[Blueprint servercloud-p-hdp-hadoop] Ubuntu Server - Hadoop

2012-02-01 Thread James Page
Blueprint changed by James Page:

Whiteboard changed:
  Status 20122501

Dev packages avaliable for hadoop, hive, pig and hbase in
  http://launchpad.net/~hadoop-ubuntu/+archive/dev

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hadoop-ubuntu/dev

  Target versions of Hadoop components:

  hadoop-0.20.205.0
  hcatalog-0.2.0
- pig-0.9.0
+ pig-0.9.0 (0.9.1)
  hbase-0.90.4
- hive-0.7.1
- # the script I got from Hortonworks labels this as hive-0.7.1+ which includes
fixes to hive. - Yes - we might need to look at that - we should be able to
overlay the fixes if need be without rebuilding the entire project
- zookeeper-3.3.2
+ hive-0.7.1 (? 0.8.1 is out and should be compatible with hcatalog 0.2.0)
+ zookeeper-3.3.2 (3.3.4)

Q: Their website indicates they will use ambari as something
devops/juju-like. Clearly we want to use juju but have they made any ambari
assumptions?
A: No idea - one to ask Matt

  Package naming:

  hadoop
  hcatalog
  pig
  hbase
  hive

- Needs confirmation (conflicts with archive):
+ Packages that target partner CANNOT have the same name as packages in
+ the main archive so zookeeper will be:

- zookeeper
+ hadoop-zookeeper
+
+ This will prevent and conflicts with the zookeeper package in the main
+ archive.
+

  Assumptions:

Packaging will use bigtop as a base.
   - reuse of control file structure will help support bigtop packages in juju
charms as and when they support precise.
Java will NOT be rebuilt during the package build process.
Native libraries will be rebuilt during the package build process.
Q: What does this mean for the hive embedded in hcatalog (via
hcatalog-0.2.0/hive/external)? I'm guessing we just use the hdp-hive package we
create.
Patches may be required for native build components.
Debconf configuration in packages is useful for Juju charms and should be
applied where appropriate.
--- Debconf currently in use: namenode, jobtracker and hdfs_dir
Binary distributions will be used from upstream (no source build by default).
Q: Exactly what does this mean in this context? Binary distributions of ...
Are these the jar files inside the hortonworks/apache source (e.g.
./hive-0.7.1+/lib/javaewah-0.3.jar?
A: So most of the apache projects ship a binary distribution tarball which
includes all of the compile Java etc so we should not build from source - just
re-use these jars etc...

  Challenges:

hcatalog not packaged in bigtop trunk (need to check branches)
  JAVA_HOME and use of openjdk-6/7? JAVA_HOME detection - bigtop use a
specific package for this (bigtop-utils) which tries to guess - might be worth
re-using.
java-package as recommended approach to re-packaging Oracle java for Ubuntu
(generates Debian packaging from upstream binary distro).
Kerberos security - probably actually needs to be a charm configuration
option to secure a cluster.
Q: For Kerberos, do we have the necessary dependencies to get this done? If
so, I can do the charm work.j
Q: Re: Kerberos. We may need to really look into this as this will end up
affecting not only hadoop but, all of the other parts ( hive, pig, etc. ) as
well. This can really complicate the packaging/charming as well so, we may not
have time to get it all done in this cycle. Just my thoughts.
MultiArch native libraries in hdp-hadoop package - should not must.
Hive contains patches for hcatalog support - we need to work these in somehow
(maybe a overlay to the binary re-distribution).

  hcatalog:
External dependency on mysql-connector? and maybe mysql?
No binary distribution - only source so will need to be built locally to
produce release tarbal.

[Bug 924337] Re: lxc on precise is not working with lucid containers

2012-02-01 Thread Gary Poster
I tried the fix and I got the same symptom.

For clarity:

- I wiped out /var/lxc/cache before I started because lxc-create wasn't
working. That got lxc-create working. I used the same commands I
listed in the bug description.

- I changed the container's console.conf as described:

$ cat /var/lib/lxc/lp/rootfs/etc/init/console.conf
# /dev/console - getty
#
# This service maintains a getty on /dev/console from the point the
# system is started until it is shut down again.
# It only runs in lxc containers.
# Libvirt links /dev/tty1 to /dev/pts/0.

## start on stopped rc RUNLEVEL=[2345]

start on mounted MOUNTPOINT=/run
stop on runlevel [!2345]

env container
env LIBVIRT_LXC_UUID
pre-start script
[ x$container = xlxc ]  exit 0;
stop;
exit 0;
end script

respawn

exec /sbin/getty -8 38400 /dev/console

- sudo lxc-start -n lp then hangs with the exact same symptoms described
initially.

Thanks

 sudo ln -s /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.lxc-start /etc/apparmor.d/disable/
 sudo apparmor_parser -R /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.lxc-start

Then it should work.

Ideally we'd be able to keep apparmor involved.

Jean-Baptiste, thanks for reporting this. Can you provide the
squid.conf that you end up with after upgrade that is causing the
problems? Also, was this an upgrade from squid3 (oneiric) to squid3

[Bug 925028] Re: apparmor breaks lxc-start-ephemeral

2012-02-01 Thread Serge Hallyn
There is apparently still a bug in overlayfs with apparmor. If I do

mkdir /tmp/lower
mount -t overlayfs -o rw,upperdir=/tmp/lower,lowerdir=/ overlay /mnt

I can ls /mnt and see the overlay of / jsut fine. Then I create
/etc/apparmor.d/sergebashtest which contains:

===
#include tunables/global

/bin/bash2 flags=(attach_disconnected) {
  network,

  capability chown,
  capability dac_override,
  capability dac_read_search,
  capability fowner,
  capability fsetid,
  capability kill,
  capability setgid,
  capability setuid,
  capability setpcap,
  capability linux_immutable,

  capability net_broadcast,
  capability net_admin,
  capability net_raw,
  capability ipc_lock,
  capability ipc_owner,
  capability sys_module,
  capability sys_rawio,
  capability sys_chroot,
  capability sys_ptrace,
  capability sys_pacct,

  capability sys_nice,
  capability sys_resource,
  capability sys_time,

  capability audit_write,
  capability audit_control,
  capability setfcap,
  capability mac_override,
  capability mac_admin,
  capability syslog,

  / rwklix,
  /** rwklix,

}

==
and insert that with 'apparmor_parser /etc/apparmor.d/sergebashtest, and cp
/bin/bash /bin/bash2.

Then I do /bin/bash2 and ls /mnt from there, and get:

root@sergelap:/etc/apparmor.d# ls /mnt
ls: cannot access /mnt: Invalid argument

though I can ls /tmp/lower and / just fine.

terribly sorry, 'mounted=/run' won't work in your containers as you are

[Bug 925110] [NEW] lxc-ls fails as non-root sometimes (second bug)

2 things are causing this failure.
a.) 'mount -t cgroup' just seems to show nothing (no idea why)
b.) /sys/fs/cgroup/*/lxc are root only readable

$ ls -l /sys/fs/cgroup/cpuacct/ | egrep (libvirt|lxc)
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 0 Feb 1 19:55 libvirt
drwx-- 10 root root 0 Feb 1 20:28 lxc

Things to fix:
 * need trailing / on 'ls -l' (in case its a symlink).
 * figure out why those directories are read-only

[Bug 925122] [NEW] container's udevadm trigger --add affects the host

2012-02-01 Thread Serge Hallyn
Public bug reported:

When the container does 'udevadm trigger --add' (in
/etc/init/udevtrigger.conf), the host re-processes all those events too.
This can lead (less importantly) to keyboard settings and soundcard
levels being reset, but (more importantly) could presumably also cause
worse troubles.

Once upstart has a concept of being ina container, udev should be
updated to not run udevtrigger.conf when in a container.

[Bug 925110] Re: lxc-ls fails as non-root sometimes (second bug)

2012-02-01 Thread Serge Hallyn
thanks for filing this bug.

lxc-ls actually handles the case where mount -t cgroup shows nothing,
by then checking in /proc/self/mounts.

The /sys/fs/cgroup/subsys/init-cgroup/lxc directory is explicitly
created with 0755. The container's directory (mistakenly) is not,
i.e. /sys/fs/cgroup/subsys/init-cgroup/lxc/container1. But your
output isn't showing that, it's showing lxc itself.

Curious!

Can you tell us what else you have installed?

dpkg -l | grep libvirt
dpkg -l | grep cgroup

and how long it has been running?

[Bug 917660] Re: Installing qemu-user-static in an i386 lxc container applies the binfmt changes to the host, breaking execution in that host

2012-02-01 Thread Serge Hallyn
This should be fixed in lxc in precise, where the apparmor policy should
prevent it from happening.

I've marked the kernel bug invalid, but kept the binfmt-support bug new.
If there is something which that package could do to help the general
(non-lxc) case, that'd be terrific. I'm not sure however that there is.

[Bug 922232] Re: Volumes fail to attach without discovery using tgt

2012-02-01 Thread OpenStack Hudson
Reviewed: https://review.openstack.org/3479

http://github.com/openstack/nova/commit/ea2c8c8b363dceb3c73be8f02f078d7b78b2c712

Branch:master

commit ea2c8c8b363dceb3c73be8f02f078d7b78b2c712
Author: Adam Gandelman ad...@canonical.com
Date: Thu Jan 26 12:36:55 2012 -0800

Fix multinode libvirt volume attachment lp #922232

iscsiadm returns 0 if local db contains no target records. As a result,
no exception is caught and no entry gets created (--op new) before
continuing
to login. Devstack/single-node users avoided this because, apparently,
records
are created in initiator db on target creations.

Update: Address smokestack failures if err == None

fixes bug #922232

If are sure you want to downgrade to 5.1, remove the file
/var/lib/mysql/debian-*.flag and try installing again.

If you previously had 5.5 installed and really want to do this, then
please go ahead and remove the file per the message.

I'll mark this bug invalid assuming that was the case, but if not, if
something else is going on, please let us know by replying to this email

[Bug 924717] [NEW] Evince freezes when opening menu with F10 key

2012-02-01 Thread Adi Sujiwo
Public bug reported:

TESTCASE: any .pdf file, using Unity+compiz on Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit, any
video driver.

I was reading a PDF file when suddenly F10 key was pressed; the whole
desktop except mouse pointer froze. Fortunately I was able to switch to
console using Alt-F{1-7}. After killing evince, desktop is usable again.
I was able to reproduce this bug using nvidia and intel driver, using
single and dual monitor configuration.

[Bug 924223] Re: Bluetooth sync stopped working in ubuntu 11.10

2012-02-01 Thread khul
Thanks for the links!

I had an N900 which I lost after about two years. First it worked with
bluetooth, then it stopped working and I had to set up a syncML server.
I was pleased when my new N9 just worked with bluetooth. It continued
working after the firmware update in the phone. So it seems this might
be a regression in ubuntu 10.11. Maybe I'll have to go back to syncML.

[Bug 924713] [NEW] when searching for application in the dash right after startup, no results are shown at first

2012-02-01 Thread Matthijs ten Kate
Public bug reported:

As in the title.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Boot your PC and log in with Unity 2D
2. Press the logo key to invoke the dash
3. Search for an application, i.e. 'gedit' (without quotations)
No application results are shown, only data which might be related to the search

4. Wait for about 30 seconds to one minute
5. Search again
Application now suddenly shows.

This behavior can be very confusion for users because it seems as if the
application is either gone or the user has made a spelling mistake
(while none of these two is true).
