[Bug 752542] Re: ACPI DSDT info

2011-10-17 Thread Craig Ringer
On the Dell Vostro 3550, for which info is already attached, the ACPI
call \_SB.PCI0.PEG0.PEGP._OFF successfully disables the onboard radeon
card, or at least claims to and reduces power use dramatically.

After this acpi call is made, there's about a 10 second delay during
resume from sleep as the radeon driver hunts around for the card. It
looks like the intel video bios doesn't like the card disappearing
either, complaining:

[Bug 752542] Re: ACPI DSDT info

2011-10-17 Thread Craig Ringer
On the Dell Vostro 3550, for which info is already attached, the ACPI
call \_SB.PCI0.PEG0.PEGP._OFF successfully disables the onboard radeon
card, or at least claims to and reduces power use dramatically.

After this acpi call is made, there's about a 10 second delay during
resume from sleep as the radeon driver hunts around for the card. It
looks like the intel video bios doesn't like the card disappearing
either, complaining:

[ 238.692874] [drm:atom_op_jump] *ERROR* atombios stuck in loop for more than
5secs aborting
[ 238.692878] [drm:atom_execute_table_locked] *ERROR* atombios stuck executing

[ 238.692884] [drm:atom_execute_table_locked] *ERROR* atombios stuck executing

then repeatedly

so be careful when turning off secondary video hardware.

The tool you've used to create the USB image of Ubuntu did not copy all
the needed files for installation. You need /casper/filesystem.size on
the USB disk for the installation to complete.

[Bug 876309] [NEW] Banshee 2.2.0-1ubuntu2 in active Background mode does not show any symbol on the screen image

2011-10-17 Thread Detlef Lechner
Public bug reported:

My Banshee 2.2.0-1ubuntu2 is playing music pieces one after the other but does
not show any symbol of its activity on the screen image, neither when tabbing
Alt+Tab nor in the top screen line to the right nor in the bottom right.
In contrast, even NetworkManager leaves a symbol on the screen image.
I expect that Banshee shows a small symbol on the screen image if actively
playing music even if Banshee is in background mode.

[Bug 820881] Re: [i945] Heavy screen and font corruption on GMA950

2011-10-17 Thread Simon Butcher
Some observations:
running on a 1GB RAM machine, i see this corruption in a unity3d session while
i still have plenty (250MB) of free RAM.
The bug is particularly prevalent on Unity3D menus and text.
I cannot reproduce this when running uncomposited Unity2D session

Since you have already made the changes to your own local copy of the code,

I doubt anyone would object if you were to attach the diff to this bug.

[Bug 876313] [NEW] empathy failing to make audio or video calls and also to establish audio stream or video stream when incoming call from gtalk contact

2011-10-17 Thread sn0m
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 11.10

  Installed: 3.2.0-0ubuntu1

  Version table:
 l 3.2.0-0ubuntu1 0

I'd expect to be able to make a audiocall or a videocall with my gtalk
contacts. If I right click on a contact the options are chat, audiocall,
videocall but if I try to make an audio or video call i get error.
Also when a contact in gtalk calls me, i try to answer but after empathy tries
to establish connection for a bit, I get error establishing audiostream or
videostream.

[Bug 875956] Re: Clicking User Accounts closes System Settings

2011-10-17 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 874588] Re: ld --as-needed breaks implicit rules in make

2011-10-17 Thread Matthias Klose
why use LDFLAGS for libraries in the first place? if the implicit rule
offers to use LDLIBS, then please use it. This is not different than the
packages using LDFLAGS for libraries outside implicit rules.

[Bug 861268] Re: text corruption in terminals (xterm, urxvt) and emacs

2011-10-17 Thread James Hunt
Tested with metacity (metacity --replace) configured as the
compositing manager (gconf-editor /apps/metacity/general and checking
compositing_manager).

In a plain gnome-terminal, I'm still seeing the problem when recalling
command-line history (ctrl+r and start typing). The corruption however
disappears when the window size is changed, for example when maximising
it.

[Bug 875941] Re: Crash when trying to open media devices properties

[Bug 732526] Re: Dash - Drag and drop app install from App Lens to Launcher is broken

2011-10-17 Thread John Lea
** Description changed:

When in the App Lens (and Dash home), the user should be able to drag
and drop application icons to the Launcher to install the application.
+ This same interaction should also be triggered when a user clicks on a
+ 'Available for download' application.

+
  Desired solution:

  - dragging and dropping a application from the 'Apps available to
download category header' onto the Launcher should:

  1) add the application icon to the launcher in a grayed out state
  2) install the application.

As the application is installed, the app icon should fill with colour.
When installation is complete, the icon should be in its normal state
fully filled with colour. Remember to also review bug
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity-design/+bug/676453 for details of the
  installing animation.

[Bug 875847] Re: Cannot upgrade to ubuntu 11.10 - could not calculate the upgrade

2011-10-17 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Thanks for your report. Packages from PPA are blocking the upgrade. Please
remove them before trying the upgrade again.
ppa-purge may help you with this task.

[Bug 875368] Re: Repeated crashes during clean install of XUbuntu 11.10

2011-10-17 Thread Albin T
I ran the live cd from an external harddrive using the Grub2 feature of
booting directly from an iso using a custom grug.cfg on the external
hdd. I.e. I installed grub2 on the external hdd bootsector, customised
/boot/grub/grub.cfg and added the iso to the external hdd.

There was no initial screen where I could check for defects but I did compare
the md5 of the iso file (on the external hdd) to the ones at:
http://se.archive.ubuntu.com/mirror/cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/11.10/release/MD5SUMS

It may be a hardware issue though. I finally managed to install after
setting the bios to safe-defaults and using a different partition on
the hdd. If it helps, I can try to recreate the problem again to
determine if it was the bios settings or the hdd.
