[Bug 715056] Re: invalid ssl-certificates in /etc/postfix/main.cf after security upgrade

2011-06-25 Thread jan
I waited till the patch was in for lucid till I used upgrade manager. By
detault, it now found 1:1.2.9-1ubuntu6.5, and it worked like a charm.
Thanks for the effort put into this.

Thanks Nate for working on this. I am bumping this back to In
Progress as a fix hasn't yet been merged or uploaded. I have marked it
as a bug which should be resolved by Alpha 2, so it is being tracked.

@dj.palindrome, Thanks also for your confirmations; it is appreciated.

[Bug 801718] Re: kpropd -S -P port fails to use specified port

2011-06-25 Thread Dave Walker
This needs to be triaged to check that it is fixed in Oneiric (current
development version), which has 1.9.1+dfsg-1ubuntu1.

One this is confirmed, the change (either with distro patches) or
upstream resolution that fixed this needs to be identified.

Thanks.

2011-06-25 Thread Thomas Schweikle
Wasn't me (not really). The bug-report window just popped up, after
installing a new kernel. Seems as if this Window popped up more than
once for the same error.

I could make vmware tools install after applying the patch for the
commercial version. It now compiles seamlessly with the Ubuntu Kernel as
with the plain vanilla one from Kernel.Org. The patch did not apply out
of the box. I had to change paths.

@Thomas, Thanks for the update. I don't think we can support building

for bug 776103, to resolve it on oneiric.

[Bug 191251] Re: [needs-packaging] php5-embed

2011-06-25 Thread Emmett Keyser
#17 agree

Ondřej Surý I feel you're out of line not just personally but with
respect to the CoC.

I realize you have your reasons but while you may not see many requests
for php-embed that doesn't necessarily mean no one wants it. What it
might mean is that no one wants to expose themselves to your
abrasiveness.

If you have feelings against php that's one thing but as maintainer of
php for Debian it seems you are in conflict of interest with the php
community at large.

[Bug 802081] [NEW] qemu raw/nocache fails to operate on LVM partition with 4k sector size

2011-06-25 Thread cyberconte
Public bug reported:

On the host machine, a disk is configured with 4k sector sizes:
---
sudo fdisk /dev/sdd

Disk /dev/sdd: 4000.6 GB, 4000627818496 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60797 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 4096 = 65802240 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 4096 bytes / 4096 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 4096 bytes / 4096 bytes
Disk identifier: 0xf8eabb69
---
... and when fdisking the lvm parition, also reports properly:

Disk /dev/VMsVG/mail: 21.0 GB, 2097152 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 318 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 4096 = 65802240 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 4096 bytes / 4096 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 4096 bytes / 4096 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x6a3bdb21

However, within a VM using the LVM parition as a raw disk, its fdisk reports a
512 block size:
---
Disk /dev/vda: 21.0 GB, 2097152 bytes
16 heads, 63 sectors/track, 5079 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 1008 * 4096 = 4128768 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 4096 bytes / 4096 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x915c306a

using cache=none, which is established practice for best performance on
raw devices, the host system repeatedly fails to write to the disk, due
to it trying to write 512 byte sectors while the backing is 4096.

[Bug 733349] Re: Minimize Application's Windows upon clicking it's Launcher Icon

2011-06-25 Thread Bazon
@#135 about more or less technical users:

If you (Canonical) don't respect the needs of the technical users, you possibly
make it more difficult to reach the 200 Million users goal: The technical users
are multiplicatiors for other, less technical, normal users: They tell them
about the possibility of another OS, they can convince them about the
advantages of this OS, they can help to install and to manage the OS.
In the past, I recommended Ubuntu to friends and family and convinced quite
some of them to use Ubuntu.
But now, I can't recommend Ubuntu any more. It is not just this bug, but this
is symptomatic: My main argument for choosing Ubuntu was the great ability to
configure it to personal needs. (One of the first things I showed to new users
was the great flexibility of the old gnome panel.)
Now this argument is lost (unless you use another DE, which I do, but I'm not
sure whether this is a good choice for less technical users...),
Canonical-Ubuntu became a less-is-more,-take-it-or-leave-it thing, just like
Mac OS.

Conclusion:
If you focus too much on less technical users, you risk to lose both technical
and less technical users.

[Bug 801667] Re: package texlive-latex-base-doc 2009-7 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: package texlive-latex-base-doc is already installed and configured

2011-06-25 Thread Raphaël Hertzog
The error message is the following:
Unpacking replacement texlive-font-utils ...

dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/texlive-font-
utils_2009-10ubuntu1_all.deb (--unpack):

failed to stat (dereference) existing symlink `/usr/share/doc/texlive-
doc/fonts/fontinst/test/testsc.tex': Input/output error

/usr/sbin/update-language-def: line 779: printf: missing unicode digit

Input/output error means that your hardware is broken usually, thus it's
not a software bug. Marking as invalid.

[Bug 783582] Re: [Aspire 3830TG, Conexant ID 506c, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2011-06-25 Thread physe
Thanks for explanation David.

I used the HDA_Analizer workout, but it is not completely satisfying: at
first, sound comes out from the speakers, but after a couple of reboots
it won't anymore, randomly. Plus, i have had a weird experience:

I selected, on the audio settings panel, the hdmi output + analog
input hardware set. The input tab recognized a mic, so i tried to
record some sound, but could not hear the result, because the speakers
were not working (no channels were muted in alsamixer!). Changing the
hardware set to analog output, i had no mic working, but i could check
my record and it had actually recorded my voice. There was no external
mic plugged, and i had just used the HDA_Analizer tool.

I felt so near to the solution, the problem would then be just
enabling HDMI audio output...

Too bad I can't rerun this test: i did it yesterday, and today the audio
settings tab won't detect any mic in any hardware set, I can't
understand why. Shame. Anyway, I will keep trying.

I really hope someone of you can find a working solution soon... I am
here ready to test anything you need to test, but sadly I'm not so good
to find a solution on my own.

Thanks in advance!

[Bug 775289] Re: E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, caused by held packages.

2011-06-25 Thread CyborgAlpha
What did work is not a fix to bug, but a work around. Apparently,
[libnss3-1d] attaches itself (through upgrades) to old packages. As
such, [sudo apt-get autoremove] does not remove these packages. I found
this out by installing the [libnss3-1d] deb file listed above. Then
opened [synaptic] which reported a broken [libnss3-1d] package. Clicking
to repair the broken package, It listed everything it was attached to.
This included Thunderbird and Network Manager, in addition to old lucid
packages. All these packages had to be removed and reinstalled, minus
the old lucid packages, and on reboot - the upgrade succeeded.

What the upgrade manager failed to do - find and delete old packages,
that may (and do) cause upgrade problems.

[Bug 755334] Re: Synaptics touchpad after some time slows, nearly freezes and becomes jumpy

- Yes. An external USB mouse exhibits the same behaviour.
- There are periods of time after logging in into any desktop account on the
machine when I can move the touchpad for a few hours without a problem, but
also periods when this unresponsiveness is quite persistent or reoccurs
frequently.

[Bug 754162] Re: logitech camera doesn't work after upgrade

2011-06-25 Thread Nuno Sucena Almeida
I had a similar problem with two computers with different cameras, one
32bit, the other 64 bit, where skype used to work fine until recently.
I'm running 11.04 on both. Previously ubuntu would install a wrapper
that would call extra libraries, but I noticed that it doesn't ship it
anymore. For that reason I wrote a wrapper that you can use, it might
solve your problem, it worked for me on both systems. Just follow the
instructions at the top of this file. It basically adds
'libv4l/v4l1compat.so' and 'libv4lconvert.so.0'.

Thanks.

[Bug 801875] [NEW] External USB3-Disk segfaults the kernel

2011-06-25 Thread carsten
Public bug reported:

I own a iomga eGo 500 GB external harddisk which supports USB 2 and USB
3.

My computer is a ZOTAC AD02 (see link at the end of the report for
details). The AD02 has 2 USB3-slots and 4 USB2-Slots. Whenever I use the
harddisk with USB2 it works without any problems. Using the USB3-Slots
it segfaults within a second. I get to see the backtrace attached as a
photo.

Now other USB-devices created any such problems but I only have this
USB3-device.

About my distribution: I installed Ubuntu-Server 2011.4 and did all
updates.

[Bug 733349] Re: Minimize Application's Windows upon clicking it's Launcher Icon

2011-06-25 Thread mmiicc
Workspace switcher icon, Applications icon (the one with plus sign in a
cap of coffee), Files and Folders icon and Ubuntu icon, also every icon
in top panel work in the way that on one click they show something, on
another they hide it. Is this also confusing to users? I don't think so.
So, why the same behaviour with minimising application's windows might
be confusing?

[Bug 745398] Re: Netbeans 7.0 needs packaging

2011-06-25 Thread Paul van Genderen
It may be a good idea to wait until the next update, though. Even
selecting a menu item is infuriatingly slow on a 2,8GHz CPU.

[Bug 777930] Re: High power consumption and general overheat in ubuntu 11.04.

2011-06-25 Thread 0N3_xyz
I can confirm this too on 11.04 Ubuntu (64) Bit. I have nevr had a
problem with Ubutu until 11.04 its pretty much destroyed my laptop. Some
of my media console buttons dont work cant run on or off the wireless
due to laptop overhaeting and shutting down while left idle. The
keyboard becomes hot to touch and everything inside the laptop including
RAM, HDD, CPU GPU get so hot it heats up the laptop where it burns to
touch it. Is this issue resolved in Kernel 2.6.39 also experience alot
of freezing :(

[Bug 258391] Re: WMV crash while watching TV

2011-06-25 Thread Abhishek Singh
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is missing or challenging to
deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have
apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the
automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
