Thanks for reporting this bug and sorry the unattended report. It would
be useful if you could attach some logs from the upgrade, if they are
still kept in your sytem, as there may be some error involved in the
update process. The logs should be at /var/log/dist-upgrade.

[Bug 876558] Re: Libreoffice Find window invisible

2011-12-16 Thread Jorge Gustavo
This bug was noticed in Calc.
When doing search, the toolbar was invisible (for the last 2 months...), but
the bottom draw toolbar disapeared when searching.
I was able to get it back (in Calc) by moving the bottom Draw toolbar to the
top. Afterwards, the simple Find toolbar became visible on the bottom. I can
see it again :-)

[Bug 818177] Re: boot failures as /dev is not transferred to /root (because 'udevadm exit' times out waiting for a deadlocked worker)

2011-12-16 Thread Andy Whitcroft
There are definatly corner cases of this issue still present in Precise.
Looking at the udev init-bottom script it seems that we are not coping
correctly with a timeout when requesting that udev exit for us. Thus we
skip moving /dev over onto the new /root, which is almost all cases is
utterly fatal leaving us on a R/O root.

** Summary changed:

- boot failures because 'udevadm exit' times out while udevd waits for an
already-dead thread
+ boot failures as /dev is not transferred to /root (because 'udevadm exit'
times out waiting for a deadlocked worker)

[Bug 905254] [NEW] Compiz's Desktop Cube plug-in only displays 2 workspaces when workspaces are arranged in a 2x2 grid

2011-12-16 Thread Lee Hyde
Public bug reported:

When workspaces are arranged in a 2x2 grid (2 horizontal, 2 vertical)
the Desktop Cube plug-in will only display the first 2 workspaces (cf. a
4x1 arrangement where the Desktop Cube plug-in will display all 4
workspaces). The reason that this is such an issue for me is that I use
the Desktop Cube, Rotate Cube and Expo plug-ins and having a 2x2
arrangement of workspaces is the only way to get a space efficient 2x2
grid with the Expo plug-in.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Set desktop to 2x2 workspace arrangement (CCSM General Options Desktop
Size)
2. Enable Desktop Cube, Cube Rotate and Expo plug-ins.
3. Trigger Cube Rotate (see that only a sheet, with 2 workspaces, is displayed)
4. Trigger Expo (see that there is a space efficient 2x2 grid of workspaces).

*I'm running an up to date Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) x86-64
installation with Compiz 0.9.6.

[Bug 861061] Re: [regression] All apps have a lower frame rate under Unity.

2011-12-16 Thread EliCoten
I see I'm joining in here quite late, but the problem I'm experiencing
fits this bug description perfectly. I'm using the ATI Radeon open
source driver because my video card is no longer supported by the flgrx
driver. (I don't know if this is relevant but after booting up the
machine I always suspend and resume before logging in otherwise my fans
never come on and the laptop gets too hot).

[Bug 817979] Re: [bcm5974] annoying random freezes

2011-12-16 Thread Tomodachi
This is a problem , but I don't believe its because of the kernel module.
I was playing around last time this happened and noticed that

synclient |grep TouchpadOff
gives me
TouchpadOff = 1

enabling the touchpad manually made my mouse start working again.

in the mouse properties applet there is a checkbox disable touchpad while
typing
i believe that it sets the touchpadoff = 1
when one is typing, and enabled the touchpad once one stops typing.
Enabling it again apparently fails sometimes. I've unchecked the box.
And I no longer get this problem, could someone else verify this as well?

We need to move this bug to the correct package. Question is , which is
it?

[Bug 905271] [NEW] update-grub generates syntax error when in_submenu=true in 10_linux

2011-12-16 Thread rhhoek
Public bug reported:

Because I wanted to boot my system with different kernels I needed to
switch-off the submenu's in the grubmenu. (You cannot select a kernel to
boot when it's in a submenu (GRUB_DEFAULT in /etc/defaults/grub))

To switch off submenu's I changed 'in_submenu=true' in /etc/grub.d/10_linux
After running /usr/sbin/update-grub I got this error:

# update-grub
Generating grub.cfg ...

Syntax errors are detected in generated GRUB config file.
Ensure that there are no errors in /etc/default/grub
and /etc/grub.d/* files or please file a bug report with
/boot/grub/grub.cfg.new file attached.
done

An '}' is added even if there is no submenu. (see attachment
grub.cfg.new)

I have patched 10_linux. The problem is (I think) that the variable
'in_submenu' is used twice for different functions. I also changed the
meaning of in_submenu. When it's true it means a submenu are used, false
means no submenu.

[Bug 850649] Re: gnome-terminal extremely slow and display buggy

2011-12-16 Thread Graham Poulter
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 877438 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/877438

Two answer from my side: I'm using twinview multi-head. I only
experience it in Unity. Other programs redraw is slowed (for instance
it was slow to type in firefox), but generally the issue was much worse
in gnome-terminal than other programs. It only comes on some time after
start, and sometimes goes away. Goes away quicker on later nvidia
drivers (290.03) - on earlier drivers I would need to reboot. Started
noticing as soon as I installed 11.10 (I generally reinstall rather
than upgrade).

I think it's mainly a compiz/unity/nvidia combination bug, but something
is making it hit gnome-terminal worse than other programs.

[Bug 899727] Re: Installation aborted / crashed

2011-12-16 Thread Gordian
I tried installing with a Ubuntu 10.10 AMD64 when I received this error.

Because of your advice I downloaded and burned lUbuntu 12.04 and this
Live-CD didn't even boot (tried several boot options, but the selfcheck
said, that the disc is OK). A friend told me about a possible bug in
this media, too, so I will retry it with a lUbuntu 11.10 media and then
with a Linux Mint LXDE one.

Don't know how to isolate the source of the error. I have also tried
unplugging all USB-Devices from the Laptop, but I didn't see any
difference.

[Bug 840823] Re: Problem at typing latest letter.

2011-12-16 Thread Dominik Wujastyk
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 880876 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/880876

Drat. I've muddied the waters terribly with my comments above.

In comments #35 and #36 above, I was NOT using iBus 1.4.0 (fujiwarat).
I thought I was, but when I checked the ibus version (in synaptic) it
was 1.3.99.20110419-1ubuntu3 (oneiric) again.

I have absolutely no idea how or why my system reverted to 1.3.99 again.

Now I've reinstalled 1.4.0-1ubuntu2 (now), with fujiwarat patch,
according to #25 above, logged out and in, and my system is fine. I can
call TeXstudio from a gnome-shell icon, and it accepts iBus input
without error.

Also fine are iBus input in terminal, gedit, and jabref (java), and in a
Window program under Wine. At the moment, I can't find any problem.

So, currently my system appears to be stable and to have no iBus
problem.

Apologies for all the false error reports in #35 and #36.

In case it's relevant, my .bashrc file ends:

# for ibus:
export XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus
export GTK_IM_MODULE=ibus
export XIM_PROGRAM=ibus-daemon -d
export QT_IM_MODULE=ibus
export LC_ALL=$LANG
export CLUTTER_IM_MODULE=ibus
ibus-daemon -rxd

I've added the clutter line.

Dominik

[Bug 905287] [NEW] Progress icon is blurry

2011-12-16 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Public bug reported:

The Progress animation in the navigation bar is slightly blurry.

Probably this is because it is aligned on a pixel fraction. This was
previously a problem for the other icons in the navigation bar, but Cimi
fixed this by rounding the position to an integer. I guess the same
needs doing here.

the Desktop Cube plug-in will only display the first 2 workspaces (cf. a
4x1 arrangement where the Desktop Cube plug-in will display all 4
workspaces).

Maybe, but hard to say since there isn't a stacktrace given there.

Sarvatt references upstream bug
http://www.spinics.net/lists/dri-devel/msg17211.html, which has a
stacktrace that does not appear to be the same stacktrace I got. Also,
they mentioned that fault occurs 1x/hr, whereas in my case the crash
occurred only one time over several dozen hour's use.

So, while I agree these sound suspiciously similar, I don't think there
is solid enough evidence to prove they're dupes yet.

- the original report was an issue with udev, and will be fixed with 2.6.3

Hi, just for the record, pulseaudio seems to be the problem. I found
this post: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1256096 and tried
killing pulseaudio. After that, sound is working again in wine.

[Bug 773861] Re: Moving windows is very laggy with Compiz

2011-12-16 Thread Jeroen Hoek
The new version is an improvement to some extent. It looks I get more
redraws than before. The skipping now seems more erratic than before.
Please let me know if you want another video showing the behaviour.

I'm afraid however that from a user's perspective the difference is
negligible; on systems suffering from this bug Unity is not in a very
usable state. :(

In any case, your efforts are greatly appreciated. From what I can
gather the root-cause seems to be NVidia's closed source driver not
giving back correct data.

So I changed to Thunderbird from Evolution

FILESAVE as word 97-2003 doc Format saves highlighted text not correct.

When opening the file with word2000, 2003 or 2010 the text is not
highlighted but has a colored background.

This behaviour is independent of the source of the highlightening
(imported from Word or highlighted in Libreoffice or Openoffice).

However, when opened in Libreoffice/Openoffice the text is recognized
correct as highlighted text and not as background.

This behaviour is included in LibO 3.4 RC1

My colleague just noticed this issue like this:
I never can remove color highlights in your *** documents made in your ***
LibreOffice... Throw it in ***... And so on...

The bug happens not only when you export as DOC, but also when you
export as DOCX and then edit it in Office 2007 or 2010...

Additional info:
There are two buttons on the toolbar in Word 2010 – one changes highlight color
and the other changes text background color (Word2003 has only one of those)

1. Make a document in LibreOffice that consists of 3+ paraghraph
2. Highlight ENTIRE central paragraph yellow
3. Save as DOC or DOCX
4. Open in Office 2007-2010
5. Enable display hidden characters (!)
6. Try to remove highlighting (background color)
a) Select the entire paragraph with the paragraph sign in the end. Change text
background option using the control on the panel. Doesn't work.
b) Select the entire paragraph with the paragraph sign in the end. ... Does
work.

Anyway, most people, when they see highlighted text in MS Word, assume
it is highlighted text, not text background... The second option is
hidden deep in MS Word 2007-2010 and nonexistent in MS Word prior
2003...

I have dug a bit more into the problem, and the matter is that it seems
that OO (or LO) do not have the duality background-highlighting that MS
Word has , so I suppose the problem is not so easily solved.

I did found a rtf + grep hack to solve the problem, but it's still a bad
hack.

More details are in:

So yes, please solve this. It is a major interoperability problem.

To simplify things, I copy here my findings too:

I saved (from MS Word) the file in RTF format. The sequence, highlighted
by MS, which works (you can remove the highlight) is like that:

{\rtlch\fcs1 \af37 \ltrch\fcs0
\lang1033\langfe1025\highlight7\langnp1033\insrsid5522236\charrsid3873419
\hich\af37\dbch\af37\loch\f37
This text has been highlighted with Microsoft Word 2007}

The sequence that you cannot modify is this one:

{\rtlch\fcs1 \af37 \ltrch\fcs0
\lang1033\langfe1025\chshdng0\chcfpat0\chcbpat7\langnp1033\insrsid5522236
\hich\af37\dbch\af37\loch\f37 This text has been modified and highlighted with
O\hich\af37\dbch\af37\loch\f37 penoffice (version 1:3.2.0-7ubuntu4.1, Ubuntu
Linux 10.04 up-to-date).
}

Note that if I change \chshdng0\chcfpat0\chcbpat7 to \highlight7 in
the rtf file, then MS Word can edit it correctly.

The command:

sed 's/\\chcbpat/\\highlight/g' in.rtf out.rtf

makes a editable file. Saved my day.
