[Bug 960769] [NEW] screen output fails periodically when window is small

2012-03-20 Thread karl anliot
Public bug reported:

running ubuntu precise
$ apt-cache policy libvte9
libvte9:
  Installed: 1:0.28.2-3ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1:0.28.2-3ubuntu1

I expect each command I type to output in libvte (. however, the output seems
to pause, although it resumes immediately the next time I type something. so
even typing a sentence, some keypresses are not reflected to the screen.
also, the output of some commands is hidden. (until the next output)

this problem only occurs when the terminal window is small. when I have
the terminal window maximized, it never occurs.

So it's like the post office holding some of my mail, until the next
time i get a letter. Like they can't bother delivering every letter,
only 95% of them, but they deliver all off them if I get mail delivered
at regular intervals.

[Bug 933289] Re: bad flickering with Radeon drivers in 12.04 Precise

2012-03-20 Thread Britt Yazel
The EXAVSync option did not make any difference, nor did the Option
"DisplayPriority" "BIOS" or Option "DisplayPriority" "HIGH" options. I
did not see any noticeable difference between the two.

Right now the status on this ticket is incomplete; is there anything I
need to do on my part to get some attention on this issue or to make it
so this issue is confirmed?

Did the EFI System Partition on /dev/sdb1 exist before the install? If
not, it must have been created using manual partitioning, which is odd
if it wasn't intended to be used.

Installer logs (syslog and partman) would help.

And from that point, the GUI pop-ups and I got the sound of a TV channel

I also can not change the TV channel I do not found a control to do it.

Finally, it is a great improvement regarding the database bug.
I will continue to test your next releases. Thank you.

[Bug 960092] Re: Latest update renders system unbootable "error: no such partition"

2012-03-20 Thread Alan Pope
Hmm. It seems to be triggered by having multiple disks in the host. My
/dev/sda (which I don't boot off) has previously had a linux install on
it, and I reused the disk by creating one big partition and formatting
it for /home. I would never have wiped grub off the master boot record.

So I'd suggest it's not that my grub was misconfigured, but merely that
there was an old grub on the start of the disk in the mbr. I don't think
this is an unreasonable or massively unusual situation these days as
people re-use disks and move them about between machines.

[Bug 960761] [NEW] Typo in template files for mysql & pgsql director packages

Public bug reported:

When installing bacula-director-[mysql|pgsql] I get errors similar to this:

files. The lines beginning with "_Description", should be
"Description".

[Bug 925421] Re: sometimes icons get dropped from the launcher when they should not

2012-03-20 Thread Brandon Schaefer
I think the only way this can happen is while the program is starting
you unlock it from launcher. This is before the program has actually
started, though it'll start soon.

A good example of this is the software center, as it takes a little
longer to start up:

Open Ubuntu Software Center
While its opening Unlock form Launcher

...Icon is removed, then the Software Center starts without adding the
icon back to the launcher

[Bug 955673] Re: Ubuntu One Contact Address Book does not migrate correctly

2012-03-20 Thread Rodney Dawes
Can you clarify please how exactly you performed this "migration" to
12.04? If you upgrade to 12.04 using the update-manager, the related
packages should appear under a heading of "No longer supported by
Canonical" in a listing somewhere, and should give you the option to
keep or remove them, assuming that they aren't simply just upgraded when
doing the upgrade.

If you're just installing over top of an existing install, then you will
have to migrate some data manually. For example, Evolution is not the
default mail client in 12.04 either. It has been replaced with
Thunderbird.

[Bug 960758] [NEW] Kubuntu 12.04 does not recongize hokeys correctly

2012-03-20 Thread Terrence Bruff
Public bug reported:

I do not know if this is a feature in earlier versions of Kubuntu or
not, but I do know that when I used Ubuntu I was able to hit fn+11 to go
back a song in applications pithos banshee .etc and even when no
applications was running if i hit the hotkey (in mint this time) it
would display a not allowed sign. In Kubuntu these keys are not
recognized at all. I have tried the wiki page on
https://wiki.kubuntu.org/KDEMultimediaKeys and followed every
instruction I can think of. I believe this is a bug because this feature
is available in other versions of Ubuntu.

What I tried
Xmodmap
KDE Gui shortcut editor

What happened the
keys did not work

What i expected to happen
fn+f9=pause
fn+f10=stop
fn+11=previous song
fn+f12=next song

Notes
Certain keys do work. For example fn+left turns the brightness down and fn+12
does the opposite. Fn+down turns the volume down and fn+up turns the volume up

have privileges to do so).

According to lsof, many, many processes (sshd, upstart, init, ntpd,
etc., as well as processes we start directly such as xvfb-run and our
own code are looking in the wrong place (/rootfs/...) for important and
sometimes essential files, including /rootfs/dev/random,
/rootfs/dev/null, /rootfs/lib/tls ... , /rootfs/lib/security... ,
/rootfs/lib/libdbus-1.so.3.4.0, /rootfs/lib/libcom_err.so.2.1,
/rootfs/usr/lib/libkrb5.so.3.3, and so on.

We could maybe make symlinks for /rootfs/usr, /rootfs/lib, and
/rootfs/dev but that feels like we're going too far, and that we really
ought to address this.

I'm not sure where to look to fix this. Is there something else
important we are missing from lxc-clone? Help would be very
appreciated.

Thank you

[Bug 960750] [NEW] .jar files are no longer associated with Java

2012-03-20 Thread Britt Yazel
Public bug reported:

.jar files (or at least minecraft.jar) used to be associated with the
Java runtime environment and could be launched and run just like any
normal executable program. In this release, since the switch to openJDK
as the default, openJDK is not an option to launch .jar files. There is
probably a way around this by launching the selected program with
openJDK from the terminal, but I don't believe this should be necessary,
especially since it is a regression.

Re: [Bug 958189] Re: Software Center locks up installs/uninstalls

2012-03-20 Thread Dervius
Actually, I looked online for something to try and I found one that
actually worked for me. Something about going to the update manager, then
advanced, and resetting the defaults on the certificate keys. I dunno why,
but that actually worked and I haven't had any other episodes lately.

If it acts up again I'll be sure to send any logs to your team to see if it
helps. Thanks again for the response.

I'm closing this bug since gnome-shell recommends gnome-session-fallback
which depends on metacity which depends on metacity-common. Recommends
are installed by default and it is "not recommended" to uninstall them.
Thanks!

[Bug 958609] Re: failed to launch while firefox is in use

2012-03-20 Thread Matthias Klumpp
Hmm, can you give some more detailed information about the error message please?
Usually, Apper should say something like "A program is running that has to be
closed before the update can proceed. More information is available in the
detailed report."
Anyway, I'll allow upgrading Firefox while it's running again. (FF will ask the
user for a restart after upgrade anyway)

[Bug 960600] Re: Quit dialog - broken geometry

2012-03-20 Thread Stéphane Graber
I'm unable to reproduce that one.

Either clicking Quit or clicking the exit icon in the window title bar,
both show me a "Quit the installation?" dialog asking me "Do you really
want to quit the installation now?" with cancel/quit as options.

The dialog is of the right size and isn't resizable.

Anything special with your system? (I was testing with 2.9.30 from ubuntu
desktop amd64 20120320 with unity-2d in kvm).

[Bug 959947] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at 35ee1000

2012-03-20 Thread Cliff Tedder
Followed these instructions for Bug 956845 -
"The latest v3.3 kernel is now available. Can you test this latest kernel,
which is available from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.3-precise/";

The "paging request" error message persists at boot-up, and VirtualBox
now complains "kernel driver not installed" because of the new kernel
and the fact that I blew away DKMS (see old notes). I'll leave it this
way until new ideas emerge.

Thanks - CT

[Bug 959122] Re: Some icons missing from Unity after upgrade from LiveCD

2012-03-20 Thread Bilal Akhtar
Probably a Compiz configuration problem. Does running unity --reset
help? Also, which GPU/Driver do you use? In the past Nouveau has had
troubles like this.

[Bug 960731] [NEW] Missing: quantum, quantum-server, python-quantum

2012-03-20 Thread David Medberry
Public bug reported:

Version:
quantum-2012.1~rc1

the control file indicates that there should be a quantum package (which
I suspect is the old quantum-server package) and python-quantum. I find
neither of these packages in the ubuntu precise repository. Are they
being built and put somewhere ... weird?

I think this also happened during the ~e4 build (and Daviey filed a bug
... against the packaging system.)

** Affects: quantum (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

And surprisingly, "displa" returns results in the correct order, but
when you add a "y" at the end, it gets messed up.

Sushi used to just work by selecting a file, like a picture, in Nautilus
