[Bug 642577] Re: Menu text in OpenOffice are obscured in Maverick

2011-02-13 Thread shankhs
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed
in the latest development version of Ubuntu - Maverick Meerkat

This is a significant bug in Ubuntu. If you need a fix for the bug in
previous versions of Ubuntu, please do steps 1 and 2 of the SRU
Procedure [1] to bring the need to a developer's attention.

I don't know, sorry.

FWIW, we have been thinking of making python-fixtures a full dependency,

[Bug 718215] [NEW] gedit crash on save as

2011-02-13 Thread matteo sisti sette
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

I opened gedit
I started writing a new file
I did File/Save As
I browsed to a folder and wrote a file name
I clicked Save

== CRASH, and all the contents of the file lost.

I know this is difficult to diagnose without more information: I cannot
reproduce it systematically, it just happened once; it usually saves
without issues. Anyay, there mst be some log file where I can find a
crash dump or something, only I don't know where to look for it. Please
let me know so I can post it.

2011-02-13 Thread Charlie Kravetz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error caused by a corrupted
archive. Please execute the following commands, as it will clear your
package cache, in a terminal ( Applications - Accessories - Terminal )
:

sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue. If so please set the bug's status to Invalid. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 717445] Re: grub2 in lucid doesn't work in qemu with '-vga std'

2011-02-13 Thread Anthony Liguori
Removing 'insmod gfxterm' and 'insmod vbe' let's the guest boot up.

The full output of the error message is:

  error: no suitable mode found.
  error: unknown command `terminal'.
  out of range pointer 0x8022
Aborted: Press any key to exit.

The first error is from video/video.c:grub_video_set_mode(). This
function is presumably triggered from `insmod gfxmenu'. For whatever
reason, grub is unable to find a working mode when using the standard
VGA driver in QEMU.

I tried changing the default 640x480 mode to 800x600 but that didn't
help.

crashed my video driver by giving me a memory allocation conflict error.

The patch you sent was a RC4 untested, how can you end an untested patch to
anyone??? Do you work for Microsoft???
I am on my third week trying to resolved this particular issue. It would of
take me 20 minutes to install Windows 7 in my system and get it up and working.

Please stop taking wild guesses and research the issue.

[Bug 275074] Re: Job does not get past authentication

2011-02-13 Thread Pascal De Vuyst
This is an old bug, Intrepid is no longer supported.
There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and
your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a
lot if you could test in Ubuntu 10.04 or higher. If it is still an issue, we
would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect

[Bug 695283] Re: GParted resets label after partition resizing

2011-02-13 Thread Curtis Gedak
It would appear that something went wrong in the resizing process. If
you happened to save the gparted_details.htm log file then we might
glean a clue as to what happened.

The images you attached indicate that the file system is FAT32, so I am
not surprised that the e2label command failed. e2label is for
ext2/ext3/ext4 file systems only.

Do you have a Windows computer available to you?
If so it would be good to run Windows chkdsk on the file system.

If you do not have Windows available then you might try the same command
that gparted uses to repair FAT32 file systems:

 sudo dosfsck -a -w -v /dev/sdb1

Where /dev/sdb1 is the device path to the FAT32 file system you wish to
repair.

[Bug 580295] Re: Alt-F2 not working

2011-02-13 Thread Ingo Gerth
This definitely is a problem that needs to be solved. But I am
wondering: Why go through all the trouble and introduce a new program
when the perfect solution is already there?

In unity we already have a wonderful application launcher: The
applications lense in the dash. Would linking Alt-F2 to this lense not
serve exactly the same purpose while avoiding an extra program?

There might be some adjustments necessary, but these seem only minor.
There already is instant searching for example. The only thing I can
think of is easy keyboard navigation through the proposed applications
and launching the program by pressing the return key.

[Bug 696119] Re: vrms reports an incorrect package name

2011-02-13 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for reporting this issue and making Ubuntu better!

I was able to reproduce this bug in Ubuntu Natty by running vrms with
virtualbox-guest-additions installed.
Since vrms places packagename and description on the same line, I wonder if a
particular length have been set aside for the packagename. Since
virtualbox-guest-additions is a fairly long name it may be longer than the
limit set, cutting off the last letter. Just a thought.

I have almost the same problem as SW (old hardware that dont work with
grub1 or 2) and the bug is still present in ubuntu 10.04. As installning
any grub package breaks my installation this workaround makes kernel
upgrades configure properly:

sudo -s

ln -s /bin/true /sbin/update-grub

apt-get upgrade

[Bug 718236] [NEW] Norwegian translation refers to Debian when original says installation (string 1054)

2011-02-13 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debian-installer

The following string (#1054) refers to Debian in the Norwegian
translation, while the original string refers to a generic installation
without mentioning any particular operating system.

It seems that this new installation is the only operating system on this
computer. If so, it should be safe to install the GRUB boot loader to the
master boot record of your first hard drive.
is translated to:
Det ser ut til at denne Debian-installasjonen er det eneste operativsystemet
på denne maskinen. Hvis det er riktig, skulle det være trygt å installere
oppstartslasteren Grub på hovedoppstartssporet på den første harddisken.

In launchpad: https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/natty/+source
/debian-installer/+pots/debian-installer/nb/1054/+translate

This translation should probably be updated to not refer to Debian, as
it is not mentioned in the original string and may be confusing.

[Bug 713490] Re: package initramfs-tools 0.98.1ubuntu9 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-02-13 Thread Charlie Kravetz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error caused by a corrupted
archive. Please execute the following commands, as it will clear your
package cache, in a terminal ( Applications - Accessories - Terminal )
:

sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue. If so please set the bug's status to Invalid. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 565058] Re: Lucid: hotplugging Huawei E220 doesn't load 'option' module

2011-02-13 Thread Manfred Hampl
I am on Ubuntu 10.10 using a Huawei E160 USB modem and experience the
same bug. (Note that in lsusb the E160 is shown as 12d1:1003 and is
named E220/E270, so apparently it is technically identical to the E220.)

If I have my device plugged in when booting, it shows up in the network manager
applet ready for use.
If I plug it in only after booting, I have to manually issue the 'modprobe
option' command to get it working.

I have both usb-modeswitch and usb-modeswitch-data installed, but I did
not see any effect on said behavior with manually running usb-
modeswitch.

What I have found out respectively can confirm so far:
If I have the device plugged in at boot time, among others the modules
usb_storage, option, usb_wwan and usbserial are loaded.
If I plug in the device later, only the usb_storage module gets loaded, any
only with the command modprobe option the other three modules (option,
usb_wwan and usbserial) get loaded, to achieve the same list of loaded modules
as when booting with the device already connected.

If it helps I can attach all data similar to those Bartosz has sent or any
other system output if requested.

[Bug 154385] Re: samba printers don't show in smb browser

This is an old bug, Gutsy is no longer supported.
There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and
your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a
lot if you could test in Ubuntu 10.04 or higher. If it is still an issue, we
would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect
bug #, and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

[Bug 42178] Re: apt-get doesn't use the same pinning as synaptic

2011-02-13 Thread steubens
this recently made a bit of a mess on a new install (i add natty repos,
pin at 50, then pull firefox from natty) where the file sharing dialogue
and some other auto-foo installed natty packages, ignoring
/etc/preferences.d/*, aptitude just got a patch to finally heed
preferences.d in the natty cycle, it would be sweet to put this one to
bed too

make synaptic read /etc/preferences.d/* and write its local changes to
/etc/preferences.d/synaptic-pins or something

[Bug 718248] [NEW] Hibernate fails on Dell Inspiron 8600 with Maverick

2011-02-13 Thread Nat Kuhn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

This is basically the same as bug #298804 Hibernate fails on Dell
Inspiron 8600 with Intrepid, but to submit my apport data it seems to
want me to start a new report.

Just installed 10.10 Maverick on my Dell Inspiron 8600 dual-boot with
Windows XP. Suspend is fine, but it will not hibernate. This is not an
nVidia proprietary driver problem--I have the identical problem when I
roll back to the non-proprietary driver.

When I try to hibernate, it get the same message Marek got:
[*.] pm_op(): pci_pm_thaw + 0x0/0x50 returns -16
[*.] PM: Device :00:00.0 failed to thaw: error -16
except that I get 0x80 where he got 0x50. After a little while the screen
goes to a half-tone gray and the machine powers down. Unlike Marek, when I
restart I get no errors, just a standard boot.

Other than that, I love Maverick! Thanks for any help you can give me.

You probably have this info collected, but:

[Bug 718258] [NEW] Slow burning, cannot expell the medium and 30+ minutes to create a (useless?) checksum

2011-02-13 Thread Uqbar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

I've asked brasero to burn a data DVD. 3 GB of data over a 4.4GB DVD-R medium.
It was not able to burn a 16x DVD-R medium with a 8x DVD+/-R/RW (HL-DT-ST
DVDRAM GSA-T20L) but at 2x, while K3B on the same hardware was able to do it
(before i dumped KDE for other problems).
Then, after finishing the burning, it stayed idle for 30+ minutes in
calculating checksum. System load was almost 0.
I cancelled this step and soon after brasero said it was not able to expel the
medium.
Of course K3B is able to do so and also the eject command line tool can, with
the very same system user permissions.
I feel all these are bugs.
