[Bug 644067] Re: vmware workstation menus do not shows

2011-01-24 Thread David Barth
To test that under Natty, you need to use the -k option (--no-kiosk-
warning).

Using:

UBUNTU_MENUPROXY= vmplayer -k

one can see the menus that are absent of the global menubar.

It sounds like yet another example of dynamic menus causing appmenu-gtk
some trouble when trying to convert items on the fly into dbusmenu
properties.

removed qemu-kvm, isntalled it back and same versions as above are on

 something is wrong.

Right, it's because you have the proposed pocket in your sources.list.
I've uploaded a new version to my ppa which will supersede the one in
-proposed. The last 3 builds have been pretty speedy, so hopefully this
will be available within the hour. After that,

apt-get update apt-get dist-upgrade

should install qemu-kvm version 0.12.5+noroms-0ubuntu7.1virtio2.diff.

Sorry about that.

[Bug 621265] Re: Slow Wireless Connection in Intel 3945abg

2011-01-24 Thread Stefan Bader
In the linked Redhat bugzilla Stanislaw is asking for a test run with
three patches. Just to be sure (maybe it is mentioned somewhere but I
have slight problems to read through all the comments): the test kernel
that is used, does that contain all three of them? If not it would be
good to have testing there is to put down the results in at least the
Redhat bugzilla.

Generally about network manager: that may just use certain functionality
that is not used without. For example (likely unrelated to this issue)
it does scans, even while connected, to update the list of access
points.

Apologies, I had forgotten about /lib/udev/rules.d.
I have removed 52-nut-usbups.rules from /etc/udev/rules.d and it still
works (see log below). There must have been some other configuration problem
initially. I have marked this bug as invalid.

quite probably the udevadm trigger line that isn't sufficient to refresh
privileges for already plugged devices.
This won't be noticed if the device's USB cord is plugged after NUT
installation, or if there is a reboot somewhere in the process...

[Bug 580961] Re: unzip fails to deal correctly with filename encodings

2011-01-24 Thread frol
Shimi Chen: I'm not sure, but 7zip may save file names in archives
(including zip) in UTF-16 charset. unzip from ppa:frol/zip-i18n
translates file names from OEM-charset which is applied by default in
Windows for your language (probably not UTF-16, language is determined
by your current locale), to charset of your current locale.

You may need to process such files with p7zip or p7zip-full in ubuntu.

[Bug 486747] Re: [Usability] Ubuntu MenuBar applet to have an option to show icons instead of text

2011-01-24 Thread Charlie Kravetz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be
reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the
development release - Natty Narwhal. It would help us greatly if you
could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next
release of Ubuntu.

With Natty Narwhal moving to Unity, and the changes to the desktop, we
would like to know if this is still an issue. Natty is using icons
instead of text.

You can find out more about the development release at
http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your
help.

[Bug 703988] Re: vim.gnome crashed with SIGSEGV in g_atomic_int_exchange_and_add()

2011-01-24 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
No it happens with the default configuration too (no ~/.vimrc)
The only file in ~/.vim is a file named .netrwhist and there is also the file
.viminfo in $HOME
So nothing fantastic.

The only steps to reproduce are:
- From the command line run:
  $ gvim some_file
- Wait until it crashes (usually less then a minute)

I can reproduce it on 2 different system (a netbook and a laptop) with
an up to date Natty.

I'm sorry for this poor report, let me know if and how I can gather more
useful informations.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: vim

- This is the first time I see gvim crashing this way.
+ gvim crashes randomly, with no specific action from the user and no
+ specific configuration.

- I was selecting some text with the mouse at the time of the crash.
+ Test Case
+ - Open a terminal and run:
+ $ gvim some_file
+ - Wait until it crashes (usually less then a minute)

- This is reproducible and it crashes randomly even when doing nothing,
- just waiting.
+ Result:
+ $ Vim: Caught deadly signal SEGV
+ Vim: Finished.
+
+ I can reproduce it on 2 different system (a netbook and a laptop) with
+ an up to date Natty.

[Bug 670181] Re: Dell Precision M6300 SD Card Reader (Ricoh R5C592 memory stick) Will Not Mount After Upgrade To 10.10

I have the same problem but I only found out today as that was the first
time I was trying to use this slot on my Dell Latitude E6500 I'll attach
the dmesg | egrep 'sdhci|mmc' as a file.

For the record: dell latitude e6500 has been nothing but trouble for me
in combination with Ubuntu and other Linux versions. This includes but
is not limited to spurious WiFi problems (still no new firmware, despite
promises by Dell,) suspend-resume failing every few times, the laptop
spontaneously waking from power-off with the lid closed, etc. etc. etc.

[Bug 642907] Re: failed to open VA API

2011-01-24 Thread Dave Lentz
After you install the libva(-dev) from Splitted Desktop Systems (SDS), you have
to rebuild VLC to get it working. I've created a PPA where this is already
done: https://launchpad.net/~dtl131/+archive/catalysthacks
Currently, this PPA only has packages for Maverick. I will do Natty uploads
when Natty gets closer to release. Note that the libva found in my PPA is
actually the 0.31.x versions found on the SDS site. I simply reversioned it to
supersede the default libva version number.

[Bug 700505] Re: Update anjuta to 2.91.x release

2011-01-24 Thread Johannes Schmid
No, non of the other GNOME3 modules should be required. As I said, if
the new gnome-terminal is installed we might inherit some of it's
settings but if it isn't there it won't matter.

Anjuta3 isn't very useful without the new glade3 (and as such the glade
plugin available) because all the tutorial that will soon show up on
developer.gnome.org assume that you have Anjuta3 with glade enabled.
Devhelp would be nice but isn't super important.

Re: [Bug 635703] Re: No sound from virtual machines

2011-01-24 Thread Serge Hallyn
Quoting David Ayers (ay...@fsfe.org):
 Hello Serge,

I can confirm that adding a SDL graphics device in the VM configuration
and removing the vnc device I was able to hear the sound.

Thanks.

So if virt-manager disables sound in its VNC device due to security
issues and SDL only works locally, then there is currently no support
for remote sound. It seems that upstream virt-manager has added support
for spice: http://virt-manager.et.redhat.com/download.html but since I
have not seen any spice packages in either ubuntu or debian, I fear it
will take the order of a few years before those features will hit an LTS
 release, which is rather unfortunate.

Yup, spice is very new but very actively developed upstream, so I expect
it to be in the next (12.04) LTS.

Unfortunately those patches are too new to be in any qemu-kvm upstream release,
so they are unlikely to be in 11.04 (which is not an LTS). As soon as upstream
pushes its next release, I will merge that, including spice support.

BTW: closing the SDL window will turn the VM off hard. Is that expected
behavior or should that be reported as a bug?

Yes, that is expected. You can use the -no-quit option to disable
closing the SDL window, but closing and re-opening it is not supported.
