[Bug 919105] [NEW] Incomplete packaging for nova-rootwrap
Public bug reported: nova-rootwrap packaging in Ubuntu did not follow all directives from: http://wiki.openstack.org/Packager/Rootwrap In particular, your filter files are shipped in python-nova, which avoids the benefit of node-specific command filters. You should use .pyremove and .pyinstall files to control more finely what gets installed on which package. A complete packaging patch was provided at: http://paste.ubuntu.com/761697/ -- I suggest you follow it :) ** Affects: nova (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to nova in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/919105 Title: Incomplete packaging for nova-rootwrap To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nova/+bug/919105/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Blueprint servercloud-p-arm-service-orchestration] Enabling juju for ARM
Blueprint changed by Dave Walker: Whiteboard changed: Question: Is this using juju for direct deployment, or via Orchestra? -- Daviey Via Orchestra. I think the main thing to test is juju because of it's reliance on java with zookeeper. We don't need to discuss anything, just test and fix bugs. -- Robbie For juju to work on ARM, I am assuming that: 1. ARM hardware will support IPMI for power management 2. ARM hardware will support pxelinux emulation for boot 3. cobbler's existing IPMI support will work with ARM IPMI Status: There are two modes of operation: running juju in a local environment, and running juju via orchestra. juju currently fails to run on ARM in a local environment, and I am working on this - but this is blocking me from clearing the first five work items. Now that I have three pandas, I can test juju via orchestra also. I expect either to clear the first four work items as soon as I get juju working like this, or to find a series of ARM-specific bugs that I will need to fix first. Should those sit within the charms, or outside since it's in fact exercising the whole graph? * The place for these composed tests seem to be the stack * As much data as possible should be collected about the running tests so that a broken charm can be debugged and fixed. * Provide rich artifacts for failure analysis * Ideally tests will be run in lock step mode, so that breaking charms can be individually identified, but this is hard because changes may be co-dependent * It would be nice to have interface-specific tests that can run against any charms that implement such interfaces. In addition to working as tests, this is also a pragmatic way to document the interface. * support gerrit-like topics? (What's that? :-) i.e., change-sets (across different branches) * We need a way to know which charms trigger which tests * Keep it simple * James mentioned he'd like to have that done by Alpha 1 (December) so that he can take that into account for the OpenStack testing effort. ACTIONS: [niemeyer] spec [james-page] add openstack tests Proposal below is too complicated, rejected (Kept for posterity) Proposal: Each charm has a tests directory Under tests, you have executables: __install__ -- test to run after charm is installed with no relations Then two directories: provides/ requires/ These directories have a directory underneath for each interface provided/required. Those directories contain executables to run. The test runner follows the following method: deploy charm wait for installed status run __install__ script, FAIL if exits non-zero destroy service for interface in provides ; do calculate graph of all charms in store which require interface and all of its dependency combinations deploy requiring charm w/ dependencies and providing service add-relation between requiring/providing for test in provides/interface ; do run test with name of deployed requiring service for interface in requires ; do repeat process above with provides/requires transposed Each commit to any branch in charm store will queue up a run with only that change applied, none that have been done after it, and record pass/fail -- Juju: automated testing of charms https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/servercloud-p-juju-charm-testing -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 916992] Re: Database migration v064 fails against MySQL 5.5 + InnoDB
Reviewed: https://review.openstack.org/3110 Committed: http://github.com/openstack/nova/commit/35df99cf1dca5d9b0ca1cb09039845aa8bd3a49b Submitter: Jenkins Branch:master commit 35df99cf1dca5d9b0ca1cb09039845aa8bd3a49b Author: Chuck Short chuck.sh...@canonical.com Date: Tue Jan 17 14:24:09 2012 -0500 Drop FK constraint if it exists in migration 064 Fixes LP bug 916992 A workaround was originally applied to fix a FK constraint problem in migration 064. The original bug only affected MySQL+InnoDB databases and was masked by using MySQL+MyISAM. Commit d503d6b1079f9eafe0430754214fc5b6d4e32c09 attempted to improve the workaround, though it caused issues on databases not using InnoDB, so it was reverted enitrely and we are back with the original bug. This change will attempt to drop the FK constraint only if it exists. This should now support MySQL installations that are configured both default_storage_engine=MyISAM (oneiric) and default_storage_engine=InnoDB (precise) Change-Id: Ie2cfa32d8f52b163f513679649da52a73fc501df Signed-off-by: Adam Gandleman adam.gandle...@canonical.com Signed-off-by: Chuck Short chuck.sh...@canonical.com ** Changed in: nova Status: In Progress = Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to nova in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/916992 Title: Database migration v064 fails against MySQL 5.5 + InnoDB To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova/+bug/916992/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 207791] Re: winbind forgets uid/name gid/name mappings in regulary periods
This thread hasn't seen any activity in several months, but I discovered it today after suffering from the same problem for the past few weeks on Lucid. After some trial and error I was able to resolve it. Winbind was unable to translate uids/gids into SIDs, but it could convert usernames into SIDs. The fix was to modify the idmap config from this syntax: idmap backend = rid:FRIENDS=1-2 To this syntax: idmap backend = tdb idmap config FRIENDS : backend = rid idmap config FRIENDS : range = 1-2 And voila, winbind works correctly. [Bug 889423] Re: 802.3ad bonding not configured correctly
Just a quick note for the SRU team :) The ifenslave-2.6 upload makes a pretty big diff, including a documentation update. I could have stripped it down to the absolutely necessary changes but that'd still have been all of debian/pre-up which is by far the biggest change in the package. [Bug 919429] [NEW] Munin IO Service Time graph gives completely implausible numbers
Public bug reported: Recently a process wrote lots of data to the disk (and I'll take responsibility for that) but the Disk IOs per device went up (makes sense) and the Disk latency per device also went up (yup, so far so good) but the IO Service time strangely went down! Yes, it showed more latency but less service time. That's incredible. I'm incredulous. I've been suspicious of this for some time, because I absolutely know that /dev/sdc is a faster device than /dev/sda and /dev/sdb and for a long time it has been showing the lowest latency and the highest service time. It always did seem weird, but now I'm sure these numbers are bogus. ** Affects: munin (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to munin in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/919429 Title: Munin IO Service Time graph gives completely implausible numbers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/munin/+bug/919429/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 919429] Re: Munin IO Service Time graph gives completely implausible numbers
Here is the graph of the latency, also from munin. Showing the exact opposite to the other graph. This one gives an answer that I believe is correct (or at least it is plausible). Note that /dev/sdc is the fastest drive, and shows the lowest latency. Also note that when loaded heavily, the latency on /dev/sda and /dev/sdb go up (they are RAID mirror so they move together). ** Attachment added: Disk latency per device - by week https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/munin/+bug/919429/+attachment/2684669/+files/diskstats_latency-week.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to munin in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/919429 Title: Munin IO Service Time graph gives completely implausible numbers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/munin/+bug/919429/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 919429] Re: Munin IO Service Time graph gives completely implausible numbers
Here is the offending graph, from munin. NOTE: the purple line is the fast drive, and the yellow line is a slower drive, but for some strange reason the yellow line goes DOWN under additional load (should go UP I would expect). Also, the results are completely the other way to the latency graph. ** Attachment added: IO Service time - by week https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/munin/+bug/919429/+attachment/2684645/+files/iostat_ios-week.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to munin in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/919429 Title: Munin IO Service Time graph gives completely implausible numbers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/munin/+bug/919429/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 919429] Re: Munin IO Service Time graph gives completely implausible numbers
Just for reference, here is a graph of IO operations, showing the additional load. The green line is /dev/md0 but that is a RAID mirror of /dev/sda and /dev/sdb so they are taking the load. NOTE: the load on /dev/sdc is constant and would typically be the drive taking the most load. This graph seems very plausible to me. ** Attachment added: Disk IOs per device - by week https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/munin/+bug/919429/+attachment/2684671/+files/diskstats_iops-week.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to munin in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/919429 Title: Munin IO Service Time graph gives completely implausible numbers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/munin/+bug/919429/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 919429] Re: Munin IO Service Time graph gives completely implausible numbers
I can see one problem in the file /usr/share/munin/plugins/iostat_ios as follows: LINE 202: print(${dev}_rtime.value , ($rtime_diff != 0) ? ($rio_diff / $rtime_diff) : 0, \n, LINE 203: ${dev}_wtime.value , ($wtime_diff != 0) ? ($wio_diff / $wtime_diff) : 0, \n, LINE 204: ); Here we see it divides number of IO operations by time in milliseconds. However the graph has the vertical axis in seconds. Dividing by time gives Hz never back to seconds again. So the graph results are really in Hz (not a useful unit given the context we are working with here). I suggest that the calculation should be: LINE 202: print(${dev}_rtime.value , ($rio_diff != 0) ? ($rtime_diff / $rio_diff) : 0, \n, LINE 203: ${dev}_wtime.value , ($wio_diff != 0) ? ($wtime_diff / $wio_diff) : 0, \n, LINE 204: ); There's another (minor) problem which is to say that returning 0 in a situation where no IO has occurred is a lie, should return NaN or NA but if you read the Munin protocol specification (see link below) it claims Output must be integer or decimal number, so the have no provision for a plugin saying hey, this value does not exist right now and that's strange because the RRD system does support NaN for missing values -- but that's a bigger problem for another day. http://munin-monitoring.org/wiki/protocol-config -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to munin in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/919429 Title: Munin IO Service Time graph gives completely implausible numbers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/munin/+bug/919429/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

I can't seem to reproduce your issue. [Bug 783827] Re: Keyboard layout not set in greeter
This introduced a huge regression: As the indicator does not automatically adapt to the selected user's default layout, but apparently stays to the system default (or always just en/US, I didn't test that far), lightdm now _overwrites_ the user's default layout with the one which is set in the lightdm indicator (which is wrong). Before, lightdm would not touch the keyboard layout at all. This was not really nice because users could not type their password in their own layout, but had to use the system default layout. The old gdm 2 did it right: It switched the current keyboard layout to the user default one, you were able to change it when typing your password, and it propagated the new default layout to the session. I think the unity greeter shoudl reflect this. ** Changed in: unity-greeter (Ubuntu) Milestone: None = precise-alpha-2 ** Changed in: unity-greeter (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Michael Terry (mterry) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/783827 Title: Keyboard layout not set in greeter To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/lightdm-gtk-greeter/+bug/783827/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 917980] Re: dkms recompiling using current kernel headers instead of the new one being installed
NVM, found the answer here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Kernel/DkmsDriverPackage I opened the makefile with gedit and I used the replace tool to replace every use of $(shell uname -r) with $(KVER) and I added the line KVER ?= $(shell uname -r) up top after the the line CHIPSET = 3562. Then I modified the make line of my dkms.conf file to MAKE[0]=make KVER=$kernelver and this solved the problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/917980 Title: dkms recompiling using current kernel headers instead of the new one being installed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dkms/+bug/917980/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
