Re: [Bug 739151] Re: [PATCH] dpkg-cross: handle multi-arch packages too

2011-03-23 Thread Steve Langasek
Hi Neil,

 Marcin Juszkiewicz marcin.juszkiew...@linaro.org wrote:

Ubuntu 'natty' switched to multiarch recently and my cross toolchain
packages started to fail to build. Most of problems were fixed but then
  dpkg-cross hit us.

Today I looked at dpkg-cross and made attached patch to handle problem.
What patch does is converting multiarch packages into old style ones.

Are you sure you want to convert Multi-Arch paths to the old paths?

In a word: yes. As long as we need dpkg-cross to do anything with
Multi-Arch: same packages, the thing we need them to do is to convert them
over to the old paths.

The reason is straightforward - we need to continue crossing packages with
dpkg-cross for a time while we're transitioning to multiarch, satisfying
certain external constraints (like the fact that no buildds are configured
to install foreign-arch multiarch packages as build dependencies... or that
libc6-dev:$foreign and build-essential:$native are not currently
co-installable); and we don't want crossed packages to conflict on the
filesystem with the native multiarch packages that they're built from,
because that just makes it harder to have a smooth transition.

So since a developer might want to have both libc6-armel-cross and
libc6:armel installed at the same time during the transition, the files
still need to be moved around.

(The same thing applies to ia32-libs on x86, btw.)

The idea is to get the packages concerned to use Multi-Arch paths which
the toolchain should just find without needing dpkg-cross at all. The
toolchain should be looking in the Multi-Arch paths first, then the old
 cross paths.

Yep - but we've got a lot of work to do before we're there, and we don't
want to leave the cross-compiling world broken in the meantime.

The expected role for dpkg-cross once Multi-Arch started to be deployed
was only in putting non-Multi-Arch packages into old paths, letting the
toolchain find the other packages in their normal Multi-Arch paths.

This was also what I expected when viewing the matter from 10,000 feet. Now
that we're closer to the ground, I see that more involvement is still needed
from dpkg-cross during the transition.

It sounds like the wrong job to me. Why are the libraries IN the
correct Multi-Arch paths not being found by a Multi-Arch aware
toolchain? You need a Multi-Arch-Cross toolchain to work with
Multi-Arch and not changes to dpkg-cross. Old toolchains need to be
 upgraded.

If correctly Multi-Arch'd packages are not being found by a Multi-Arch
aware toolchain, that's not something dpkg-cross should be expected to
 solve.

It's not that the toolchain can't find the packages, it's that for
bootstrapping toolchains into the archive we need to generate an installable
libc6-armel-cross and libc6-dev-armel-cross package - and these packages
should not use the multiarch paths, because the *real multiarch packages*
want to use those. :)

Thanks,

[Bug 741114] [NEW] pc freeze 2.6.38 on ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04 probably caused by wifi driver

2011-03-23 Thread Slon
Public bug reported:

Been using 11.04 alpha 3 before, quite nice, but crashed when trying to
connect to wifi. Moved back to Ubuntu 10.10 everything worked fine, but
decided to try out the 2.6.38 kernel http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v2.6.38-natty/ it is the same kernel as 11.04, so don't
know if it is a ubuntu or kernel bug. When trying to connect to
wireless, pc freezes and can't move my mouse.

I'm using an Asus Eee R101(1001px) it has 1.6ghz atom 1gb ram and uses
ath9k driver for wifi(but supports only b/g) the chipset is AR2427.

[Bug 741112] [NEW] Lot of windows blocked blocked

2011-03-23 Thread PEIGNOT Kévin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: light-themes

I have a lot of windows in windows in witch GTK widgets are blocked ( buttons,
scrollbars... evrything unclickable), but I usually can navigate in it using
keyboard (usually).
SOmetimes, the windows controls are blocked too, so I must use Alt+f4

This seems to happen only with default ambiance theme and Unity (I
didn't have problem with my session using thr Macbuntu GTK theme).

In the same time, gnome-control center have been uninstalled ( do not
know when, it happen alone), so I wasn't able to access to gnome-
appearance-properties. I reinstalled it, problem is still here

mdadm (3.1.4-1+8efb9d1ubuntu4) natty; urgency=low

  * mdadm udev rule incrementally adds mdadm member when detected. Starting
such an array in degraded mode is possible by mdadm -IRs. Using mdadm -ARs
without stopping the array first does nothing when no mdarray-unassociated
device is available. Using mdadm -IRs to start a previously partially
assembled array through incremental mode. Keeping the mdadm -ARs for
assembling arrays which were for some reason not assembled through
incremental mode (i.e through mdadm's udev rule). (LP: #728435)

[Bug 736073] Re: armel postinst segfaults, causing other packages that depend on it to FTBFS as well

2011-03-23 Thread Dr. David Alan Gilbert
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/csound/1:5.13.0~dfsg-

shows a succesful build of the same package as the original report:
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/67083908/buildlog_ubuntu-natty-armel.csound_1%3A5.13.0~dfsg-3build1_BUILDING.txt.gz

I believe the machine that was built on is a different type than the
original; and I don't believe we have an easy way to force a rebuild on
the original box.

I'm going to set this as incomplete on the hope someone can test it on
the original machine type, but given it's working on other machines and
that the bug 605042 sounded promising as a fix I'm hoping this is
closed.

[Bug 688858] Re: Moving the panel renders the computer useless unrepairable !

2011-03-23 Thread Teej
Hi clemm17,
It appears that the previous triager did not understand your bug report. Sorry
about that. Am I right in thinking that the resolution changed *because* of the
game, and that you then had to move panels around to do stuff, and that in
doing that, the panels moved to the same place i.e. over the top of each other,
making them useless? I think I have that right, correct me if I'm wrong.
If this is still a problem for you, it would be great if you could test this
with the Live CD of the development release - Natty Narwhal. You can obtain the
latest CD image for this from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .
Thank you again and sorry for the previous misunderstanding.

[Bug 741117] [NEW] Blurry icon in wide screens

2011-03-23 Thread Costales
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

Hi! The icon for my application (gufw) has a blurry icon in a wide
screen (Tested in Ubuntu 11.04 alpha3 updated to 23March'11).

On my desktop computer I have a normal screen, I see all right:
http://acurti.es/EQo (Last icon).
On my laptop (HP nx7300) with a wide screen I see a wrong gufw icon:
http://ubuntuone.com/p/iHp/ (7º icon)

Any idea, please? I think could be an Unity bug. Best regards and thanks
in advance!

[Bug 689214] Re: Cannot connect Kodak C613 digital camera to F-spot.

2011-03-23 Thread Teej
Hi Gerald,
Sorry about the previous triager. Are you still having problems connecting your
Kodak camera to download photos through F-spot? Are you able to see the photos
through the file manager (Nautilus)? Also, Ubuntu 9.10 is a little outdated
(you can still use it and it is still supported), but some software updates may
have fixed this problem. If you could test with a daily Live CD of Natty
Narwhal (the upcoming 11.04 release) that would be great. You can get it at
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . Thank you again.

[Bug 741121] [NEW] Custom Menu-Entries of the GNOME Menu are not displayed in the applications menu

2011-03-23 Thread TheGhost
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity-2d

I have created certain menu entries in my Gnome Menu, e.g. launching a
Java Application via: java -jar path/to/jar.

Expected behaviour:
-
All my menu entries of the Gnome Menu are also displayed in Unity's Application
Menu.

Behaviour Instead:
-
After switching to unity-2d, these entries are not in unity's application menu.
Even readding an entry via System-Mainmenu does not bring back my custom menu
entries.

To my mind this is a bug, because users loose their custom entries from
Gnome menu, as a real disadvantage.

[Bug 689228] Re: eingefrorener Bildschirm

2011-03-23 Thread Teej
Hi Uwe,
I have taken the liberty of translating your bug report into English for you.
Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough
information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you
would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have
instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate
application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the
name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.
Thank you again.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 733309 ***

On the equivalent side for Kubuntu we added appmenu-gtk to our seeds
directly, so it could be added as a dependency of the ubuntu desktop
seeds.

The widgets which use dbusmenu could recommend it, indicator-appmenu
recommends appmenu-gtk, it could also recommend appmenu-qt.

It could also be made a recommendation of qt itself, I don't see much
disadvantage in this, it's just inconsistent with what is currently
done.

[Bug 486303] Re: Every illegal character aren't well detected and forbidden

2011-03-23 Thread tmodes
Hi Thibault,

your patch does not work as intended.
* You changed the comment but did not understand what it states.
* Your patch breaks stitching on Windows, because every (locale) filename
contains a :, which your patch rejects.
* Your patch rejects too much characters which works, e.g. ampersand, single
quote. (some of them were fixed lately)

see also the other bug reports:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/hugin/+bug/679353
https://bugs.launchpad.net/hugin/+bug/737224

Committed changes which fixes some the characters in a more general way.

[Bug 730903] Re: maximize in 2d unity does not have combined menu

2011-03-23 Thread TheGhost
I had the same issue when I started Unity-2D under Ubuntu 10.10 without
updating metacity via dist-upgrade.

To resolve this issue I installed metacity and removed Unity 's config
files in /home/user/.gconf/desktop. After that I logged in again into
Unity-2D Desktop and the issue was fixed.

I know this bug was filed under Natty, but eventually it helps. :)
