[Bug 1154006] Re: 12.04 freezes many times daily
** Description changed: My laptop computer freezes very, very frequently. I'm using 12.04.02 (32bit, though my computer supports 64 bit, but I had freezes with that too), I've had the same trouble on 12.04.01 and 12.10. I've used kernels 3.2, 3.5 and 3.8, all still have freezing. I'm not sure how to identify the package causing the freezing, but not for a lack of trying. If anyone has any idea, I will cheerfully supply whatever info you need. It's been close to two months I think. :P When it freezes, the keys do not respond at all, opening another tty or using REISUB completely impossible. It can happen anywhere from a few seconds to a few hours after a boot. Usually while browsing, but that's because I'm usually browsing I think. The only thing I can do is a hard reset. I have tried to ssh into my computer from my wife's, but it is impossible while frozen (note, it IS possible when my computer is not frozen, so from what I have read, this indicates my error is not a GPU hang, correct me if I am wrong :) ) Memtest shows no errors (memtest would not run, except for from a live usb, but I got it covered. No errors). Happens in unity 2d and unity 3d, guessing it's not compiz. Also, if I don't log in to x and just go straight to console, I still get freezes. I can't win. No proprietary drivers either. My computer is kept dust free, it is not overheating. Significant or not I have no idea, but my desktop icons appear in a different position after rebooting. As per another report, I tried noapic and nomodeset, to no avail. acpi=off too. :P acpi_apic_instance=2 did not work better either. - From my reading, I've been looking into this, but to no avail: - - joe@Sutarmekeg:~$ sudo grep -i bug /var/log/syslog - Mar 12 09:09:04 Sutarmekeg kernel: [0.00] ACPI: BIOS bug: multiple APIC/MADT found, using 0 - Mar 12 09:09:04 Sutarmekeg kernel: [0.098980] [Firmware Bug]: ACPI: BIOS _OSI(Linux) query ignored - Mar 12 09:09:04 Sutarmekeg kernel: [0.125307] PCI: Using host bridge windows from ACPI; if necessary, use pci=nocrs and report a bug - Mar 12 09:09:04 Sutarmekeg kernel: [0.486860] ehci_hcd :00:1a.7: debug port 1 - Mar 12 09:09:04 Sutarmekeg kernel: [0.500356] ehci_hcd :00:1d.7: debug port 1 - Mar 12 09:09:04 Sutarmekeg NetworkManager[746]: info Loaded plugin ifupdown: (C) 2008 Canonical Ltd. I used to copy the whole directory regularly on my desktop, and execute a backup with deja dup on that. I did also often backup directly from the samba share. After upgrading my client to 12.10, copying the directory hangs randomly, sometimes after having copied just 1 Gb, others having almost completed the whole transfer. It just hangs, without any crash. I noted the also Deja -dup shows the same behaviour, now it's impossible to complete a backup from the share, it just hangs. It seems to me that a bug in the samba client might be the cause of these issues, since neither nautilus nor Deja-dup have problems with local large directories. my system: Ubuntu 12.10 AMD64 nautilus: 1:3.5.90.really.3.4.2-0ubuntu4 deja-dup: deja-dup 24.0-0ubuntu1 smbclient 2:3.6.6-3ubuntu5 samba-common: 2:3.6.6-3ubuntu5 samba-common-bin: 2:3.6.6-3ubuntu5 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 Package: nautilus 1:3.5.90.really.3.4.2-0ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-18.29-generic 3.5.7 Uname: Linux 3.5.0-18-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu6 Architecture: amd64 Date: Wed Nov 7 12:05:58 2012 GsettingsChanges: b'org.gnome.nautilus.window-state' b'geometry' b'825x550+853+471' InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-10-22 (16 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal - Release amd64 (20121017.5) MarkForUpload: True SourcePackage: nautilus UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/1075923/+subscriptions -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1075923 Title: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/1075923/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

What is weird, is that oftent I have this msg coming from a crash from xserver.xorg.video.intel : Le problème concerne le programme /usr/share/apport/apport-gpu-error-intel.py qui a changé depuis le plantage. which means that the prg apport-gpu-error-intel.py has changed till the crash. [Bug 1156121] Re: Samsung 900X no screen on resume
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1156121/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1156151] [NEW] External monitor not recognized properly
Public bug reported: I have an external monitor attached to my Lenovo X200s through a docking station (via a HDMI (monitor) - Displayport adapter (Docking Station)). [Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share
Ubuntu is not really Debian based, most Raring packages are way ahead of even Debian Experimental. Ubuntu uses deb packaging and the basic Debian system layout but has long since ceased to be just a repackaged Debian. I am currently installing Squeeze and will upgrade to Sid. I will test and report back. This bug is enough to turn me into a KDE user. Having said that on my main machine which was Ubuntu Gnome Remix 12.10 , upgraded to Raring and the Gnome PPA added then all updated to running Gnome 3.7.91 (3.8 beta) manages to be free of this bug. On my second machine Ubuntu Gnome 13.04 daily will not install properly with a UEFI install and as I reported above an Xubuntu raring still has this bug, even with Gnome PPA added. The Debian install will not answer too many questions. It will probably work as Debian is still on Gnome 3.4. The bug may be lurking upstream waiting to float down and stuff everyone up. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1075923 Title: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/1075923/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
