[Bug 991308] Re: Dnsmasq fails to resolve if any upstream nameserver is unreachable

2012-09-15 Thread Thomas Hood
Returning to this issue

Consider the log in comment #10. A successful lookup is done.

 Jun 22 13:43:09 archon dnsmasq[9635]: query[A] slashdot.org from 127.0.0.1
 Jun 22 13:43:09 archon dnsmasq[9635]: forwarded slashdot.org to 75.75.75.75
 Jun 22 13:43:09 archon dnsmasq[9635]: reply slashdot.org is 216.34.181.45

Later an unsuccessful one is done.

 Jun 22 13:46:00 archon dnsmasq[9814]: query[A] gmail.com from 127.0.0.1
 Jun 22 13:46:00 archon dnsmasq[9814]: forwarded gmail.com to 75.75.75.75
 Jun 22 13:46:00 archon dnsmasq[9814]: forwarded gmail.com to 75.75.76.76

It looks as if *both* nameservers are failing to respond in the latter
case.

It was originally reported that one out of four queries fails. This is
the failure frequency one would get if each nameserver failed half the
time and the servers fail independently of each other. William reported
in comment #6 that one of the nameservers, 75.75.76.76, fails half the
time. Is it possible that the other nameserver is also failing half the
time?

More generally, William, have you learned anything new about the problem
in the past month and a half?

[Bug 1027808] Re: dnsmasq doesn't start at system startup

2012-09-15 Thread Thomas Hood
@Thomas: Nice to hear. Probably your standalone dnsmasq was conflicting
with the dnsmasq process controlled by NetworkManager --- both were
trying to bind 127.0.0.1. Now NM-dnsmasq binds 127.0.1.1 instead, so
there is no longer a conflict.

Please upgrade network-manager to 0.9.6.0-0ubuntu7 and dnsmasq to
2.63-1ubuntu1 and see if the problem is still fixed. ;)

[Bug 1042275] Re: dnsmasq should not register 127.0.0.1 with resolvconf if it's not listening on lo

2012-09-15 Thread Thomas Hood
Currently it's the initscript that talks to resolvconf. If we want the
initscript to implement the behavior requested here (i.e., register
127.0.0.1 with resolvconf if and only if dnsmasq is listening on lo)
then the initscript will have to understand dnsmasq's configuration
files. That's asking too much from an initscript.

Dnsmasq should be enhanced so that the dnsmasq process talks to
resolvconf. The process knows whether or not it's listening on the
loopback address.

Furthermore, the process knows exactly which addresses it's binding; so
if it's listening on 127.0.0.2 it can register 127.0.0.2 with
resolvconf. Nice.

Furthermore, the process knows when it has been terminated, even if it's
not the initscript that's sent the signal, so it can de-register its
listen address with resolvconf. Nice.

[Bug 995079] Re: Internal server error when accessing nova/instances_and_volumes/ via horizon

2012-09-15 Thread Davide Guerri
Solved (at least in my case): I've got glance running on https and in
the horizon glance-client code the URI scheme was ignored.

I guess in the previos version of python-django-horizon package that
code was different...

Please find attached a (very trivial) patch for this issue.

[Bug 1044837] Re: vmbuilder should accept an empty destination directory

2012-09-15 Thread Tokuko
Sorry for the unclear description of the bug.
The manpage says:
   -o, --overwrite
Force overwrite of destination directory if it already exist.
[default: False]
But apparently vmbuilder does not overwrite it. It tries to delete it (which
fails with mountpoints) and then recreates it, that's a different action.
Why go through the hassle of deleting and recreating it if you can just dump in
any file by any name, since you got the permission from the admin that
everything in there can be overwritten?
Another point: If I know what files are going to be created (*.qcow2 by
default), then I expect to be able to create some files in there if I know that
the names do not conflict. Currently these files will be lost for no reason
that I see.
I just see no reason for removing the directory beforehand, as this can cause
errors like I have gotten. And it counteracts the use of mountpoints whereever
you want.

The reason that I do not use /srv/kvm/mysql/mysql is that /srv/kvm is a big
filesystem already containing severall VM disk images which are following
/srv/kvm/*/*.qcow2. Adding a subdirectory here would require me to migrate all
other VMs to ensure that the same mask works for all VM disk images.
To avoid that I currently install the VMs to a subdirectory and move the files
afterwards, which requires me to edit the domain config, of course. I consider
that unnecessary, if vmbuilder would accept -o as just dump anything you
want into that directory. if something does not work (due to permissions or
other issues), blame the admin and let him clean up the mess.

[Bug 1048008] Re: tgt needs restart to find LUN

2012-09-15 Thread Dave Gilbert
Hi James,
I agree it's likely to be an lvm/udev race; some observations:
 1) It doesn't seem to happen with files
 2) With lvm, It doesn't always happen if the guest is configured with a
single core; most of the time but not always
 3) With lvm it seems to happen (almost?) always when the guest has
multiple cores.

output of tgtadm as requested:

[Bug 522509] Re: [FFE] tftpd-hpa doesn't start on boot

2012-09-15 Thread Bambang Pranoto
I also have the same problem on 12.04.1.

My workaround is putting a new script /etc/network/if-up.d/tftpd-hpa
which contains:

#!/bin/sh
restart tftpd-hpa

Of course don't forget to chmod 755 the script.

[Bug 993907] Re: [nvidia GT 240] no desktop after X started

2012-09-15 Thread pat
I downloaded the driver for 64bit ubuntu here:

http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/47534

which is the official driver from nvidia and run it under graphic safe
mode. Then reboot and it works fine.

DON'T update your driver in the software center if you got this work,
since I update the nvidia there and it just crashed.

[Bug 1051161] [NEW] 'extract here' operation (during right click of archive) has no effect

2012-09-15 Thread karl anliot
Public bug reported:

apt-cache policy pcmanfm:
  Installed: 1.0.1~bzr728+201209122127~quantal1

right-clicking a zip file in pcmanfm brings up a dialog option that
gives you an 'extract here'

but selecting that has no effect.
should not have no effect, or should be removed.

This is affecting me too. And it is quite bad. It is unacceptable that
this bug is not being fixed in an LTS release. I expected more from the
Ubuntu developer community.

[Bug 852190] Re: 7392:7811 Edimax EW-7811Un USB dongle won't connect to networks (rtl8192cu module)

2012-09-15 Thread mikewhatever
This is on Ubuntu 12.04.1 live USB, 32bit, kernel 3.2.0-29-generic-pae.
I've reloaded the module with swenc=1 and debug=5 options (modprobe
rtl8192cu swenc=1 debug=5), hopefully that will provide more usefull
info.

** Description changed:

The networks around are visible, but when trying to connect, the NM
repeatedly asks for the password. Connecting to an open network fails as
  well.

[Bug 1051167] [NEW] Windows lose focus in Lubuntu 12.04 and 12.10-beta

2012-09-15 Thread ozonehole
Public bug reported:

What happens is that a window that I'm working in loses focus. And I'm
seeing it only in Lubuntu. I've also got Enlightenment (package e17)
installed, and when I login to that the bug goes away. This is why I
think it might be the fault of package lubuntu-desktop, but I could be
wrong.

Let me give you a more detailed description of what I'm seeing. I can
open a terminal (usually lxterminal) and I'll be able to type in it just
fine. But then if I su to root (note I've set a root password) then
focus is gone. I can get it back by clicking on the top of the terminal
window, though I might have to click several times. This part of the bug
(su to root) happens very consistently, every time. But the bug is
bigger than that.

I can have the Chromium browser open, and Libreoffice on another
desktop. I look up something on the Google web site, I go to cut paste
it into Libreoffice, suddenly my Libreoffice is dead, can't type and
clicking on menu items is unresponsive. I go back to Chromium - it's
dead too, can't type anything on the search line, menu items also
unresponsive. Now of course something like that will always happen if
another program is grabbing focus - for example, if Apport wants to
report something or you get a message that updates are available. But
this loss of focus happens just randomly, even when nothing has popped
up. When it happens, I can sometimes get it back by shutting down one of
the apps (let us say Libreoffice, and then Chromium back to life). But
sometimes not. I might have to close all the apps I have running and
restart them to regain focus. Very frustrating, of course, when you're
trying to get work done.

I have four computers at my disposal. All four have Lubuntu installed.
I'm seeing the problem on all four machines. One is an ASUS eeePC
(32-bit processor, of course) but the other three all have the 64-bit
version of Lubuntu installed. I have Lubuntu 12.10-beta-1 installed on
one of the machines, the rest are Lubuntu 12.10.

Like I said, if I log out of Lubuntu desktop and log back in with
Enlightenment, this issue disappears.

One possibility does occur to be, that maybe one of my installed apps is
grabbing focus, though it seems unlikely. I do a lot of translation work
and have the Chinese language packs installed along with package scim
as an input method. But even when I kill scim, I still see the problem.

OK, hope this helps. Please ask me any questions if you have them.

cheers,
Roberto

[Bug 1051169] [NEW] Keyborad Layout Chart has missing keys on NEO2 layout

2012-09-15 Thread Lizard
Public bug reported:

I'm using the NEO2 keyboard layout, this layout contains 6 Layers. Not
all of them are displayed in the Layout Chart accessible from the unity
keyboard menu. Additionally, the Level four modificators aren't
highlighted properly.

NEO contains these layers:
Lower case Latin: included in the layout map :-)
Upper case Latin (Shift): included in the layout map :-)
Normal special characters (Chaps Lock): included in the layout map :-)
Navigation and Numpad: (Level 4 key, not properly highlighted): NOT included :-(
Lower case Greek: included in the layout map :-)
Upper case Greek, Math symbols(⊂∫∀∃∈Σℕℝ): NOT included :-(

To me it looks like a “we don't have that much space in there“ problem,
but it would be nice if it could be resolved anyway.

2012-09-15 Thread romain.bosq...@gmail.com
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected ubiquity-2.10.16

** Description changed:

I upgraded 10.04 to 12.04 via the 12.04 LiveCD (in the Ubuntu installer,
I chose to erase 10.04 before installing 12.04). Rebooting the PC gave
no access to any system, and a screen showing unknow symbol grub_xputs
error. Reinstalling GRUB in /dev/sda recovered GRUB and access to
Ubuntu. But the Windows entry in GRUB still does not work. My current
Boot-Info report (http://paste.ubuntu.com/1203471/) indicates that the
Ubuntu12.04 installer installed GRUB in the PBR of the Windows
partition, which broke the boot of Windows.

[Bug 696214] Re: No possibility to personalize Unity (11.04)

2012-09-15 Thread Dooitze de Jong
** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu)
   Status: Expired = New

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: unity

People can't personalize there own digital working environment.
Personalize is I think the power of Linux and if you take that away
could cause a drastic reduction of the use of Ubuntu at home and in
  business.

  Some examples:
  People can not
  -- add applets/indicators to panels
  -- change position of panels
-- change the position of indicators
  -- change thickness of panels
-- change the sequence of icons

- I do a lot of video editing and I need the CPU Frequency applet to
- configure my CPU for the best results of creating and editing video's.
+ They might be able to do this in a really difficult way but that does
+ not take away, that it is non user-friendly

[Bug 1051175] [NEW] thunderbird increases memory from startup until whole system freezes because of lack of memory

2012-09-15 Thread RdeWit
Public bug reported:

Since 2 days (it started before upgrade to 12.10), out of the blue, thunderbird
started consuming all available memory from startup. It happened on 2 machines
independently (with the same email accounts).
It may be a race condition caused by some email.

I hoped to get some debugging info by running 'ubuntu-bug pid-of-
running-thunderbird'. Not sure if the information collected is
sufficient.

[Bug 1051162] [NEW] Needed: ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu-gnome

2012-09-15 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

We need a ubiquity slideshow for the Ubuntu GNOME Remix, a new
unofficial flavor that ships GNOME Shell by default. Since we use a
different theme than the other flavors (Adwaita), we'll have to re-take
any screenshots we want. I guess this will need a Documentation String
Freeze as it's not going to be ready by next Thursday.

Alternatively, Ubuntu GNOME Remix might ship 12.10 without a slideshow
at all since none of the existing slideshows are suitable.

This is basically a wishlist/placeholder bug as nobody has created the
slideshow yet.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10
Package: ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu (not installed)
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-14.17-generic 3.5.3

Date: Fri Sep 14 21:12:17 2012
SourcePackage: ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu
UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install)
