[Bug 833994] Re: debian-installer does not support https when using with preseed files

2011-11-28 Thread lezbak
Understandable, but as for that, the bulk certificates could be passed
on as a bootloader parameter to keep it simple and more dynamic. You can
protect your self against arp spoofing if you have proper security (eg
arp spoof protection and/or private vlan in your switches).

I would not agree on that, with proper security in the environment you
actually raise it allot by not sending the hashed root password over the
network in clear text.

I would like to keep that still with in a encrypted session, are you
that comfortable to post your password that is sha-512 hashed on a
public forum?

[Bug 897120] [NEW] apache2-suexec-custom changes permissions on suexec binary

2011-11-28 Thread Nick_Hill
Public bug reported:

I have a server where the group ID for the suexec binary is set to other
than www-data.

Whenever an update occurs, all web sites with scripting which depend on suexec
break. This can happen at any time as I have automatic updates enabled. Once I
receive complaints, I must log in and re-set the GID on /var/lib/apache2/suexec

I consider the group ID on the suexec binary as a system setting. This system
setting is wiped on update.

Please change the package scripts so that they preserve the ownership
and permissions on suexec.

Description:Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS

[Bug 897161] [NEW] Apache2 incorrectly sends HTTP_REQUEST_TIME_OUT to many requests

2011-11-28 Thread Francis Rath
Public bug reported:

As it is fairly difficult to debug 408-errors on a live server (for me
at least) I am not sure about the cause of this, but it happens in about
3% of all requests since upgrading from 2.2.14-5ubuntu8 to
2.2.14-5ubuntu8.7 (about 10.000 times yesterday).

I have tried disabling the reqtimeout-module, but to no avail. Have also
tried with KeepAlive On/Off (I have it enabled for my site that gets
frequent POSTs from active users).

Downgrading to 2.2.14-5ubuntu8 fixed the problem, and after looking
through the changelogs I am suspecting a change in server/protocol.c to
be the source of the problem:
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/84878468/apache2_2.2.14-5ubuntu8.6_2.2.14-5ubuntu8.7.diff.gz

Please let me know if I can give any more helpful information. This has
been temporairly fixed by forbidding the problematic version and
downgrading.

[Bug 894279] Re: cloud-init fails to fetch metadata with OpenStack

2011-11-28 Thread Scott Moser
2 seconds might have been low, I agree, however the following works fine:
 $ for s in cnn.com brickies.net slashdot.org espn.com; do
python -c 'import urllib2, sys; req=urllib2.Request(sys.argv[1]); \
 resp=urllib2.urlopen(req, timeout=float(sys.argv[2])); resp.read()'
 http://$s; .1
   done

That does the same urllib2.urlopen with a timeout that cloud-init does.
Note the '.1' second timeout for all of those sites that are doing loads
more than serving a 10s of bytes of text (ok, brickies.net is not, but it
is also on shared hosting). I had to set that to .08 to get failures on
any of the listed sites. 3 seconds (the default in the code) should be
plenty.

But... we can up it,and it probably was arbitrarily low.

we had to set a timeout otherwise there is none, and due to the fact
that cloud-init retries the MD again and again (giving it time to come
up due to bugs/bad-design in EC2 and Eucalyptus). If the address
169.254.169.254 has been firewalled off, you potentially hang indefinitely
trying to connect (in the case where you're not running in a cloud).

I urge anyone interested in this to help to fix this bug in openstack.
There is a proposed solution at http://pad.lv/851159 although I have not
tested. Additionally, it is suggested (by vish and others) that you can
reduce this slowness by running an API server on each of the nodes. I
don't know how feasible that is. It is simply absurd to not be able to
respond to requests to the metadata service in less than 3 seconds (or 5
or 10).

The issue we were trying to protect against really was non-cloud
installation of cloud-init. Ie, in 10.04 or maybe maverick, install of
cloud-init on your laptop, and reboot would be blocked boot by cloud-init
for something like 1500 seconds. No fun.

Regarding your suggestion of 60 second timeout, and 5 retries, that
would also be insufficient. There is a case where the metadata service
isn't ready yet (this occurred on Eucalyptus and we've also seen it on
EC2, although not recently on either). In that case, the connections
would immeditely get connection refused, so the 5 retries would occur
within 5 seconds, and never find the Metadata service.

[Bug 607039] Re: NFS4 automount using replicated servers doesn't work

2011-11-28 Thread Stefan Bader
I am not sure whether mount.nfs4 ever did load the right module. At least it
does not do it back to Lucid and I have not checked farther back. It may be
that nfs once was built in and thus avoided all the issues. The modprobe call
happens in mount. Which takes the fstype as the module to load. So I think the
way forward is either /etc/modprobe.d alias definition or having the module
itself declare that alias. I'll try to suggest the latter but I am not sure how
acceptable that is upstream.
The alias is simpler, but question would be which package this should go into.

[Bug 893550] Re: Oneiric fails to boot after upgrade from Natty if /etc/fstab contains a cgroup mount entry

2011-11-28 Thread Serge Hallyn
** Description changed:

I used LXC on this machine. Therefore I had to add a cgroup mount and added
the recommended line
  none /cgroup cgroup defaults 0 0
to /etc/fstab. This results in an unbootable system after upgrade to Oneiric.
Apparently the boot just stops when it comes to mounting the entries in
/etc/fstab.

  I would expect that either
  a) the system doesn't hang when this is added to /etc/fstab
  b) on upgrade the package detects this condition and removes/comments the
according line in /etc/fstab so that the system is still bootable.
+
+ SRU Justification:
+ 1: Impact: failure to boot!
+ 2: Development fix: don't start cgroup-lite if cgroups are mounted by fstab
+ 3: Stable fix: same as development fix
+ 4: Test case:
+a. add cgroup entry to /etc/ftab, i.e.
+ mkdir /cgroup
+ echo cgroup /cgroup cgroup defaults 0 0 /etc/fstab
+b. install cgroup-lite
+c. reboot
+ 5: Regression potential: if the patch were wrong, we might end up with
cgroup-lite
+not mounting cgroups when it should.

[Bug 887410] Re: plymouth ask-for-passphrase

2011-11-28 Thread Jay R. Wren
Clint,

I expect a prompt to be displayed to stdout and prompt for input on
stdin. What actually happens is that I start apache via ssh and the
prompt is displayed via plymouth on the server's console which I rarely
see.

It would be nice if the check was not just if plymouth is running and
available but instead if plymouth is running and available and the
request was from a tty on which plymouth can prompt a request. Or
maybe even just and we are not on a pseudo terminal

Here is my patch for ask-for-password in /usr/share/apache2
@@ -23,7 +23,7 @@

prompt=Apache needs to decrypt your SSL Keys for $sitename ($keytype)

 echo $prompt | logger
 exec plymouth ask-for-password --prompt=$prompt

[ 5] 0.0-10.0 sec 23.2 GBytes 20.0 Gbits/sec

However, looking back at your results, look at the TCP window sizes. They
are similar to mine in all but the degenerate case, where it is 1.25Mb.

Could you show the values of the following files:

   /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_rmem
   /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_wmem

on both hosts?

[Bug 875659] Re: RT3090 wireless conflict with acer_wmi

2011-11-28 Thread Ike Panhc
So the problem now is that hard block of phy0 (which is registered by
wireless driver) has wrong status. If we can prove this is nothing about
the acer-wmi, then we can have the patch merged and try to fix the
problem in wireless driver. If the incorrect status is because of
patched acer-wmi, then we need to find out how it is affected and fix
it.

[Bug 897104] [NEW] gnome-contacts does not appear in the Dash

2011-11-28 Thread Frederik Elwert
Public bug reported:

The gnome-contacts application does not appear in the Dash. I searched
for “contacts”, “gnome-contacts” and “kontakte” (localized name), but
the application does not show. However, I can start it using Alt+F2 and
typing “gnome-contacts”.

This might be because of the “OnlyShowIn=GNOME” entry in the desktop
file. I honestly don’t understand why one would want an application to
only show in one desktop environment, especially since this is not a
system settings application or something closely tied to the desktop.
Maybe it’s because the new GNOME Apps are “Exclusive to the GNOME
experience”, as the devs state.[1]

However, since Unity is a shell for GNOME, I would expect GNOME Apps to
be accessible via Dash. So maybe the right way would be to patch the
desktop file to include Unity in the OnlyShowIn list, and to talk to
upstream if this should become a default for GNOME Apps.

[Bug 896647] Re: Ubuntu Boot halts if a windows partition is hibernated

2011-11-28 Thread Steve Langasek
When booting Ubuntu 11.04, if there is an NTFS partition in the
/etc/fstab file set to automount during boot, and if there is a
hibernated windows system on that partition... then the boot will halt
permanently, waiting for user input to a question about proceeding.

What question does it ask? I don't know what question would be asked in
these circumstances or why.

It is a bug because so many users now do not have functioning visuals
during boot due to the complexities of Plymouth - in one way or another
many users have blank or unresponsive screens during boot

If you find this to be the case, you should file a bug report about the
lack of functioning visuals that you're seeing. I don't believe this is
actually the case with 11.04 or 11.10.

At the very least the prompt should have a 60 second time-out so that if
there is no user input (for example if the user cant see the text and
therefore does not know that input is being expected) then the default
 choice should be made.

In all situations where mountall will wait indefinitely for an answer,
there is no default choice at all. Such a prompt already indicates that
the filesystem is somehow broken, and there's not enough available
information for mountall to automatically say which of the options, if
any, is safe. The only thing we can do in such a situation is ask for
user input.

But again, I don't know what prompt you're seeing in the case of this
windows partition. There may be a bug in mountall here, but we need
more information to say for sure.

** Package changed: plymouth (Ubuntu) = mountall (Ubuntu)

[Bug 833994] Re: debian-installer does not support https when using with preseed files

2011-11-28 Thread lezbak
Understandable, but as for that, the bulk certificates could be passed
on as a bootloader parameter to keep it simple and more dynamic. You can
protect your self against arp spoofing if you have proper security (eg
arp spoof protection and/or private vlan in your switches).

I would not agree on that, with proper security in the environment you
actually raise it allot by not sending the hashed root password over the
network in clear text.

I would like to keep that still with in a encrypted session, are you
that comfortable to post your password that is sha-512 hashed on a
public forum?

[Bug 894544] Re: action plugin regex failure

2011-11-28 Thread Laszlo Pandy
I have no problem committing this fix if it works for you. I am just
very curious as to why I cannot reproduce it.

All the history items come from Gtk's wait_for_text():
http://www.pygtk.org/docs/pygtk/class-gtkclipboard.html#method-gtkclipboard--wait-for-text

This method says it returns a string or None. So I don't see how it
could be anything else.

[Bug 882956] Re: [Oneiric] [Dell XPS M1330] Gnome session exits with XI_BadDevice error

2011-11-28 Thread erny
Yesterday I was testing the suspend / wakeup cycle during nearly 2
hours. Currently it is much less frequent and very difficult to
reproduce. I just got one gnome crash at the beginning. I tried to get a
backtrace of gnome-session process crash, but I wasn't able to do it.
This morning I got a wakeup crash again, but I hadn't the debugger
attached. Sorry. (Now I'll try to run it with a debugger attached
whenever I can using a script.)

It has definitely to do with some X input device (uvcvideo, psmouse, usbhid).
Some more notes:
 * I had ThinkFinger package installed until after upgrade to 11.10. I removed
it and the system seems more stable.
 * I used GDK_SYNCHRONIZE=1 to see if it makes a difference, that seems not to
be the case

Regards.
Erny

[Bug 861061] Re: [regression] Unity makes 3D apps run much slower.

2011-11-28 Thread Mario
Hi,

Sorry my English

For if it helps someone:

I had opened the bug Bug # 892544, but I think my problem is exactamene
the same as this bug.

This bug Occurs on a clean install of 11.10 [64 bits] with ATI Radeon
5770 graphics card (Evergreen) and radeon driver

My system works correctly the first time you start, but after resume
suspend everything becomes slow.

How to play:

Go to Unity Dash, show all applications, move icons up and down with the
scroll bar, suspend and resume, perform the same operation and notice
that is very slow.

First boot, out the -- vblank_mode=0 glxgears:

16186 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3237.179 FPS
17110 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3421.557 FPS
19193 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3838.410 FPS
16229 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3245.769 FPS

After the suspend/resume, out the -- vblank_mode=0 glxgears:

417 frames in 5.0 seconds = 83.148 FPS
299 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.721 FPS
299 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.721 FPS
299 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.719 FPS

[Bug 896916] Re: /dev/.initramfs triggers warnings in rkhunter

2011-11-28 Thread Thabo Ntitsane
If one sets in /etc/rkhuhnter.conf
ALLOWHIDDENDIR=/dev/.initramfs
it still generates a warning, as it is a file (well, symlink) not a directory.

If one sets
ALLOWHIDDENFILE=/dev/.initramfs
rkhunter refuses to run, because it should be a directory.

It would be great to see an update of rkhunter in oneiric server to
solve this.

[Bug 897102] Re: precise can't boot with linux 3.2.0.1.1

2011-11-28 Thread Brad Figg
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is such a request.

We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel
than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test
again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still
exists or not.

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to
Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from
Incomplete to Fix Released.

If you want this bot to quit automatically requesting kernel tests, add
a tag named: bot-stop-nagging.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.

I think we are on to something. The issue seems to be that long CERT
record, but we're not 100% sure.

@Simon: would it be possible to remove that CERT record from the zone so
 we can try another AXFR?

The CERT record is used in production, so I can't remove it. What
problem do you have with the CERT record? This bug report should be
about the foo bar.josefsson.org domain with the TXT type. If PDNS
cannot handle CERT records (or generally, arbitrary unknown records),
that would be another bug that should be fixed first.

You should be able to AXFR the zone fine from kil.sjd.se:

jas@latte:~$ dig josefsson.org axfr @kil.sjd.se|grep ^foo
foo\032bar.josefsson.org. 14400 IN TXT Med space
jas@latte:~$

Thanks,
/Simon

[Bug 445622] Re: open document without respecting file association

2011-11-28 Thread Maarten Bezemer
I still have this problem with a freshly installed Kubuntu 11.10.
System Settings - File Associations shows the correct associations (I even
removed Ark without success)

The following problems seems to be present:
* When opening a xlsm or docx file, the dialog gives the option to open the
file with LibreOffice Calc/Writer. But when clicking this button Ark is started.
* When choosing another application and manually picking LibreOffice
Calc/Writer everything works as expected
* Updating the file association during manually picking LibreOffice does not
work for the next time

  * Shrink the default mozconfig right down so that we use mostly upstream
defaults, rather than overriding them with our own options. It is still
possible to override them though. We also drop the pkg-config checks in
debian/rules which allowed a fallback build configuration when dependencies
aren't satisfied. Really, the build should just fail here rather than
continuing in some undesirable fallback mode
- update debian/thunderbird-dev.links.in
- update debian/mozconfig.in
- update debian/control.in
- update debian/rules
  * Refresh build-depends, as this hasn't been done for a while:
- Drop patchutils, libxft-dev, libxinerama-dev, libgnome2-dev, sharutils
and bzip2. These don't appear to be needed
- Drop liborbit2-dev - only appears to be required if there is no libidl
- Add libglib2.0-dev, libext-dev, libfontconfig1-dev and libpango1.0-dev,
as the configure script checks for these directly
- Add minimum versions to libgconf2-dev, libgnomevfs2-dev, yasm and
  libgnomeui-dev
- Specify minimum versions for libnspr4-dev, libcairo2-dev, libsqlite3-dev
and libnss3-dev when using system versions of those libs
  * Introduce a branch config file (debian/config/branch.mk) which holds
settings which shouldn't be merged between branches (eg, whether
the crash reporter should be enabled)
- add debian/config/branch.mk
- update debian/rules
  * Move debian/locales.* to debian/config
- move debian/locales.shipped = debian/config/locales.shipped
- move debian/locales.unavail = debian/config/locales.unavail
- update debian/rules
- update debian/build/refresh-supported-locales.pl
  * Move debian/mozconfig.in to debian/config
  * Touch debian/control.in during clean to force a refresh of debian/control,
so we can check if it is out-of-date and fail if it is
- update debian/rules
  * Refresh patches:
- update debian/patches/ctypes-callback-reentry-fix.patch
- update debian/patches/theme-refresh-compose-toolbar-icons.patch
- update debian/patches/theme-refresh-message-header-buttons.patch
  * Drop the mozilla-devscripts dependency. We were only using this for creating
tarballs anyway. Instead, implement our own get-orig-source target, which
also fixes some problems we were having
- update debian/control.in
- remove debian/moz-rev.sh
- update debian/rules
- remove debian/mozclient/mozclient.mk
- remove debian/mozclient/thunderbird.conf
- update debian/config/branch.mk
- add debian/build/create-source
- add debian/build/get-orig-source.mk
- remove debian/mozclient/thunderbird-remove.binonly.sh
  * Dropped patches fixed upstream:
- remove debian/patches/theme-refresh-toolbar-and-tab-colours.patch
- remove debian/patches/theme-refresh-smaller-resize-grips-1.patch
- remove debian/patches/theme-refresh-smaller-resize-grips-2.patch
- remove debian/patches/build-fix-for-no-ENABLE_YARR_JIT.patch
- remove debian/patches/compile-pldhash-as-C++.patch
  * Lots of workflow improvements for dealing with language packs:
- update debian/rules
- add debian/build/extract-file.py
- add debian/build/dump-langpack-control-entries.pl
- update debian/build/refresh-supported-locales.pl
- add debian/config/locales.all
- update debian/config/locales.shipped
- remove debian/config/locales.unavailable
- update debian/control
- update debian/build/create-tarball.py
  * Turn off the one-time addon selection dialog (LP: #888307)
- update debian/vendor.js

thunderbird (7.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu2) oneiric-proposed;
urgency=low

  * Update eds extension to 0.3.8 (r96)
- Fix LP: #872639 - Cannot open book: Could not create DesktopcouchSession
object. Don't display errors from evolution-data-server for now, as
the alert dialog is modal and makes Thunderbird unusable. The error
messages aren't useful either. Note, this doesn't fix the actual bug
  with desktopcouch
- Fix LP: #863150 - Endless loop with password prompt
- Fix a shutdown crash
  * Update messagingmenu-extension to 0.8.2
- Should hopefully fix LP: #850229 by clearing the count if unread items
  are deleted from a folder

[Bug 706611] Re: cannot handle space in domainname as slave DNS

2011-11-28 Thread Imre Gergely
Simon, no problem.

The AFXR gets stuck at the CERT record. But it seems that only the mysql
backend has this problem, if used with the BIND backend the zone gets
transferred correctly with foo\032bar record.
With the mysql backend it gets stuck at the CERT record and doesn't transfer
anything, it just tries over and over again.

[Bug 838543] Re: False battery warning +suspend

2011-11-28 Thread Mari
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 852406 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/852406

I do NOT think they are duplicates - or at least, the issue I am having
is not a duplicate. I am not having any issues whatsoever with it
registering a nonexistent battery, or this happening after I come back
from suspend. Firstly, my laptop never goes into suspend mode, and
second this happens to me CONSTANTLY.

It even does this directly after starting up and loading Oneiric, if my
power cord gets unplugged. It doesn't do it every single time, but 9 out
of 10 times that my cord gets pulled from or falls out of the port, my
laptop goes into hibernate (that is my power setting for low battery,
rather than standby) or shuts down completely. I have a dell laptop and
the plug does NOT like to stay in, so my laptop ends up completely
shutting down from this issue at least twice a day, and going into
hibernate around six or eight times as much. Earlier today my power
cord unplugged five times in thirty minutes, two times of which it
immediately shut down. It is ridiculously frustrating.

And yes, I HAVE enabled -proposed, installed all the new updates and
things that enabling it gave me, and no, it has not fixed the issue.
I've been keeping tabs on the other bug report despite the fact that I
do not believe they are duplicates, and I was really hoping that it
would fix the issue, but it seems to have made it both worse and
slightly better simultaneously.

I have a marginally better chance of my laptop not hibernating/shutting
down if I press cancel and get my laptop plugged back in fast enough,
and the first time or two it happens directly after I start up, there is
an even chance of getting no warning or anything. But now a whole new
issue has cropped up, which is that my battery life indicator is futzing
up the percentage or time of battery life I have left. This was not
happening before. So whereas before, it would tell me I had 2:05 and
100% left on my battery when it was unplugged, and I would get the
warning, now it'll tell me I have 6:00 or 0:15 or 10% left. On a fully
charged battery.

Plus, the original problem still exists: if my charger falls out of the
port on my laptop or gets unplugged, even on a full battery, a warning
pops up, tells me my battery is about to die, and then my laptop goes
into hibernate, or worse, shuts down completely. Unless I start my
laptop up unplugged my battery life has essentially been reduced to a
minute or less.
