[Bug 1090221] Re: qiv crashed with SIGABRT in gdk_event_dispatch()

2013-02-14 Thread melchiaros
@ Edward

One of the qiv developers has answered to the e-mail notification.

Could you please answer his furhter question directly per mail.

I want to get out as a communication bridge(not really needed one).

He wrote:

Hi.

I'm one of the QIV developers.

Unfortunately I could not reproduce it here, but my photo archive is
only a tenth of his size. So if there is way for me to reproduce
the issue it would be much easier for me to help.

There are some issues in the report, which could perhaps be
clarified. Was qiv already up and showing a picture? Or
did he fire up qiv and went out while it was scanning the
mentioned 6 pictures.

A SIGABRT could also be an indication for memory problems.
Is a dmesg output available, to check if qiv was not taken out by
the kernels OOM-killer? Also gdk_event_dispatch() is never
directly called from qiv. It is part of the gdk_main_loop(),
which makes it IMHO not so likely that qiv crash there.

Cheers,

 Thomas

[Bug 1025555] Re: Ubuntu32bits is incompatible with recent (UEFI) computers

2013-02-14 Thread FredL
A main and serious problem is that there are pc's/notebooks with recent
CPUs which are 32 bit which cannot be run in legacy mode, so they only
support EFI. An example of that is the ACER W510 mentioned before. I
cannot believe that is the only one and more will likely appear in the
(near) future. So I think it would make most sense to make sure the
32bit iso does support EFI properly just like the 64 bit one.

You have to manually configure X in this case to use both devices
simultaneously (so long as the BIOS doesn't hide the igfx when a dgpu is
plugged in). In raring, though this should start to work semi-
automatically using nouveau with PRIME.

Thanks, applied now.

Just wonder, though, whether rather setting
spec-gen.power_down_unused = 1 works. When it's set, the generic
parser applies the own power filter, and it doesn't have the EAPD
check either (plus it does more aggressive power-down of unused
widgets).

Or, maybe we just drop the EAPD check, and move it to specific fixup.
AFAIK, it was required only for old Gateway laptops.

[Bug 1027949] Re: Improve workspace functionality under Unity

2013-02-14 Thread Vitaly Maltsev
The Mountain Lion, Elementary Pantheon, and Cinnamon currently provide
the most comfortable ways to work with workspace management. Main goals
are easy reorganizing of the workspaces you currently have like opening
of the app on the desired workspace, easily rearranging of apps between
the workspaces, rearrangement of workspaces themselves, easy way to
add/remove more workspaces.

Nice feature of Mountain Lion is that you can make the full-screen app
behave as separate workspace and keep the ability to switch from it to
another workspace back and forth.

I believe, that's almost everything which is really required from
workspace functionality. In other words you never know how much
workspaces you really need, despite the point people might have habits
for example of placing messengers to one workspace, another keeping for
browsing, another one for development, some for writing documentation
and so on - that's not working for the end user.

I'd suggest copying the behavior of the workspace management from the
resources mentioned in the beginning of my comment, as it seems to be
really user-friendly.

[Bug 1022376] Re: Unaccelerated Video with installed Intel Video Card by default

2013-02-14 Thread Chris Wilson
Well chrome doesn't use video acceleration any way. But even so, it
should still be quite capable of decoding HD streams using your CPU and
presenting them without dropping frames. No idea about Miro. VLC the
last time I looked at it had some attrocious GL video decode pipeline
(slower and tons of artifacts).

Can you please update to raring and attach your Xorg.log?

[Bug 1125097] [NEW] forces removal of virtualbox-4.2

2013-02-14 Thread Andrew Schulman
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to install vagrant 1.0.1-1. On my host virtualbox is not
installed, but virtualbox-4.2 from virtualbox.org is. To my surprise,
installing vagrant wants to force installation of virtualbox, which
forces uninstallation of virtualbox-4.2:

# apt-get install vagrant

The following extra packages will be installed:

  ruby-net-ssh rubygems virtualbox virtualbox-dkms virtualbox-qt
Suggested packages:
  virtualbox-guest-additions-iso vde2
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  virtualbox-4.2
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  libgsoap1 ruby-archive-tar-minitar ruby-childprocess ruby-erubis ruby-ffi
ruby-i18n ruby-json ruby-log4r ruby-net-scp
  ruby-net-ssh rubygems vagrant virtualbox virtualbox-dkms virtualbox-qt
0 upgraded, 15 newly installed, 1 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 24.5 MB of archives.
After this operation, 59.1 MB disk space will be freed.

I can't figure out why this should happen, because AFAICT vagrant only
recommends virtualbox, it doesn't depend on it.

It would be nice if vagrant didn't force uninstallation of
virtualbox-4.2. It would be even nicer if vagrant would accept
virtualbox-4.2 as providing the virtualbox package.

Thanks, Andrew.

[Bug 969489] Re: lightdm tries (and fails) to start too early?

2013-02-14 Thread Joakim Fogelström Hardingz
I also have this problem, I think!

Occasionally my computer will hang at boot showing only a black screen.
Running Ubuntu 12.10 on the following hardware:

CPU: Intel Core i7-2700K@3.5 Ghz (Sandy Bridge)
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX660Ti 2Gb
HDD: Corsair Force 3 SSD 240GB (mounted as / )
Motherboard: MSI B75MA-P45 (LGA1155)
Nvidia binary driver: 310.14

Simply hitting the reset button or power it off and on and it will boot.
I was afraid this was some hardware problem but then maybe not :)

[Bug 1125011] Re: screen save still active after being disabled

2013-02-14 Thread aaron
This is possibly a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1046118

I have updated to all the latest version of unity, lightdm, gdm settings,
kernel.
This was still causing issues.

Downgraded kernel from
uname -a
Linux 3.5.0-23-generic #35~precise1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 25 17:15:33 UTC 2013
i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

To the latest generic which has fixed this issue. I am going to add this
bug to the Linux 3.5.0-23 bug profile.

[Bug 1120660] Re: Kernel Panic when running 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' ?

2013-02-14 Thread filip
@Lito
in the grub boot screen (if you don't see it, press shift right after bios,
sometimes you need to try several times as for me it doesn't always works and
it just boots right away)
use the 2nd entry (advanced i think it is called)
than highlight the first entry and hit e to edit
there you add the --no-log in between the commands quiet and (no)splash
I editted on 2 places, you will see there some kind of if loop.
than just hit F10 to boot. That worked for me.

[Bug 960124] Re: [VPCZ13C5E or VPCZ114GX, Realtek ALC889, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2013-02-14 Thread David Henningsson
If you're using the 3.5 kernel you need the dkms-hda-lts-quantal package
instead, quoting https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/UpgradingAlsa/DKMS

Note the difference between the quantal version dkms-hda and the
precise version of dkms-hda-lts-quantal : If you're running Ubuntu
12.10, you should use dkms-hda of quantal, whereas dkms-hda-lts-quantal
of precise is for users of Ubuntu 12.04 that are running the backport
kernel (the linux-image-generic-lts-quantal package).

[Bug 1106915] Re: installation crashes

2013-02-14 Thread Singraff Nadia
Before I put the Ubuntu ISO into my usb key, I've done the verification of the
ISO with a MD5 verificator which haven't find any corrupt file into.
I've finally find the real problem, that were a problem in my own hard disk
which had died.
So with a new hard disk, Ubuntu works well.
Thanks for having taken time to answer me and to help me.

[Bug 1124297] Re: Mouse and touch input devices can't be configured seperately

2013-02-14 Thread Johannes Gowin
Sure thing that you don't have the time to deal with every minor issue
instantly.

But isn't setting this bug to Won't fix telling other people that they
shouldn't have any hope that it ever will get fixed a little bit to
much? (I'm not too familiar with the guidelines how to bug statuses) It
sounds like bad/stupid/unworthy idea that never will be considered.
Wouldn't be Opinion more appropriate? Just my 2 cents worth.

So maybe we should stop that here as I know that this is some minor
thing (even if it is influencing the connection of the user and the
software).

[Bug 1125136] [NEW] Read errors and kernel panic - Astrotek / genesys USB3 internal card reader

2013-02-14 Thread Oliver Story
Public bug reported:

I have an Astrotek USB 3.0 internal card reader in my new computer,
plugged into the USB3 header on the mainboard. The reader is apparently
controlled by the Genesys gl3220 chip. It has two LEDs on the front: one
red to indicate power, the other green to indicate card
access/read/write. It also has a USB3 port on the front, which seems to
work fine with USB sticks.

I have a 16GB SD card from my camera. When I put it in the SD slot, I
would expect the card to be detected with the option given to open it in
Nautilus etc. Instead, the green light flashes on and off repeatedly.
dmesg reports a series of messages related to xHCI followed by
Unhandled error code. I will attach an excerpt from dmesg from this
incident, which was reliably repeatable.

I have tried some different BIOS settings for the USB system:
- Firstly I changed xHCI from Smart Auto to Enabled, logged in, then tested
again with an old 256MB SD card. This was mounted automatically but when I
tried to create a folder on the card I received a dialogue box reporting an
input/output error. Dmesg reported similar xHCI errors as when I tried the 16GB
card. I began to file a bug report, and part way through was dumped to a text
console with a kernel panic message (which appeared to stem from usb_storage).
As I have no other USB devices plugged in I presume this is again from the card
reader.

- Secondly I toggled the ASUS Bios EHCI handoff, which I think was
disabled by default and I set it to enabled. With this set I got a
kernel panic shortly after logging in, but without inserting a card in
the card reader at all. I have screenshots of these kernel panics if
they are of use.

I am writing this bug report having rebooted the computer, reset the USB
BIOS settings and restarted and the card reader's red power light is not
on at all, hence the ubuntu-bug-generated output may not show the card
reader.

- Oliver

[Bug 1099828] Re: Tab bar is not displayed when there is only one page open in a window

2013-02-14 Thread Domain Administrator
I am still ducking out of the nagging update notices in Kubuntu 12.10.

What are the advantages of not running the stock Chromium package? Do
they outweigh the increased risk of bugs and bug fix bugs?

Not being critical, I'm ever gratful to the fixers for their devotion to
duty. It is just that this takes their creative time away ...

[Bug 1098334]

2013-02-14 Thread Chris Wilson
So my testcase was fixed by:

commit 1565917f10d9fb3c7e2e7e273173c38c364b9861
Author: Chris Wilson ch...@chris-wilson.co.uk
Date: Tue Feb 5 10:11:14 2013 +

sna/gen4: Disable non-rectilinear GPU span compositing

This seems to be the primary victim of the render corruption, so disable
until the root cause is fixed.

Can you please check your worst-case / typical behaviours and see if any
still remain?

Sample libreoffice document that almost always shows issues on gen4

 with libreoffice on gen4

I get different rendering of that test.odg with different versions of
lodraw - and on the machine that renders it different, it switches back
to the old output at a certain scale factor. That is quite atypical
behaviour for this gen4 bug.
