Thanks for reporting this bug. This same issue exists with dropbear aswell. There is a fight to see which sshd binds first to 22. However, I was able to have dropbear, lsh-server and openssh installed concurrently without dpkg configuring failure. The only issue was that it was not clear which sshd had won the fight. service nagios can run with no error but service nagios3 found some errors. When I go to web interface, all is well with those commands which work properly. I beg your pardon, you are absolutely correct that it is not installed by default. (I have no idea how it did get installed since I had a fresh install of the OS and I install everything from command line, I guess it was dragged in as a dependency from some other package). You are also right that there is a possible use case where both are installed on different ports but this is surely rare. It would appear that another process had locked /var/cache/debconf/config.dat when you tried to upgrade your system. fuser -v /var/cache/debconf/config.dat will return the locking process if any - try killing it and try performing the upgrade again. Most often, this is only a transient situation and fuser will return nothing. Simply performing the update again should solve this issue. The ntp.drift is a (continuously updated) measure of how much your system's hardware clock deviates from time sources (the NTP servers, or a real precise clock attached to the machine) -- in other words, how much your hardware clock _drifts_ from reliable clock sources. The calculated value is used to adjust the clock when no time servers can be contacted. NTP server addresses are stored in /etc/ntp.conf. @gerti: 1. I shouldn't need the NTP-daemon, as I don't want to run a NTP- service for other machines om my network. Well, this is just *one* reason to run NTP (as opposed to ntpdate only). The other -- and, in my view, much more important -- reason is to keep your machine as much as possible time-synchronised. If you just use ntpdate your clock will (slowly, but surely) drift from the correct time. How much and how fast depends on a lot of factors, including how long since last sync, thermal variances on the computer, quality of the computer hardware clock source, etc. Additionally, every time you manually (or via cron) run ntpdate to adjust your time you will get a sudden jump in clock time -- which may cause problems to other programmes. 2. I reported, that my completely raw (i.e. non-update) 11.4 Ubuntu did not adjust the clock correctly. We have released updates to NTP on 11.04. You *need* to apply them for us to be able to verify your issue. Neither Clint, nor I, can reproduce it on up-to-date 11.04. Unless you tell us more details (including what did not work, with output of commands, there is not much we can do. From the log: Setting up vsftpd (2.2.2-3ubuntu6.2) ... vsftpd group (ftp) already exists, doing nothing. vsftpd user (ftp) already exists, doing nothing. gpasswd: group 'ftp' does not exist in /etc/group dpkg: error processing vsftpd (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 3 So the postinst thinks the group ftp already exists while apparently it doesn't. @Julian: that changeset appears to be included in lm-sensors 3.3.0, which is now packaged in Debian. We're carrying a couple of deltas from Debian which is preventing a sync to the latest version. For libjpeg, I was able to use the libjpeg8-dev package and that resolved it.
