[Bug 826559] [NEW] phar executable missing

2011-08-15 Thread Christian Weiske
Public bug reported:

When installing PHP5.3.x from source, you get a phar command that can
be used to work with .phar files.

php5-cli does unfortunately not install it, but it should.

[Bug 826601] [NEW] FFe: multiarch dependencies of libcurl, needed for proper functioning of flashplugin-installer

2011-08-15 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

Only upon removing ia32-libs from my system have I discovered that
flashplugin-nonfree does not work unless a 32-libt libcurl is available
that it can dlopen (bug #780573). libcurl itself is multiarch-ready,
but three of its dependencies are not: librtmp0, libldap-2.4-2, and
libssl1.0.0.

Risk of regression from openldap and openssl conversion is somewhat
higher than the risk from the other two sets of multiarch FFes
requested, because these libraries are lower in the stack and we're now
a few days farther after Feature Freeze. Although none of these
libraries have plugin paths, I know for certain that php5 is going to
regress (FTBFS) because it uses both openssl and openldap and its build
system is not multiarch-proof. There may be other similar issues
elsewhere in the archive that I don't know about. Best chance of
finding those regressions, given the broad scope of the reverse-build-
dependencies, would be to have any FFe included in an archive rebuild.

The benefit of this change is that it is most assuredly the last piece
needed in order to cross-install flashplugin-viewer with
nspluginwrapper, taking out another significant cause of ia32-libs
installation on end users systems.

2011-08-15 Thread Martin Pitt
Steve says that while PHP's build system is ugly, and library paths need
to be hand-edited in the m4 files, it's not a problem to fix it.

As this just missed FF by three days, at this point I consider this
appropriate still.

[Bug 823711] Re: libvirt version 0.9.2-4ubuntu8 failed to build on armel

2011-08-15 Thread Richard Sandiford
Matthias, thanks for the objects.

I can't see a way of getting the info we wanted on the command line,
but I hacked up a linker to print the symbol that causes each as-needed
object to be pulled in. The one that was causing libnl-route.so.3 to be
pulled in was __aeabi_d2ulz.

__aeabi_d2ulz is normally provided by libgcc. I notice that libnl-route
isn't linked against libgcc.so though, and presumably used the static
version instead. I wonder whether that was from linking libnl-route
with --static-libgcc, from some libtool weirdness, or something else.
A workaround would be to link against libgcc.so instead.

The bug is that __aeabi_d2ulz is defined as an alias of __fixunsdfdi.
__fixunsdfdi is correctly marked as hidden in libgcc.a,
but __aeabi_d2ulz isn't. So this is indeed a GCC bug.

[Bug 823711] Re: libvirt version 0.9.2-4ubuntu8 failed to build on armel

2011-08-15 Thread Richard Sandiford
The bug comes from config/arm using asm statements to define an alias,
rather than using an alias attribute. So even though libgcc2 tries the
belt-and-braces approach of -fvisibility=hidden and GCC visibility
pragmas, the alias still ends up having default visibility. Will test a
fix overnight.

[Bug 824947] Re: EC2 apt repository DNS resolution on VPC instances

2011-08-15 Thread Scott Moser
This is fix-released in maverick and later (bug 615545).
The only supported release that it would be present on would be 10.04.

You reported this using ubuntu-bug on a 11.04 instance. Are you
actually stating that you saw this bug with that ami?

Eric's suggestion does seem reasonable. The only change is that Canonical would
have to either:
a.) make the mirrors available from outside a region
b.) manually track announcements like
https://forums.aws.amazon.com/ann.jspa?annID=1097 and update security groups.

2011-08-15 Thread Peter Petrakis
In an addition to the MP issues, LVM was misconfigured. We attempt
to repair this on one of the blades but the config file just wouldn't *take*.
I suspect there was something else going, especially since we didn't
even have direct access to the console and was forced to relay
directives to the customer to execute.

I set up a mock test environment to test the the filtering by
PCI device.

Then, I commented out the existing filter directive on /etc/lvm/lvm.conf and
tested:
filter = [a|/dev/disk/by-path/pci-:00:00.9-scsi.*|, r/.*/ ]

and

filter = [a|/dev/disk/by-path/pci-:00:1f.2-scsi.*|, r/.*/ ]

lvmdiskscan confirms the filter directives.

I'm going to leave this part of the effort to customer support. There are
no bugs in LVM filtering, simply execution issues.

2011-08-15 Thread rpkrawczyk
Hi Edwin!

Why are you running 0.97? Latest is 0.97.2.
Even 0.97.1 contains a fix especially for your CPU (i7 with AVX extensions):

Hmm, packages.ubuntu.com says for libclamav for Natty:

Package libclamav6

* natty (libs): anti-virus utility for Unix - library
  0.97+dfsg-2ubuntu1.1 [security]: amd64 i386

Package libclamav6

* natty-updates (libs): anti-virus utility for Unix - library
  0.97+dfsg-2ubuntu1.1: amd64 i386

Is this a problem with packaging? Or did I bork my sources.list? Will
check when at home...

Ciao,
Robert

2011-08-15 Thread Imre Gergely
0.97.2 is not in Natty (yet). Could you please try it from the clamav
PPA and let us know if it solves your problem?

You should just

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-clamav/ppa

and then 'apt-get update', this should update your clamav install with
the one from the PPA (0.97.2).

Thanks.

First command should output info about your smb.conf file, and echo $?
should return 0 or 1, which indicates if the previous command (testparm)
 succeeded or failed.

Please, let me know if you find any problems doing that.

[Bug 784060] Re: freshclam fails in DNS query due to apparmor

Can I ask how you can reproduce this exactly? Running freshclam as root,
or as clamav user is working fine for me, and I don't have any DNS
recursor running on 127.0.0.1 .

Also, I'm no apparmor expert but there is a line in
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.freshclam, like this:

root@utest-mms32:~# cat /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.freshclam |grep nameser
  #include abstractions/nameservice

This includes some other basic rules which do allow read-only access to
/etc/resolv.conf:

root@utest-mms32:~# cat /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/nameservice |grep
resolv.conf
  /etc/resolv.confr,

At least this is what I have in the default usr.bin.freshclam on
Maverick.

it is that same bug
(thats fixed in 97.1 and 97.2).

Might be a good idea if the bug reporter could test the PPA package and

[Bug 826873] [NEW] ATOM refclock driver not compiled into ntpd

2011-08-15 Thread Weisi
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 11.04 hast PPS (pulse-per-second) support compiled into the kernel
(obviously to be used by ntpd).
ntpd utilizes the kernel-PPS support via its ATOM reference clock driver (nr.
22) which is NOT available (i.e. not compiled in) in ntpd.
Additionally, all PPS-related headers (e.g. timepps.h) are missing in Ubuntu
such that re-compiling with the ATOM refclock-driver is not possible either.

== in it's current state, PPS kernel support is NOT usable in Ubuntu.

[Bug 826601] Re: FFe: multiarch dependencies of libcurl, needed for proper functioning of flashplugin-installer

2011-08-15 Thread Steve Langasek
I'm very sorry to say that there is one more library needed for libcurl
multiarch installability, which apt hid from me until the other
libraries had all been fixed. libldap-2.4-2 depends on libsasl2-2, so
cyrus-sasl2 would also require a multiarch conversion to get the benefit
here.

cyrus-sasl2 has a moderate number (58) of reverse-build-deps, but again
aside from php5 these should all have already gone through the multiarch
transition due to other build-dependencies or have multiarch-safe build
systems. I can do a manual rebuild test to catch any new build failures
just to be sure.

cyrus-sasl2 does have a plugin path, but already has upstream support
for configuring multiple search directories. I've built locally with a
fallback path configured, and confirmed that modules will be correctly
found in either of /usr/lib/sasl2 or /usr/lib/$arch/sasl2 paths.

If we don't want to take cyrus-sasl2 on this FFe, then it's probably
better to roll back the multiarch support in openldap as well for this
cycle since that would give us various build failures without any actual
benefit. However, we're so very close now to having flashplugin
multiarch-able that I think we should go ahead here.

[Bug 823638] Re: Please put comment in /etc/default/libvirt-bin or remove it from the .deb

2011-08-15 Thread Serge Hallyn
Actually,

this was *not* by design. If the /etc/default/libvirt-bin file exists
it is supposed to be sourced. That is supposed to be the case at least
until the upstart config override files are supported.

This was actually a bug. The file must be re-sourced in each upstart
config section.

[Bug 808311] Re: ERROR: Invalid setting true for option LogInfected

2011-08-15 Thread Imre Gergely
This was fixed upstream in clamav-0.97.1-2-g4e9b71b . Since then, 0.97.2
came out, which is in Oneiric. I've tested it in Oneiric and it seems to
work ok.

Setting up clamav-milter (0.97.2+dfsg-1ubuntu1) ...

 [ OK ]
Processing triggers for libc-bin ...
ldconfig deferred processing now taking place

root@utest-oos32:~# grep LogClean /etc/clamav/clamav-milter.conf
LogClean Off

clamav 0.97.2 is in the process of SRU back to Natty (then backported to
Lucid and Hardy) (see bug #826828).

[Bug 350936] Re: Should shut down domains on system shutdown

2011-08-15 Thread Serge Hallyn
** Description changed:

+ ===
+ SRU Justification
+ 1. Impact: libvirt VMs must be manually shut down before host shutdown, else
they will be corrupted.
+ 2. How bug was addressed: the libvirt upstart job will now try to shut down
all VMs before the host reboots or shuts down
+ 3. patch: see the linked bzr tree (or
https://code.launchpad.net/~serge-hallyn/ubuntu/oneiric/libvirt/fix-shutdown/+merge/70245/+preview-diff/+files/preview.diff)
+ 4. TEST CASE: start a KVM vm under libvirt, then reboot the host.
+ 5. Regression potential: shutting down a host can now be delayed until the
VMs shut down or the shutdown attempts time out. This should be better than
having VMs corrupted, and won't happen if VMs are not running; but could
conceivably be seen as a regression.
+ ===
+
I'm using autostart feature of libvirtd (my guest defined in
/etc/libvirt/qemu/autostart/). It's starts normally, but if I reboot
server then guest fs will be corrupted becouse its cant stop in time:

WARNING: / was not properly dismounted

[Bug 217882] Re: libvirt does not provide a way for the host to share storage with qemu/kvm

2011-08-15 Thread Serge Hallyn
Zul or Daniel, could you say a bit more about what this means?

It certainly is possible to share storage between a libvirt host and kvm
host. As this bug is said to depend on a samba bug, I suspect the bug
title is not all there is to it.

Please update the bug description with an explanation of exactly what it
is you'd like to do.

[Bug 824947] Re: EC2 apt repository DNS resolution on VPC instances

2011-08-15 Thread Eric Hammond
Sorry, I should have been clear in the original bug report that I was
submitting it on behalf of Amazon and another customer and did not
experience it myself on that particular instance or AMI.

Also, I'm not sure that lack of a public IP address as described in
#615545 is sufficient to determine if you are in VPC now-a-days. When
VPC was launched, all instances were entirely private, but Amazon later
released the ability for a VPC instance to have a public IP address with
direct Internet access as an optional feature depending on the
customer's security policies.

Modifying Canonical's DNS seems like the best approach to support
current and future AWS services and features. Using a CNAME to an
Elastic IP Address transfers the burden to Amazon for determining how
the instance should access the apt repository (internal or external).

[Bug 826601] Re: FFe: multiarch dependencies of libcurl, needed for proper functioning of flashplugin-installer

2011-08-15 Thread Steve Langasek
No build regressions found as a result of cyrus-sasl2 conversion except
for the expected php5 (and php-sasl). Three packages failed to build
because of the qt multiarch conversion (expected, in progress); two
(qemu-kvm, qemu-linaro) ftbfs because of the pulseaudio multiarch
conversion; *cyrus-imapd-* fail trying to find the GSSAPI libraries,
probably due to missing build-dependencies; ekiga FTBFS due to a
libnotify API change. Three more universe packages FTBFS with
unsatisfiable build-deps. These will all be picked up in the archive

[Bug 793314] Re: package clamav-daemon 0.96.5 dfsg-1ubuntu1.10.04.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 1

2011-08-15 Thread Imre Gergely
This problem seems to be related to bug #766519. From the dmesg.txt log it
seems you have an Intel I5-2400 CPU with AVX extensions.
There is a fix for this problem in clamav 0.97.2, which is currently in the
clamav PPA. Please enable this PPA and check if the problems gets resolved.
0.97.2 will arrive to Lucid in a short while.

You can read up on how to activate a PPA here:

https://help.launchpad.net/Packaging/PPA

In a terminal you need to run the following command:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-clamav/ppa

And do an 'apt-get update' and 'apt-get upgrade' after that.

Please update this bugreport with your findings. Thanks.

[Bug 825608] Re: while dragging video into place program close

2011-08-15 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete
description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of
problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 826331] Re: Nautilus menu hidden under the Unity panel

2011-08-15 Thread Bowmore
I've noticed the same (similar) issue for unity-2d, gnome-panel
(fallback) and gnome-shell even though it's harder to reveil the
nautilus menu behind those main panels. So it's more likely a
nautilus/gtk issue.

[Bug 563895] Re: grub2 fails to boot or install when an LVM snapshot exists

2011-08-15 Thread Torsten Landschoff
While installation security updates to my lucid system, this made my
system unbootable last week. I spent half an hour today to make it
bootable again.

I booted from supergrubdisk which also failed to detect LVM (it usually
did). I ended up using Knoppix and noticed the leftover snapshot
(created via schroot) on boot, deleting it. I then tried to chroot into
my Lucid system which failed because Knoppix is i386 and my Lucid
install is amd64.

Rebooting with the Lucid installation medium, I was surprised that the
grub installation on my hard drive magically started to work again and
booted fine into my Lucid install.

I would deem this a really important problem and I am all for fixing it in
Lucid given that a patch exists.
BTW: The snapshot name created by schroot is quite long, as it contains a UUID.

[Bug 808064] Re: Please provide ia32-libs-dev dependency

2011-08-15 Thread Steve Langasek
libjpeg is already multiarch-capable in Ubuntu, and the only reason v4l-
utils wants ia32-libs is to build a biarch library package. The correct
solution here is for v4l-utils to stop building lib32v4l-0 and lib32v4l-
dev, which aren't used by anything else in the archive, and to instead
migrate to multiarch itself.

** Package changed: ia32-libs (Ubuntu) = v4l-utils (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: v4l-utils (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Triaged

** Summary changed:

- Please provide ia32-libs-dev dependency
+ v4l-utils: stop building biarch package

** Changed in: v4l-utils (Ubuntu)

[Bug 808064] Re: v4l-utils: stop building biarch package

2011-08-15 Thread Steve Langasek
Ah; correction, I see (when I run the right command) that ia32-libs,
wine1.2 and wine1.3 all look for lib32v4l. Still, addressing this in
ia32-libs would be a move in the wrong direction. I think this should
still be fixed by dropping lib32v4l and fixing up the resulting
breakage.

[Bug 791399] Re: package ia32-libs (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: pre-dependency problem - not installing ia32-libs loading over ubuntu 10 in a oracle vm host running on win

2011-08-15 Thread Steve Langasek
This looks like a bug in the package manager rather than in ia32-libs;
the upgrade shouldn't have attempted to install ia32-libs before the
pre-dependency was satisfied. The log shows the same problem affecting
lib32bz2-1.0.
