[Bug 1045616] Re: DHCP server handing out DNS server addresses but DHCP client does not write these to resolv.conf

2013-01-05 Thread Thomas Hood
David T wrote in comment #8:
 - Loaded Ubuntu 12.04

 - couldn't resolve dns

Possibly this is just another instance of bug #1000244.

David T, can you reproduce the failure?

** Description changed:

ARGH! Every release causes new problems :(

  If you have:
linux DHCP server on the network with options:
  option domain-name xyz.com;
  option domain-name-servers 4.2.2.2, 4.2.2.3;

- In Ubuntu 10.x it works fine and pulls the DHCP client pulls the DNS

- Trying to fix with: adding to /etc/network/interfaces

Can't manually specify the DNS server in /etc/resolv.conf because it's
  always getting overwritten.

What's the best option here? I think this might be a bug. Only option I
haven't tried is using the head file from this description:

- Resolvconf has a /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/ directory that can contain
“base”, “head”, “original” and “tail” files. All in resolv.conf format.

+
base: Used when no other data can be found
- head: Used for the header of resolv.conf, can be used to ensure a DNS server
is always the first one in the list
- original: Just a backup of your resolv.conf at the time of resolvconf
installation
- tail: Any entry in tail is appended at the end of the resulting resolv.conf.
In some cases, upgrading from a previous Ubuntu release, will make tail a
symlink to original (when we think you manually modified resolv.conf in the
past)

[Bug 1095757] Re: krb5 packages should be updated to v. =1.10.2 to workaround bug with gssapi kerberos authentication

2013-01-05 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Both Ubuntu Raring and Debian sid are currently on 1.10.1+dfsg-3, so
this needs to be addressed with the new upstream release in Debian
first, and then Ubuntu will be able to sync.

If you need a backport to an existing Ubuntu release, then this should
be followed up in bug 571572. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates for policy and procedure
(we'll need a cherry-pick).

[Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network

2013-01-05 Thread Scobo
Will there be a fix for 10.04 lucid, too?
I think this bug affects me too: Windows SBS 2008 with virtio network driver on
ubuntu 10.04 lucid host loses network connection from time to time. It's not
really deterministic when this error occurs. Usually it happens when there's a
large amount of traffic sent over the network. After disabling (via VNC
console) the network card in Windows and re-enabling it, everything works fine
again, no need to reboot the VM.
Any help is appreciated, since it's a quite annoying bug... :-)

[Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network

2013-01-05 Thread BenKochie
I'm testing this some more, and it looks like it's still easy to
reproduce on my system.

cc2ab6833adc73311a2407be2eb5f915 /usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64

I can cause the guest to drop VM networking with an rsync+ssh from a
nearby host.

Hmm, you mean sakis3g installation solves the problem even when using
network manager? What happens when you uninstall it?

Also, are you sure you are using the latest firmware for the device?

[Bug 1096289] Re: Qt apps often fail to start from file manager

2013-01-05 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1096289/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1096307] [NEW] Boot process hang because 'mountall' fails

2013-01-05 Thread Assaf Hoffman
Public bug reported:

We suspect a bug in Ubuntu 12.04 where boot process is hanged because
‘mountall’ fails due to an HDD failure.
The issue can be easily reproduced through either of the following scenario
on Ubuntu 12.04

  1. Mount a non-existing disk device node.
  2. Disk/partition error. You can simulate such error by corrupting a working
partition using DD command.

In either case, you will see system stuck at mount procedure and never reach
the login prompt.
I have tried some option like “timeout=30”, “optional”, update mountall to
v2.46. But none of them is working.

  Thanks

[Bug 861171] Re: Shutdown from greeter does nothing when multiple accounts open

2013-01-05 Thread Marius Kotsbak
We could add a checkbox to the dialog that needs to be checked to be
able to select the destructive action, hmm, but it might be confusing
for the other choices. Or maybe an extra verification dialog box with
cancel as default (and maybe the checkbox here instead) that pops up
when selecting the unclean shutdown.

Thanks for you work! Unfortunately patch doesn't cleanly apply to the latest

from Precise and the latest version is 12.07.30. Could you please adapt it for
the latest source and I will test it and create a proper debdiff patch which
can be included to the official package?

[Bug 1096311] [NEW] totem should support High 4:4:4 Predictive@L3.2 decoding

2013-01-05 Thread Doug McMahon
Public bug reported:

Which it currently does not. Only a white screen is displayed.
As it stands totem is the only player, (i've found), that doesn't decode these
files properly, banshee, vlc, mplayer, ect are fine.

High 4:4:4 is commonly produced by FFmpeg now while avconv generally
does main avconv (plain9) will do high that's somewhat irrelevant.

To test encode a vid in high444 attempt playback in totem (Videos), or in a
browser using the totem-mozilla plugin, display will likely be white screen
attached a small screen cap for convenience if needed

[Bug 782406] Re: LibreOffice Writer Document Compare (regression)

2013-01-05 Thread Michael Grivas
@ Gretha:
It seems to me that you're quite an expert in OSS. But, in that case, you
should know that most of OSS developers are not getting paid for what they do
(at least not for the whole thing or in the same rate) .
Then, one realizes that they will not fix any problem, because they do not have
to do it.
Yes, an OSS project may be bad or even doomed by the users. But, OSS developers
do not always care about that.

Now, in your case, I understand that you work for a big firm with an obvious
large budget.
If you want the fixes you mention done, why don't you arrange a payment for a
developer to fix it?
I would expect it to cost about half a mid-range western European salary.
And you would then help the whole community. And you would be happy (your
clients especially).
And many more would be happy. And the developer would be happy. And it would
not cost too much.

I am sure that if you ask, plenty would do that for you (and the whole
community) for no more than 1000 euros.
Why don't you try that path?

[Bug 1086123] Re: 3x power consumption compared to quantal

2013-01-05 Thread Timo Aaltonen
The GPU getting stuck at max MHz is fixed in 3.8-rc2, but power
consumption is still ~2W more than on quantal (~9W, better than 13W with
3.7). Maybe it'll get better with final 3.8, let's focus on the GPU bug
here.

[Bug 1096314] [NEW] Minimizing full screen Virtualbox re-draws full screen with Virtualbox image

2013-01-05 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

This is a strange bug that is present since the update of 12.10 now.

When I run Virtualbox (guest OS is Win 8, but that does not matter I
guess) and I minimize this full screen window, the Unity desktop re-
appears as expected, but only fractions of a second later, the
Virtualbox screen (my Win 8) re-appears!

It is just a grapical bug, it's just the still image that is re-
displayed full screen, if you click on any (not visible) Unity window,
the screen is correctly displayed. But if you happen to click on the
background (not a window), nothing happens, the Virtualbox Image still
covers everything.

This is really, really annoying it must be a bug in Unity.

[Bug 1096321] [NEW] sharing services

2013-01-05 Thread sagar bhagwat
Public bug reported:

I tried to share files on a newer installation of Gutsy Gibbon which is
located on a regular desktop PC on a home network. But when I try to add
a file to be shared, I get the following window

sharing services are not installed

you need to install at least either Samba or NFS in order to share your
folders

 install unix neworks support (nfs)
 install windows network support (smb)

In this window - I click a button to install these but nothing installs,
and the same window comes back up again repeatedly. I checked in
synaptic packet manager and smb was installed. I decided to remove and
reinstall it, but after removing it - it does not appear as an option to
reinstall it. An option to install unix networks support is not in
synaptic manager.

I got some advice to install samba. Currenly samba common is installed.
No option for installing samba is available in synaptic manager.

how dow I fix this situation so I can share files?

[Bug 1096323] [NEW] valgrind claims to support 3dnow! in cpuid, but doesn't

2013-01-05 Thread Bradley Baetz
Public bug reported:

See https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=291568 - on AMD CPUs, valgrind
exposes a cpuid that shows 3dnow support, however valgrind doesn't
actually support those instructions.

This results in IR decoding errors when using valgrind on ffmpeg-related
apps (in my case, mythtv).

I get:

vex amd64-IR: unhandled instruction bytes: 0xF 0xF 0xC1 0xBF 0xF 0xF
0xD3 0xBF

(In this case, this is the PAVGUSB instruction)

The fix is in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=291568, which masks
out the appropriate CPUID bit so that 3dnow isn't claimed as present. A
bit hackish, but since its upstream

[Bug 1096326] [NEW] Missing default nameserver for dnsmasq after connecting with openconnect

2013-01-05 Thread Sebastian Schweizer
Public bug reported:

I configured my VPN account for my university (University of Kaiserslautern,
Germany) with network-manager-gnome. I use openconnect to connect to the Cisco
Anyconnect VPN.
It is a split setup, that is to say only the routes to my university's network
are added. Default route is still my local router.
All routing works fine, but I have name resolution problems.

After establishing the connection dnsmasq (managed by network-manager)
does not work. In the attached syslog you can see that dnsmasq gets
nameservers through DBus. Nameservers for my universiy's domain and
reverse lookup zones are configured (use university's resolver), but no
default nameserver. So I can only resolve names in those zones:

I tried to change the VPN configuration from Automatisch (VPN) to
Automatisch (VPN), nur Adressen and give a custom DNS server. The effect is,
that this DNS server is used for the reverse zones announced by the VPN server,
but dnsmasq has still no default nameservers. And the triple-a.uni-kl.de entry
is not added to resolv.conf, but that makes no difference to me.

The expected behaviour would be something like this:
using nameserver 172.25.128.2#53 -- this line is missing!
using nameserver 131.246.9.116#53 for Domain 165.68.192.in-addr.arpa

using nameserver 131.246.9.116#53 for Domain 246.131.in-addr.arpa
using nameserver 131.246.9.116#53 for Domain triple-a.uni-kl.de

I hope apport has attached all my system information. If you need more
information just ask. I can provide everything from client side, but I
have no influence on my university's servers.

DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10

Remove 3dnow support bits from CPUID

Currently the CPUID values for this are based on a real CPU.
Unfortunately, it is an AMD CPU.
This means that CPUID claims to support 3DNOW while it actually doesn't.
As a result, any program doing audio decoding with FFmpeg crashes in valgrind
in x86_64 mode.
Attached patch just hacks the CPUID a bit to remove the 3DNOW flags.
That is not perfect since it now matches no real CPU but claiming to support a
feature that will certainly crash is surely worse.

Sorry to be impatient, but I'd appreciate if someone could have a look.
This is a really old issue I got finally annoyed enough about to debug
(as a MPlayer/FFmpeg developer using an AMD CPU it is really annoying
when valgrind crashes the program you're debugging half the time).

Possibly this is just another instance of bug #1000244.

David T, can you reproduce the failure?

** Description changed:

ARGH! Every release causes new problems :(

is always the first one in the list
- original: Just a backup of your resolv.conf at the time of resolvconf

- tail: Any entry in tail is appended at the end of the resulting resolv.conf.

[Bug 1096289] [NEW] Qt apps often fail to start from file manager

2013-01-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10

Okular (and also Texworks) sometimes fail to start when opening a pdf file from
file manager or Thunderbird. The program sleeps in background and has to be
killed. This behaviour is highly unpredictable, but there are some patterns:
1) The error never occurs when Okular is called from the terminal.
2) The second time the file usually opens, but after closing and reopening the
Nautilus window the problem recurs. Sometimes it's the other way around: files
stop opening, but closing the Nautilus window helps.
3) The problem is more severe under Cinnamon/Nemo than under the default Ubuntu
desktop.

I tried to call Okular from a script rather than directly. Here are some
findings:
1) Okular works when the script is called from terminal but (sometimes) fails
when it is called from file manager, although the working directory and
environment variables are exactly the same.
2) Unsetting DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS, GNOME_DESKTOP_SESSION_ID, or
UBUNTU_MENUPROXY makes it work.
3) Introducing a delay (sleep 5) also seems to help.

[Bug 1003297] Re: Networking and ACPI conflicts

2013-01-05 Thread Chris
I have this exact same problem with the exact same board with a clean
install of 12.10 32 bit except that only the Ubiquity reboot fails to
work. Normal reboot/shutdown works OK. None of the fixes here allowed
me to use the ethernet card on this board. The warning message in
/var/logs/syslog is also the same:

ACPI Warning: 0x0700-0x073f SystemIO conflicts
with Region \_SB_.PCI0.SM00 1 (20120320/utaddress-251)

The motherboard came with version 1.7 BIOS which I hopefully upgraded to
1.8, which also failed. I then downgraded to V 1.6 for the BIOS and
found that the ethernet card was working perfectly. The flash BIOS
files can be downloaded from ASRock here
http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.asp?Model=N68-VS3%20FXo=BIOS

This combined with the alternate workaround for the later kernel allowed
Ubuntu to recognise the ethernet card and use it. I then performed all
(244) updates which included an upgrade from kernel 3.5.0-17 to
3.5.0-21.

After re-booting, I found that the system is broken again and will no
longer recognise the ethernet card. I tried the first two work arounds
again but nothing is working. There are no ACPI settings in BIOS that
might help, and as stated the acpi= type adjustments in grub boot do not
help at all.

[Bug 1096334] [NEW] Alltray crashes on restoring window

2013-01-05 Thread Michael Luthardt
Public bug reported:

Alltray version 0.71b. Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal.
Only after changing com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist from default to
['all'] the alltrayed window apperars in the systray. Restoring the window
doesn't work by click, but by undock only. But afterwards Alltray crashes.
Automatic report send.
So far, Alltray is useless in Quantal.

[Bug 1076905] Re: Gmail webapp integration only works fine if english launguage is set

2013-01-05 Thread Antoine Apollis
I found a solution for this bug; the patch is attached.
I only replaced on the line 59 the [@aria-label=Navigate to] which depends on
the language used by [@id=:rb] which is unique.

I also changed the GMail label by the Gmail label correctly wroten
on line 123, which corrects the bug #1062890.

It works perfectly now, even in French. Please tell me what you think
about my patch.

[Bug 1088775] Re: gwibber does not refresh Facebook feeds

2013-01-05 Thread Vampire
To be clear, my fix is for version 3.6.0-0ubuntu1 of package
gwibber-service-facebook. If you have a different version, the line number is
maybe different, but I guess the workaround is the same as long as it is the
same problem.
To verify that you have the same problem, run the following two commands

killall gwibber-service
gwibber-service -do

Now you should get some output during the run that reads like:

Dispatcher Thread-5: ERRORfacebook:receive Operation failed
Dispatcher Thread-5: DEBUGTraceback:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gwibber/microblog/dispatcher.py, line
83, in run
message_data = PROTOCOLS[account[service]].Client(account)(opname, **args)
File /usr/share/gwibber/plugins/facebook/__init__.py, line 369, in __call__
return getattr(self, opname)(**args)
File /usr/share/gwibber/plugins/facebook/__init__.py, line 393, in receive
return [self._message(post) for post in data[data]]
File /usr/share/gwibber/plugins/facebook/__init__.py, line 329, in _message
m[privacy][description] = data[privacy][description]
KeyError: 'description'

The 3rd line from bottom of this excerpt gives you the faulty line which
is 329 for me.
