[Bug 776936] Re: Running KVM guest causes kernel panic on host

2011-05-05 Thread SergeiFranco
I ran it while I was watch 'dmesg | tail' and caught glimpse of this:

[91476.783713] [c142fdd0] ? __netif_receive_skb+0x180/0x4e0

[91476.800995] [c11278a0] ? do_readv_writev+0xa0/0x190

It still panics after I deleted membaloon (and redefined the config) and
disabled the KSM.
I can only afford to experiment once a day, as I don't want for it to panic
during resync for obvious reasons.

[Bug 764096] Re: DNS hostname lookups fail in chroot after natty upgrade

2011-05-05 Thread Malac
Just fell foul of this bug myself.
Upgraded to Natty suddenly no mail out.
Thanks for posting the fix seems to have sorted the problem.
Can't believe this was released with this bug. But then I supposed that's the
nature of bugs, they're things people haven't noticed. :)
Thanks again, launchpad saved my bacon...again.

[Bug 775993] Re: package apache2.2-common 2.2.17-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-05-05 Thread Jean-Pierre Riviere
Today, the server has given me thatfile it refused until today. I admit
I rebooted. But I did also reboot previously.

Without a rebot, the bug remained for my second PC. After a reboot, a
dpkg --configure -a (still no output)' an apt-get updaete, this PC still
cannot load the missing .deb.

I am no more blocked because what I wanted was apache for the first PC
but the mystery remains intact.

2011-05-05 Thread James Page
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This error is probably due to a corrupt deb archive. Please execute the
following command in a terminal to clear your cache and then try re-
installing apache2-mpm-prefork:

  sudo apt-get clean

If this resolves your issue please set this bug's status to Invalid.

Thanks

[Bug 777022] Re: package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.54-1ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: sub-processo script post-installation instalado retornou estado de saída de erro 1

2011-05-05 Thread James Page
Thank you for taking the time to make Ubuntu better.

It looks like you either have a problem with your mysql configuration or
an errant mysqld process (it might not have shutdown correctly when you
un-installed) is causing issues on your system.

Please can you try running the following command to see if you have an existing
mysqld process running:

 ps -aef | grep mysqld

If this does not show up and running mysqld process please try the
following:

  sudo service mysql start

If mysql starts correctly then you can attempt to complete the
installation by running:

  sudo dpkg --configure -a

If that still does not resolve your issue please could you attach the
following files to this bug report:

 /var/log/mysql.err
 /var/log/mysql.log
 /var/log/mysql/error.log

Thanks

[Bug 744293] Re: Infinite loop in helper LVM script for DRBD 8 in Lucid

2011-05-05 Thread Jacob Smith
Andres,

This is a real pain for those of us who would like to ensure that we
don't lose data due to a failure during re-sync. If we don't take a
snapshot prior to a re-sync of the secondary and there was a failure it
could be catastrophic. I'm pretty sure Lars put out a patch which is
mentioned in the original bug report.

I realize getting this into 10.04 can be a long process. Any chance in
the mean time you would be willing to put up a patched version in the HA
PPA? I could patch it myself however if you put it up at least it would
be there for those that don't know how or don't want to modify their
packages outside of apt.

Thanks!

[Bug 777868] [NEW] Postfix smtp can no longer resolve localhost - regression from maverick.

2011-05-05 Thread Matthias Andree
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postfix

I have a particular Postfix relay configuration where I need to forward
SMTP to an SSH tunnel, and configure a relayhost_maps (sender_dependent
actually) as [localhost]:12345.

This worked in maverick, but fails in natty. The new Postfix 2.8 release
strips RES_DEFNAMES from _res.options (the resolver flags) by default,
which triggers a resolver bug reported separately as Launchpad Bug
#777855.

Note that this is not a Postfix bug, but a bug in eglibc - I am filing
this as Postfix bug to document the issue and for possible workarounds
should an eglibc resolution not be viable.

A possible workaround, but dangerous, is to tweak Postfix's resolver
flags as in http://marc.info/?l=postfix-usersm=130459442830727w=2 by
setting smtp_dns_resolver_options=res_defnames, but that causes false
resolver results for some. Please see the entire thread at
http://marc.info/?t=13045616412r=1w=2 for a discussion.

[Bug 744293] Re: Infinite loop in helper LVM script for DRBD 8 in Lucid

2011-05-05 Thread Andres Rodriguez
** Description changed:

-
The script /usr/lib/drbd/snapshot-resync-target-lvm.sh shipped with drbd
v8.3.7 in Lucid fails to read its command line options and falls into an
  infinite loop.

This bug is not in present in natty, but I humbly request an SRU to
  Lucid.

This script can be called by DRBD to create an LVM snapshot of a
resource before it starts resyncing (thus becoming inconsistent). This
script is present (though commented out) in the default drbd
  configuration file /etc/drbd.d/global_common.conf .

This bug can result in drbd silently failing to resync an outdated
resource. Thus, any newer data will be lost if the cluster fails over to
  the outdated node.

This is a known problem upstream and it was fixed in later versions of
DRBD. The following patch was committed upstream to address this bug :

http://git.drbd.org/?p=drbd-8.3.git;a=commitdiff;h=1fd3ad953663615e946167191e1d9885af81450a

  Steps to reproduce:
On a cluster composed of node A and node B:
- - on both nodes, uncomment the line before-resync-target
/usr/lib/drbd/snapshot-resync-target-lvm.sh -p 15 -- -c 16k;
- - on both nodes, configure a drbd resource called test
- - make the initial synchronization
- - on B, do drbdadm disconnect test
- - nn A, make test primary and write to it
- - on B, do drbdadm connect test
- = the script will kick in and fall in an endless loop - top will show it
using 100% CPU.
+  - on both nodes, uncomment the line before-resync-target
/usr/lib/drbd/snapshot-resync-target-lvm.sh -p 15 -- -c 16k;

[Bug 697046] Re: Unable to create volumes on disk pools as parted support is missing

2011-05-05 Thread Serge Hallyn
** Description changed:

- IMPACT:
+ SRU justification:
+
+ 1. IMPACT:
libvirt is unable to create partitions to support volumes in physical disk
devices (or logical disk devices).

- TEST CASE (using lvm):
+ 2. HOW WAS BUG ADDRESSED: parted was added to build dependencies so that
+ ./configure will build with its support. (libparted-dev was already in
+ build dependencies)
+
+ 3. MINIMAL PATCH - see debdiff in comment #8.
+
+ 4. TEST CASE (using lvm):
  Create a new logical volume:
    lvcreate -n sde -L 500M vgname
  Initialise the volume using fdisk
fdisk /dev/mapper/vgname-sde (exit using w to initialize partition table)
Create a new pool using this device (using attached sde.xml)
    virsh pool-define sde.xml
    virsh pool-start sde
Create a new volume in the pool:
virsh vol-create-as --pool sde --name 1 --capacity 100M --allocation 100M
+
+ 4. REGRESSION POTENTIAL - libvirt will now be built with support for
+ parted, so any previously hidden bugs in that support could now come to
+ light.

[Bug 744293] Re: Infinite loop in helper LVM script for DRBD 8 in Lucid

2011-05-05 Thread Andres Rodriguez
** Description changed:

   - on both nodes, uncomment the line before-resync-target
/usr/lib/drbd/snapshot-resync-target-lvm.sh -p 15 -- -c 16k;
   - on both nodes, configure a drbd resource called test
   - make the initial synchronization
   - on B, do drbdadm disconnect test
   - nn A, make test primary and write to it
   - on B, do drbdadm connect test
= the script will kick in and fall in an endless loop - top will show it
using 100% CPU.

  lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS
  Release: 10.04

  apt-cache policy drbd8-utils
  drbd8-utils:
    Installé : 2:8.3.7-1ubuntu2.1
    Candidat : 2:8.3.7-1ubuntu2.1

   2:8.3.7-1ubuntu2 0
  500 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages

  Lionel Sausin.

  ===
  SRU Justification

  IMPACT:

+ Using the --percent option, the script entered in an endless loop. This
+ can result on having DRBD failing to resync an outdated resource when
+ using LVM.

  REPRODUCE (as specified above):

On a cluster composed of node A and node B:
   - on both nodes, uncomment the line before-resync-target
/usr/lib/drbd/snapshot-resync-target-lvm.sh -p 15 -- -c 16k;
   - on both nodes, configure a drbd resource called test
   - make the initial synchronization
   - on B, do drbdadm disconnect test
   - nn A, make test primary and write to it
   - on B, do drbdadm connect test
= the script will kick in and fall in an endless loop - top will show it
using 100% CPU.

  HOW FIXED:

- The fix was taken from upstream.
+ The fix was taken from upstream. It basically consists on sourcing the
+ default file first, then shifting correctly the option, and finally and
+ use drbdadm sh-minor to obtain the minor version instead of guessing it,
+ which all together can cause the script to enter in infinite loop and
+ fail to resync as specified above.

  PATCH:

- Attached. Uploaded to natty-proposed for review.
+ Attached. Uploaded to lucid-proposed for review.

  REGRESSION POTENTIAL:

Minimal. This has been tested thoroughly.

[Bug 280421] Re: ethtool not available in post-ifup script

2011-05-05 Thread Serge Hallyn
** Description changed:

+ ===
+ SRU Justification:
+
+ 1. Impact: users who have /usr on a separate, remote, slow filesystem, may
find that ethtool does not exist when ethtool's ifup.d rules fire.
+ 2. How bug was addressed: ethtool was moved from /usr/sbin to /sbin
+ 3. Minimal patch:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/maverick/ethtool/maverick/revision/12
+ 4. To reproduce: put /usr on a slow (i.e. remote NFS mounted) filesystem,
install ethtool on a system using it.
+ 5. Regression potential: This fix has been applied in maverick and natty with
no ill effects. If users have custom scripts calling /usr/sbin/ethtool by its
full path, those might now fail since we do not provide an automatic link.
+
+ ===
+
  Binary package hint: ethtool

  PROBLEM:

I am running Ubuntu 8.04 in a Xen DomU.

To fix network performance issues, the line post-up /usr/sbin/ethtool
-K eth0 tx off is needed for the virtual ethernet device within the
  /etc/network/intefaces file.

Usually this works fine, however if /usr is stored on its own partition
this command fails, as /usr is not yet mounted when udev executes ifup
  for the ethernet device.

Unfortunately this causes some very strange errors like
/etc/init.d/networking stop to fail bacause the eth0 interface is
brought up but not correctly registered in the state file.

The only workaround at the moment is to disable the ifup / ifdown hooks
  in /etc/udev/rules.d/85-ifupdown.rules.

  PROPOSED SOLUTION:

The best solution would be moving /usr/sbin/ethtool to /sbin/ethtool so
that it is available on startup before /usr has been mounted.

[Bug 767218] Re: Guest machines crashed during apt-get update/upgrade on Lucid

2011-05-05 Thread sysadmin-nawfi
All,

While testing and configuring this VM host and the VM's, I let a host
update go through (on purpose) without shutting down the VM's and it had
_no_effect_ on the running VM's. The Console's went down but the VM's
remained operational and after the install I could restart the gui VMM
and see the running VM's which continued operating.

Packages updated were:
  libvirt-bin
  libvirt0
  python-libvirt

Perhaps this bug should be closed as I see others appear to NOT be able
to replicate the problem that we had earlier. If I can't make it happen
again and others cannot, I don't see how we can fix it.

[Bug 777868] Re: Postfix smtp can no longer resolve localhost - regression from maverick.

2011-05-05 Thread Matthias Andree
Additional remark: Bug #764096 is about an incomplete chroot setup caused by
the start script.
To differentially diagnose this, I had ruled a broken chroot setup out in my
testing by forcing smtp(8) outside the chroot per master.cf.

This bug is fundamentally a resolver bug, exhibited through a change in
Postfix's default policy which flags to pass to/strip from res_search().

Arguably I should be using 127.0.0.1 or ::1 instead of localhost
(suggested by Victor Duchovni on postfix-users) to skip the DNS
indirection, but localhost has been working well since Ubuntu 9.10 or
so, so I'd taken the time to notify Ubuntu in addition to the upstream.

I see this bug as a tracking bug for if and only if you want to provide
a workaround in Postfix (as suggested initially) while Bug #777855 is
still unfixed.

  * debian/init.d: copy both /lib/libnss_*.so and /lib/*/libnss_*.so to the

architectures other than our own, but avoids a runtime dep on dpkg-dev

[Bug 777594] [NEW] unity tries to kill all unity-panel-service processes on startup (even other users’)

2011-05-05 Thread Anders Kaseorg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

The run_unity function in /usr/bin/unity tries to do:
subprocess.Popen([killall, unity-panel-service])
If there are other users logged into the system, this spews “Operation not
permitted” errors (unless you’re logging in as root, in which case it will
probably actually kill every user’s panel process!). The killall should at
least be limited by username, and ideally by session as well.

By the way, it’s rather sloppy that wait() isn’t called on that subprocess
object; that results in a zombie killall process being leaked:

[Bug 776481] Re: Custom Launcher Icon Doesn't Change on Changing The Original Icon File

2011-05-05 Thread Krishna
Sorry for the incomplete information...
I drag the actual file from the desktop to launcher...
So the launcher icon is a link to the actual one.. Right?

I don't know.. But when I change the Icon image of the actual file (The
.desktop file on the Desktop), that is placed to launcher, the icon
image on the launcher doesn't change...

[Bug 774978] Re: xserver seg'd [945GM]

2011-05-05 Thread Geoff
I am having the same trouble with an i915. My system is stock
everything (upgraded from maverick to natty) except running the PAE
kernel and the ubuntu classic gdm session. A freeze sometimes occurs
within about five minutes of booting up and logging in, but doesn't
happen at all if the session survives longer than that, as it usually
does. I don't use Firefox, so it's not caused only by that. A freeze
can happen randomly even when just popping up any menu. Then it
restarts the session using tty8 and doesn't crash again. Here's a trace
from the log file:

[Bug 777605] [NEW] windows are displayed with stripes and missing text/icons except I logging in Ubuntu classic without visual effects

if I had some cable integrity problems. Everything I could do is leaving the

What other info should I produce here?

[Bug 777606] [NEW] Panel turns black when maximizing terminal

2011-05-05 Thread Alexander Weinert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfce4-panel

I am using Xubuntu 11.04 with the 2.6.38-8-generic-Kernel. The Panel has
the version 4.8.3-0ubuntu1, the terminal is in version 0.4.7-0ubuntu1.

When I maximize a xfce4-terminal by hitting Alt+F10 or clicking the
maximize-button in the upper right corner, the window maximizes
correctly, but the panel turns pitch black. Only when I hover over the
icons they are redrawn, however, the rest of the panel still remains
black.

Xfce4-panel --restart solves the problem until I maximize the terminal
again.
