[Bug 1020436] Re: Cannot read superblock after FC multipath failover

2012-07-27 Thread Steve Fisher
The root cause was in fact the lvm.conf filter, but explicitly not for
the reason you'd think.

The issue is that if I added a|.*| into regex array, it was ignoring
my 'sd[b-z]', loop and ram exclusions, both singly and in combination.

It seems to be an obscure issue with the use of square brackets inside
the regex in certain ways.

Eg if I use the line:

filter = [ a|.*|,  r|.*| ]
or
filter = [ a|.*|,  r|loop| ]

Then this filters _everything_ in the first example, or just loop
devices respectively... just as you would expect.

However as soon as I use something like:

filter = [ a|.*|, r|loop[0-9]| ]

Then I don't get any filtering at all... except that defining _only_ the
removal filters, per:

filter = [ r|loop[0-9]+| ]

.. and other filters of that ilk DO work as expected -- so long as I
remove the accept-all regex.

I'm not sure if this parsing behaviour is intended -- it could be to do
with the way the array is encapsulated.

Even this line works as expected:

filter = [ a|.*|,  r|sd.[b-z]| ]

-- Possibly since placing the the match-any-single-character (.) in
there changes the behaviour.

The filter currently in use works as expected and looks like:

filter = [ r|sd[b-z]|, r|ram[0-9]+|, r|loop[0-9]+|, ]

After update-initramfs and reboot, I can successfully disable paths, and
the failover works perfectly.

Your insight is much appreciated, I would never have expected
/dev/mapper/mpath0 to become aliased to a single disk target.

I suspect that what has actually happened is that things were working
perfectly for a time, but then broke upon a reboot of the server.

Ie, due to the lack of filtering, LVM jumbled the detected volumes at
boot time (due to the way /dev is traversed) such that mpath0 was
actually pointing at a fixed location eg /dev/sdb rather than being
multipathed as expected.

[Bug 1029777] Re: Use overlayfs in lxc-clone

2012-07-27 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks, this is something we do want to support.

One thing we need to consider is that the original container or base
rootfs cannot be deleted or the cloned container will disappear. This
requires some special new checks in lxc-destroy.

Overlayfs does have some bugs which are not being resolved quickly. (At
least /proc/$pid/maps being corrupted, there may be more). Ephemeral
containers are deemed more 'experimental' than 'real' containers, so it
may be worth waiting to support overlayfs in lxc-clone, which produces
real containers, until those are resolved.

I will mark this Triaged and wishlist priority.

proposed. In fact, openvswitch failed on PPC for the release as well.
Its a port architecture so it won't block the release/cause removal if
it only FTBFS on PPC.

The package update may have been delayed a bit, but i see openvswitch-
datapath-dkms in http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/precise-
proposed/universe/binary-amd64/Packages.gz

Ben, we'd love to know what bugs have been fixed in the 1.4 branch and
bring them into the distro as updates if they meet our usual criteria
for updates. We often import whole upstream patch-only releases, we just
ask that either all bugs fixed be documented so we can review the
changes and test that the fix works, or that you document your own
regression avoidance procedures so we can make a judgement call on
whether that meets ubuntu users' needs for stability. If it looks good,
we can look at doing a micro release exception for openvswitch.

[Bug 1028470] Re: apache2+ssl hangs on high load

2012-07-27 Thread Clint Byrum
One thing to consider as a workaround to this is to use php5-fpm for
per-user PHP, running a daemon per user. This has the additional benefit
of being able to limit each user's memory usage individually. You can
then switch to apache worker, which I'm sure does not have this issue.
This should also be quite a bit more memory efficient as static files
will be served from the apache threads rather than all 1000+ processes.

[Bug 1029977] [NEW] dnsmasq-base should ship the dnsmasq dbus configuration file

2012-07-27 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Public bug reported:

/etc/dbus-1/system.d/dnsmasq.conf is currently being shipped by
'dnsmasq'. However, other users of the dnsmasq binary as a standalone
binary (e.g. those packages that depend on 'dnsmasq-base' and not
'dnsmasq') may want to use dnsmasq with --enable-dbus. This requires the
above config file; otherwise the name can't be owned by dnsmasq and DBus
messages will fail.

dnsmasq-base should ship the file along with the dnsmasq binary; all
other arch-indep files from dnsmasq can stay where they are.

[Bug 967410] Re: Windows clients cannot connect to shared printers

2012-07-27 Thread jmsfnch
Whilst attempting the fix outlined in #21 / #25 / #26 I found this:

root@exabytes:/home/james# rpcclient localhost
Unknown parameter encountered: lpq
Ignoring unknown parameter lpq
Enter root's password:
rpcclient $ enumprinters
flags:[0x80]
name:[\\LOCALHOST\]
description:[\\LOCALHOST\,,HP_C4480]
comment:[HP_C4480]

Am I correct in thinking the printer has somehow lost its name?
name:[\\LOCALHOST\]

Attempting to change the name regardless results in the error:

rpcclient $ setprintername HP_C4480 HP_C4480
result was WERR_ACCESS_DENIED

The results are the same for both users 'root' and 'james' (a member of
lpadmin).

smb.conf contains...
   printer admin = @lpadmin, james

Is anyone able to shed some light on what's happening here? Many
thanks.

[Bug 1018579] Re: dovecot panic

2012-07-27 Thread Stéphane Graber
As stated on IRC, I did a minimal regression check, getting a precise
container working with postfix and dovecot, sending a couple of test
e-mails, retrieving them from dovecot, then upgrading to the new
packages and testing again.

The race is apparently difficult to hit and doesn't have a clear test case. The
patch was taken from upstream so it's hopefully sane.
Marking this bug verification-done on the basis that it's been waiting for
almost 30 days and doesn't show any sign of regression.

[Bug 1028470] Re: apache2+ssl hangs on high load

2012-07-27 Thread Evgeny Anisiforov
Unfortunately i do not get any PID with this method. The other end of
the connection is simply -, not associated with any apache2 process:

root@ubuntu:/home/jeff# netstat -tnp |grep curl
tcp0161 127.0.0.1:33399 127.0.0.1:80ESTABLISHED

-
tcp0161 127.0.0.1:33399 127.0.0.1:80ESTABLISHED
347/curl

I have tried capturing the http traffic to get some insight: tcpdump -p -s0 -w
dump.cap -i lo port 80
This is the dump of the last curl request. Wireshark shows me multiple tcp
retransmits, but no reply from the server. So it may be something on the tcp
level, that is going wrong. Could someone with a deeper understanding of tcp
take a look on the dump?

If someone is interested, i can provide a downloadable virtual appliance
running ubuntu 12.04 with the reported bug (.OVF) from my virtualbox for
debugging purposes.

to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.

[Bug 1026991] Re: package amavisd-new-postfix 1:2.6.5-0ubuntu3.1 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-07-27 Thread Tyler Hicks
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1027061] Re: Postfix upgrade to 2.9.3-2~12.04.1 changes configuration files

2012-07-27 Thread Scott Kitterman
I can't replicate this with postfix and apt, so I suspect the puppet
involvement being where the issue is.

BTW, while I agree that configurations shouldn't be mucked with, there's
no security issue here as postfix is not an open relay by default. It
takes some work to get it to behave that way.

[Bug 1027061] Re: Postfix upgrade to 2.9.3-2~12.04.1 changes configuration files

2012-07-27 Thread Mephisto
It should be easy to reproduce this. Simply installing postfix on a
fresh server installation in the background (so without any use
interaction) and then chenging the configuration file should do it.
Puppet does nothing special with the package. Also, it uses aptitude to
install it, if that makes any difference. I can try again on monday when
I'm back at work if you have trouble with this.

2012-07-27 Thread Adam Gandelman
Kurt-

Thanks for the report. From the looks of it, nova is having problems import
the webob.exc module in the postinst. This is strange, as python-webob is a
dependency of python-nova, both of which are installed according the logs. I'm
curious--apport is reporting this is a fresh installation and not an upgrade,
but dpkg is finding existing nova configuration where its expecting to install
new stuff. Is there a chance you've already installed nova via some other
means (devstack?) and the systems python environment is a bit out of skew? If
the system is still stuck on this installation, can you try to manually import
the webob.exc module and test if there is an import error?
You can run:

$ python -c 'import webob.exc'

Thanks

[Bug 1022641] Re: not lintian clean

2012-07-27 Thread Clint Byrum
The warning about python-cinder's section is valid, but Low priority

The other one is bogus IMO, as dh_installinit seems to be adding an
update-rc.d to *remove* the deprecated /etc/init.d start in favor of the
upstart job. So the lintian check needs to make sure that the call in
postinst is *adding* and not *removing*.

[Bug 1030197] [NEW] upstart jobs will start services before all network interfaces are up and will not restart on runlevel 1-2

2012-07-27 Thread Clint Byrum
Public bug reported:

description Cinder api server
author Chuck Short zul...@ubuntu.com

start on (filesystem and net-device-up IFACE!=lo)
stop on runlevel [016]

chdir /var/run

pre-start script
mkdir -p /var/run/cinder
chown cinder:cinder /var/run/cinder

mkdir -p /var/lock/cinder
chown nova:root /var/lock/nova
end script

exec su -s /bin/sh -c cinder-api cinder

This should be

start on runlevel [2345]

Which guarantees all interfaces from /etc/network/interfaces have at
least been tried and waited on for 2 minutes (failsafe will boot the
system anyway after 2 minutes)

Also using su is not recommended as it opens a pam session. Instead, use
start-stop-daemon, as recommended here:

[Bug 1020883] Re: virt-manager does not start after 10.04 to 12.04 upgrade

2012-07-27 Thread Imre Sándor
Virt-manager simply displayed the output. In fact I was finally able to
sort out what went wrong. At some point back in an earlier installation,
certain parts of the virtual environment were installed under
/usr/local. That installation had not been removed with the upgrade. For
some unknown reason, the python libraries in that got pulled when virt-
manager was started and the version of those libraries were 0.600.0 (not
the one actually installed on my system).

In my case, the solution was to remove the remains of the old
installation. Afterwards, virt-manager started w/o problems, so your
problem does not seem to be related to mine.

Same thing with Clementine music player! Isn't there a temporary fix

the same error everytime on command line.

[Bug 1029776] [NEW] Plot of projection onto P1+ cubic bubble looks wrong

2012-07-27 Thread Garth Wells
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I am facing a strange issue. I am working on the linear space enriched with the
bubble space, V=P1+B.
In this short example, here is the problem:
-First, when I project the function, I get a strange result (the height of my
square goes from 1 to 1.6 ...)
-Then, given that bubble function, the integration seems to be wrong (it is
like I have a projected function in the integral...)

As I'm working with polynomials, of order 3, I expected the assemble
function to be exact. Then, another critic question appears: if this
integral is false, it will be the same in the solver, when assembling
the form?...

Here is my piece of code:

from dolfin import *

#Spaces
mesh=Rectangle(-2,-2,2,2,20,20)
P1=FunctionSpace(mesh,'CG',1)
B=FunctionSpace(mesh,'Bubble',3)
V=P1+B

#Visualisation Space
mesh2=Rectangle(-2,-2,2,2,100,100)
VL=FunctionSpace(mesh2,'CG',1)

class Image1(Expression):
def eval(self,value,x):
if ((x[0])=1) and (abs(x[1])=1) and (x[0]=-1):
value[0]=1
else:
value[0]=0

I_1=Image1()

I=interpolate(I_1,V)

H=project(I,V)

print(assemble(H*dx))

H_visualisation=project(H,VL)

print(assemble(H_visualisation*dx))

plot(H)
plot(H_visualisation)
interactive()

Thanks a lot for any explanation.

Emmanuel

[Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)

2012-07-27 Thread Chauncellor
Daniel, I got multiple freeze/stacktraces - they're all exactly the same
as the one I uploaded. Compiz also wasn't using any notable cpu
consumption and was taking up 100 Mb of memory, which is not any
different than normal, really. So it just *dies*.

Also, I'm not sure if you ever saw this in the slew of comments on this
report, but if I kill compiz/compiz-decorator and replace with metacity,
then shove a 'compiz --replace' onto tty7 via tty1 then the same exact
frozen screen will return. So would you indeed say this is still intel's
fault? Some sort of triple buffering issue? (ahem, not very knowledgable
about graphics stacks...)

[Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)

2012-07-27 Thread Santiago.Batista
Hello everyone,

I have also been experiencing this bugs for quite some time now.

I just wanted to add to Eric Piel's comment, as I too experienced this
bug in a different situation, i.e. not after suspending my laptop.

I have a Dell Vostro, with intel graphics.

I sometimes use xset dpms force off to turn off my screen without
locking it nor suspending. Although I cannot reproduce the bug at will,
this is what I did:

1) Run xset dpms force off
2) Wait 10 minutes until the screen locks automatically
3) Type something on the keyboard to wake up the computer
4) Result: Screen turns on (the laptop was NOT suspended), but it is not blank,
I can see my desktop, but the mouse/keyboard can't interact with it. The mouse
changes to a cursor in the center of the screen, where the space to input the
password should be.

This is, hence, very similar in the result, as the mouse changes to a
cursor, but the screen cannot be unlocked. (I did try to put my password
to no avail).

Hope this helps to tackle this down. Sorry if it isn't too clear, let me know
if I should explain again anything.
Cheers

[Bug 1029640] Re: Bad characters in Python logger output when using rsyslog

2012-07-27 Thread Scott Kitterman
Here's the requirements:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#SRU_Bug_Template

It doesn't have to be very formal, just provide the needed information.
I did quickly try one python application I use that uses syslog and I
did not immediately see this behavior. If you can whip up a couple of
lines of python to use to trigger the case, that would be helpful too.

Other than the test case, the other things in the template are trivial.
I don't mind dealing with them if you don't wan to.

[Bug 1029788] [NEW] HUD could include compiz window management menu

2012-07-27 Thread Greg Auger
Public bug reported:

It would be a really useful addition to the HUD if the compiz window
management menu (currently accessed via right clicking on a window
header) could be accessed via the HUD.

This would allow the following actions in the HUD:
 - Minimise
 - Maximise
 - Move
 - Resize
 - Always on Top
 - Always on Visible Workspace
 - Only on This Workspace
 - Move to Workspace Right
 - Move to Workspace Down
 - Move to Another Workspace
 - Close

Obviously some of these already have keyboard shortcuts, but others
don't. Making them accessible via the HUD would be very useful.

[Bug 1029790] [NEW] Can't boot without nomodeset option-kernel 3.5.X.X ATI M52 [Mobility Radeon X1300]

2012-07-27 Thread tolostoi
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu quantal (development branch), since the new 3.5 kernel coming,
can't boot without nomodeset option. I don't know where is the problem,
kernel or ati module, but with 3.4 kernel there is no problem booting the
Ubuntu.
When choose the 3.5 kernel from grub menu and start loading, after 10-15
seconds, just freeze, and can't do anything. I tried and mainline kernel from
kernel-ppa/mainline but no change, still can't boot. With nomodeset, 3D don't
work corectly, cant use normal unity session, unity 2D session works but with
artefacts.
