[Bug 874981] Re: Please merge/sync mcollective from debian wheezy

2011-11-10 Thread Dave Walker
Hi Marc,

Thanks for the debdiff. Great work.

I did have a couple of comments.

I'm not sure I agree that the debian/control diff of the Description fields is
ideal, is this required? For example:
-Description: Marionette Collective clustering framework - server
+Description: build server orchestration or parallel job execution systems

debian/changelog: Could do with a more descriptive entry, it doesn't
really describe what has changed or been dropped.

debian/mcollective-middleware.postinst: Calls the service command directly,
it's going to be safer to do
- service activemq stop
- service activemq start
+  invoke-rc.d activemq stop || :
+ invoke-rc.d activemq start

Thanks!

[Bug 614322] Re: libvirt not recognizing NUMA architecture

2011-11-10 Thread Ralf Spenneberg
I can confirm this and I am very dissapointed that still after more than a year
this issue has not been fixed.
I am currently running Ubuntu precise (development, the next lts) on
HP DL 585 G2 with 4 Dual Cores and thus 4 Numa cells.
Numactl shows the hardware:
# numactl --show
policy: default
preferred node: current
physcpubind: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
cpubind: 0 1 2 3
nodebind: 0 1 2 3
membind: 0 1 2 3

virsh does not display the numa information:
# virsh nodeinfo
CPU model: x86_64
CPU(s): 8
CPU frequency: 1000 MHz
CPU socket(s): 4
Core(s) per socket: 2
Thread(s) per core: 1
NUMA cell(s):1
Memory size: 32948228 kB
# virsh freecell 0
error: this function is not supported by the connection driver: NUMA memory
information not available on this platform

Just using numactl is no option if the guests are to be migrated. The
numa-placement needs to be handled by libvirt!

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.

This does look like some corrupted packages were downloaded. Could you
check to make sure that you have enough space on your disk by doing 'df
-h' (and paste the result here)?

Assuming you have enough space, to continue you should:

   1. sudo dpkg --configure -a
   2. apt-get clean # to make sure you remove all corrupt packages
   3. apt-get update
   4. apt-get dist-upgrade

[Bug 888552] [NEW] cyrus-sasl2 denies authentication if host name unresolvable

2011-11-10 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Public bug reported:

This just cost me about 5 hours of debugging. cyrus-sasl2 does not
authenticate against a server if the hostname is not dns-resolvable.

After upgrading to oneirc, I wondered, why the mail client mutt could access
an imap server on three on my systems, but not on the fourth machine. It did
not even try to authenticate after the imap server's greeting message and
aborted with
Error allocating SASL connection , although the configuration files were
identical.

After hours of debugging and analyzing with strace, tcpdump and source
code I found that the reason was that the machine where it did not work
was not known to my DNS name server. A query to it's (plain) hostname
therefore failed. After modifying DNS to give an answer, SASL worked.
Before, sasl_client_new() just gave a -1 as a result code.

This is broken by design. I did not even work if the server was at
127.0.0.1, and the machine and the authentication should really work
even without DNS resolving.

[Bug 614322] Re: libvirt not recognizing NUMA architecture

2011-11-10 Thread Serge Hallyn
Hi,

noone seems to have commented on the reason why numa is disabled in
libvirt. In Ubuntu, both libnuma1 and numactl are in universe. So in
order toenable those in libvirt (which is in main), we would have to do
a main inclusion request (MIR) for those.

But, they are also disabled in debian. It seems worth opening a bug
against the debian package to inquire as to why it is disabled there.

[Bug 614322] Re: libvirt not recognizing NUMA architecture

2011-11-10 Thread Serge Hallyn
Regarding the change from Opinion to Confirmed, ordinarily I'd object,
but in this case I agree - this *is* a bug, whose resolution potentially
depends on some other bugs. I don't object to numa being enabled if the
underlying bugs get fixed, so if you have time, by all means please do
work on this bug, preferably through upstream and debian. It's not an
opinion. Thanks, Ralf.

Note that in the last year and a half, the underlying bugs may have even
been fixed upstream, so whoever looks into this, I suggest finding a
test case (it's not in the changelog) and re-testing.

[Bug 888618] [NEW] ec2-ami-tools has hard coded location list

2011-11-10 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

ec2-ami-tools has a hard coded list of locations and regions.
This is silly, and makes a new release of the tools required for using
something as simple as ec2-upload-bundle.

I've put a patch into the ppa version at lp:~aws-tools-
dev/ubuntu/precise/ec2-ami-tools that hopefully addresses this, but test
is needed at the moment.

[Bug 888637] [NEW] unneeded group write permissions for freshclam network files

2011-11-10 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Public bug reported:

While not a security problem because these all have group 'root', it would be
good to get these fixed up:

[Bug 880339] Re: AppArmor profile needs update

2011-11-10 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Hi Jurgen,

Thank you for taking the time to report bugs and trying to make Ubuntu
Server better.

Unfortunately, I have been unable to reproduce this bug report in
oneiric. I have installed mysql-server in a clean ubuntu installation
and I have not received the apparmor errors and mysql server is working
as expected.

Logs of apparmor show:

Nov 10 13:12:04 * kernel: [11190.491403] type=1400
audit(1320948724.601:31): apparmor=STATUS operation=profile_replace
name=/usr/sbin/mysqld pid=1056 comm=apparmor_parser
Nov 10 13:12:04 * kernel: [11190.518857] type=1400
audit(1320948724.629:32): apparmor=STATUS operation=profile_replace
name=/usr/sbin/mysqld pid=1087 comm=apparmor_parser

Are you still experiencing this issue?

For now, I'll mark this bug as incomplete until further confirmation of
the bug report is received.

Please don't do that. Suddenly creating bugs like this against a
bazillion packages spams lots of people, and really isn't cool
(especially when you haven't discussed your idea with anybody, and there
isn't really much hope you'll ever find anybody to do this for you)

[Blueprint servercloud-p-cloud-live] Goals and future of cloud-live project

2011-11-10 Thread Robbie Williamson
Blueprint changed by Robbie Williamson:

Whiteboard set to:
= STATUS =
http://cloud.ubuntu.com/2011/10/ubuntu-cloud-live-11-10-is-available/

= GOALS/IDEAS =
 * Use remaining space on the stick for glance storage
 * Juju on a stick (some simple charms to run on the cloud-live... ) Not sure
its possible with ttylinux
 * Need a cloud-image (in addtion to ttylinux [http://launchpad.net/cirros])
   - smoser asks to please replace with cirros
 * Differentiate/discuss devstack
 * Installer (similar in purpose to devstack)?
Pretty much thumbs downed by all.
 * Live session on a Server install CD
 * which services can we reasonably provide: compute, image service, object
service, identity, horizons, etc...
 * default to LXC (and run a full ubuntu)
  * Exercises LXC
  *
 * Two avail zones: kvm, lxc (wishlist)

cloud-live exposes people to Ubuntu Cloud Infrastructure. (Pull it out
and use it periodically/experiment.) What does a cloud infrastructure
feel like.

Instead of GettingStarted, have Go and a gettingstarted

Target a 4G RAM as a testing case (min) and preferably more. 16 GB disk...
Use existing disk space? (loopback, external disk, etc. Cleanup afterwards.)
From a kvm/virtual machine launch, it is typical

A sibling project of juju-live. Juju is very network intensive. bzr repo
and lots of apt-get.

orchestra-live-provisioning (with real world installs as remnants.)
Probably drop rsyslog, etc. With sufficient squid cache to make the
install more or less run without outside network.

cobbler dev system (smoser can explain).

Work Items:
[ivoks] Glance storage on remaining space on USB drive
[ivoks] Use LXC by default
Need a cloud-image (in addtion to ttylinux)
[ivoks] wifi vs wired network as live interface (workout remaning issues)
[ivoks] integrate dashboard, identity, swift (maybe?)
[ivoks] persistent for /etc/nova/nova.conf
[kirkland] orchestra-live image

Sorry I purged the dovecot-common and downgraded before making this
report.

Re: [Bug 888662] Re: Web browsers should share the cache

2011-11-10 Thread Axel Beckert
Hi Fred,

Fred wrote:
Oh sorry, I just thought it was a really good idea.

It actually is a good _idea_, just not a very realistic one. :-(

Even all the Mozilla based browsers aren't sharing their caches
despite the file format is the same. And it seems as if this wanted by
Mozilla for some reason.

Because I thought it was so dumb that all web browsers use cache and
they all fetch the same stuff, but store it in different places.

You basically just asked at the wrong place: No Linux distribution has
the power to convince all the browser makers, especially Mozilla and
Google (who both care a shit about distributions IMHO), to do such a
thing. And it's the browser makers where this should start. Maybe the
W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) is a better place to dump/plant this
wish/idea.

[Bug 884908] Re: Package dependencies need work

2011-11-10 Thread Marc Cluet
Update to mcollective-1.2.1-0ubuntu3 that solves the dependency issues

** Patch added: mcollective_1.2.1-0ubuntu3.debdiff

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mcollective/+bug/884908/+attachment/2592650/+files/mcollective_1.2.1-0ubuntu3.debdiff

** Description changed:

This is actually a bug report for mcollective, mcollective-middleware
  and mcollective-client.

The package dependencies need to be looked at because as they stand now
on Ubuntu 11.10 oneiric, they are not correct.

What I have discovered so far is:

mcollective-middleware need to depend on mcollective, otherwise the
  directory /etc/mcollective is not created.

At least mcollective-client needs to depends on 'rubygems'. Without it you
receive the following:
- $ mc-find-hosts
+ $ mc-find-hosts
/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/mcollective.rb:1:in `require': no such file to load --
rubygems (LoadError)
- from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/mcollective.rb:1
- from /usr/sbin/mc-find-hosts:3:in `require'
- from /usr/sbin/mc-find-hosts:3
+ from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/mcollective.rb:1
+ from /usr/sbin/mc-find-hosts:3:in `require'
+ from /usr/sbin/mc-find-hosts:3

I believe mcollective-middleware also needs to depend on rubygems,
because the above error was replaced with silence after installing
rubygems. Once I restarted the mcollective service, silence was replaced
  with the correct functionality.

Please let me know if you need more information.

  Peter
+
+ SRU Justification (Marc Cluet) ---
+
+ TEST CASE:
+ 1. Install mcollective-middleware, it won't install mcollective
+ 2. Install mcollective-clients, some of the plugins will fail due to the lack
of rubygems, libsystemu-ruby or ruby-json
+
+ Regression potential:
+ It's just adding dependencies, regression potential almost 0.
+
+ Course of action for oneiric:
+ Add the missing dependencies.

[Bug 884908] Re: Package dependencies need work

2011-11-10 Thread Ubuntu Foundation's Bug Bot
The attachment mcollective_1.2.1-0ubuntu3.debdiff of this bug report
has been identified as being a patch in the form of a debdiff. The
ubuntu-sponsors team has been subscribed to the bug report so that they
can review and hopefully sponsor the debdiff. In the event that this is
in fact not a patch you can resolve this situation by removing the tag
'patch' from the bug report and editing the attachment so that it is not
flagged as a patch. Additionally, if you are member of the ubuntu-
sponsors please also unsubscribe the team from this bug report.

I think you could do the same, but you should ask on the Zorin forums
for assistance. The Ubuntu project only supports Ubuntu itself and
officially supported derivatives, Zorin OS is not among these (it is
fairly independent).

[Bug 851695] Re: please bring back padevchooser

2011-11-10 Thread Alexey Rusaleev
I used padevchooser before upgrade to 11.10. I need it to use speakers
of my home computer from my other home computer over network. I need a
simple GUI to select the server.

Comments do not say anything about how to enable the functionality I
need. See comments #4 and #5.

Here is a workaround.
I added this line at the bottom of /etc/profile
export PULSE_SERVER=10.20.30.40
10.20.30.40 is IP address of server.

It is not GUI but it works for me.

[Bug 691766] Re: HP Color LaserJet cp2025dn not using preferred driver

2011-11-10 Thread Till Kamppeter
In Ubuntu, the PostScript PPD files of HPLIP are supplied via a
compressed PPD archive. The archive is

/usr/lib/cups/driver/hplip

You see its content via

/usr/lib/cups/driver/hplip list

and extract a PPD from it via

/usr/lib/cups/driver/hplip cat PPD URI

To temporarily deactivate it, do

sudo chmod -x /usr/lib/cups/driver/hplip

and reactivate it via

sudo chmod +x /usr/lib/cups/driver/hplip

Public bug reported:

...which, when specified, should install eatmydata in the chroot and set

Useful for build chroots where the build artifacts matter and what
happens in the chroot doesn't.

(Note that eatmydata was only included in the release going back to
natty. It was backported back to lucid, but sbuild chroots generally
don't include backports)

[Bug 888438] [NEW] Update-manager window does behave abnormal under unity

2011-11-10 Thread BeowulfOF
Public bug reported:

beowulf@seashell:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 11.10
Release:11.10
beowulf@seashell:~$ apt-cache policy update-manager
update-manager:
  Installiert: 1:0.152.25.4
  Kandidat:1:0.152.25.4
  Versionstabelle:
 *** 1:0.152.25.4 0

Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 1:0.152.25 0
500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main amd64 Packages

update-manager does behave annoying under unity, since it pops up to
front, but does not activate its window. If the user is active in e.g.
Firefox while update-manager pops up, you cannot just switch [alt]+[tab]
to get back to firefox, because you still are in active firefox but have
the update-manager window in front. You have to activate the update-
manager window first before you can change back to firefox or hide the
window of update-manager.

I'd expect, that wenn update-manager pops up its window, it activates
the window. There's no point in having a window popping up to front when
it is not activated. Ideally update-manager should not pop up to front
but use the urgent-messaging type of unity to show that there is
something going on.

[Bug 888039] Re: Gradual degradation in desktop performance.

2011-11-10 Thread Rocko
OK, I just experienced the slowdown and tried the following:

1. Test glxspheres: ~30-40 fps

2. Open ccsm and disable the unity plugin. I think that restarts compiz
but it restarts without unity (all the other windows are still there).

3. Test glxspheres: ~60 fps

4. From ccsm, re-enable the unity plugin. Again, compiz seems to restart
and this time unity is back.

5. Test glxspheres: ~30-40 fps.

How are you? I found a website: www.xandeal.com,

very low. Their compamy is holding a sales promotion for
celebrating the coming Chrismas Days and the New year's Day, you
can enjoy free shipping cost if you purchase during the promotion
activity. Hope you can seek some electonics you want. I have

[Bug 865805] Re: since last update xserver hangs at startup

2011-11-10 Thread karl
It is still an issue. Although I do not know to what it is related. Fact is
that no display-manager is starting when not hiding plymouth splash screen via
arrow-up or escape. Xserver is running, with gdm I get the busy-cursor, with
lightdm I get the black cross after a while.
I will do a fresh install in near future. I will have a look if the bug still
exists then. If not I will close the bug.

Thank you
Karl

For me it definitely looks like the API is changed in the python's gdk

 Ok good. Now install update-manager:

 sudo apt-get install update-manager

 See if it works properly.

[Bug 872711] Re: Kernel does not report some USB printers correctly, making them not being detected by CUPS

2011-11-10 Thread Till Kamppeter
Can everyone who has still problems with printing from his USB printer
after booting the new kernel try the new CUPS package in my PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~till-kamppeter/+archive/ppa)? Simply follow the
instructions under Adding this PPA to your system and then update your
Oneiric system.

[Bug 872483] Re: laser printer only prints first job correct

2011-11-10 Thread Till Kamppeter
Aurimas, I have made a CUPS package now which uses the patch of
http://www.cups.org/str.php?L3965 instead of doing the USB device reset.
It is in my PPA now.

Can everyone who suffers/suffered this bug try the new CUPS package in
my PPA (https://launchpad.net/~till-kamppeter/+archive/ppa)? Simply
follow the instructions under Adding this PPA to your system and then
update your Oneiric system. Especially also try this package if the SRU
(cups 1.5.0-8ubuntu4) already solved the problem for you, to check
whether the alternative, less invasive fix also works for you.
