[Bug 875440] Re: Cannot authenticate with saslauthd and mysql

2012-01-01 Thread Bobonov
The fix is upgrading to the latest release of sasl which is not part of 11.10.
Actually no one is in charge of the bug because of low heat status which is
automatically calculated
https://bugs.launchpad.net/+help-bugs/bug-heat.html
Probably it will be fixed at next ubuntu release

[Bug 910563] [NEW] munin amavis: Malformed configuration line in munin amavis file

2012-01-01 Thread Hannes Roest
Public bug reported:

The munin amavis script produces errors which will be sent in an email
to root every time the cron job is executed. This is mostly annoying
since it leads to a graph that is not/wrongly labeled but the emails
every 5min to root are annoying.

This problem has been reported and fixed in debian and upstream:

 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=574172
http://munin-monitoring.org/changeset/3441

However it is not fixed in ubuntu LTS 10.04

[Bug 910566] [NEW] munin does not depend on libcache-cache-perl

2012-01-01 Thread Hannes Roest
Public bug reported:

munin does not depend on libcache-cache-perl even though it maybe should
for the mysql plugins that are delivered (but not installed) by default.
This surprises the user in an unpleasant way and the error message is
also not immediately helpful. Thus either adding libcache-cache-perl to
the dependencies or having a more intuitive way of explaining errors
might be helpful.

[Bug 907816] Re: libapache2-mod-php5 forgets timezone definition after some time

2012-01-01 Thread Arie Skliarouk
I am sorry, the problem was on my side. We have both python-django and
php sites running on the same server. The django-based site was
misconfigured to reset server's timezone to America/Chicago.
Apparently if the timezone is specified programmatically by a php or
python script, it is automatically visible to all the other scripts
(which IMHO is wrong).

Thus, a random visit to the timzeone-insensitive django-based site would
automatically reset the server's timezone and thus break the php site
(which *is* sensitive to the timezone value).

Close the bug please.

[Bug 875440] Re: Cannot authenticate with saslauthd and mysql

2012-01-01 Thread Eric Munson
That isn't a solution. I realize that we are not paying for support,
but this sort of statement doesn't encourage me to suggest that route to
anyone. If the fix truly is to update to the newer version why can this
not be done in Onieric?

To anyone that this bug is affecting, make sure to click This affects
me at the top to up the bug heat, that seems to be the only way to get
Canonical to fix something they broke.

2012-01-01 Thread Otlay Interactive
I totally agree with you, this is kind of ridiculous. Waiting til the
next version?? I can't wait until April for it to be taken care of. As
a long, long time user of Debian, and a strong advocate for the use of
Ubuntu to anyone with technical savvy enough to handle Linux, I'm pretty
appalled at the seriousness of this problem and how much of an issue
this has been. Anyone running a mail server on Ubuntu with
authentication (and if you're not, you're dumb) is likely to encounter
this. This has seriously made me reconsider if there is a better
distribution I should be using, one that won't significantly damage my
system when I upgrade. EVERY WEEK this re-breaks on my system and I
have to manually fix it. I only know it's down when I wake up to an
inbox of cron errors or an angry phone call from a client. All of the
packages have been set on hold in aptitude, yet every week it seems to
screw itself up again without any help on my part. This SERIOUSLY has
to get taken care of ASAP

Re: [Bug 875440] Re: Cannot authenticate with saslauthd and mysql

2012-01-01 Thread JBAT
I have my Ubuntu server setup with Webmin. (It is a web interface to
manage a server) in that, I have it set to notify me of updates, but not
to do any updating. After I did the manual downgrade of saslauthd, weeks
ago, I have not had a problem of it auto updating everyweek. I just go
in with Webmin, select everyting but sasl*, and install patches. No
problems with it breaking each week, but it is a pain to have to manualy
monitor it so it doesn't get the current (but messed up) sasl.

[Bug 910668] [NEW] RTL8192 driver hangs system

2012-01-01 Thread Steve B
Public bug reported:

My home network uses WPA and this connects and reports no problems in
this respect however I can only load web pages etc for the first few
seconds after the connection is made. My train operator offers free wifi
and this has no encryption yet when I connect to this - within a minute
the whole system freezes - no mouse movement etc and only a forced power
off will recover it.

Is there an alternate driver or firmware package I need ?

[Bug 909638] Re: Cannot complete client registration in ubuntuone (there was a problem while retrieving the credentials)

2012-01-01 Thread Patrick Dickey
I'm able to access the one.ubuntu.com website from the affected
computer. Also, I have the computer linked through the Ubuntu Software
Center (for file syncing between computers). But, when I try to log in
through the Ubuntu One Control Panel, I get The process did not finish
successfully in the sign-in window, and There was a problem while
retrieving the credentials in the main window.

I've tried restarting numerous times. Also, this is a fresh
installation of Ubuntu 12.04, and I performed sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade prior to trying. I've attached my
controlpanel.log and credentials.log to this report also.

In the controlpanel.log, I have the following from when I try to sign

[Bug 706795] Re: [All releases] Suspend/Resume with rootfs on USB, causes filesystem corruptions and kernel panic on mount attempt, leaving system unbootable with data lost.

2012-01-01 Thread Matthew Dutton
The second half of the bug looks like
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/766970
(My experience is filed under a duplicate as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/910041)

I also saw fsck fixing some issues at boot before I saw the oops on
mount. But I had attributed it to hdd errors or something.

[Bug 910479] Re: Glyphs Font styles are hidden

2012-01-01 Thread JazzyNico
I haven't tried with 11.10 yet, but with 11.04 (classic Gnome, no Unity
desktop), the font list is smaller with the your patch. I guess the
minimum size is what is actually used by the widget here, but the spec
is not very clear to me [1]:

Sets the minimum size of a widget; that is, the widget's size request
will be width by height. You can use this function to force a widget to
be either larger or smaller than it normally would be.

Minimum, but can force to be smaller than normally would be? Hugh.

If it's a normal behavior, I'd use a slightly higher value (visually, it
looks like a 150 on my computer).

size-request

[Bug 910503] [NEW] [update request] XAWTV new Version 3.102 available [precise]

2012-01-01 Thread Flames_in_Paradise
Public bug reported:

A new version 3.102 is available since 2011-09-05:

Would be very nice to have quite a considerable no. of changes/fixes
incorpororated into the Precise!

Xawtv updated to version 3.100.
Xawtv3 remained without updates for a long time. So, distros were adding bug
fix patches on their packages. Also, some tools used to support just V4L1 API.

A series of patches were added, incorporating the bugfixes found on the
distros and converting it to use V4L2 API.

After a long time without updates, keeping on version 3.95 since April
2010, Several bugs were discovered and fixed on distros. However, as the
package were not maintained anymore, those fixes never reached upstream.

I and Dmitry Butskoy (Fedora maintainer for xawtv) did an effort to port
the patches we found on some distros and port them into Xawtv3. So,
version 3.100 should have less bugs than version 3.95.

Another series of patches were added, converting it to use V4L2 API
only, as V4L1 API was deprecated and removed from upstream on kernel
2.6.38.

Enjoy!
Mauro Carvalho Chehab

from: http://linuxtv.org/news.php?entry=2011-03-02.mchehab

from changes file:

3.102
=

* Improve alsa latency handler and document the -alsa-latency parameter
* Improve alsa handling, fixing a cut and past error that causes
  breakages with some cards
* Improve audio parameters detection
* fix build with ld --as-needed --no-copy-dt-needed

3.101
=

* Man fix to remove mention of v4l1, and describe libv4l instead
* Fixes at fr/es manuals
* Warning fixes
* Addition of alsa streaming at xawtv: now, for devices with video
  associated with audio inputs.
* Use X11 editres, instead of its on version, based on a port from
  a motif library released under a licence that is not GPL compatible
* Add auto-detection logic for xawtv: by default, it will now seek for
  the first TV device. If not available, fall back to the first grabber
  device.
* Add auto-detection logic for scanv: by default, it will now seek for
  the first TV device. If not available, fails.
* Add optional support for libexplain at the v4l2/libv4l driver.
  Libexplain provides a more complete explanation for the error codes,
  helping developers to better track what's happened.
* Don't expose tuner commands, on devices that are grabber or webcams
  at xawtv.

3.100
=

* Update to the latest version of videodev2.h (kernel 2.6.38)
* console/v4l-info: Fix control detection

3.99.rc6

* Check the return value properly in debug print as well
* fbtools: close file properly
* use dev/vbi0 instead of dev/vbi etc
* MoTV: avoid some warnings when motv starts
* Use modern fonts for MoTV and mtt
* motif locale patch: use UTF-8 for charsets
* Whitespace cleanups
* Add an option on apps to select between libv4l and v4l2 driver
* Add other XV attributes found on bttv + nv driver
* Fix a small bug at the V4L2_CID_USER_BASE get ctrl logic
* v4l-conf.c: Don't abend if VT_GETSTATE is not supported
* v4l-info: Add support for V4L2_CID_USER_BASE
* Check the return value for XF86DGAGetVideoLL()
* Remove the remaining requirements for libFS
* Remove a Fedora-specific comment
* Fix xawtv DGA mode

3.99.rc5

* Re-add locale to xawtv/motv/mtt
* Print plugin info only when debug
* avoid usage of bool
* Change some obsoleted headers pathes
* Remove dead code

3.99.rc4

* Don't mix install-sh scripts
* motv/mtt: Disable locale setting, as this cause failure
* x11/xawtv: Disable locale setting, as this cause failure
* Remove the legacy xfs connection for FB

3.99.rc3

* Auto-detect libquicktime include directory
* Add detection for glib2
* Fix a memory leak at drv0-v4l2
* Auto-detect KFreeBSD variant
* vbi-conf.8 reports that it still in man1 section instead of man8
* Improve xft library detection

3.99.rc2

* Add a libv4l driver, using it as default
* Now, it displays the optional features that are configured at ./configure
* Use fonts found on modern (Xorg) setups

3.99.rc1

* Fixed radio backport to V4L2
* es,fr manpages are now in UTF-8
* Auto-detect Xorg default place for apps
* Remove the old obsolete V4L2 driver

3.98

* Re-added v4l-info/v4l-conf, just removing V4L1 bits
* Some fixes, backported from Fedora tree

3.97

* Fixed a compilation error
* Ported a few applications to V4L2
* Removed V4L1 support

3.96

 * misc minor fixes collected at Fedora 12.
 * Fix requirement of /dev/vbi instead of /dev/vbi0 on scantv.
 * Fix compilation with Xorg and remove the --x_libraries parameter from
   the configure script (as, on Xorg, X11 libraries are at /usr/lib).
 * Now, providing that all build dependencies are satisfied, just typing
   make after the download is enough to generate/run configure and build
   the tools.

Current Version in Ubuntu is 3.95.dfsg.1-8.1ubuntu5

[Bug 910507] Re: no internet connection detected with PPPoE running

2012-01-01 Thread Márton Németh
** Description changed:

  I run Ubuntu 11.10 32-bit from LiveCD on Clevo D4J (model), D410J
  (product code) and run System Testing. I configured the PPPoE
  connection. After this I run the networking tests and I get the
  following report:

-   networking/detect   PASSED
- networking/internet FAILED No Internet connection
+  networking/detectPASSED
+  networking/internet FAILED No Internet connection

  The report for networking/internet is a false negative. I have working

2012-01-01 Thread Jochen Fahrner
I have the same problem on my Satellite Pro U200. After disabling
bluetooth with rfkill block bluetooth, I get these toshiba_bluetooth:
Re-enabling Toshiba Bluetooth messages every 5 seconds.

Are there alternative ways to disable bluetooth?

[Bug 875440] Re: Cannot authenticate with saslauthd and mysql

2012-01-01 Thread Bobonov
The fix is upgrading to the latest release of sasl which is not part of 11.10.
Actually no one is in charge of the bug because of low heat status which is
automatically calculated
https://bugs.launchpad.net/+help-bugs/bug-heat.html
Probably it will be fixed at next ubuntu release

[Bug 899648] Re: Update manager does not install downloaded updates

2012-01-01 Thread Carla Sella
Hello Tim,
I ran gksu update-manager in terminal, update-manager opened, I clicked on
check, it took quite a wile (about 4-5 minutes) to come back from that grey
status when it's busy, after that I got a crash message.

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  I get a message by update notifier that I have 3 updates to install
(screenshot-1), I select show updates, then click on install updates, the first
time after about a minute I get the same window of update manager with the same
updates to install but it hasen't updated them, I re-click on install updates,
I have to wait about 5-6 minutes to get an error message (screenshot-3).
  I rebooted my pc but the problem is still there.
  Before this happening got crash see bug #899633.

[Bug 908326] Re: Pair kerning fails in Impress slide show

2012-01-01 Thread Neil Woolford
OK. Looking at existing bugs I find that upstream bug 43009 has similar
characteristics to this bug, and refers back to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/779366 which
appears very close to this bug.

I shall look at this further and make appropriate links between
(duplicate?) bugs in launchpad and check that full information has been
sent upstream.

[Bug 908326] Re: Pair kerning fails in Impress slide show

2012-01-01 Thread Neil Woolford
Damn you automatic link highlighting!

The mention of an upstream bug with its number has created a link to an
unrelated bug in launchpad.

The second link is valid, but could be more elegantly expressed as bug
779366.

Doh!

[Bug 899648] Re: Update manager does not install downloaded updates

2012-01-01 Thread Carla Sella
After reporting the update notifier bug, without closing update-manager, I
clicked on check, got one update to do.
I clicked on install updates it took about 3 minutes but after coming back from
the gray state the update was not installed and the update-manager still showed
me the same previous update to install.
I'm attaching a screen-shot of update-manager and the update it does not
install.
I'm sure that if I run apt-get update and apt-get upgrade this update will be
installed as I am doing latey after having encounterd this bug.

This time i clicked on install updates for the second time, without closing

Thank you, in the end i found out how apply the workaround:
i moved X11 first and Ubuntu second in the string using a user agent

Was it very difficult to fix it this way upgrading from Firefox 8 to 9?
