Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This sounds like either a local misconfiguration in OpenStack or a bug in OpenStack. [Bug 1089583] Re: Dovecot gets killed upon starting
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I am unable to reproduce this problem on a fresh and updated 12.04 cloud instance. Your bug seems to be saying that dovecot is unusable and cannot be started in its default configuration, but I do not find that the case here. Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete. Are you sure that you don't have a local resource limitation (such as disk space or memory) that is causing issues? What do your other log files (/var/log/syslog, /var/log/kern.log) say, or have you checked and found nothing relevant? If this is indeed a local configuration problem, you can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here: http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem, and then change the bug status back to New. ** Changed in: dovecot (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dovecot in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1089583 Title: Dovecot gets killed upon starting To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dovecot/+bug/1089583/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1090297] [NEW] MAAS View Documentation link points to unrelated version of docs
Public bug reported: Hi, in the MAAS Dashboard, there's a link View Documentation. This points to the upstream page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ServerTeam/MAAS/. This offers a manual redirect to http://maas.ubuntu.com. This appears to be documentation from the current daily build, and will contain information that's probably not relevant to the installed version. Also, the documentation for any particular version, such as the one in Precise, appears to only be available by checking out the sources and building the documentation manually. It would be better if the docs for a particular version were installed with MAAS, and the documentation link would point to that version, stored locally. Alternatively, http://maas.ubuntu.com/ could host docs for all supported versions. [Bug 998712] Re: domain name completion broken when dnsmasq is used
Lots of speculations here. My internal DNS server is 10.1.0.4. My fallback is the secondary 10.1.0.254 which acts as DNS forwarder and proxy to the third and others. The resolver works its way down: All things well = 10.1.0.4 Main server down: 10.1.0.254 will serve rudimentary internal services and redirects all requests to external DNSs The third server is there as we need two DNS servers for official domain name registrations. I have another issue: If dnsmasq is on via Network Manager opening a VPN connection to a remote site violates all name resolution to internal addresses (10.x.x.x). Here is the catch: If I turn off dnsmasq, all things work as expected. Names get resolved correctyl in all networks (internal, remote and external). I travel a lot and have my notebook set to attach in all these networks automatically. It worked fine until dnsmasq was introduced. I doubt that dnsmasq queries D-Bus for name resolution. And even if so, I question if there is an order that says D-bus, then resolv.conf or vice versa. To verify this, I will download the source and look into how dnsmasq works internally. I even question if my current understanding how DNS works is even accurate. There are so many RFCs that cover DNS mDNS and others that I need to update my knowledge first. I would not want you to search for something that actually does not exist. All I can confirm at the moment is that disabling dnsmasq (even if that implies doing this on a multitude of machines) leads to a constantly working infrastructure with far better performance. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dnsmasq in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/998712 Title: domain name completion broken when dnsmasq is used To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/998712/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 998712] Re: domain name completion broken when dnsmasq is used
Well, we are lucky that you do have a good workaround for the problem, even if we don't yet fully understand it. Do I understand correctly that your two internal nameservers can resolve exactly the same domain names, neither one more names than the other? If that is not the case then bug #1003842 could still be part of the problem if both nameservers are online at the same time. If dnsmasq is on via Network Manager opening a VPN connection to a remote site violates all name resolution to internal addresses (10.x.x.x). I am not sure I know what you mean by violates. If you mean something like causes to break then I would guess that what happens is that the remote LAN's nameserver is used for all name resolution, and the remote LAN's nameserver doesn't know any of your internal names. If you configure search domain names for that VPN in NetworkManager's Connection Editor then NetworkManager will so configure nm-dnsmasq that the remote LAN's nameserver is used only to resolve names in those domains; non-VPN nameservers will be used to resolve other names. That's the advantage of dnsmasq: it can route DNS requests in that way. I doubt that dnsmasq queries D-Bus for name resolution D-Bus is only used to send nameserver addresses to dnsmasq. This method replaces /run/nm-dns-dnsmasq.conf which was used for that purpose in Precise.
[Bug 1090410] [NEW] bundle utilities do not handle '/' in bucket name
Public bug reported: It seems that upload-bundle and download-bundle do not handle a '/' in the bucket name. Older versions of the ec2-ami tools also had this restriction. $ truncate --size 1m foo; cloud-publish-image amd64 foo smoser-private-images/foo failed: euca-upload-bundle --bucket smoser-private-images/foo --manifest /tmp/cloud-publish-image.U6Ziy8/foo.manifest.xml Checking bucket: smoser-private-images/foo Creating bucket: smoser-private-images/foo S3ResponseError: 404 Not Found ?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8? The ec2 api and ec2-ami tools now accept this, and realize that you want to create a bucket without a / and a directory in that bucket. Note, if the bucket already exists, this seems to work. Delete-bundle seems also broken: $ euca-delete-bundle --bucket smoser-private-images/prefix --prefix foo.img unknown:1:0: no element found $ ec2-delete-bundle --bucket smoser-private-images --prefix prefix/foo.img --prefix has invalid value 'prefix/foo.img': '/' character not allowed. Try 'ec2-delete-bundle --help' $ ec2-delete-bundle --bucket smoser-private-images/prefix --prefix foo.img Deleting files: - foo.img.manifest.xml - foo.img.part.00 Continue [y/N]: y Deleted foo.img.manifest.xml Deleted foo.img.part.00 ec2-delete-bundle complete. Note above there that a.) if a bucket already exists, then 'upload-bundle' seems OK with / in the bucket name. b.) i used 'cloud-publish-image' as a convienence wrapper. c.) delete-bundle interestingly wines about '/' in prefix, it wants that as part of the bucket name (strange). [Bug 1087228] Re: /etc/network/if-down.d/bind9 doesn't work; should be /etc/network/if-post-down.d/bind9
All very well to classify this as a wishlist opinion, but please accompany that with some sort of reasoning. Bind9's ifdown hook script does rndc reconfig which causes named to notice changes that have been made. If the script is run *before* taking down the interface then it is run when no changes have yet been made, so it has no effect. Immediately after this, ifdown takes down the interface, but nothing causes named to notice this change. [Bug 971314] Re: 1:4.2.6.p3+dfsg-1ubuntu3 on Precise generates a memory corruption
I can confirm this too. I wonder if it's somewhat related to bug 941968 Apparently in our case (we use puppet to provision the server), /etc/init.d/ntp start gets stuck (maybe because lockfile-create segfaults?) while the package postinstall script is run, so puppet gets stuck too while provisioning. We've found two ways to workaround the issue: 1. Use shorter hostnames 2. Rename /usr/bin/lockfile-create to /etc/bin/lockfile-create.bak so /etc/init.d/ntp does not find. Restore it back to /usr/bin/lockfile-create after the ntp package install. Both workarounds are somewhat hackish, so it would be great if someone could reproduce it and give it a higher priority :). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to ntp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/971314 Title: 1:4.2.6.p3+dfsg-1ubuntu3 on Precise generates a memory corruption To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ntp/+bug/971314/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1090554] Re: id segfaults when looking up user information
The described bug is in the libnss-ldap package which is not related to nss-pam-ldapd. You do not need nslcd if you are using libnss-ldap and libpam-ldap. It is not used at all. If you want to use nslcd, you should be using libnss-ldapd and libpam-ldapd instead. The warning message with the undefined symbol is because on start-up nslcd tries to load the libnss-ldapd NSS module to try to disable it within nslcd to avoid lookup loops. This message indicates that the mechanism to disable these lookups was not found. It probably means that libnss-ldap is installed instead of libnss-ldapd (or a version older than 0.7.7). ** Package changed: nss-pam-ldapd (Ubuntu) = libnss-ldap (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libnss-ldap in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1090554 Title: id segfaults when looking up user information To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libnss-ldap/+bug/1090554/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1090383] [NEW] Dash does not display unless other windows are open
Public bug reported: When no windows are open on the screen, as when I've first logged in, the Dash refuses to open. The launcher bar works (hiding/showing, as expected), but clicking the Dash Home button or pressing the Super key does nothing. As soon as I open any window (usually I drop down Tilda using a key shortcut), the on-screen button and Super key both work again. This problem started after an upgrade from Precise to Quantal. [Bug 1072363] Re: Minimize window default shortcut Ctrl-Alt-0 doesn't work
I agree with Jussi and Mike from comment #4, #5 and #6. You need to think of this from a new users perspective who is new to Ubuntu and perhaps not as technical. I was a little confused why Ctrl-Alt-0 was not minimizing the windows, then realized they correct keystroke is CTRL- ALT-KP0. This is completely misleading, we should at least fix the dialogue so it clearly states (Ctrl - Alt - Keypad 0). when seeing Ctrl - Alt - 0 one will assume that both 0 on the keypad and 0 on the numberbar will minimize the window. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1072363 Title: Minimize window default shortcut Ctrl-Alt-0 doesn't work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1072363/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1072363] Re: Minimize window default shortcut Ctrl-Alt-0 doesn't work
I ran into this just now myself. It's pretty confusing. If I didn't find the AskUbuntu entry http://askubuntu.com/questions/56170/unity-hotkey- for-minimizing-current-window I wouldn't have known to disguish key 0 from KP0. Now that I know, it makes sense. But I think the 'Keyboard' control panel should report 'Minimize Window' as Ctrl-Alt-KP0, not Ctrl- Alt-0. If X Input disguises them as different keys, then it should tell the user that's inportant. So I don't think this one's Invalid. It may perform as you expect, but that's only once you have the right expectations.

I can confirm this is happening for me in 12.10 3.7.0 kernel. However the 12.10 kernel 3.7.0 will boot with acpi=off but then my USB devices are not functional such as my mouse.
