[Bug 646694] [NEW] autofs does not stop when the system is halted

2010-09-24 Thread Daniel Lezcano
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: autofs

Ubuntu version:

Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release:10.04

Package version:

Architecture: amd64
Source: autofs5
Version: 5.0.4-3.1ubuntu5
Depends: autofs5

When the system halts, a signal is delivered to all the processes but automount
does not receive it.

The sendsigs init script will build a list of processes to be omitted when
sending a signal.
The omitted processes are the one not killed by the upstart jobs and the ones
defined in the /lib/init/rw/sendsigs.omit.d/, /var/run/sendsigs.omit.

automount is not killed by upstart because the 'stop' action is not
defined in /etc/init/autofs.conf, then it will belongs to the omitted
processes list and therefore won't be killed.

In the normal use case, this is not visible because the shutdown will happens
normally.
In the container context (lxc.sourceforge.net), it appears there are some
remaining processes while the system is halted.

IMO, this is not the right behavior, the automount should receive a
SIGTERM at shutdown time, this signal is catched and the daemon will do
a proper shutdown. I was wondering if the autofs.conf script shouldn't
have:

stop on runlevel [!2345]

Then the upstart job will deliver the sigterm signal to the process, and the
automount will do its shutdown job normally.
It is cleaner for the system, and make it works for the container.

[Bug 646706] [NEW] NWFilter support broken due to Apparmour restrictions

2010-09-24 Thread Soren Hansen
Public bug reported:

Somewhere in the code path to instantiate nwfilters, libvirt fetches the
relevant network interface's index. This is done through a ioctl on a a
socket fd. This socket fd is created with socket(PF_SOCKET, SOCK_DGRAM,
0). Apparmour blocks this socket() call. According to netdevice(7):

Linux supports some standard ioctls to configure network devices.
They can be used on any socket's file descriptor regardless of the family or
type.

Changing PF_SOCKET to PF_INET works as expected. However, given how
close we are to release, I'm not super comfortable making this change,
so I'm proposing we add network socket dgram to
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.libvirtd instead and revisit this for natty.

Comments?

Thanks for the information that you provided in your last few comments.

Looking at the output of the commands in #3, it looks like your computer

If you have a firewall running on your computer this could be blocking

Please could you run the following command and attach the output to this

I'm not opposed to changing /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.libvirtd at all

2010-09-24 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Adding this to /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.libvirtd is fine:
  network packet dgram,

libvirtd is not intended to be confined an any way (except it is forced
to use virt-aa-helper instead of manipulated AppArmor directly). Adding
the above is pure bugfix and does not diminish the intended security
stance in any way. Please feel free to commit.

[Bug 579584] Re: setgid, setuid needed by /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/libvirt-qemu

2010-09-24 Thread Jamie Strandboge
This recently came up on the libvirt mailing list:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/libvir-list/2010-September/msg00406.html

It appears that libvirt is aa_change_profile()ing before the DAC
security driver can do its business. It seems that the ordering of the
stacked security driver is wrong and that DAC driver should (always) go
first, then the MAC (eg AppApparmor/SELinux) should come after. Before
we push something to Lucid, I'd like to see upstream consensus on the
fix (especially since we may want to change Maverick).

[Bug 646858] [NEW] dovecot-postfix and upstart incompatibility

2010-09-24 Thread Yan Grunenberger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dovecot-postfix

Dovecot on Maverick is now using upstart to launch dovecot. When
dovecot-postfix is installed, the dovecot must have some component as
root (for SASL authentification purpose, in order to write to postfix
chroot). Problem is, the system can start dovecot on boot, but any
attempt into using restart dovecot will result in a hang of upstart.
CTRL+C can cancel it, but then dovecot is in a strange state, with half
the processus presents in memory. This is not the correct behavior, as
we except a smooth restart of such an important service of the mail
(especially if SASL authentification of postfix is involved).

As a workaround, I replace the symlink to upstart by the old init.d original
script from ubuntu 10.04.1.
I try to figure out a clean solution, but apparently this is inherent to
upstart and explains why some package, such as apache, did not go on the
upstart train already.

Yeah, I found this behavior on in my test machine (where I'm
running Lucid), too.

Based on the discussion earlier in this bug (423252), I did some
testing of the behavior of atd with various combinations of
libpam/nss-ldap, nscd, and libpam/nss-ldapd.

As greenmoss found, when I was running with libpam/nss-ldap and
no nscd (and didn't have any of the users in question listed in
the ignoreusers line), my at commands worked for LDAP users
but not for ones defined in /etc/passwd. (When an LDAP user
attempted to run an at command, the following syslog message
would appear:
atd[PID]: Cannot delete saved userids: Operation not permitted

However, I found that when nscd was running... the situation was
reversed: at commands did work for LDAP-defined users, but not
for /etc/passwd-defined ones (and attempts to use at as one of
those users would cause the same error message as above to show
up in the syslog).

When I had libpam/nss-ldapd installed (with or without nscd),
the at command worked fine for both types of users.

jobs. To work around this, I added the following line to my
 /etc/ldap.conf:

 nss_initgroups_ignoreusers users

where users is the list of local non-ldap users, particularly root!

In the libpam/nss-ldap, no nscd case, this also worked in my
tests; listing the /etc/passwd-defined user in the ignoreusers
line did allow at to work for that user (and it continued to
work for the LDAP-defined user as well).

Interestingly, this change did NOT help in the libpam/nss-ldap,
with nscd case -- even with LDAP username listed in the
ignoreusers line, when I tried to run at as the LDAP-defined
user, the command still failed and atd still generated the
same syslog error message

(libpam/nss-ldapd does not reference the /etc/ldapd.conf file,
so the ignoreusers line doesn't affect that test case.)

[For what it's worth, I tested cron using those same
combinations of NSS/PAM resolution libraries but didn't find any
situation where it failed...]

I'm sorry, I seem to have managed to jumble the succeeded/failed

Hopefully the following table is more clear:

  LDAP user: succeeded

with ncsd running (and after restarting the atd service):
  passwd user: succeeded
LDAP user: failed (with same Cannot delete syslog message)

2010-09-24 Thread SuperCyborg
Ok, found a fix... I don't think it's particularly elegant (reminds me
of Windows), but it seems to have worked...

According to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apache2/+bug/576255, I tried
what serggt1 (post #6) suggested. For me, it complained about the
upwards dependency of the PHP5 mod:

xx/$ sudo dpkg --purge --force-remove-reinstreq apache2.2-common
dpkg: dependency problems prevent removal of apache2.2-common:
 libapache2-mod-php5 depends on apache2.2-common; however:
Package apache2.2-common is to be removed.
dpkg: error processing apache2.2-common (--purge):
 dependency problems - not removing
Errors were encountered while processing:
 apache2.2-common

Uninstalled PHP5 completelely and then tried the dpkg --purge --force-
remove-reinstreq apache2.2-common again. No complaints this time.

Then reinstalled apache2.2-common and then PHP5.

Looks like everything is OK now.

Just a follow-up...

This actually does work, and since qemu seems to unlink() right after
the mkstemp() there's only a small race condition there, and after that
the only way to steal another VMs memory is via procfs.

Is it worth writing a small doc (or debconf option?) to help people
setup hugetlbfs with libvirt?

close gwibber, delete the gwibber authorization from facebook, then, (if

system-administration-system monitor, processes tab, sort by name, and
kill everything that starts with gwibber), open gwibber again, and now
 it MAY work

one last thing: i started to notice this problem, when i connected my
facebook account with a gwibber on another ubuntu machine (lucid, while my
main is a maverick)... can someone confirm that this may be (one of) the
 cause(s)?

unfortunately i'm unable to confirm my workaround on this second machine

after doing a system update this morning, Facebook now works on my

I would characterise the behaviour of the mouse as stick. Once the

The new driver seems peppier, but has many similar problems as the

[Bug 647212] [NEW] purchased software download fails with and breaks apt proxy

2010-09-24 Thread Kamal Mostafa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

I used Software Center - Get Software - For Purchase and bought Ricks
Wallpapers for $1.00 USD. The purchase process went fine, but the
install failed, and has now left my apt cache in a bad state.

After the purchase process, Software Center spun its wheels for a very
long time (several minutes) until finally a popup error window delivered
this error:

W: Failed to fetch https://private-ppa.launchpad.net/commercial-ppa-uploaders/ri
cks-wallpaper/ubuntu/dists/maverick/main/binary-amd64/Packages.gz Proxy CONNECT
 aborted
E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used
 instead.

'sudo apt-get update' also fails with the same error message.

The problem apparently occurs because of my apt-cache-ng proxy setup (which
works fine otherwise). I have a one line file /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/01proxy:
   Acquire::http { Proxy http://my.proxy.host:3142;; };

If I disable my apt proxy by commenting out the Acquire line, then I am
able to install Ricks Wallpapers from Software Center. And 'apt-get
update' then yields only Ign https://...ricks-wallpaper...; (no error).
But then even after having successfully installed the package, re-
enabling my proxy Acquire line causes 'apt-get update' to fail with the
same error above.

[Bug 647218] [NEW] Maveric: when streaming sound over network the progress bar doesn't update

2010-09-24 Thread Maxim Levitsky
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

Steps to reproduce:

Connect a system to remote PA.
Open a sound file in totem or rhythmbox, and see that progress indicator stays
at 00:00.
Sound does play though, and it is possible to seek, but then progress indicator
still stands at new location.
Of course pause/play resets the sound to start...

This happens with 10.10 on both ends.

2010-09-24 Thread Brian Murray
*** This is an automated message ***

This bug is tagged needs-packaging which identifies it as a request for
a new package in Ubuntu. As a part of the managing needs-packaging bug
reports specification,
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/Specs/NeedsPackagingBugs, all needs-
packaging bug reports have Wishlist importance. Subsequently, I'm
setting this bug's status to Wishlist.
