[Bug 807675] [NEW] please port 0.8.1 for Natty

2011-07-08 Thread John DeStefano
Public bug reported:

Version 0.8.0, the latest for Natty, is suspect to multiple bugs solved
by 0.8.1, including not being able to parse the default sudoers
permissions syntax (`ALL:ALL`) as well as not being able to read the
`#includedir` directive. Thus, the default sudoers file can't be
properly managed in Natty via puppet and augeas. Running augtool to
check for problems points to parsing errors for these lines in the
configuration file.

2011-07-08 Thread Nate Muench
I think I'm kind of glad I waited to push it, if I hadn't, the next
person to push this packaging (probably me) would have the problem with
GCC 4.6.x.

Just a quick note, the tree is still for the May Release. The actual
proposal (the plan, at least) will be for the June release (after I/we
test it) because of the improvements for Unity.

The GCC patch for May will work for June, so just get me a patch for
May, and we'll work from there.

[Bug 807675] Re: please port 0.8.1 for Natty

2011-07-08 Thread John DeStefano
Correction: the include directory problem was fixed in 0.8.1:
https://fedorahosted.org/augeas/ticket/188

The `:` syntax issue remains a problem upstream with Augeas:
https://fedorahosted.org/augeas/ticket/211

But it would be nice to have the fix for the include problem.

[Bug 805661] Re: NO reference clock support. I need Oncore ref clock support in ntp.

2011-07-08 Thread Hal Engel
Also the timepps.h file along with some user land pps related tools can
be found here:

git://github.com/ago/pps-tools.git

The version there is somewhat outdated as it does not include support
for the new kernel consumer that is part of 2.6.38. Here is a diff for
a version that does work with the kernel consumer:

$ diff timepps.h /usr/include/timepps.h

 #ifdef PPS_KC_BIND

 static __inline int time_pps_kcbind(pps_handle_t handle,
   const int kernel_consumer,
   const int edge, const int tsformat)
 {
   struct pps_bind_args __bind_args;

   __bind_args.tsformat = tsformat;
   __bind_args.edge = edge;
   __bind_args.consumer = kernel_consumer;

   return ioctl(handle, PPS_KC_BIND, __bind_args);
 }

[Bug 781985] Re: Format string bugs in mysqlhotcopy

2011-07-08 Thread Steve Beattie
Note that it's not a security issue in this context as perl blocks
format string issues; Modification of a read-only value attempted at
/usr/bin/mysqlhotcopy line 459 is perl blocking the issue.

[Bug 671065] Re: deliver broken because dovecot.conf uses !include_try

2011-07-08 Thread Grondr
This is problematic because it lays a trap. Just because the special package
sets up mailbox_command to do this doesn't mean the bug won't screw someone
who thinks that deliver will obey inclusions. It's -especially- bad if someone
tries
to use virtual domains and hence removes that mailbox_command and thinks
that their virtual-domain solution will work if they don't use -c in the line
in Postfix's
master.cf. It also screws anyone who happens to install Postfix, and then much
later installs just the Dovecot package instead of the postfix-dovecot
superpackage.
Basically, it's totally fragile---if they don't install Dovecot in exactly the
way you
anticipate, or if they make what looks like a change that -should- work, it
doesn't.

I very nearly fell into this trap just now by rearranging some files; I only
noticed
the bug because I was trying to find a definitive syntax definition for how
include_try
was supposed to work and noticed this bug in Google. That one obscure comment
in dovecot.conf is easy to overlook (I did, even though I've been making
changes in
that file for a week or two now), -and-, if you start from Postfix's main.cf
entry, there
is -no- comment warning you that you can't simply eliminate what looks like a
totally
wasteful -c /etc... and rely on the normal conf-file-parsing logic to include
what you
thought was the configuration for deliver. It looks like someone put it in
there in a
misguided attempt at efficiency (hey, why have deliver have to parse the whole
file
when it can parse just this piece?) and not because it's papering over a bug.

So even though I didn't get zapped by this, it was only by chance, and I'd have
spent
a long time trying to figure out what happened if I had.

There are fundamentally two bugs here:
o The upstream deliver bug (doesn't notice include{_try}) needs to be fixed.
o In -every single place- that Postfix's configuration file is explicitly
rewritten to point
   to the included file directly, a very clear comment should be left
explaining why it
   does that, probably pointing to this bug URL, so people know why and when it
might
   have been fixed.

Even that latter part doesn't help people who install Dovecot as its own
package,
unless there's some post-inst that tells them about it; I haven't checked. I
don't
have a good solution for that, except to make the deliver doesn't read
includes
comment in dovecot.conf -much- more noticeable, such as by putting it in
uppercase
and at both the beginning and the end of that file. (I was going to also say,
and in
deliver's manpage, but it doesn't appear to have one.)

[Bug 807357] [NEW] Log Out / Restart / Shut Down dialogs can get lost behind other windows

2011-07-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Public bug reported:

Selecting one of these options from the indicator-session menu:
Log Out...
Restart...
Shut Down...
gives you a dialog. However it is a modeless dialog so can easily get lost
behind other windows. And they can't be found in the Unity Launcher either,
because they're only dialogs.

The fix:
These dialog windows should be made modal.

Further notes:
The offending binary is: /usr/lib/indicator-session/gtk-logout-helper when run
with either -l, -r or -s.
Notice however that the package gnome-session-bin provides alternative dialogs
which are correctly displayed as modal:
gnome-session-save --shutdown-dialog
gnome-session-save --logout-dialog

Re: [Bug 803281] Re: I have no sound on my ubuntu setup

2011-07-08 Thread Scott McDonald
Hello,

I solved this issue shortly after submitting the bug report. It was a noob
error - the host operating system (OSX) had the sound muted,
so there was no sound in the VM (ubuntu), even with all the correct settings
and the volume turned to full.

Apologies if time was spent on this. I tried to delete the bug from the
system myself, but couldn't see a way to do this.

Many thanks for your help!

Scott

 Thanks for your bug report. COuld you please open a terminal, and run
 alsamixer. Once open, use the right arrow key to locate the volume
 control labeled External Amplifier. Use the M key to turn it off. Try
 playing sound. If you still get nothing, I suggest trying to change one
 or more of the other controls in alsamixer to see if you hear anything.

 Failing that, you can try updating your audio drivers, as outlined here:
 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/InstallingLinuxAudioDriverModules.

[Bug 807363] [NEW] [Oneiric] if I using GNOME3 with fallback mode (gnome-session-fallback package installed session), the applications menu is I think empty

2011-07-08 Thread Attila Hammer
Public bug reported:

Dear Developers,

I try using Oneiric with original GNOME3 fallback mode. I installed the
gnome-session-fallback package and required dependencies.
When I login the fallback session, and if I pull down the system menu with
ALT+F1 key, the applications menu is empty. Not presenting the groups and menu
items, for example the accessories group, and the gedit text editor in
accessories group. I am not full sure this to this problem is real, because I
using Orca screen reader.
Very interesting, the places menu is working right.

Now I unable to verify what menu items is checked with Alacarte preference tool
for applications section, because Alacarte is crash when I try launch the
preference tool.
If I try the fallback mode with original GNOME publicated live CD, everithink
is working right.

Serge, that is correct. The old broken version of the prerm script will
be run when you upgrade. The bug is however fully fixed after that.

[Bug 742544] Re: Launcher is shown on the wrong screen in some multi-monitor setups

2011-07-08 Thread Christoph Buchner
Set, how does the monitor.xml have to look like? I don't have it on my
system.

I use disper for switching, and I have the same problem as Bart (comment
#16) - I would like to keep my launcher on my primary, right screen, for
similar reasons (bug #806909), so I'd argue that there's use cases for
that configuration, too.

[Bug 807369] [NEW] unable to change volume in sound menu

2011-07-08 Thread GodNobody
Public bug reported:

Since this week I'm unable to change the volume over the sound menu in
the unity panel.

If i press the control it mutes and if I press it again in goes to full
volume.

The only way to change it by know is to go to Sound Settings and
change it there.

BTW I'm also unable to use the FN-Keys to change the volume, it just
doesn't do anything.

Thanks!

[Bug 522998] Re: XHCI (USB 3.0) kernel Module Prevents Suspend

2011-07-08 Thread Dale Lukas Peterson
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad W510, and the following works flawlessly for
me:

1)  As root/sudo, create /etc/pm/sleep.d/20_custom-xhci_hcd with the
following contents:

#!/bin/sh
# File: /etc/pm/sleep.d/20_custom-xhci_hcd.
TMPLIST=/tmp/xhci-dev-list

case ${1} in
hibernate|suspend)
echo -n ''  $TMPLIST
  for i in `ls /sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd/ | egrep
'[0-9a-z]+\:[0-9a-z]+\:.*$'`; do
  # Unbind xhci_hcd for first device :XX:XX.X:
   echo -n $i | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd/unbind
   echo $i  $TMPLIST
  done
;;
resume|thaw)
for i in `cat $TMPLIST`; do
  # Bind xhci_hcd for first device :XX:XX.X:
  echo -n $i | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd/bind
done
rm $TMPLIST
;;
esac

2) sudo chmod 755 /etc/pm/sleep.d/20_custom-xhci_hcd

I didn't need to create the /etc/pm/sleep.d/05_xhci file as suggested by
@Gabou, nor did I need to do anything with /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-
xhci_hcd.conf or /etc/pm/config.d/unload_module, as suggested by
@Martin. In fact, these three files don't exist on my machine.

For other laptops that have ehci_hcd devices which cause suspend
problems, I think this script will work by simply replacing xhci_hcd
with ehci_hcd, although this isn't directly relevant to this bug report.

This works even with two usb devices plugged into the ports when I
suspend and then resume -- the devices work and don't need to be plugged
in or out.

[Bug 807357] Re: Log Out / Restart / Shut Down dialogs can get lost behind other windows

2011-07-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Correction: The dialogs are created modally, but they are apparently
modal without a parent. So can still get lost behind other windows.

Anyway, the fix was trivial. See Related branches...

[Bug 773524] Re: [Toshiba Tecra R850] SD card reader doesn't work

2011-07-08 Thread Giuseppe Paterno'
I don't have access to a Lenovo x220 or tecra R850 myself, so I would really
appreciate if you can try with this module:
http://www.gpaterno.com/external/sdhci_pci_patch.tar

it's a recompiled version of sdhci-pci.ko for 2.6.38 ***32 BIT ONLY***
(i.e. i686, no 64-bit)

so remove it first with rmmod sdhci-pci and then insmod sdhci-pci.ko
try also to search in dmesg for Ricoh E823 MMC detected
If it is working, I will post the patch for sdhci-pci.c

Thank you.
