[Bug 987498] Re: Unity/compiz freeze but mouse still move

2012-05-08 Thread Id2ndR
It may be related to Thunderbird when it received a new mail, but only
sometime. Indeed I'm able to get a failsafe desktop when unity/compiz
freeze by using unity-2d/metacity, and then I notice that Thunderbird
window that was minimized cannot display it content (unity-2d show a
dark window). I've noticed that twice so far, so I'm still not sure but
it may help.

To get back on unity-2d/metacity do the following things:
Ctrl-Alt-F1
[wait until it switch; that can take about 30 seconds]
killall -9 compiz
DISPLAY=0:0 metacity --replace
DISPLAY=0:0 unity-2d-panel
DISPLAY=0:0 unity-2d-shell
killall -9 compiz
Ctrl-Alt-F7

[Bug 996435] [NEW] resolvconf uses awk bug doesn't Depend on it

2012-05-08 Thread Thomas Hood
Public bug reported:

After the latest bugfix (in versions 1.63ubuntu13 and 1.65ubuntu2) the
difference between the Debian and Ubuntu lsattr-checking code in
resolvconf.postinst is this:

-echo_first_arg() { echo $1 ; }
 is_immutable_file() {
[ $1 ] || return 2
[ -e $1 ] || return 1
[ ! -L $1 ] || return 1
-   which lsattr /dev/null 21 || return 2
- echo_first_arg $(lsattr $1) | grep -sq i
+
+ ATTR=$(lsattr $1 2/dev/null)
+ [ -z $ATTR ] return 1
+ echo $ATTR | awk '$1 ~ /i/ { exit 0; }; { exit 1; }'
 }

It isn't obvious to me why grep was replaced with awk here. The
resulting code is slower and not much more readable, so why change it?

To suppress lsattr error messages it would have sufficed to do this:

- echo_first_arg $(lsattr $1) | grep -sq i
+ echo_first_arg $(lsattr $1 2/dev/null) | grep -sq i

I'll include this change in the next Debian version; but if you can
explain to me why the awk code is better then I'll adopt that.

A remaining issue is that the resolvconf package doesn't Depend on awk
and awk is not Essential (although it is Depended upon by base-files
which is Essential). Is this a problem?

[Bug 955138] Re: previous short description is displayed

2012-05-08 Thread Tijs Vermeulen
Hello, I am almost sure the problem happens only because of the incorrect
description field syntax in the original deb file.
The same syntax issue in bricscadv11 and bricscadv12 deb files causes a
distribution upgrade problem.

http://linuxaideddesign.blogspot.com/2012/03/important-notice-for-bricscad-linux.html
https://www.bricsys.com/common/support/forumthread.jsp?id=18173
https://www.bricsys.com/common/support/forumthread.jsp?id=16420

It would be great if the upgrade system could recover from the incorrect
syntax. After all the incorrect syntax was accepted by an old version
of dpkg. However, I would understand if such recovery is deemed too
specific.

I don't understand why I can't consistently reproduce, but not
everything is interesting to find out :)

Right. I had not pushed. Sorry for that.

I thought this patch was included upstream but I cannot find any

 Is this the right git?

[Bug 990761] Re: acroread 9.5 not installable on x86_64 precise pangolin

2012-05-08 Thread Sergio Callegari
IMHO it would be great to abandon the 'fake' 64 bit deb of acroread, fix
multiarch and let ia32-libs disappear.

Incidentally, note that acroread in kde relies on the gtk engine qtcurve
and that i386 gtk engines do not seem to be installable in precise
64bit. This too needs to be fixed via proper multiarch support.

[Bug 879625] Re: CUPS fails to request authentication when printing over IPP w/ TLS

2012-05-08 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
my update in place to 12.04 was successful.
I can now print.

From reading upstream, it seems that the first print job doesn't get
authentication and you have to delete it..
hen you are able to print. So I proceeded this way:
- print from firefox
No authentication box
- in cups web administration page I see the job as failed
- delete job
- start another job in firefox
Now I get the authorization window and am able to print

NOTE: I don't know if it is a problem of the windows print server in place I'm
using, but with the default settings the print job keeps staying in waiting to
complete. So that if you run another job, it stays on hold because the former
has not completed. I found that putting the settings advised in my Fedora
bugzilla solved the problem:
see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=810007#c20

[Bug 996443] [NEW] use UUID=0 for this partition

2012-05-08 Thread André Pirard
Public bug reported:

Any version, any release and probably any distribution.

What happens.

When GParted makes a backup of a partition, two partitions with the same UUID
exist, which is contrary to principle.
This produces a lot of confusion if both are visible, such as one being mounted
but the other one is locked.
If the backup UUID is changed, you get (for example) an unbootable backup
system because fstab mounts the wrong UUID.

What should happen.

If UUID=0 meant the UUID of the partition in which this reference is located
there would be no need to change the fstab (mounting UUID=0).
If GParted made a backup with a different UUID (by default, optionally same or
user specified UUID such as similar to previous one), there would no longer be
any UUID concern.

What should result.

One more easy step towards a system as or more easy to use as ... other
ones.

** Affects: gparted (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Summary changed:

- use UUID=0
+ use UUID=0 for this partition

** Description changed:

[Bug 992468] Re: network print : no possible with 12.04

2012-05-08 Thread Andrew
Same problem here

Upgraded from Ubuntu Desktop 64bit 11.10 to 12.04 (both with gnome-
shell)

The printer was still visible when i finished upgrading, but wouldn't
print...

Got 11.10 on a virtual machine, works great to print

Yes, Windows Network printer... Konica Minolta C650/C550 and HP Laserjet
4100

I did just as I did in 11.10:
went to system-config-printer - add - find network printer - type in ip and
choose the printer..
but when i click forward, terminal gives message: No ID match for device
lpd://the.ip.goes.here.
then provide ppd file, but status for printer says no connection...

The weird thing is that the printer gives me messages like if there is
no paper or toner left... tried switching toner and fill in with
paper...

Tried as well choosing other printer types... The printers answers
aswell on ping

[Bug 996454] [NEW] Recovery Mode starts in read-only, does not mount home folder, and hangs when trying to do something

2012-05-08 Thread Paddy Landau
Public bug reported:

Starting with 12.04, when I boot into Recovery Mode:

1. The file-system is read-only.

2. The home folder is not mounted (if on a separate partition).

3. Choosing to check all disks or to start in low-res graphics mode asks
to mount read-write but then appears to hang; Ctrl-C is required to get
back to the menu.

4. I also notice that on 11.04, Recovery Mode uses smaller text (taking
advantage of the monitor's resolution), whereas 12.04 uses large text.

What should happen:

1. File-system read-write, or at least a *working* option to change to
read-write.

2. The home folder is mounted.

3. Check all disks or start low-res graphics should do just that,
instead of hanging.

4. The text should use the available resolution of the monitor.

It is as if the Recovery Mode has not been tested at all.

(I cannot use ubuntu-bug to report the error, as it wants a specific
package, which of course does not apply here.)

System: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit, fully updated.

[Bug 993794] Re: Precise resolvconf+dnsmasq setup breaks login in some wireless networks

2012-05-08 Thread Sergio Callegari
No, unfortunately, I do not think it is that.

If I start with my machine OFF, I switch it on and boot, then I already
have the issue.

The machine connects to the wifi, but when I open the browser I cannot
reach the authentication screen because the name of the authentication
host cannot be resolved.

If I try to resolve it with 'host' or 'dig', it cannot be resolved.

If I copy the nameserver entries from the dnsmasq configuration to
/etc/resolv.conf then everything is fine.

[Bug 987498] Re: Unity/compiz freeze but mouse still move

2012-05-08 Thread Christophe
I have the same problem.

I use a freshly installed Ubuntu 12.04 64 bits, and when I log under
unity (3d) the GUI freezes after some time randomly. It can be when I
surf the web with firefox or when I read a pdf file in evince. The mouse
still moves on the screen, but nothing happens when I click somewhere.
The system goes on working, for example, the music in rythmbox does not
stop. All I can do is to Ctrl-Alt-F1 and get a console.

I think the problem is due to compiz, as no problem occurs when I log
under unity2d.

My config: Dell E520, graphics : Radeon X1300 with the radeon free
driver.

** Description changed:

  bug report:
  Hi guys,

  I'm running ubuntu12.04 server on a HP DL380G7.
  server01 ~ # lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
  Release: 12.04

  I've got 2 ethernet cards with 4x 10G interfaces.
I've got a bond on 4x10G where only eth4 and eth6 are patched.

  server01 ~ # ethtool -i eth4
  driver: be2net
  version: 4.0.100u
  firmware-version: 4.0.360.15
  bus-info: :0e:00.0
  supports-statistics: yes
  supports-test: yes
  supports-eeprom-access: yes
  supports-register-dump: no

  server01 ~ # ethtool -i eth6
  driver: be2net
  version: 4.0.100u
  firmware-version: 4.0.360.15
  bus-info: :15:00.0
  supports-statistics: yes
  supports-test: yes
  supports-eeprom-access: yes
  supports-register-dump: no

After a reboot I expect to see a bond0 interface with 2 RUNNING SLAVE
  interfaces.

However, sometimes I only see 1 interface coming up in the bond after a
reboot and when I manually bring the other interface up (ifconfig eth6
  up) it works:

  # cat /proc/net/bonding/bond0

[Bug 996364] Re: systemtap reports error 'Build-id mismatch'

2012-05-08 Thread visual2me
I download the deb package linux-image-3.2.0-24-generic-
pae_3.2.0-24.38_i386.deb from the server and install it manually with
'dpkg -i', then systemtap works. No idea why apt-get or aptitude or
synaptic can't see and install the kernel of this release...

[Bug 985947] Re: Every 10 minutes xorg is loading Atom N450 CPU 50-65% resulting to battery drain and performance drop

2012-05-08 Thread Invalid
I have few more problems with intel video. Every 2-3 hours I have to restart
Xorg or laptop because video driver causes screen image to be completely
corrupt. After reboots I've noticed that problem with CPU load vanishes for
some time. But occassionaly, it returns :(
So it is not 100% reproducible, but happens often for me.

[Bug 907464] Re: top panel should not go over fullscreen window in multi-monitor case

2012-05-08 Thread Treris
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 734908 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/734908

My use case is exactly like David Sommen's, I too often play movies (using
Totem) on my TV while still surfing the internet or other stuff on my primary
monitor. I don't see why unity should be allowed to break the full screen
status of Totem and display the panel.
I should think this error gets even more annoying when you're giving a
presentation using a beamer as a secondary screen. As soon as you do anything
on the laptop screen your presentation (on the beamer) will be disturbed by the
panel showing upvery unprofessional!

[Bug 996467] [NEW] Hangs loading pages

2012-05-08 Thread shinyblue
Public bug reported:

Intermittantly Chromium refuses to load a page, saying it's Waiting for
host, but basically something's up and it will never display the page.
Hit refresh as much as you like, very rarely will this work. Restart the
browser and it will usually work. Obviously this is not always a
suitable option.

Obviously you're going to say ah ha, maybe it IS the webserver, but I
have firefox along side and it never has any trouble on the same pages
at the same time.

I notice from a google search that this is a frustration with Chrome,
too, on many different platforms. This morning it has happened so
frequently that it has pushed me to submit this bug report because it
was becomming a serious productivity issue for me.

[Bug 996473] [NEW] Status selections in drop down menu do not work

2012-05-08 Thread Ken Pratt
Public bug reported:

Empathy is up and running and I can chat. I have accounts with
Facebook, Google Talk, Yahoo!, and Nearby (broadcast). The drop down
menu under the envelope shows that I am Offline b ut I am not. And, I
can not change the status to other than offline. I attached my
/etc/network/interfaces on the assumption that perhaps it is playing a
role along with NetworkManager.

I should be able to change my status to any of Available, Away, Busy, or
Invisible. Clicking on any of those selections results in nothing. My
status is not changed nor is the indicator.

Thanks you.

keep only the greek lanugage and then put the norwegian back in it
works but the indicator on the top shows always the wrong language
(norwegian for greek and greek for norwegian).
