kernel =2.6.35 so lucid doesn't have it) and if you are a very big corporation that can have another corporation with a lot of processing resources as an attacker you shouldn't be asking here, just hire an expert. -- support AES-XTS mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/244480 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 630674] [NEW] Blank screen on fresh install for Vaio model vpccw21fx
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg This bug should affect all versions of Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10, but has been tested and confirmed with Ubuntu 10.04, UbuntuStudio 10.04, and UbuntuStudio 10.10 Beta. I expect to see a loading screen followed by a login screen after I select Ubuntu on the GRUB menu. Instead, I get a couple of text lines about either init or the kernel before the screen goes completely black. On a fresh install to a Vaio vpccw21fx, the computer screen goes completely blank. This happens before even the graphical loading screen, but just after a couple of lines of text appear just after GRUB hands control over to the boot process. From my research, the problem seems to be an issue with the newer nVidia cards on the latest line of Vaio systems. More specifically, there seems to be an issue with the EDID file being used. This issue affects my wife's vpccw21fx. My own vpcf115fm, which runs a different distribution, encountered a similar problem. The models are different enough such that the solution to one doesn't exactly port to the other, but the workaround for my system was to include the line Option CustomEDID DFP-0: /proc/acpi/video/NGFX/LCD/EDID into the Device section of my xorg.conf file. From what I've read, with the vpccw21fx, however, simply pointing it at proc won't work. An EDID file needs to be provided from elsewhere. Again, this is only a workaround to whatever the base problem is. Also, my own system worked fine with vesa, but encountered errors with nouveau and nvidia before the work-around. As Ubuntu is defaulting to nouveau for my wife's system, however, the system is a screenless black box upon loading Ubuntu. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Blank screen on fresh install for Vaio model vpccw21fx https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/630674 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
