[Bug 650936] Re: thread_stack must be removed to avoid problems for amd64

2011-12-05 Thread Clint Byrum
Moving to mysql-5.5 .. I think the appropriate thing to do is to remove
this explicit setting and let the server's default take over.

** Package changed: mysql-5.1 (Ubuntu) = mysql-5.5 (Ubuntu)

[Bug 682831] Re: lost console output early in boot

2011-12-05 Thread Emmanuel Kasper
@scott: hit by this bug today any ideas when this will be fixed in
legacy-grub-ec2 ?

in the meantime. for others running an Ubuntu 10.04.* domU with the
linux-image-ec2 kernel and getting no console, the proper way to fix
this is to add

console=hvc0 xencons=hvc0

in /boot/grub/menu.lst in the kopt line, so it looks like

# kopt=root=UUID=ca7eba50-21d7-4756-b797-50b13a637791 ro console=hvc0
xencons=hvc0

then you should run /usr/sbin/update-grub-legacy-ec2 ( which will also
be run after each kernel update ) from the package grub-legacy-ec2.

You can verify that the xen console option was properly added to your
kernel entries:

grep ^kernel /boot/grub/menu.lst
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-340-ec2
root=UUID=ca7eba50-21d7-4756-b797-50b13a637791 ro console=hvc0 xencons=hvc0
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-340-ec2
root=UUID=ca7eba50-21d7-4756-b797-50b13a637791 ro console=hvc0 xencons=hvc0

[Bug 869684] Re: 530 login incorrect error after upgrade to Oneiric

2011-12-05 Thread Robie Basak
With this bug affecting only four people after two months, it appears
that this bug affects only a minority of users in perhaps more unusual
configurations. Thus I'm reducing Importance to Medium as per the
guidelines at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Importance.

I'd love to fix this but I'm in the dark without the ability to
reproduce (#6).

Probably a lot of lurkers hoping it will be fixed soon.

How can we assist you to investigate further? I would offer SSH into my

This is causing quite a lot of extra work having to manually load
patches to me Drupal dev box so would appreciate a fix soon.

[Bug 900344] [NEW] Nagios outdated -- even on oeiric ...

2011-12-05 Thread Thomas Schweikle
Public bug reported:

package Nagios3 is outdated even on oneiric. It's installed Nagios3
version 3.2.3. The most actual version since July 2011(!) is 3.3.1 as
stated on the projects website:
http://www.nagios.org/checkforupdates/?version=3.2.3product=nagioscore

Since there are various fixes and patches including some enhancements in
my humble opinion it would be a good idea to upgrade to version 3.3.1
and not keeping 3.2.3, at least for oneiric.

[Bug 879710] Re: ubuntu-vm-builder crashes when trying to umount tmp directory.

2011-12-05 Thread alexis bellido
Ouch. I replaced the code with the new lines and ran vmbuilder twice.
Unfortunately everything worked fine this way and I couldn't reproduce
the problem again (obviosuly I removed the run_cmd('sleep', '10') fix
too).

I experienced something similar with another server, at first vmbuilder
crashed but after making some other changes (like apt-get installing
something else, totally unrelated) vmbuilder was able to complete its
job and never saw the problem again in that server.

I'm wondering if this could be related to getting stuck in some hard
disk sector but that doesn't make much sense. The other server I'm
referring to is a 4-years-old Core 2 Duo laptop and my current server is
a brand new Core i5 desktop, so hardware seems totally unrelated.

I'll let you know if I can reproduce the problem again, sorry I can't
help more for now.

Hm, thanks. It's also possible that the race is just so tight that the
1-2 seconds to run lsof and mount allowed it to proceed.

[Bug 900378] [NEW] lxc guest fails to start with a kernel traceback

2011-12-05 Thread Andrew Glen-Young
Public bug reported:

After starting an AMD64 Oneiric instance (downloaded from uec-images.u.c
2011-11-29) using LXC as the nova-compute libvirt backend, I am
occasionally seeing the instance fail to start and the kernel triggering
a backtrace (attached).

There are no libvirtd logs for this instance, however I have also
attached the relevant parts for the nova-compute.log from around the
time this occurred. This looks like /dev/nbd15 may still be in use while
being reassigned to a new instance.

System Information:
Linux chandler 3.0.0-13-server #22-Ubuntu SMP Wed Nov 2 15:09:08 UTC 2011
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric

Hardware:
HP ProLiant DL380 G6

Please let me know if you need any further information.

[Bug 900394] [NEW] GNATs doesn't support GNATSWEB queries

2011-12-05 Thread Jason Curl
Public bug reported:

When using the default GNATs (v4.1.0) from Ubuntu, queries using
Gnatsweb doesn't work.

In particular, gnatsweb does the following query against gnatsd:
  expr ((! builtinfield:State[type]=closed)) (Category~^logger$)

With the version of gnats that comes from Ubuntu 11.10, the result is
  415 Invalid expression

Note that logger is the name of the category. There appears to be no
workaround available by modifying the gnatsweb.pl source.

When I downloaded the gnats-4.1.0 source direct from GNU, and compiled it with
the following option:
CFLAGS=-g -O2 LDFLAGS=-Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions ./configure
  --prefix=/usr --includedir=/usr/include --mandir=/usr/share/man
  --infodir=/usr/share/info --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var
  --libexecdir=/usr/lib
  --with-gnats-root=/var/lib/gnats/gnats-db
  --with-gnats-service=gnats
  --with-gnats-default-db=/var/lib/gnats/gnats-db
  --with-gnatsd-user-access-file=/etc/gnats/gnatsd.user_access
  --with-gnatsd-host-access-file=/etc/gnats/gnatsd.host_access
  --with-gnats-dblist-file=/etc/gnats/databases
  --with-lispdir=/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/gnats

and replace the binary gnatsd with that we've just compiled,
everything works as expected. I only replaced the gnatsd binary.

[Bug 615545] Re: Instances launched in a VPC cannot access ec2.archive.ubuntu.com

2011-12-05 Thread Scott Moser
** Description changed:

sources.list is helpfully configured to us-east-1.ec2.archive.ubuntu.com
for instances that I launch in US-EAST-1 on EC2. However, instances
launched in a Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) can only access machines in
their local subnet, private machines on the connected LAN, and the
  Internet via the VPC tunnel.

Because us-east-1.ec2.archive.ubuntu.com resolves to an internal EC2
10.0.0.0/8 address, instances launched in a VPC will be unable to
perform any apt operations. The user must update sources.list to point
  to us.archive.ubuntu.com to use apt.

  Proposed solution:

  1) Detect that the machine was launched in a VPC. I'm not sure what the ideal
way to determine this is without doing a DescribeInstances. But I did notice
that when in a VPC, curl http://169.254.169.254/latest/meta-data/ does not have
public-ipv4 and public-hostname listed as a possibility. So perhaps the absence
of these could be used to determine it was in a VPC.
  2) Fallback to the public us.archive.ubuntu.com (or whatever region
appropriate) if us-east-1.ec2.archive.ubuntu.com cannot be reached.
+
+ === SRU Information ===
+ [Impact]
+ After launch of an instance in a VPC (virtual private cloud) of EC2, the user
must update /etc/apt/sources.list, as cloud-init has selected a mirror that is
not available to the instance.
+
+ [Development Fix] The simple fix is to query the EC2 metadata service
+ and determine if the instance has booted inside VPC (is_vpc). If so,
+ use the fallback apt source rather than the EC2 specific region source.
+ This was added to in the 10.10 cycle.
+
+ [Stable Fix]
+ Same as development fix.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ * a.) Boot instance in EC2 in a VPC
+ * b.) Boot instance in EC2 not in a VPC
+ * Instance 'a' should have 'archive.ubuntu.com' in /etc/apt/sources.list
+* grep http://archive.ubuntu.com; /etc/apt/sources.list
+ * Instance 'b' should have 'region.ec2.archive.ubuntu.com' in
/etc/apt/sources.list
+* az=$(wget
http://instance-data/latest/meta-data/placement/availability-zone -O - -q)
+* region=${az%?} ; # az=us-east-1a, region=us-east-1
+* grep http://$region.ec2.archive.ubuntu.com; /etc/apt/sources.list
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Inside of EC2, the regression potential is almost non-existant. This exact
same fix has been in since 10.10.
+ Outside of EC2, the potential for regression would be in EC2-like clouds that
have a metadata service that looks similar to EC2's. Since the fix has been in
for 18 months, the chance of this scenario causing failure is very low.

2011-12-05 Thread Russ Allbery
Leonardo Borda 900...@bugs.launchpad.net writes:

It would be helpful if the man 5 page for kdc.conf could explicitly
specify the acceptable encryption types we can use.

Currently the only way is looking at the source code in the following
 file: /krb5-1.9.1+dfsg/src/lib/crypto/krb/etypes.c

They're listed in the krb5-admin info pages included in krb5-doc under
Configuration Files.

Russ, I thought that they were listed in the admin info pages too.
however, while I see a bunch of examples, searching for the string hmac

[Bug 900496] [NEW] dovecot-core installation fails because start is used from PATH

Public security bug reported:

When installing dovecot-core, the installation fails when the service is

They are in fact in support-enc.texinfo.
OK.
So, to the extent there is a bug it's that kdc.conf's manpage doesn't
tell you to go look at the admin guide.
I don't think we want to duplicate the information.

[Bug 900447] Re: Man 5 page for kdc.conf does not mention acceptable encryption types

2011-12-05 Thread J Sadler
You may want to reconsider adding it to kdc.conf's man page.

I don't believe that in a normal client install that you would get the
admin guide. Don't you only get it if you install the admin packages? If
you are in a mixed environment as a client and the kerb server is
something other than Ubuntu/Debian is it reasonable to expect the user
to load a package that they aren't going to use so they can get the info
needed to configure their client?

It's part of the krb5-doc package, which you will often want to install on
a client installation if you're not already deeply familiar with Kerberos.
There are lots of other things related to client configuration that are
better-documented in the texinfo manual than in the man pages. (Man pages
aren't the greatest format for a full-blown reference manual; they don't
have very much useful structure.)

1) It's in krb5-doc; anyone can install that

2) Really end-users have very little business setting those config
values. With the exception of some unfortunate bugs with NFS, it more
or less means that the Kerberos admin has screwed up if you find
yourself needing to care about enctypes. Which of course does happen,
so if it were in krb5-admin-server not krb5-doc I'd agree with your
point. However, asking people to look on the web or at detailed
documentation for a complex issue seems reasonable to me.

On second look, /etc/keystone/keystone.conf ( like every other openstack

[Bug 900553] [NEW] Any user can manage the keystone database via keystone-manage

2011-12-05 Thread Adam Gandelman
Public bug reported:

Using keystone against an external mysql database, users have access to
manage the keystone database, ie:

ubuntu@ip-10-12-14-3:~$ keystone-manage user add tester p@ssword
ubuntu@ip-10-12-14-3:~$ keystone-manage role add Admin
ubuntu@ip-10-12-14-3:~$ keystone-manage role grant Admin tester

Permissions on either /usr/bin/keystone-manage or
/etc/keystone/keystone.conf need to be tightened. I believe this is not
an issue with the default package installation since keystone defaults
to /var/lib/keystone/keystone.db as its backing store, which is owned
0755 by user keystone (perhaps this should also be restricted to 0600?)

[Bug 900620] [NEW] Possible Bug: php5-fpm does not listen on a socket by default

2011-12-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Public bug reported:

At the last I checked, the php5-fpm default config for the
/etc/php5/fpm/pool.d/www.conf file does not have the listener listen on
a UNIX socket.

As UNIX sockets are (generally) easier to use with web servers to pass
data to the process, I'd suggest having php5-fpm listen on a UNIX socket
by default.

***NOTE*** I noticed this last in the version of PHP which is in Natty. I have
yet to check the 5.3.8 version in Precise / Debian sid

present. Then plug your stick in.
Again, run the command lsusb. Note the line that was not there before. That
is your stick's identification.

Note the USB ID of it (example: 1234:89ab) and run the command sudo
