[Bug 696774] Re: package bacula-director-mysql 5.0.1-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-01-06 Thread James Page
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

It would appear that the mysql-server package has not been installed
prior to installing bacula (as described in the configuration screens
during bacula setup).

Please could you confirm whether this is the case; if mysql-server is
not installed then install this package first and then re-install
bacula.

Thanks

[Bug 693372] Re: Error starting nagios3

2011-01-06 Thread Andy Jackson
WORKAROUND: As this appears to be happening during the update check
(http://nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/3_0/configmain.html#check_for_updates),
I switched it off on nagios.cfg

check_for_updates=0

After this, I restarted, and it all works fine again (although I get a
warning about update checks on the front page).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This looks like a potential bug/configuration problem with the IP setup
of your Ubuntu installation; :::192.168.1.4 is a ipv4 address that
has been mapped to the ipv6 address space.

Please could your provide more information about your networking setup;
specifically any ipv6 related configuration you may have.

Thanks

[Bug 695697] Re: libvirt not working properly with overlays

2011-01-06 Thread James Page
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I think that the issue may be that virt-install is specifying the disk
format incorrectly.

Assuming that you are using qcow2 format, virt-install is incorrectly
specifying the overlay file as 'raw':

   file=/VMs/Windows7DomainTest.ovl,if=none,id=drive-
ide0-0-0,boot=on,format=raw

This would stop the detection of the base disk image supporting the
overlay which would make it look like the disk is not there.

Please could you try using the --disk option instead of -f to specify
the file to support the VM:

  --disk path=/VMs/Domainator.ovl,format=qcow2

Please could you also check which version of virtinst you are using - a
specific change was made under bug 655392 to help resolve this issue.

not reconnected these computers and am not concerned about them being

The maverick based uec images use pv-grub to boot on EC2 and a similar

An instance will boot using a command line like 'LABEL=uec-rootfs'

euca-bundle-vol does not create the target filesystem with the same

[Bug 696685] Re: infinite pending instances using eucalyptus on vmware-player

2011-01-06 Thread Scott Moser
There are general issues with running all-in-one setup in 10.04.

Additionally, I suspect that eucalyptus-nc is not running or operating
correctly as you wont' have kvm support in your vmware guest. At very
least you will have to configure the NC to run with qemu (non-
accelerated).

Also, the attached 'nc.log' shows:

[Bug 698210] Re: package tomcat6 6.0.28-2ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-01-06 Thread Scott Moser
I suspect that the user specified a 'tomcat6/javaopts' with a '/' in it.
This is fix-released in natty.

To backport, the change would be to debian/tomcat6.postinst:

- | sed s/^TOMCAT6_USER=.*$/TOMCAT6_USER=$TOMCAT6_USER/ \
- | sed s/^TOMCAT6_GROUP=.*$/TOMCAT6_GROUP=$TOMCAT6_GROUP/ \
- | sed s/^JAVA_OPTS=.*$/JAVA_OPTS=\$JAVA_OPTS\/ \
+ | sed s%^TOMCAT6_USER=.*$%TOMCAT6_USER=$TOMCAT6_USER% \
+ | sed s%^TOMCAT6_GROUP=.*$%TOMCAT6_GROUP=$TOMCAT6_GROUP% \
+ | sed s%^JAVA_OPTS=.*$%JAVA_OPTS=\$JAVA_OPTS\% \

That said, you'd just then have a problem if you had a '%' in the
JAVA_OPTS variable.

[Bug 697609] Re: rndc-confgen does nothing

2011-01-06 Thread Scott Moser
I suspect that it is waiting on /dev/random to provide it with data, and
that:

rndc-confgen -b 256 -c /etc/named/rndc.key -r /dev/urandom

would give you a result quickly.

I'm marking this 'Triaged' as I agree with the suggestion of a message
stating its waiting on random data.

Re: [Bug 640100] Re: Maverick fails to wake up on Samsung N150

In my case I am using samsung tools

wrote:

With the the 2.6.35-24 kernel I could not control backlight brightness
using the samsung tools (Fn-Up/Fn-Down) at all. I had to add a further
kernel parameter : acpi_backlight=vendor . With that the control works
again, but when the backlight level is changed by the system (for power
saving) the brightness indicator applet goes into a loop until
interrupted by clicking an item on the main menu bar (Applications for
 example).

However I removed intel_idle.max_cstate=0 from the kernel boot
parameters and the problem stills occurs, so I'm not sure the
brightness phenomenon is related to these parameters.

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

 Bug description:
Recently upgraded from 10.04LTS to 10.10 Beta on a Samsung N150 NetBook.
Since update, my netbook does not resume from suspend state after lid is
opened. Power, disk, and wireless activity lights turn on, but screen does
not wake up. I cannot ssh into the netbook from a remote host so I do not
think that the network is resuming even though the wireless light indicates
that the card is on. I have to power off/on the netbook once it is hung in
 this state.

I've examined /var/log/messages after power cycling but I don't see any
relevant errors. I would be happy to submit applicable logs or provide more
information if someone could point me in the right direction.

 Thanks!

I just experienced this on Maverick 10.10 (after upgrades from previous

However when I did

There was no problems. The purge command removed /var/lib/ntop. So the
install after that did not run into directory-exists problem.

[Bug 697999] [NEW] lirc init script seems to load things backwards

2011-01-06 Thread Joel Ebel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lirc

The lirc manual describes how to load multiple devices here:
http://www.lirc.org/html/configure.html#multiple

Assuming that the primary device get started on lircd and the secondary
device gets started on lircd1:

In short the proper method is to start lircd1 with --listen, and then
lircd with --connect

The lircd init script does this backwards, lircd with --listen, and then
lircd1 with --connect.

The result is that only the primary device is visible on lircd. Both
devices are visible on lircd1, however, most applications will require
additional configuration in order to communicate with both devices.

[Bug 495423] Re: update to grub-pc writes MBR without checks, prompt or backup

2011-01-06 Thread Christian Bejram
Hello,

This very same issue affected me January 1st 2011.

My setup is:
 - a laptop with HDA encrypted using SafeBoot (require a SafeBoot MBR to work)
 - Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64-bit version on an external USB disk (this becomes
HDB/SDB)
Selecting using BIOS boot menu whether to boot using internal disk or
external disk. (this works very well)

On January 1st I received an system update of grub-pc (and other packages),
accepted and installed all of them.
After the system update it was no longer possible to boot on the internal HD.
Discovered that grub-pc update had trashed the MBR of the internal HD.

Had to do a SafeBoot MBR recovery (which is a bit cumbersome) to get the
system back to normal again.

To me grub/grub2/grub-pc is viral, it should not overwrite and destroy
the MBR without asking.

[Bug 580112] Re: gnome-disk-utility doesn't detect SMART data on T60p

2011-01-06 Thread Martin Pitt
Can you please send the output of

  udisks --show-info /dev/sda

in particular the SMART bits? If that says unknown, can you please try

  udisks --ata-smart-refresh

then wait some seconds, and use --show-info again?

If it still says unknown, but has smart data, please do

  sudo skdump --save=/tmp/smart.blob /dev/sda

and attach /tmp/smart.blob here.

Thanks!

[Bug 138682] Re: ntop permissions are not set right during install

2011-01-06 Thread Jarl
OK. I can see that I need to be a bit more specific. What I just experienced on
Maverick is exactly what MarcRandolph wrote on 2008-11-08:
Installing ntop (sudo apt-get install ntop) on a machine (10.10 Maverick) where
ntop have never been installed before gives messages like
Warning: The home dir /var/lib/ntop you specified already exists.

and

The home directory `/var/lib/ntop' already exists. Not copying from `/etc/skel'.
adduser: Warning: The home directory `/var/lib/ntop' does not belong to the
user you are currently creating.

However when tried to reproduce it with
sudo apt-get purge ntop
sudo apt-get install ntop
There was no problems.

Re: [Bug 558581] Re: Indicator-applet forcibly overrides Super+m key combo

2011-01-06 Thread matsonfamily
Alex Beels,

Thanks for the walkthrough; I'm going to try it this weekend! :)

- david matson

On 01/05/2011 06:22 AM, Alex Beels wrote:
 @matsonfamily: To replace indicator-applet with indicator-applet-
 complete:,

 1) Install indicator-applet-complete.
 2) Remove both indicator-applet (the mail icon) and indicator-session (the
on-off button) from the gnome panel.
(Right click on icon, and choose Remove From Panel from the menu.)
 3) Add indicator-applet-complete to the gnome panel.
(Right click on panel background, and choose Add to Panel... from the
 menu.)

The important part is to prevent indicator-applet from running in your
session. There is no need to remove it from your machine.

If you do not remove indicator-session from your session, you will end
up with two on-off buttons on your panel, which won't kill you.
However, I don't remember what happens to the conflicting Super+s
shortcut if you leave indicator-session running. (I have since gotten
so frustrated with the whole indicator-* family that I have removed them
entirely. I just use the old fashioned logout menu and volume controls
now, and I am much happier. Maybe the next step is to get rid of the
 rest of Gnome...)

I did not test running /usr/bin/gtk-window-decorator by hand after
indicator-applet to see if it would steal back the key bindings. I just
observed inconsistent behavior with the bindings and looked at the
position of indicator in the execution order in each case. Perhaps
there is something deeper going on than simply execution order.

PostgreSQL 9.0 has the psql option --no-password/-w, which is what you
want to use. It should be OK to also use this in older versions because
they will just fail and print nothing, which is no worse than the

[Bug 696774] Re: package bacula-director-mysql 5.0.1-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-01-06 Thread James Page
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

It would appear that the mysql-server package has not been installed
prior to installing bacula (as described in the configuration screens
during bacula setup).

Please could you confirm whether this is the case; if mysql-server is
not installed then install this package first and then re-install
bacula.

[Bug 380126] Re: [Karmic] Touchpad not recognised correctly, synaptics driver not in use

2011-01-06 Thread diroots
Hello you all

This post to tell that I tested the patch yesterday.
Good news! now I have a fully fonctionnal synaptics touchpad on my Vostro V13

I applied the patch on a 2.6.32 kernel
I am using Linux Mint LMDE, debian based on testing branch.

Now my synaptics touchpad is well recognized on gpointing-device-
settings, and all options seems to work (horizontal, vertical and circle
scrolling, lock of the pad when typing on the keyboard, ...)

I followed this tutorial (in french, sorry) :
http://ashgenesis.developpez.com/linux/kernel-debian/

so to give a summary of what I did, for other to test :
I modified my /etc/apt/source.list to include sources :
deb-src http://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian testing main contrib non-free

then I download linux-source-2.6.32

I followed first steps, ie :
cd /usr/src
debian:/usr/src# tar -xvjf linux-source-2.6.32.tar.bz2
debian:/usr/src# ln -s linux-source-2.6.32 linux
debian:/usr/src# cp /boot/config-‘uname -r‘ /usr/src/linux/.config

then I downloaded the above patch in the /usr/src directory, named it v13.patch
and applied it :
debian:/usr/src#cd linux
debian:/usr/src/linux#patch -p1 ../V13.patch

once applied, i launched last line of the tutorial to build the kernel (debian
style) :
debian:/usr/src/linux#make-kpkg --append-to-version -v13 --initrd
buildpackage --config menuconfig

this last line generated a .deb I installed :
debian:/usr/src/linux#dpkg -i
../linux-image-2.6.32-flo_2.6.32-v13-10.00.Custom_i386.deb

After a reboot, with no xorg.conf specific config file on /etc/X11, with
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics installed, my synaptics touchpad now works
on my Vostro V13.

Many thanks to the author of the patch!
Very happy to get back a fully functionnal touchpad on my V13

(hoping this will be included in future kernel releases)

and btw,... Happy new year!!

[Bug 294648] Re: svn over https with client certificates broken (regression in intrepid)

2011-01-06 Thread Joe Orton
Ignore the contortions of the neon packaging in Debian/Ubuntu.
libneon-gnutls.so.x is an invention of Debian, who weirdly persist in
shipping two builds of neon. The Fedora neon (libneon.so.x) is built
against GnuTLS.

If anybody can show me SSL sites which fail with neon 0.29.5 please
speak up. If you are seeing failures with a 0.29.3 build which doesn't
have Bryan Cain's patch applied, that is expected. Upgrade to 0.29.5.

idea of free stuff but this site is for real, you just have to send
them back a review and then you can keep it.

[Bug 698008] [NEW] Relative font sizes/weights not possible in gtkrc

2011-01-06 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Public bug reported:

[This is copied from https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=325767
so that it can be linked to a blueprint.]

Currently the font_name field in the gtkrc file is the only way to
change fonts and it only allows an absolute change. If a user wants to
use a smaller font for certain widgets or if an application tries to
provide a gtkrc file that results in a more compact dialog layout, it
would be a lot nicer if the font could be specified relative to the
desktop-wide configured font. This missing feature leads for example to
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=325324.

[Bug 698007] [NEW] lirc init script can create circular symlinks

2011-01-06 Thread Joel Ebel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lirc

This is related to bug 697999 and specifically my need to work around
that bug.

If, in /etc/lirc/hardware.conf, you set REMOTE_SOCKET to /dev/lircd1 and
transmitter_socket to /dev/lircd, then the lirc init script will create
a circular symlink loop between /dev/lircd and /dev/lircd1. The script
tests if OLD_SOCKET != REMOTE_SOCKET, but it should also make sure that
OLD_SOCKET != TRANSMITTER_SOCKET  Additionally, before removing
${OLD_SOCKET}1 the script should do the same checks, which it currently
does none.

A patch for this solution is attached.

My preference would actually to be to use the new socket locations in
/var/run/lircd, however, then the the order I create those sockets is
irrelevant, as the magical symlinking always symlinks /dev/lircd to the
remote and /dev/lircd1 to the transmitter, which is backwards from how I
need it to be. I'm not actually sure what the best fix is here.
Perhaps it could just test if the socket is /var/run/lirc/lircd\d+ and
if it is, then just symlink to /dev/$(basename $REMOTE_SOCKET) If this
is an acceptable solution, I can probably write up a patch for this
behavior if necessary. However, there may be other cases the current
behavior is designed to correct for. If bug 697999 gets fixed, then
this problem will no longer affect me.

[Bug 638585] Re: package bacula-director-mysql 5.0.1-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-01-06 Thread James Page
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

It would appear that the mysql-server package has not been installed
prior to installing bacula (as described in the configuration screens
during bacula setup).

Please could you confirm whether this is the case; if mysql-server is
not installed then install this package first and then re-install
bacula.

Thanks

[Bug 698010] [NEW] Importing photos from 2011 does not work.

2011-01-06 Thread Cirion
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: shotwell

Shotwell does import my 2011 photos to the Pictures folder, and they get
sorted by year and date, but they do not show up in shotwell.

I have tried deleting the database, moving the folder, then restart
shotwell and do a new import. All photos from 1999 - 2010 show up, just
not the 2011 photos.

I'm running Shotwell 0.8.0
